THE KING OF NEW YORK NIGHTLIFE
JAKE RESNICOW
Premieres the World’s First 5D Nightclub
This Saturday, November 23, superproducer
Jake Resnicow raises the
bar of nightlife once again, launching
the dance floor experience of
tomorrow… today!
Club ZeroSpace is being billed
as the world’s first 5D nightclub,
allowing guests the ability to touch,
feel and party like never before in a
25,000-square-foot digital playground.
“The future of nightlife is about tapping
into all five senses,” says Resnicow.
“Club ZeroSpace will take clubbers
into another dimension.”
He drew inspiration for the party
from a recent trip to Burning Man.
“I was absolutely blown away by
the art, technology and culture,” he
says. When he returned to NYC, he
connected with the team at ZeroSpace
to see how they could bring a similar
total multimedia experience to NYC.
The fun will begin in the main room of
Club ZeroSpace. Similar to the Saks
Fifth Avenue Holiday Light Show, the
venue will be video mapped, creating
a fully immersive environment as 3D
video effects will be projected on the
club’s 50-foot wall behind the DJ,
synchronized to the music.
There will be five rooms of sensory
experiences, allowing clubbers the
ability to interact with cutting-edge
art installations. For example, a laser
forest will feature an infinity room of
rotating lasers. A separate room will
showcase a dynamic piece from the
artist duo Hybycozo. Another will
feature the world’s largest augmented
reality sandbox where clubbers
can dig and play with the sand as
the lights change with each shift in
topography.

Most
extraordinarily,
the main room
and all five
sensory rooms
will be synced
to fresh, eclectic
house, disco and
trance beats by
DJs Kitty Glitter
(Sydney) and Joe
Pacheco (NYC).
Sound will be
by Jason Ojeda
of Global Audio
Systems, who will
be bringing in a
custom four-point
VOID Acoustics
sound system for the event.
In addition, Parastella, a 20-foot
LED sculpture from Burning
Man, will be on full display,
along with a light show by
world-famous artist Christopher
Shardt.
VIP guests get even more! They are offered
the opportunity to lie down on recliners
and experience the 30-foot geodesic dome
where seats vibrate to the music while
clubbers gaze at a visually-stunning light
show with internal projection mapping.
Since 2009, Resnicow has demonstrated
his passion for creating inclusive
experiences
that celebrate
the LGBTQ+
community. His
biggest parties
include several
Matinee events
throughout
the U.S., and
his recent
WorldPride
extravaganza at
the Javits Center,
which featured
performances
by Bette Midler,
Kygo, Cyndi
Lauper, Brandy,
Billy Porter,
Cirque du Soleil
and STOMP. He
says a lot has
changed in the
10 years since
he first entered
nightlife.

“Ten years ago, clubs offered safe
spaces to express one’s identity,
test new looks, desires and
orientations. Today, since the boom
of social dating apps, there are far
fewer clubs. Our community has
become more selective about going
out.”
That is why he thinks outside the
box with his events, creating one-ofa-kind
experiences aimed at taking
nightlife into the next generation.
Resnicow is currently working
with designer Patricia Field on her
upcoming fashion show and pop-up
launch in Miami Beach during Art
Basel. For New Year’s Eve in NYC,
he will present Rhythm Nation, an
event taking place at a spectacular
multi-level venue with 360-degree
views of the fireworks.
He also has his sights set on
next year’s presidential elections.
Resnicow plans to use his platform
to increase voter participation. “One
in five LGBTQ+ aren’t registered to
vote, despite the fact that our rights
are constantly under attack,” he
says. “From housing discrimination
to adoption policies, the fight for
equality continues. We must inspire
each and every member of our
community to register and vote!”
The world’s first 5D dance floor experience takes place Saturday,
November 23, at Club ZeroSpace, and continues monthly.
Rising Pop Star SuRie to Make
American Debut at NYC’s Rockbar
If you had to describe yourself in three words,
what would they be?
Small, but mighty.
Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell, Billy Joel, Regina
Spektor, Emiliana Torrini and currently also artists
such as Agnes Obel, RY X and Olafur Arnalds.
How exactly would you describe your music
to American audiences?
I’m a piano lead singer-songwriter. Storytelling
pop, with some added sparkle when Eurovision
is involved!
Forget Brexit. Let’s talk about another
phenomenon taking hold in the U.K. at
the moment—SuRie! The up-and-coming
British pop star gained attention last
year for her unforgettable performance
of “Storm” during the 2018 Eurovision
Song Contest, which made international
headlines after an invader stormed the
stage (no pun intended), grabbing her
microphone in the middle of her act. In spite
of the terrifying incident, SuRie immediately
became a household name worldwide,
following up with a string of shows
throughout Europe and cementing herself
as a favorite among the LGBTQ community.
SuRie will be making her American debut
this month with a performance and meetand-greet
at NYC’s Rockbar during the
November EurovisioNYC party. We got a
chance to sit down with her and hear about
what’s next, and that stage moment people
are still talking about.
A lot of people recognize you from the
“moment” seen by millions around the
world, when a stage invader crashed your
performance during the Eurovision Song
Contest. What was going through your mind
when it happened? How have you been able
to move past that incident?
It happened very quickly and very slow mo.
But what was going through my mind was the
incredible crowd in the arena around me and the
desire to finish the track for and with them. I just
needed a microphone back in my hands! I was off
on tour, back onstage five days after the Lisbon
performance, so myself and my team were able
to crack on, keep calm and SuRie on!
What type of message do you hope to bring to
audiences with your music?
That very much depends on the track—
sometimes it’s a message of hope, sometimes
reflection, sometimes desperation. Each piece
might resonate differently with individuals in
the audience. I just hope always for a safe,
supportive space to share songs, feelings,
moments. We’re all in it together.
What’s next for you after Eurovision?
Joyfully continuing to write, record and perform
music. I love my job, am proud of
my work and am delighted to
bring it to New York to share with
you.
See SuRie live at the EurovisioNYC party on November 23 at Rockbar NYC! Visit the
THOMAS
TALKS
ABOUT: TOO CLOSE
My boyfriend isn’t
into all the same stuff
as me, like going
to concerts, bars or
events in the city.
We’ve been together
for four years, and
this hasn’t been a
problem. I guess
maybe a little in the
beginning, but I’ve just
accepted that’s who
he is. Sometimes when
I hang out with other
people though, their
partners are ALWAYS
there. It makes me
wonder if there’s
something wrong with
my relationship. Is it
weird that we’re not
into all the same stuff
or that we don’t go out
together very often?
-Male, Gay, 32
There is nothing
wrong with not doing
everything together
at all times. This also
doesn’t seem to bother
you, so don’t make
something a problem
that isn’t one. Yes, there
are a lot of couples
that do everything
together, but in my
experience, those are
usually the couples
that always argue when
you go out with them.
You’ve been together
for four years. That’s
awesome, and clearly
you’re doing something
that’s working. Part of
what makes it work may
be how you give each
other the space you
need to be individuals.
It also gives you
something more to talk
about because you’re
experiencing different
things.
Two weeks ago, my
boyfriend of over two
years broke up with
me. I’m devastated. He
was my whole world,
and I don’t know what
to do. I’ve been crying
constantly, hardly
eating, not sleeping,
and I’ve been calling
in sick to work. I don’t
even have any friends
to talk to, because I
stopped hanging out
with people when he
and I got closer. He left
me out of nowhere. I
feel like such an idiot.
I’ve been through
breakups before, but
this is so much worse.
I feel f***ing empty
and just over it all. IDK
what to do. I haven’t
felt this bad in a long
time. -Male, Gay, 22
FOR COMFORT
This is one of the
downfalls of spending
all of your time with
someone you’re dating.
If it ends, it can feel
overwhelming, like your
life is over and you
have nothing left. This
is, of course, not true.
You had a life before
this person, and you
can have one after.
Now is a good time
for you to reach out to
your friends that you
lost touch with. If they
really care about you,
they’ll understand you
made some mistakes.
I know it hurts now,
but you can use this
as a learning moment.
Remember, it’s always
important to have a
life outside of your
relationship. Make sure
you’re getting fulfillment
from multiple areas,
that way you never feel
empty when something
doesn’t work out. Take
care of yourself now.
Force yourself to do
things that you know
are good for you.
Make yourself get out
of the apartment, eat
healthy food, work out
and watch comedies.
Treat yourself with as
much love as you’d like
someone else to treat
you. It’ll be OK. xoxo
BY IAN-MICHAEL BERGERON
@ianmichaelinwonderland
I’ve always loved a good
murder mystery.
Clue was my favorite
game when I was
young—it seemed
everyone had the board
game, and every version
was different. (As long as
I got to play Miss Scarlet,
I didn’t care which
version we played—Miss
Scarlet is a gay icon.)
Clue also had a series
of young adult books,
in which poor Mr. Body
kept miraculously
coming back to
life only to get
murdered time
and time again,
that I devoured.
(My mom took
me to Half Price
Books in Des
Moines, Iowa once
a week to look
for them.) And of
course, we cannot
forget the iconic Tim
Curry “Clue” the
movie, one of the
most quotable films I
know.
Now that I’m an adult,
I’ve found that a murder
mystery party is my
favorite kind of party. It
might seem Halloweenesque,
but every year
in November my best
friend Jack throws a
murder mystery for his
birthday.
My favorite part: the
costumes. Last year I was
a gypsy in love with the
richest man in town—we
were going to run away
together until he was
MURDERED. My gypsy
was on point in a satin
top and flowy beaded
shorts, complete with a
Prada S/S 2007 runway
turban. This year: Omari
Black, the morning radio
show host who wanted to
become a news anchor,
from the voice to the
voice and the face (and
I’d do anything to get the
job—even… MURDER).
The theme was to
stick to your namesake
color and dress for
a masquerade, so I
wore all black: a
Murder Mystery
skeleton
bodysuit, lace shorts,
bejeweled tights, lace
Valentino boots, a
Swarovski crystal mask
and—the pièce de
résistance—a floor-length
sheer robe with marabou
feathers. I was the most
glamorous radio host
that ever was.
Jack used every room
in his apartment to
set the scene: The
spare bedroom was a
speakeasy, complete with
a bartender for the night
(who offered several
clues along the way); the
main bedroom was set
with a table in the middle
for group discussions;
the living room the
ballroom, playing old
music on Alexa.
After stuffing my face
with an array of mac and
cheese balls, pigs in a
blanket, mini egg rolls
and the like (if you’re
going to serve alcohol
all night, finger foods
are a must), I got into
character and met the
cast. There were 16
guests, a mix of old
friends, new friends
and some people I’d
never met. (I had
the most fun with
the strangers—it
was easy to stay
in character and
not get caught up
in real life.) Jack
got the murder
mystery kit from
mymysteryparty.
com, which
came with clue
cards for each
character for
three separate rounds.
Three green apple
martinis later, half the
room guessed I was the
murderer (which I wasn’t),
and only one of us
guessed the right fiend.
The bartender awarded
several ribbons: I got first
place for best costume.
Afterward, Alexa played
on long into the night
while we drank and
wondered which of us
would get murdered next
year.
