Captains Report
Benoni Lake Golf Club
A beautiful Sunday morning greeted us
made especially wonderful by the world
cup win the previous day. After much
welcome rain had fallen the course had softened up a little. Many players
were nursing sore heads but proud hearts. Terry, Lindsay and Cathy were
really the early birds this time with our shotgun start scheduled for
6:30am and registration at 5:30am. Terry had put in a lot of extra time to
have everything sorted before the rush and I can tip my cap to this wonderfully
organised damsel once more. Amazingly there were no late comers
and we tee’d off at precisely 6:30. This was an experiment to see if
the format would work and it went off very smoothly followed by much
positive comment. The round was completed in 4.5 hours and the ladies
had the results sheet ready in 55 minutes. The pressure that they worked
under to achieve this is great. I would believe that the format could work
even better for an afternoon field.
A big thank you to the Lake club for their assistance, Robbie Frank
(chairman), Paul Slaven (club captain), Rachel Hunter (Pro) and the staff
in the pro shop, Julie and Wendy and the staff in the halfway house and
Wesley and his staff having the course ready so early. One can get an
idea of how much organisation goes into getting a golf day ready for your
enjoyment. The next time you feel like venting your anger due to a small
mishap on the day, spare a thought for all the work that has been done
to try and give you the perfect golf experience. Thanks to Ray Karshagen
for getting up early to come and marshal (Loco)
