THE QUARTERLY TEA

Official Newsletter of SGMP PNW Chapter

Published by Amber Holcomb, Director Supplier

PRESIDENT'S PEN

BECKI ELLISON, SGMP PNW CHAPTER PRESIDENT

Welcome to our Newsletter, The Quarterly Tea,

formerly known as Network News (1987-2009). It's

been 10 years since an issue of our newsletter has

been published, and this year, we as your board of

directors are thrilled to reestablish such a great way

to communicate all the wonderful happenings of

SGMP PNW Chapter to you.

The PNW Chapter Board of Directors kicked off our 2019-2020 year

by spending a full day in July at our board retreat discussing

upcoming programming, budget and membership. We are so proud

to announce that this year's theme is:

“Connect and Invest in the Next 35 Years”.

In order to invest in the next 35 years, the board has made some

fun changes. This year we want to focus on growing our

membership by challenging all members to get out there and share

your reasons why you benefit from SGMP, and encouraging them to

bring a guest to a meeting. We are also putting a large emphasis on

providing programs to educate our members on subjects they find

most challenging so they can take what they learn into planning

future government meetings.

Another change for the year is our new charity The Healing

Center. The Healing Center offers a safe, loving place that honors

grief and helps individuals move through it and heal.

NEWS FROM NATIONAL

SGMP Response to the

Government Shutdown

“The partial Federal Government shutdown is having a

negative impact on the meetings industry, and the

government meetings industry has been hit particularly

hard. The Society of Government Meeting Professionals

SGMP) is aware of conferences that have been delayed,

canceled, or rescheduled. Meetings and conferences serve

a vital function where collaboration, training and

relationships are built to drive our nation’s innovation

and prosperity. A shutdown unfortunately has many

unintended consequences that hurt the work of the

government, industry and the many suppliers and

communities that make meetings and events possible. We

are also concerned for our members as well as all others

who may not be paid during this time and face financial

hardship. SGMP will be working with its members and

chapters to do all we can to help. When the shutdown lifts,

it will be important more than ever for government and

industry to work together to get back on

track. For everyone’s benefit, SGMP hopes a resolution is

reached soon.”
