Go-getter
Beautiful. Optimistic. The ultimate go-getter. Twenty-seven-year-old Schané Venter
with that Julia Roberts smile has gone from being a shy little girl to a talented
part-time model and operations and logistics manager.
ost
recently the
Alberton
beauty,
Schané was
announced
as the 11th
winner of
the Sarie
Cover
Face competition. Schané first entered
the competition in 2015, but this
year she really stood out with judges
choosing her out of thousands who
entered countrywide to make the final
ten. Her life motto “to always try once
more” led to her entering a second time
and walking away with the coveted
October cover.
Why did you decide to enter the
competition?
I’ve known of Sarie magazine since
I was a little girl. For me there has
always been a certain grace, elegance
and aspirational connection linked
to the magazine. With it being the
70th birthday of Sarie they reached
the epitome of hope and inspiration.
Because I have entered previously it did
not even cross my mind to enter. When
a very special friend of mine asked me if
he may enter me into the competition
again, I decided to give it another go. He
literally submitted my entry a few hours
before the deadline. I am so grateful
that he believed in me enough to want
to enter me. Because of his confidence,
I have been granted this privilege and
opportunity.
Has it always been your dream to be
in the modelling industry?
To be completely honest, I was a very
shy child. I can still remember it like
it was yesterday. Every year when it
was time for our pre-primary annual
concerts I would cry from the moment
they put me on stage until my mom
or dad fetched me. For some reason I had this huge fright for getting on a stage. I
think my parents knew they needed to make an attempt to help me overcome my
stage fright. They enrolled me into a modelling school with the aim to learn selfconfidence
and to be able to have the courage to stand up in front of people. It was
the best decision ever as I started developing a real interest in the modelling industry.
I competed in the in-house modelling competitions and then also started entering
bigger pageants. I was privileged enough to be a finalist for Miss SA Teen 2007, Miss
Legs 2007 and few other competitions. The one I am most proud of is being a Top
eight Miss SA 2016 finalist.
I have also always enjoyed being in front of the camera. My sister and fiancé, Marion
always make fun of me. They say when there is a camera pointed at me I always say
“No, don’t take pictures.”, but saying that with a full pose and smile ready to take that
picture.
So yes, the modelling industry has always been appealing to me and I love playing
model on the side. What I also love about the modelling industry currently is models
are not pretty faces anymore, they have become some of the world’s most influential
individuals and activists using this platform to inspire change and to speak up for
causes they believe in.
What is your ultimate dream – personal and business?
My dream is to live a purposeful life and to touch lives in every part of my life
journey. I dream of having a happy marriage and family one day.
On the business side I would like to one day start an online clothing store selling
clothes I have designed. Another dream is to travel more frequently and explore
the world with my fiancé. The idea would be to have a blog which will showcase
affordable fashion and style trends from all over the world and share it to my
Instagram page.
What is your favourite hobby?
I love, love, love shopping and visiting different local markets. I am a sucker
for a sale and will always find a reason to make that purchase. I love wearing
beautiful clothes and showcasing my own style. I have to admit I have a
shoe obsession.
Tell us about the love in your life and the role he plays?
I am engaged to my best friend. We have been engaged for a year and are
getting married next year May. Marion is my biggest supporter and he always
has my best interests at heart. He is the one person I want to spend all my time
with and the one person I want to share everything with. What I appreciate most
about him is he supports all of my dreams. He will never hold me back, in fact, he
encourages me to be brave.
If you can have one super power, what would it be?
I would love to have the ability to be at more places at once. To duplicate myself
if and when I have to.
What is the key to success?
The key to ultimate success is to find your passion and to know where you make
the biggest impact in life. Work hard to invest in your passion. Only then you can
live a fulfilled life. Success will automatically follow after that.
