A people and their follies, it becomes harder to fill

your carts with frivolous items.

The appreciation for the planet has improved

tenfold as a prescribed awareness drives ecoconscious

decisions. But can the same be said for our

actions toward humankind? Some people act in the

best interests of others, no matter the season, and in

this issue we celebrate them.

Shelley Robinson shares stories of five everyday

heroes that make a significant difference by putting

their own needs far below the needs of others.

It’s inspiring and thought-provoking – and perhaps

just what you need to help focus your New Year’s

Inspiration is often not far from home, and you

might have a Christmas ‘angel’ in your midst too.

Publisher Charlotte Smulders has hosted the Child

Cancer Christmas party for eight years, putting smiles

on some very precious faces. She has co-organised

key fundraising events for Starship National Air

Ambulance Service and provided Christmas cheer to

struggling families through various gifting services.

On Christmas Day, Style sales manager Viv

Montgomerie and her daughter will be on salad duty

at the City Mission lunch, for Viv’s third consecutive

year. Not that her generous nature stops there. Viv

has clocked up 52 blood and plasma donations with

fortnightly visits to the New Zealand Blood Service,

and she is on the roster of volunteers at Ronald

McDonald House South Island that ensures families

in residence have all they need, no matter the hour.

We hope you find time to appreciate the people

that make your world go around and, until next year,

enjoy the latest Style.
