DISABLED PEOPLE IN

STREET

The number of people who need

wheelchairs in the world is alm

ost certainly much more than

67 million and the number of

people who have wheelchair

less than 65 million. They

unable to walk, jump, run... So

they don't need steps,ladders or

stairs.

For the physically disabled,

barriers can range from blocked

wheelchair ramps, to buildings

without lifts, to inaccessible

toilets, to shops without stepfree

access. Meanwhile, for

learning disabled people or

those on the autistic spectrum,

the cluttered and hectic

metropolitan environment can

be a sensory minefield.

“The fear of not being

able . to navigate busy,

cluttered and visually

oriented environments

is a major barrier to

participation in

normal life”

Streets, roadways, and

highways are required to be

more wheelchair accessible by

having curb cuts and ramps.

Street designers and urban

planners don’t focus enough

on people with disabilities.
