ABOUT AUTOMOBILITY LA

Formerly referred to as the “Los Angeles Auto Show’s Press Days,” AutoMobility LA

features vehicle debuts, auto-tech exhibits, competitions, speakers and networking

events over the course of four jam-packed days. Held in Los Angeles — the nation’s

top car-buying, luxury and EV market — AutoMobility LA is where the who’s who of

mobility meet to gain insights, break news and do business.

NOTEWORTHY STATS & FIGURES

‣ Despite reports of automakers pulling out of auto shows, the Los Angeles

Auto Show remained a “must attend” event for brands to reach influencers

and buyers in the nation’s top car-buying and EV market.*

‣ AutoMobility LA expanded its roster of participating brands and served as a

global launchpad for new and established automakers including Audi, BMW,

BYTON, Jeep, Porsche, Rivian and Toyota to unveil new vehicles and make

important announcements.

‣ In addition to 66 debut vehicles, AutoMobility LA became a global stage for

more than 20 C-level executives from companies including Amazon Alexa

Automotive, Aston Martin Lagonda, BYTON, Electrify America and Honda

R&D Americas to share industry insights.

‣ AutoMobility LA’s Technology Pavilion featured big data/cloud computing,

connected car services and technologies, infotainment, safety, software and

transportation service/solution providers; it also became the preferred venue

for new automakers to unveil their vehicles.

‣ Approximately 26,500 media and industry professionals from 58 countries

attended AutoMobility LA over the course of four days.

‣ TribalScale’s in-car, AI-driven e-commerce platform received the $40,000

grand prize at “Code AutoMobility LA” — AutoMobility LA’s annual

hackathon, presented by General Motors and Visa and supported by the

City of Los Angeles.

‣ AutoMobility LA’s Top Ten Automotive Startups competition was

presented by Plug and Play Tech Center and SiriusXM Connected Vehicles

with support from Audi and URBAN-X. Thor Trucks, a Los Angeles-based

transportation lab focused on electric solutions for commercial fleets,

received the $15,000 cash prize and top honor at the fifth-annual

competition.

‣ Green Car Journal, Hispanic Motor Press Foundation, Kelley Blue Book,

and NACTOY (North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year Awards)

formally announced their 2019 award winners/finalists at AutoMobility LA.

*JD Power (2018)

NATIONAL MEDIA BUZZ

“The biggest buzzword in the automotive world these days isn't

cars, trucks or autos. It's mobility. Self-driving and electric cars

are just the start. It includes everything from scooters to "smart"

parking meters that can help drivers find empty spaces. At the

Los Angeles Auto Show…the focus is on all the technology not

only being poured into vehicles, but all things that go with them.”

“Los Angeles…is among the most popular U.S. auto shows partly

because Southern California is one of the largest car-buying

markets in the nation. The Los Angeles show also goes beyond

conventional automakers to feature the technology firms that are

influencing the automotive world with new electronics, computer

software and self-driving and electric-power designs.”

“It’s not your imagination: Cars really are becoming more capable.

A walk through the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show reveals new

models in the pipeline that can drive themselves around town, on

the racetrack and even farther afield, using electricity to get there.

Automakers lifted the veil on several next-generation mobility

concepts at the annual show, which opens to the public on Friday.”

“The LA Show has it all from the all-new Porsche 911 sports car

to a Jeep pickup to three-row utes.”

LIFESTYLE MEDIA BUZZ

“Southern California and cars have been inextricably linked for

more than a century. The Los Angeles Auto Show began in 1907,

with 99 cars on display at the local ice-skating rink. Today, it

sprawls across…the Los Angeles Convention Center, boasting the

latest sports cars, SUV’s and electric technology.”

“The cars of the 2018 LA Auto Show handily outnumber the

trucks, but the trucks and SUVs are absolutely the bigger story.

This year's show hosted the debut of one of the most highly

anticipated vehicles of modern times, the Jeep Gladiator, as well

as a pretty compelling take on the all-electric on/off-road

adventure truck (Rivian R1S/R1T).”

“Everywhere you looked, there were SUVs as far as the eye could

see, even in automotive emission-policing California.”

11

AUTOMOTIVE MEDIA BUZZ

“The 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show ended up having a pretty

sweet combination of enticing future tech, good old-fashioned

‘Murican iron and some stuff that was a little bit of both.”

“The L.A. Auto Show generally wows, and the 2018 iteration was no

exception. Startup EV maker Rivian stole the show with an electric truck

and SUV pair, while Porsche debuted the new 911. The Honda Passport

drew immense interest, becoming one of the most-viewed articles in

weeks. And the Jeep Gladiator — the Wrangler pickup that Jeep fans have

been asking for — crawled onto its stage in a dramatic debut.”

“One characteristic that stands out from this year’s show is

variety. From fully electric concept SUVs to Jeep pickup trucks,

there’s something for everyone…Heck, there’s even a seductive

and glamorous Lincoln — yes, we said Lincoln.”

TECH MEDIA BUZZ

“The LA Auto Show 2018 wasn’t lacking in alluring supercars,

concepts, and EVs, but some of the cars stood head and shoulders

above the rest. Whether for their electric ambition, for putting a

fresh spin on a classic, or just for being drop-dead delicious, these

best-of-show models each have something to recommend them.”

“The 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show was a good one, with more new cars,

trucks and SUVs than one could easily shake a stick at. AutoMobility

LA…proved why it's one of the most important auto shows in the

calendar year by bringing out something new to entice just about

everyone who loves cars. Anyone who sets foot in the Los Angeles

Convention Center for the LA Auto Show…will not be disappointed.”

21

“From Audi’s striking new E-tron GT super saloon and BMW’s bold

Vision iNext concept, to the new Kia Soul, a tough new electric offroader

from startup Rivian, and an electric van from VW, the 2018

LA Motor Show had plenty to offer those looking for electric

powertrains over traditional internal combustion engines.”

“The annual Los Angeles Auto Show stands out as one of the most

important dates on the automotive calendar. The 2018 edition of the

event was bigger than usual because it followed an abnormally quiet Paris

show and preceded what’s shaping up to be the smallest Detroit show

ever. Car companies from all over the spectrum consequently chose Los

Angeles to unveil significant production models and futuristic concept

cars.”

12

““Los Angeles is the must-see auto show in the US.

California is the trendsetter for fashion, style,

movies, and cars. LA has a massive multi-ethnic

youth culture. California is the state most

concerned about the environment and traffic jams,

so buyers pay attention to EVs, plug-in hybrids,

and partially (soon fully) autonomous cars.”

““Since Los Angeles is one of the most important new-car

markets in the US, automakers introduced some of their most

important vehicles at AutoMobility LA (see the LA Auto Show)

this week. This meant lots of new crossovers and SUVs, but the

show was also an affirmation of automakers’ commitment to

alternative-fuel vehicles via key green debuts.”

CODE AUTOMOBILITY LA

AutoMobility LA’s Signature Hackathon Presented by General Motors and Visa

“Code AutoMobility LA,” presented by General Motors and Visa, continued its reign as the only hack

hosted by an auto show. This year, a talented group of 140 developers had 28 hours between Nov. 25-26

to develop innovative technology solutions that assist drivers and their passengers get to destinations

safer and smarter, as well as make seamless in-car payments. Teams were given access to key insights and

application-programming interfaces (APIs) from Visa and General Motors to help with their creations.

TribalScale won the grand prize of $40,000 for their in-car, AI-driven e-commerce platform which allows

consumers to purchase items directly from the vehicle for curbside pickup, eliminating parking needs.

Also, Pit Stop placed second and received $30,000 for their machine learning predictive maintenance

solution for ride share drivers; EVHub placed third and received $15,000 for their monthly membership

plan that improves a consumer’s EV charger experience by eliminating the need for multiple apps.

TOP TEN AUTOMOTIVE STARTUPS

AutoMobility LA Startup Competition Presented by Plug and Play Tech Center and SiriusXM Connected Vehicles

Each year, AutoMobility LA selects ten standout startups — based on vision, innovation, perspective and

the likelihood of technology adoption as well as success — with the potential to shape the future of the

automotive industry. Presented by Plug and Play Tech Center and SiriusXM Connected Vehicles, the 2018

Top Ten Automotive Startups Competition grand prize winner received a $15,000 cash award to help

further grow their business. Supporting sponsors included Audi, Porsche Consulting and URBAN-X.

Thor Trucks, this year’s grand prize winner, is a Los Angeles-based mobility lab focused on electric solutions

for commercial fleets. “Outside the glitzy supercars and heavy-duty trucks that get all the headlines, there

are customers…that are excited about the potential of electric vehicles,” said Co-Founder Giordano Sordoni.

The judging panel included experts from Mercedes-Benz R&D North America, Plug and Play Tech Center,

BEETLES & BREAKFAST

A Celebratory Showcase of the Iconic Volkswagen Beetle

Volkswagen chose AutoMobility LA to announce the farewell tour for the iconic Beetle, a U.S. mainstay of

almost 70 years. The commemorative showcase featured nearly 30 Beetles on display — highlighted by

the 2019 Beetle Final Edition models — as well as complimentary food and live entertainment.

Alongside Los Angeles-based owners, Volkswagen collected a number of heritage Beetles dating as far

back as 1946, including (but not limited to) the 1969 Wedding Beetle, 1971 Meyers Manx and Americas

Rallycross-winning Beetle racecar.

“This is a great opportunity to highlight the heritage of the Beetle brand and to introduce the 2019 Beetle

Final Edition coupe and convertible to the media. Los Angeles is a perfect place to celebrate the Beetle

thanks to the long and lasting relationship between Californians and the brand,” said Derrick Hatami,

Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Volkswagen of America.
