Poverty affects all of us.

It attacks the very fabric of our society.

It erodes self-respect and personal dignity.

It perpetuates the false belief that

human worth is linked to money, looks,

possessions and status.

It divides families and wrecks social

cohesion.

It is at the root of most violence.

It undermines our safety and destroys our

stability.

It ensures that the majority of our people

remain unemployable – unable to pay for

their own and their children’s education.

It cripples our workforce, reducing our

collective productivity.

It discourages foreign investment.

Photo: Jan Tutter / flickr

It destabilises the very foundations of

business: the expansion of a robust

consumer base.

l

Everything is connected.

Everything affects everything else.

Do what is within your power to help the

human beings in your circle of influence

achieve their full potential.

We will all benefit.

empowering source of information helping all South Africans to create better lives

for themselves, their families and their communities.

WHO ARE WE TALKiNG TO?

Our publications and events transcend demographics

and lifestyles because they address communal issues in

a way that can be ‘heard’ by all South Africans. Despite

our differences, we all have a vested interest in the

well-being of our country – if only because our own

well-being is closely tied to it.

Our publications and events encourage understanding

and compassion, and offer suggestions for practical

actions that can be taken by individuals, families,

communities, concerned onlookers, businesses and

policy-makers to improve our shared world.

Even though advertising is the financial engine

that makes our work possible, we are not driven by

advertising revenue, but by a deep commitment to help

eradicate poverty, unemployment and socio-economic

inequality in South Africa.

For detailed information about our audiences in

relation to our products, take a look at Who Are We

Talking To? on the Advertise tab on our site:

v Solutions to economic and social challenges, including: water purification,

alternative energy, solar cooking, hand tools, gardening systems, nutritious food,

nutritional supplements, and life insurance for people living with HIV/AIDS.

v Job placement agencies that work with unskilled labour or people with

disabilities or that offer a bridge between training institutions and the

workplace.

v Affordable and sponsored vocational training, skills development and educational

programmes that are accessible to marginalised people.

exposure AND earn valuable B-BBEE points

All the while advancing transformation in South Africa

1. Enterprise & Supplier Development (ED & SD) Points

As a majority Black-owned, Level 2 B-BBEE Exempt Micro Enterprise with an income below

R1,000,000, South African Conversations qualifies as an ED beneficiary. Contributions to

our business – financial, non-financial, recoverable or non-recoverable – count 125% towards

your Enterprise Development scorecard targets.

Purchases – such as advertising, Resource Directory book orders or magazine subscriptions –

count towards your Supplier Development targets. Your company will earn bonus points

when we transition from being an ED beneficiary to a full Supplier.

2. Preferential Procurement points

In addition to the 125% recognition for Supplier Development, purchases from South

African Conversations qualify for an additional 1.2 multiplier – B-BBEE legislation

designed to encourage engagement with majority Black-owned suppliers and help drive

transformation in South Africa. Example: If you spend R100,000 with us, it is recognised as

R150,000 for your Preferential Procurement score. (R125,000 for the 125% SD recognition plus

R25,000 for the 1.2 multiplier enhancement).

Doing business with South African Conversations leverages B-BBEE legislation in a way that

positively impacts people who seldom benefit from it. While most B-BBEE deals benefit only

the qualifying business, its shareholders and employees, working with us go far beyond

that, directly benefitting marginalised communities:

• 70% of magazine sales income goes to sellers and participating NPOs.

• Up to 75% of advertising revenue from Community Conversations goes directly to the

communities where the conversations take place.

Choosing to work with us is a powerful way to demonstrate your company’s

commitment to both transformation and upliftment on a national scale.

Speak to all of South Africa

While we may have little in common, we all have a vested

interest in the well-being of our country – if only because

our own well-being is closely tied to it.
