write a poem inspired by what they’ve experienced. Children eight 

and older are welcome with adult supervision. A donation of $5

Congrats to El Dorado Hills Community Services 

District for being honored with the 2019 Exceptional Public 

Outreach and Advocacy Award for their demonstration of 

increasing the District’s visibility with the public, legislature, 

and other key stakeholders in the community. 

Ryan Sumida completed his Eagle Scout project, which 

by TARA HARBERT 

consisted of installing a pathway using decomposed granite and 

flagstones and building a bench for Golden Hills School’s 

learning garden in El Dorado Hills. The 13-year-old received 

advice from local landscaper Dick Welch from Ponderosa 

Landscaping and help from more than 25 people. 

[ ARTS & CULTURE ] 

Starting January 14, Blue Line Arts is offering Petite 

Picasso classes. The six-week session is designed for ages 

4-6 to explore their own creativity and imagination using 

different art materials, such as acrylic paint, watercolors, 

printmaking, and more. Each week, from 11 a.m.-noon, the 

class will feature a different themed art project. To register,

From January 16-March 5, the Gallery at 48 Natoma is 

hosting Mid-California Highlights: From the Sierra to

If you’re looking for a filling, 

affordable lunch buffet, I found it at 

Mountain Mike’s Pizza in Folsom! 

The scrumptious smorgasbord 

includes everything pizza dreams 

are made of. For $9.95, you can fill 

your belly to the brim with a buildyour-own 

salad—complete with 

carrots, cucumbers, croutons, 

and every other veggie under the 

sun—then grab as many pizza 

slices as you can stomach. Once 

you’ve reached your limit, seal 

the deal with dessert; which, on 

my visit meant a pizza “cookie” 

and “cinnamon roll” (fresh, 

fluffy dough covered in butter, 

cinnamon, and brown sugar with 

a dusting of mozzarella and powdered sugar). The buffet is available weekdays 

from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and Wednesday nights from 5-8 p.m. And if you have 

your eye on more than just pie, you’re in luck. They make the most heavenly 

garlic-studded sticks topped with melty cheese. We ordered ours to go, but 

they didn’t even make it home; my daughter and I were dipping the fresh-outof-the-oven 

slices in ranch dressing before we left the parking lot. Are you a 

fan of wings? Depending on your preference, pick from plain, buffalo, BBQ, 

honey garlic, or sweet chili. Between the buffet, “crispy, curly pepperoni,” and 

specialty pizzas, the options are endless…and so, so good!
