First Dance

First Date

A couple of months had passed since that rainy day and not

surprisingly Holly had remained true to her word and not

made any attempt to talk to the straight-faced Alex. Who

could blame her?

But fate had a very different plan in mind when the pair

bumped into each other on the dance floor of The Regal

Nightclub in Ripley.

Alex was pleased that he was in his comfort zone this time

and spoke to her.

He laughed when Holly looked at him in disbelief. She was

stunned that he could really speak. It certainly was the ice

breaker Alex had been waiting for. Now all he had to do

was get around to asking her out.

First Question

Alex wasn’t prepared to let the grass grow under his feet

this time. He’d decided that the next time he saw Holly

he’d just come out with it.

No more beating about the bush, he’d just ask. After all

what was the worst that could happen? She may not want a

date, but at least he’d know.

Holly was a little taken aback by his confidence on that

Monday morning. “He just walked straight up to me and

asked if he could take me out properly. Then he took my

number.”

Alex still remembers the first time he took Holly out. “It was a

night at the cinema and then we went to the pub afterwards.

Although, I couldn’t drive at the time. So technically Holly took me

out”

They both agree that they hit it off right away and things just got

better from there.

Time Together

Holly and Alex were so comfortable in each other’s company that it

wasn’t very long until they spent most of their time together. Holly

admits that it was in only a couple of weeks she knew that he was

the one she wanted to spend her life with.

The Proposal

The Ceremony

Marriage – Registrar

Our Vows – Traditional

When they went on a weekend break at Center Parks, Sherwood Forest

in May 2018 Holly had no idea what was about to happen. It had been

her favorite place to go since forever and Alex knew it. She’d been

almost every year with her family, but this year it would be different.

Not because she was going with Alex, they had already been there more

than once in recent years. This time in his packed bag, he had a secret.

Alex knew marriage was important to Holly for the future, for family

and security. The idea about making that commitment had spent a while

circling in his head. He’s one of those few guys that recognize that girls

have been dreaming and planning romantic proposals or weddings since

they managed to balance in Mum’s high heels. He knew that when he

asked her, he just wanted it to be perfect.

“Holly’s Mum and Dad had given us the weekend away as a gift at

Christmas. I thought, what a better time for me to pop the question?! I

knew how much Holly loved this place. I bought the ring two weeks

before we were due to go, and I went to ask her parents’ permission.”

So, with Holly’s parents in the know all Alex had to do was bend the

knee and say it. Of course, he had to find the perfect spot as well as the

perfect moment. This wasn’t as easy as it sounded but he knew he’d

figure it out somehow. It would have helped if he wasn’t trembling.

Our Story

Anyone that has seen Holly and Alex together knows

that they are hopelessly in love and share a devotion to

each other.

But there are some things that friends or family

members might not know about how today came about.

In these pages you’ll discover their story as they tell it.

It’s presented in this little book for you to keep as a

memento of the special day of two special people.

How We Met

Holly and Alex met in 2014 at DFS where they both

worked. Alex was training to be an upholster there

when he spotted an infectious smile on the fresh face of

the new machinist runner Holly.

He was totally smitten but was instantly so shy that he

couldn’t manage a word.

Holly had noticed him too, but he always seemed so

serious. She thought he wasn’t exactly the happiest

looking person when he’d walk past, but there was

something about him.

Over the coming weeks the two would make eye

contact, but never spoke. Alex would wink at her with a

strange half smile but nothing else. She began to

wonder why he was looking at her.

The Thing About Holly

Spending time together has been good for both of them. It takes time to get to

know people, to love and trust.

What Alex has discovered about Holly is what he loves most about her.

“She’s selfless. She cherishes her family and is so beautiful throughout. She is

infectious! She’s also a pain in the arse and quite high maintenance, but I

wouldn’t change a thing.”

As many loving couples do Holly and Alex have given each other many gifts

and material tokens of their love. But there is one gift that Alex treasures above

all others. It’s not something he knew he needed.

“The best gift Holly has given me is a different outlook on life.”

With a new perspective Alex appreciates just how good life can be

The Thing About Alex

Despite that sometimes grumpy and serious exterior over time Alex has

gradually opened up to Holly, bringing them closer still.

What Holly loves most about Alex is that “He isn’t that hard-faced, serious

person I saw 5 years ago. He really is the softest and kindest person with a lot

of love to give. He works hard to give us the best things in life.

Holly to Alex -

“I love you endlessly and I can’t wait to begin our future together as husband

and wife”

Love Blossoms

Like a great deal of men Alex is not one to share his feelings very

often.

“He mainly keeps a lot of his emotions to himself. I remember the

first time that he told me that he loved me. I thought he was going

to pass out!”

Alex remembers when he and Holly started living together. “After

only six months together I moved out of my flat and moved in with

Holly and her family.

As nerve wracking as that change was for me, I went for it. All the

Wilson’s made me feel right at home!”

First Words

One rainy day on her drive home from work Holly saw

Alex walking down the street. Knowing that he was going

to get soaked through she pulled over and wound down

the window of the car. “Do you need a lift?” she shouted

to be heard above the pelting raindrops.

At first, he looked shocked that she even spoke. His

response was something that Holly will never forget. He

raised an index finger to his lips and gave an abrupt

“Ssshhh!”

It was one of those moments where an awkward silence

seems to last so much longer than it does in reality. Holly

thought for a moment and decided not to even bother with

him. She hadn’t expected him to be so rude.

As she drove away Alex realized that he’d

probably blown the chance of ever getting her to like

him now. He couldn’t believe he’d been so tongue tied.

What was happening to him?

While Alex stayed busy trying to figure out when and

how he’d be able to ask her for her phone number, Holly

had other ideas. After that encounter she resolved not to

bother with him ever again.

By the following week she had kind thoughts though. She

had realized that there was a distinct possibility that Alex

had something wrong with his voice. She didn’t know

what, but it would explain that “Shush!” so simply.

It wasn’t the type of thing you go around asking people

about and she hadn’t heard him speak to anyone else

either.

Well Wishers

There were so many family members that

we wish could be here today. Many have

sent us their love and wishes for the future

already. We know that some are not able to

attend because they are with the angels, to

them we give our love and trust that they are

watching.

Life Just Gets Better

Holly was aware that something was bothering Alex as they headed out for dinner that

evening. “ He didn’t really seem present as we were out walking. I tried to make

conversation but was just getting one-word replies. I remember asking him if he was

okay as he was a bit stiff and pale. He just said he needed a drink.”

They were walking beside the lake just as Alex had planned. The day was drawing to a

close and the sunset was perfect. This was his moment, but he had never been so

nervous. His hands were shaking in his pockets as he toyed with the treasure that he

carried. He had set the scene earlier in the day.

“We had walked to the end of the lake when I realized I had bottled it.”

There was only one thing to be done, turn back to that spot where Holly had said she

wanted their photo in front of that lake.

Holly said “ I turned to ask a couple behind us if they would take a photo of us with the

lake behind. When I turned around Alex was down on one knee with a ring in his hand.

I don’t even know the words that came out of his mouth as they all seemed to blur into

one. I don’t even recall if I said yes. I just remember jumping on him! It really couldn’t

have been any more perfect, it truly was the best day”

And Better

Alex to Holly –

“You helped me to realise and become the person that I want to be”
