If you’re serious about improving your lyric writing<br />
and going somewhere with it grab a pen and paper,<br />
we’ve got some writing to do:<br />
Tell Me About Your Made It Moment....<br />
What’s it feel like when time stops as you reach your<br />
dream goal?<br />
Shivers? Spotlights?<br />
Are you hearing your words on the radio? Getting<br />
your first royalty cheque?<br />
Stop and imagine it.<br />
Close your eyes and enjoy the feeling of reaching<br />
your songwriting dream!<br />
Now before you let reality crush your dreams and<br />
you start thinking but I can’t. I’ll never, that’s too big<br />
a dream.. write about it!<br />
Pretend it’s a piece of fiction if it helps. If you want to<br />
be a writer, write about it, point form is fine:<br />
What would a made it momentfeel like, look like,<br />
sound like?<br />
What knowledge, skills, connections with other<br />
people will help you get to your dream?<br />
What steps or smaller goals do you need to get there?<br />
write at least 10 before you continue.<br />

<strong>Write</strong> it down to help make it real, go get a pen and<br />
paper, I’ll wait. Seriously...<br />
Now that you’ve thought about and written about it<br />
you’ve got an impressive list, yes? There’s at least a<br />
page of dreams and ideas in front of you. So much to<br />
do, probably too much. Instead of getting<br />
overwhelmed be gentle with yourself, dial it back and<br />
find the best first step:<br />
What can you do consistently over the next year to<br />
move towards your dream?<br />
Here are some ideas to get you thinking:<br />
Knowledge<br />
You need to know what to do: how to generate<br />
interesting song ideas, how to write effective lyrics,<br />
how to structure them into a song...<br />
To learn more about lyric structure, you could<br />
analyze a song each week.<br />
You could take a lyric writing course and carve out<br />
30 minutes, 4 nights a week to work on it.<br />
What knowledge would help you achieve your<br />
songwriting dream and how will you learn it?<br />
Skills<br />
Knowledge is power, but it takes songwriting skills<br />
to create solid lyrics.. What lyric writing skills would<br />
improve your songs?<br />
For more emotional impact with your lyrics spend<br />
an hour a week building a list of awesome lines you<br />
love.<br />
To make it easier to start new songs, create a list of<br />
titles to refer to when you’re starting a new song and<br />
brainstorm new title ideas at least once a week.<br />
To practice coming up with lyric ideas quickly, for a<br />
month spend 10 minutes a day brainstorming ideas<br />
for you latest song.<br />
If you want to make more time for songwriting, you<br />
can consistently work on your songwriting a little<br />
every day.<br />
