LET'S GO CARAVAN &

CAMPING IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA

South Australia is a State of contrasts and surprises. There are 11

distinct regions to explore, encompassing everything from rugged

coasts to sandy swimming beaches, wine country, the mighty

Murray River and the awesome Outback. Choose one region to

suit the season or indulge in an extended drive holiday across the

State for a mix of relaxation, adventure and discovery.

Anyone with a passion for nature and wildlife is particularly well

catered for. The State features vast expanses of untouched

beaches and wilderness with some stunning national and

conservation parks along the way.

South Australia’s popularity as a travel destination also has a lot

to do with good living. Fresh, quality food, award winning wines,

vibrant arts festivals and major national and international

sporting events are part of the locals’ lifestyle.

Eat and drink your way around world famous wine regions

such as the Barossa and Clare Valley, visit Adelaide’s vibrant

Central Market or relax on one of the city’s many multicultural

café strips.

For further information and assistance with planning your holiday

there is information on each region together with a listing of

caravan parks in this guide.

Take time to relax and enjoy your

South Australian holiday.

PET FRIENDLY

Many parks in South Australia will welcome your pet if you plan to bring it on

holiday. You can easily check which caravan parks accepts pets by seeing the

Pet Friendly Park symbol on the park listings throughout this magazine.

PARK

Remember, with a little planning and care you

and your pet can enjoy a great holiday!

4

What does this symbol mean? Some important

things to remember when travelling with your pet:

• Always ring ahead to check your pet will be welcome. Caravan

parks that take pets will have conditions. This may mean they only

accept certain animals, or they may not take pets during peak periods.

• Pets will generally be accepted on sites and in your accommodation.

They will usually not be allowed in cabins or in amenities areas.

• Some caravan parks now offer pet friendly Cabin Accommodation

options. Those parks that offer this facility will state this in their listing.

• When contacting the park, always talk to park managers about pet

rules and if there are any pet friendly common areas in the park. Some

parks are finding spaces to allow pet owners and their pets to move off

their site and socialise with others.

• Pets will not enjoy their holiday if left unattended, so if you are leaving

the park, always take your pet with you.

• Remember to keep your pet on a leash at all times and to clean up any

mess left by your pet immediately.

• Barking dogs can be a nuisance and detract from people's enjoyment,

please keep your dog quiet when staying in a caravan park.

• Please be aware that other people in the park are also on holiday, keep

the impact of your pet to a minimum so that it does not detract from

other people's enjoyment.

Guide Dogs, Hearing Dogs, and Assistance Dogs are allowed different

conditions to pets. Owners of such dogs are also advised to ring

ahead and check with the caravan park.

ADELAIDE

RoofClimb Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, Ian Routledge

Adelaide is not only South Australia’s

premier tourist destination but also a true

gateway to the many other tourist regions

within the state.

The food and wine experience starts right in the city centre with

the National Wine Centre, Adelaide Central Market, vibrant cafés

and restaurants boasting some of Australia’s best chefs and events

such as Tasting Australia.

The city centre, surrounded by parklands, is a charming blend of

historic buildings and wide streets where you can spend countless

hours in the shops, street cafés and restaurants.

Adelaide is known as the city of food and wine; a place to

experience the buzz, culture and convenience of a big city without

the frustrations. The city is conveniently located close to all of the

state’s most recognised tourist regions including the Barossa,

Kangaroo Island and the Flinders Ranges. Just a few minutes drive

from the city centre are the picturesque beachside suburbs of

Glenelg, Brighton, Henley and Semaphore. Alive with vibrant cafés

and shopping, these areas offer a great chance to relax and soak

up Adelaide's lifestyle and charm.

CHECKLIST

FOR A TROUBLE

FREE HOLIDAY

A trouble-free holiday is a joy – but nothing will spoil your

holiday mood more than a mechanical mishap that could have

been prevented. Listed below is a basic checklist. It’s wise to

develop your own, which is specific to your van. Put it on your

phone or print it out and laminate it so you can use it again and

again in any conditions. It certainly makes your pre-trip “to do”

tasks a lot easier. At the end of this page is a list of companies

that can assist you. You should consult the experts when you are

still ‘new to the game’ or if issues such as stability are a concern.

From time to time, even if you are an ‘old hand’, getting a

complete check of the mechanical condition of your van is a

wise investment.

CARAVAN INTERIOR

Check the functionality of all critical internal features, including

the fridge, cooktop, water pump, air conditioner and toilet.

Cupboards and drawers closed and table secured

Refrigerator door locked - check that containers with liquids

are sealed Hatches and windows closed No loose items in

cupboards or on shelves Fire extinguisher fitted First aid kit

CARAVAN EXTERIOR

How long since your gas cylinders and LPG regulators were

checked? Ensure your gas cylinders are completely off and well

secured before driving Is it time to flush out water tanks and

check for mould? Water tank filled How are your brakes?

Make sure you do a small test drive before your big trip and leave

time for remedial work if required Wheel bearings adjusted

Wheel nuts tight Check the condition of your tyres,

including spares, and that the tyre pressure matches your load

If you have changed tyres yourself, always remember to

retighten the nuts once the van is completely back on the ground

Does your handbrake need adjustment? What is the status of

safety chains and the jockey wheel?

Note: It is advisable to have the caravan serviced by a specialist

prior to the journey.

BEFORE MOVING OFF

Jockey wheel removed or secured Check indicators,

reversing and brake lights Gas turned off Tyres inflated

Pike and Joyce Wines, Crush

Festival 2015, Adelaide Hills

Wine Region/SATC

Let's go

to the

ADELAIDE

HILLS

Welcome to the Adelaide Hills, where each

distinct season provides another reason to

visit – from the romantic morning mists

and cosy fires of winter, profusion of

garden colour in spring, cool shady beer

gardens and fruit picking in summer, to the

glorious leaves of autumn.

Cuddle a koala, meet winemakers, enjoy a craft beer or cider, pick

your own fruit, come for one of the many events and markets, or

enjoy a lunch that lasts all afternoon. While regional gateways are

just a 20 minute drive from Adelaide, be sure to explore further

afield and take your time to discover the diverse landscape, where

corduroy vineyards intersect with rambling forest and steep ridges

yield to rolling hills and orchards. Fine studios and galleries

abound, from the immense cultural legacy of Sir Hans Heysen’s

home, ‘The Cedars’, to grassroots community spaces. Over 50

cellar doors are spread across the Hills, from tiny solo acts to slick,

contemporary venues.

Cheese and chocolate, craft beer and cider, gin, and even bread

and jam are made the old-fashioned way – with hands and heart.

You can satisfy your appetite in a country pub or bakery, take a

gourmet approach in a sophisticated restaurant, or picnic with

local produce fresh from the farm gate or roadside stall.

See detailed map on page 65.

HOLIDAYING IN CABIN

ACCOMMODATION

Cabin accommodation has never looked so good.

For those who want to experience the

caravan and camping lifestyle in

exceptional locations, cabin

accommodation offers a huge variety of

styles and choices.

Many SA caravan holiday parks have

undergone major changes, with cabins

evolving from basic accommodation to

luxurious lodgings.

Great for family holidays, cabins come in all

shapes and sizes so families can enjoy a

great getaway without the hassle of setting

up tents or towing caravans. Many parks

have great facilities for families such as

swimming pools, jumping pillows,

playgrounds and other great features.

More and more couples are discovering

that cabin accommodation in caravan

holiday parks is a spacious, comfortable

and value for money getaway. There is an

opportunity for relaxing in beautiful

surrounds and enjoying a little romance.

Cabin holidays are an ideal option for

nature lovers who want to enjoy the

outdoors and make the most of the laid

back lifestyle while still enjoying all the

modern conveniences.

For those who like to travel with their pets

there are now some parks who offer cabin

accommodation options. Check out the

park listings in this magazine for those

parks that offer a pet friendly cabin

accommodation option.

The best feature of many caravan holiday

parks is their great location. In SA they

may be close to all facilities of Adelaide, on

the banks of the River Murray, near a

beautiful beachside, or central to tourist

attractions of a country town.

Why not try a cabin holiday, South

Australia’s caravan parks are nearly

always located at the best site in town.

LIVING IN RESIDENTIAL PARKS

Offering an appealing and

affordable lifestyle option,

with a sense of security and

friendship!

Living in a Park or Village is a lifestyle

choice with many benefits, including

location, affordability, friendships and a

feeling of security. As one survey found.

“The most common strength of caravan

parks identified was the sense of

community residents experienced.”

Residential Parks and Villages are designed

for 100% residential living options and

some Caravan Parks also offer Residential

living options. Exclusively Residential

Parks/Villages will offer you the option to

reside in a beautiful purpose built home

while still enjoying the holiday lifestyle all

year round.

Residential Parks cater for long term living

in modern two or three bedroom homes on

easy to maintain sites. Brand new homes

can be purchased for very reasonable prices

with the land leased for a modest weekly

rental that includes access to all facilities.

Parks take pride in fostering a warm,

friendly community atmosphere where

residents can enjoy the benefits of having

neighbours and park management nearby,

while still living independently in their own

home. This provides a great sense of

security for residents and is a refreshing

change from the impersonal life of the

suburbs. Residents often feel it is safe to

travel and leave the home, while at the park

they have neighbours close by.

Facilities often include swimming pools,

attractive landscaping and a community

hall. The community hall and other

common areas allow residents to meet in a

relaxed social environment. Some parks

also have an organised social club offering

a diverse range of activities for residents.

Residential Park/Village living is a very

affordable option for retirees. Many are

realising that residing in a Residential Park/

Village is a sensible affordable alternative

to high cost, high maintenance, isolated

living in the old family home in the suburbs.

Alternatively, if you are looking for a

residential stay at a caravan park there are

a diverse range of caravan parks in regional

locations that offer a mix of tourist and

residential accommodation. Residential

living options will vary considerably in these

mixed parks.

Manufactured Homes Insurance Agency

(MHIA) offer competitive premiums to

people who reside within Residential home

parks. They automatically include events

like Accidental Damage and Mechanical and

electrical burnout, while many insurers

class these as additional options.

MHIA also recognises that many people

who reside in Residential Villages like to

travel Australia and so they don’t penalise

you for leaving your home for long periods

of time. Check your insurance exclusions

as many companies limit the length of time

you can leave your home unattended. To

find out more, call: 1800 67 67 00

Let's go to the

EYRE PENINSULA

Port Lincoln, Josh Geelen

The Eyre Peninsula is the ultimate escape

from modern day living, where unspoilt

nature at its rugged best can be found

along the coasts and beaches.

With more than 2,000 kilometres of Australian coastline, you get as

much space to yourself as you need.

The Eyre Peninsula presents you with the perfect opportunity to

experience unforgettable sea adventures, like swimming with sea

lions or cage diving with Great White Sharks.

Along this coastal expanse are sheltered coves and bays that are

perfect for fishing, secluded beaches, and stunning cliff faces that

provide the perfect vantage point for spotting giant whales as they

undertake their annual migration through the Southern Ocean. The

Eyre Peninsula is home to national parks, ancient caves, and the

Nullarbor - the vast, treeless plain that has fascinated those with

an explorer’s spirit, ever since the area was discovered.

With charming seaside accommodation and mouth-watering local

seafood, you will soon discover there is no shortage of “creature

comforts”.

FOOD, WINE &

EATING OUT

Adelaide Hills, Meaghan Coles

Research reveals that the most popular

activity for people enjoying a caravan

holiday is “eating out”.

South Australia has some of Australia’s best food and wine

experiences, from a casual lunch on a pristine beach to fine dining

in Australia’s top restaurants.

Adelaide has always been praised for its diversity and quality of

restaurants, and this has improved in recent years as the inner-city

laneways have been transformed into a vibrant small bar scene,

many with excellent dining options. The metropolitan coastal strip

from Semaphore to Seacliff and beyond is a “must” in summer,

while the Adelaide Hills, with its burgeoning reputation as a cool

climate wine region, is worth a visit at any time of year. The Hills,

along with the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island, are studded

with cafes, restaurants and wineries, as well as chocolatiers and

cheese makers.

Beyond the local cafes, pubs and restaurants, there are many food

markets which also have great dining experiences. In Adelaide you

can’t go past Adelaide Central Market, as well as the Adelaide

Farmers Market, Plant 4 Bowden and the Market Shed On Holland.

For Australia’s best local produce further afield, try the Stirling

Market, Willunga Farmers Markets, Goolwa Wharf Markets,

Stansbury Seaside Market, Sevenhill Producers Market, Barossa

Farmers Market… the list is seemingly endless.

If you love seafood, then head to the pristine coastlines of the Eyre

and Yorke Peninsulas. Port Lincoln is Australia's seafood capital

and is home to Australia’s biggest commercial fishing fleet.

Whether it’s fresh whiting, export quality tuna, abalone or freshly

shucked Coffin bay oysters, seafood aficionados will be in heaven!

For those in search of authentic bush tucker, Port Augusta is a

gateway to the State’s Far North, while the Riverland and Murray

River, Lakes & Coorong offer lazy days sipping and supping at

riverbank cafes, wineries and distilleries.

SA is also known as The Wine State, with the world famous Barossa

Valley the jewel in the crown. Whether it’s the Barossa, Clare,

McLaren Vale or Coonawarra, premium wine and a relaxing cellar

door experience is the order of the day. The Limestone Coast is

home to the Coonawarra, Wrattonbully, Mount Benson, Mount

Gambier and Padthaway wine regions.

Many wineries also have wonderful restaurants in classic vineyard

settings, perfect for a long, indulgent lunch.

On a rainy day, it’s good to be able to get out of your caravan or

tent, and South Australian hotels are regarded as some of the best

in the nation, thanks to a massive wave of redevelopment. Beer

lovers might also like to seek out one of the many craft brewers

dotted across the state, some of which are now adding casual

dining to their repertoire.

There’s no doubt that good food and wonderful wines can make a

good holiday great, so enjoy the best South Australia has to offer.

Let's go to the

FLINDERS RANGES & OUTBACK

Adventure in an ancient land

Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, Coober Pedy, Elise Cook

A break to the Flinders Ranges and Outback fills visitors with a

sense of wonder and offers a completely new way of seeing the

world. From the pioneering history of outback explorers to modern

facilities, luxury eco villas and outback cuisine, the region offers

adventure in an ancient land for every taste.

You can delve into rich Aboriginal cultures on a tour with traditional

owners, walk along the edge of the vast salt Lake Eyre, four-wheel

drive on stations or an iconic outback track, fly over the iconic

Wilpena Pound, have a beer with the locals in an iconic outback

pub and take a dip in a remote thermal spring!

The options are seemingly endless, from staying in luxury

accommodation to swagging it under the stars. If you enjoy being

active, there is the chance to noodle for opal in the opal capital of

the world, Coober Pedy, to sleep underground, hike the Heysen

Trail, drive through ancient Brachina Gorge, take the Pichi Richi

Train, do the only eco arid lands water cruise in Australia. A good

place to start is with a visit to the Wadlata Outback Centre, where

you can marvel and learn about the stars at Arkaroola and see the

Arid Smart nursery at the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden.

See detailed maps on pages 59 & 60.

CYCLING

South Australia has some fantastic cycling

trails. Bike trails and cycling paths are

located all around the state and are a

great way to see Adelaide and the regions.

Whether it’s a leisurely ride through the

vineyards or some extreme two wheeled

mountain biking action. Here are just a few

great cycling trails:

RIVER TORRENS LINEAR PARK

Ideal for families, the Linear Park runs

through the city all the way between the

Mt Lofty Ranges and the coastal suburb of

Henley Beach. You can start from

anywhere along the trail and the

picturesque river bank reveals its

different landscapes along the way.

ENCOUNTER BIKEWAY FLEURIEU

PENINSULA

This cycling trail follows the coastline to

link the towns of Victor Harbor, Port Elliot,

Middleton and Goolwa. Pick up part of the

ride from any of the 4 towns along the way.

A flat ride it is suitable for all ages and

fitness levels.

RIESLING TRAIL CLARE VALLEY

27km trail running along an old railway

line. This trail takes in farmland, vineyards

and wooded areas with options for cellar

door stops along the way, this easy pace

trail stretches from Auburn to Barinia.

COAST TO VINES RAIL TRAIL

This trail starts at the seaside suburb of

Marino in Adelaide and follows the former

rail corridor to the Willunga township.

Cycling, Tolley Reserve, Nuriootpa, Sven Kovac

WALKING

There are hundreds of great walking trails in South Australia.

Walking can bring you close to nature and is an ideal form of seeing

the sights while also getting some exercise. There are walks in

national parks, heritage walks and coastal walks.

HEYSEN TRAIL - One of the world's great walking trails this 1200km

trail starts at Cape Jervis on Fleurieu Peninsula and winds its way

through many regions of the state with its end point in Parachilna

Gorge in the Flinders Ranges. The Trail has been designed to cater

for both the serious backpacker and for the day walker who might

choose to do short walks along different sections.

WATERFALL GULLY TO MT LOFTY ADELAIDE - Just 2km the walk

ascends from the Adelaide Plains to the Mt Lofty Ranges. Due to

the fact that it climbs 475m from bottom to top it is loved by

fitness fanatics. It is one of Adelaide’s most beautiful metropolitan

walks traversing through eucalypt forest and with fantastic views

over the city of Adelaide.

WALK THE YORKE, YORKE PENINSULA - This is a 500km trail that

traces the entire coastline of the Yorke Peninsula revealing cliffs,

beaches and scenery. The trail skirts mangroves, grain paddocks,

seaside towns and untouched beaches. Pick up the walk at any spot

around the Peninsula. Why not stay at Hillocks Drive (see ad right)?

34

WILDERNESS TRAIL, KANGAROO ISLAND - This 61km trail starts

inside Flinders Chase National Park and traverses pristine beaches,

cliff tops and popular KI attractions such as Remarkable Rocks

and Kelly Hill Caves. There are 5 designated stages of the walk so

check out what suits your interest and fitness level.

Whatever your interest, your age, or your fitness level

there are great walks to be found. Why not check out

South Australia’s many walks at www.walkingsa.org.au

Let's go to

KANGAROO

ISLAND

Red Banks, Kangaroo Island, Ben Goode

Kangaroo Island is one of the world’s great

wilderness destinations.

Australia’s third largest island stretches 155 kilometres long and 55

kilometres wide. The coastline is big enough to bestow a real sense of

peace, wild enough to harbour a few secrets and small enough to tour.

You can quietly ‘go bush’ and see native Australian animals and birds

as they were meant to be - in the wild.

Kangaroo Island offers a wealth of inspiring nature-based experiences.

Flinders Chase National Park is the place to watch the New Zealand

Fur Seals at Admirals Arch, marvel at the sculptures of Remarkable

Rocks, observe rare Australian Sea Lions at Seal Bay, and make a date

to meet the Little Penguins as they emerge from the sea at the end of

their working day. ‘KI’ as the locals call it, is big and surprisingly

diverse, so you will always find somewhere to call your own to enjoy a

little quiet time and let nature soothe your spirit. If you are an

experience seeker, there is the opportunity to scuba dive, snorkel, fish,

surf, kayak or quad bike.

Kangaroo Island has a thriving food and wine industry so get ready to

enjoy freshwater crayfish (Marron), lobsters, the famous King George

Whiting, local oysters and the world’s finest Ligurian Bee honey. The

wine industry is only young but we’re ripening to perfection so call in

to one of the many cellar doors for a drop. To get to the island, you

can choose to fly, drive or take a coach to Cape Jervis and connect

with the regular passenger and car ferry.

See detailed map on page 62.

EXPLORE THE LANDSCAPES

OF SA IN YOUR 4WD

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to

off-road adventures in South Australia.

More tracks have opened to cater for the

growing popularity of 4WD holidays, with

options for either self-drive or joining a

4WD tour. This article highlights just a small

selection of the many self-drive options,

most of which will get you into sites and

scenes that the average tourist will never

get to see. Some are free and some are not,

some are easy to drive, and some are not,

so make sure you do your homework before

heading out.

BEFORE YOU GO…

• If you’re a beginner, consider 4WD

training before you set off, or join a “Tag

Along” tour to learn the ins and outs in

varying terrain.

• Know your vehicle and your limits. Deflate

your tyres and have the necessary

equipment and knowledge in case of an

accident or emergency.

• Conditions can vary considerably on 4WD

tracks and are influenced by seasonality

and weather. Obtain current track

information from the local visitor

information centre before heading off.

• Give way. Australian road rules apply on

4WD tracks & beaches. Vehicles must be

roadworthy and registered. Wear a

seatbelt, drive at appropriate speed and

don’t drink and drive.

• Stay on defined tracks and “tread lightly"

in these pristine environments. Don’t

trespass onto private property.

• Leave only tyre tracks & footprints. Take

all your refuse back to designated rubbish

deposits.

• Always let someone know where you are

going and your expected arrival time.

A TASTE OF SOME EASY TRACKS AND

PICTURESQUE SPOTS

For more simple driving pleasures, consider

driving on one of South Australia’s beautiful

beaches.

Close to Adelaide there’s Sellicks Beach and

Silver Sands (it’s easy driving, which is

accessible by 2WD, too). A bit further afield,

Long Beach at Robe is another entry-level

favourite as is North Beach at Wallaroo on

Yorke Peninsula.

There are also several drives that are a step

up, including Fleurieu Peninsula’s drive from

Goolwa Beach to mouth of the Murray River,

Emu Bay on Kangaroo Island and Coffin Bay

National Park and Shelly Beach on Eyre

Peninsula.

GREAT DESTINATIONS AND TRAILS IN

REGIONAL SA

Favourites in the Limestone Coast region

include the Canunda National Park and the

Little Dip Conservation Park where a mix of

bush, dunes and coast driving abounds. For

other options in The Limestone Coast

Region go online and check out the 4WD

Explorers Guide.

The iconic Coorong National Park should be

high on your list if you are a fan of beach

driving. Cruise along deserted shorelines

and set up for a spot of fishing or boating.

It’s an easy drive, south-east of Adelaide.

If you prefer something a bit ‘lumpier’, there

is a huge number of 4WD tracks throughout

the Flinders, Outback & Eyre regions. There’s

the famous Oodnadatta and Strzelecki

Tracks, the Gawler Ranges, and the Nullabor

National Park, but there are literally dozens

of other amazing options. We suggest you

grab a copy of the ‘Flinders, Eyre Peninsula

and Outback 4WD Tracks & Repeater Towers

brochure’ to obtain detailed information of

all the 4WD options for these regions.

Beachport Conservation Park,

Limestone Coast,

Michael Ellem

The Yorke Peninsula region boasts 700

kilometres of coastline and lots of spots

to 4WD. West of Minlaton is Parsons Beach

where access to the beach is only suitable

for four-wheel drive vehicles. From here you

can drive the 20-kilometre stretch to

Minlacowie. Another beach drive for 4WD

only is between Flaherty’s Beach and Point

Turton.

Whatever region you visit, and whatever

your level of experience you can certainly

find some amazing and picturesque ‘off the

beaten track’ experiences in South Australia.

Let's go to the

LIMESTONE COAST

Umpherston Sinkhole, Jubilee Highway East, Mount Gambier, Offroad Images

The Limestone Coast allows visitors to

travel through beautiful coastlines, lush

farmland, spectacular caves, captivating

wilderness and vistas of vineyards.

The Limestone Coast is one of the most diverse regions in

Australia. Rugged, wave beaten coastlines, clear blue waters and

secluded beaches blend brilliantly with lush farming country,

volcanic craters, caves, vistas of vineyards and never-ending

forests. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, you will delight in the

range of activities, such as exploring the many limestone caves,

viewing the fossilised remains of Australia’s Mega Fauna,

uncovering the mystery behind the Blue Lake colour change or

enjoying a 4WD expedition through one of the many stunning

national and conservations parks. The coastal ports also provide a

haven for many water based activities and arguably some of the

best fishing spots in South Australia.

NATIONAL PARKS

Admirals Arch, Flinders

Chase National Park,

SATC

Ethel Beach, Innes

National Park, SATC

Belair National Park, Ben Stevens

Whether you are into four-wheel driving in

Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park or lazy

beach days in Innes National Park, there is

something for everyone to enjoy in one of

over 350 national parks and reserves in

South Australia. To start your South

Australian parks adventure, here are five of

them to add to your bucket list:

Belair National Park

Set in beautiful natural bushland, Belair

National Park is just 25 minutes from

Adelaide city centre. It’s South Australia’s

oldest national park and has woodlands and

lakes to explore via walking and mountain

biking trails. It is home to Old Government

House, a significant heritage building.

Ikara-Flinders Ranges

National Park

Known as Ikara to the Adnyamathanha

people, this ancient and rugged landscape

is one of South Australia’s most iconic

destinations. Visit from April to October

when the temperatures are cooler to make

the most of the extensive bushwalking and

camping experiences.

Flinders Chase

National Park

This park’s coastal scenery includes

Admirals Arch, a beautiful natural rock arch

shaped by the powerful Southern Ocean,

and the sculptured granite boulders known

as Remarkable Rocks. Other attractions

include wild beaches, the unspoilt Rocky

River, vast wilderness areas and cultural

heritage sites – including two lighthouses.

The majority of the park is accessible by

2WD, so it’s perfect for day visits and an

ideal place to view wildlife in its natural

habitat.

Innes National Park

The rugged coast of Innes National Park

offers plenty of white sandy coves nestled

amongst cliffs to explore and is a paradise

for beach-lovers during spring and summer.

Anglers can fish for salmon from the shore

at Browns Beach, or try for mullet, tommy

ruffs, squid or even snook and snapper

from Stenhouse Bay jetty.

Naracoorte Caves

These World Heritage listed caves are one

of the world’s most important fossil sites.

For half a million years the caves acted as

pitfall traps and predator dens, bones

collected – layer upon layer, year after year

– creating a rich fossil record of the ancient

animals. With the caves staying at a

constant 17 degrees centigrade, Naracoorte

Caves is a destination for all seasons. Selfguided,

guided and adventure caving tours

are available year-round.

Book Before You Go

Campsites and vehicle entry must be

booked online prior to arrival. If you prefer

Let's go to the

MURRAY

RIVER, LAKES

& COORONG

Purnong Road, Caurnamont, John Montesi

Come and play outdoors. Whether it’s

paddling or water skiing, cycling or walking,

racing cars or four-wheel-driving… this

region has it all.

Famous for iconic houseboat holidays and paddle steamer history, but

there’s more on offer. The waterways begin in the lower Murray near

Swan Reach. This stretch boasts some of the River’s widest expanses

and most spectacular ochre cliff faces. From here follow the Mighty

Murray Way towards Mannum and Murray Bridge. With large riverfront

recreation areas and restaurants, these towns are perfect for soaking

up river life. Float south towards the Lower Lakes, Murray Mouth and

Coorong – one of the most unique environments in the world – made

famous again by the 2019 film remake of Storm Boy.

Along the way, you’ll go through Tailem Bend, now firmly on the

map thanks to The Bend Motorsport Park. Further south, you’ll

start catching glimpses of Lake’s Albert and Alexandrina, as they

begin to open up to the Coorong National Park. The laid-back town

of Meningie set right on Lake Albert is known for spectacular

sunsets and fresh seafood. On the other side of the Coorong, you

can travel through Lake Alexandrina towns (such as Milang and

Langhorne Creek) on your way to Goolwa, this is where the River

Murray meets the sea.

See detailed map on page 61.

Let's go to the

YORKE PENINSULA

Ethel Beach, Innes National Park, SATC

Lazy days under the beach umbrella.

Cold beers around a sizzling barbecue.

Stunning sunsets over boat-filled bays.

Postcard perfect beaches...

Beginning just 90 minutes from Adelaide, Yorke Peninsula is one of

South Australia’s most relaxed holiday regions, with long secluded

beaches, great fishing, fascinating history and vast expanses of

untouched nature.

If you find relaxing with a fishing line is your idea of heaven, there

are plenty of historic jetties to explore and the two gulfs provide

some of the best catches in the State.

Step back in time and experience the unique history and culture

Yorke Peninsula has to offer. History buffs can learn about the rich

mining and farming heritage through the many museums and

historic walks. Innes National Park is one of the most famous

wildlife havens in the State, with 9200ha of untouched flora and

fauna and some spectacular rugged cliffs. This is where you can

experience bush walking, swimming, surfing, snorkelling, bird

watching, diving and sometimes even whale watching. Yorke

Peninsula is the perfect escape!
