performance notes
General notes:
– Instruments should be amplified where available.
– Score is in C.
– All tremolos are unmeasured.
– There are text-guided improvised sections in the work.
winds
– Rapid tonguing / staccato (pitch ad lib if combined with
gliss).
– Rapid legato runs (pitch ad lib if combined with gliss).
– Overblow – fl.
– Semi-random run/gliss.
percussion
– A vibraphone and simple stand-up drum kit setup is
used.
– Drum kit legend:
– Required equipment: 4 x hard vibraphone mallets, drum
stick, bow.
– At bar 105, there is an extended improvised section
involving arco vibraphone and delicate drumstick
suspended cymbal scrapes. Two types of scrapes are
possible by holding the stick at a 90 degree angle to the
suspended cymbal: following a smooth line for a
sustained sound or quickly moving the drumstick for a
shimmering effect. This video clip roughly demonstrates
the idea: https://goo.gl/V2YB9Y
– Gradually get faster or slower.
