OUTAthlete SPOTLIGHT

“Over the past year, The OUT Foundation has provided me with

more than just access to an amazing CrossFit gym and new healthy

knowledge. They’ve helped me tap into personal confidence

that I didn’t know I had! My health journey is something I’ve always

struggled with sticking to and this inclusive community has helped

show me that it can be just as fun as it is challenging. The OUT

Foundation is a family and I couldn’t be more thankful!”

-Chloe Ramjohn, OUTAthlete Class of 2019

“CrossFit Rise has always been an inclusive facility, and we

couldn’t be more excited to have the opportunity to show our support

of the LGBTQ+ community through the OUTAthlete Program. Coming

alongside of our OUTAthlete, Chloe, to provide her the community

and fitness foundation she needs is something very special to us. We

have loved working with The OUT Foundation and look forward

to the endless possibilities of such a wonderful partnership.”

Ongoing PROGRAMS

Quarterly Surgery Education Class

This class is offered to vaginoplasty patients

and their caregivers at NYU Langone Health

who get to learn about the procedure itself

and what to expect pre and post surgery.

The class has been sponsored by The OUT

Foundation since its inception in 2018.

The class is broken into different topics

from mental health to surgical summaries

presented by the medical team. The OUT

Foundation does it’s part on stage as

well, demonstrating exercises on building

strength pre surgery and natural habits to

expedite the healing process.

Beyond Binary Care

An annual medical school education

presentation organized by The OUT Foundation

and led by the Plastic Surgery Club at NYU

Langone Health. This 3-hour presentation

discusses trans healthcare from both a

medical and surgical view, including accessing

care as a patient. The most special part of

this presentation is the patient panel that is

comprised of transgender men and women

and non-binary individuals. Each participant

brings their own unique experiences that are

instrumental to the future physicians leaning in

and learning.

The OUTHealth program supports our mission by removing the barriers that block

the LGBTQ+ community from living as their true authentic selves.

We provide health services to the LGBTQ+ community by partnering with NYU’s

Comprehensive Team of Healthcare Professionals. We work with underprivileged

patients to navigate New York State Medicaid requirements and develop post-op

care including complimentary fitness classes for newly transitioned patients and

workshops that ultimately can improve the wellness of all who participate.

We want to provide the ability for our trans siblings to be comfortable in their bodies,

experience movement in their bodies and ultimately celebrate their bodies.

New Workshop in 2020

Sex Education Class

This workshop is for transgender women who are pre or post vaginoplasty and

want more information with respect to discovering their new bodies, safe sex tips

(including HIV/STI prevention) and want a unique approach to aligning the mind during

a sexual experience.

In this specialized workshop, our Sex Professional guides participants through 30

minutes of techniques that can be used during intercourse or for self-pleasure. We seek

to untangle the complexities that come with the integration of the mind and body.

This workshop is scheduled to take place in the early Spring with Babeland as a

sponsor. Babeland offers top quality products, a pleasant place to shop, and most of all

information and encouragement to people who want to explore their sexuality.

Workshop SPOTLIGHT

Post Top Surgery Self Care Workshop

This workshop geared towards the transgender community is for those

pre or post top surgery. This workshop includes a 90-minute session of a fascia

release technique and a presentation by a team of gender affirming healthcare

professionals. In collaboration with Alexes Hazen, MD, Brooklyn Strength, Callen-

Lorde and HealthyTrans. Sponsored by Bada Bean Bada Boom, lululemon, NOOMA,

Mike’s Recovery and Pizza Loves Emily.

“CrossFit gave me motivation and direction to

make myself the best and strongest person

I can be. OutWOD has given me a sense of

pride with the strength I’ve gained through

CrossFit and so much joy in my identity as a

lesbian among fellow LGBTQ+ CrossFitters.

I’ve always felt at home every time I join an

OUTWOD event.”

Genesis Fermin, OUTWOD Athlete

“It is truly an honor to be able to host an

OUTWOD. It is an opportunity for our gym to

come together and celebrate our LBGTQ+

community. We are an all-inclusive gym and all

of our members are in support. We have a big

LGBTQ+ community as well as a very large

group of allies. What OUTWOD is doing for

LGBTQ+ young people through its OUTAthlete

Program is incredible and we as a community are

more than happy to support and represent.”

Jessica Estrada, Co-Owner of CrossFit Jaakarhu

in Austin, TX

OUTWOD is The OUT Foundation’s largest international initiative for bringing together LGBTQ+

We celebrated our 6th Annual OUTWOD Showdown

at BRICK Los Angeles, raising over $15,000.00 for the

OUTAthlete Program. 2019 marked our first year to include

a Teen Division in our competition. BRICK Los Angeles has

been our host every year with over 20 CrossFit affiliates

represented across 3 Divisions of competitors!

“The idea of the OUTWOD Showdown was born from the mindset

that everybody and every body is an athlete. The Showdown is a

welcoming (and friendly competitive) arena to show your pride and

athletic prowess no matter your age, skill level, or gender identity.”

- Will Lanier, Founder + Executive Director

23

In June, to celebrate World Pride in

NYC we gathered over 200 like-minded

athletes and individuals at Lululemon’s

Hub Seventeen. 8 performers shook

their stuff to raise $10,000 dollars in a

night that was not to be missed.

This was the 2nd Annual OUTWOD Drag

Show and it has set the tone for 2020

shows in NYC and, for the first time, Los

Angeles.

Organized and executed by the hosts of

OUTCast Podcast, the show included

a cast of gay men, straight allies, and

women -- exploring gender expression,

strength and beauty -- together.

25

In August of 2019, we launched our new initiative, the first and

only all-inclusive Big Gay Field Day for the LGBTQ+ community

and our allies. Teams of 4 participated in 12 fun and hilarious

events with like Giant Jenga, Tug-of-war, “Wreck Your Ex” Pyramid

Toss, “Honey I Blew Up the Beer Pong” and more!

- Will Lanier, Founder + Executive Director

27

“2019 marked our first ever visit to The

CrossFit Games in Madison, WI and

boy did we make a splash! We partnered

with a local LGBTQ+ bar, Prism, to host

Big Gay Happy Hour to kick off the

weekend. Our Gay Agenda continued with

4 hours of workouts under the jumbotron

on-site at the Games. We then partnered

with local affiliate, CrossFit Recursive, to

finish the weekend off with our signature

OUTWOD workout, drawing athletes

from across the world to celebrate pride

and diversity in fitness!”

- Will Lanier, Founder + Executive Director

OUR IM

PACT

In early 2019, we launched our transgender education townhall tour called “Don’t Be

An A**hole.” We addressed the many issues that transgender athletes face in fitness

and fitness facilities and how business owners, coaches and instructors, and fellow

athletes and classmates can be strong allies to our trans siblings. The committee

included transgender athletes and gym owners and inclusion training professionals.

We visited 13 cities across the United States and talked with over 300 participants all

dedicated to making an impact in their communities.

“Zen Planner was the first employer I ever worked for that empowered and nurtured

the LQBTQ+ community in the workplace. I love that I work for a company that

represents me authentically and celebrates my participation and success to our

overarching objective of making the world a healthier, happier place . The relationship

between Zen Planner and OUT Foundation is so harmonious. We believe that

celebrating diversity and being inclusive of all athletes and people is what allows us to

understand and grow with each other.

This summer we worked together at the CrossFit games to host an OUTWOD event

for spectators. The outpouring of support and enthusiasm for the event was truly

heartwarming. I love to see my community represented on such a large stage by

one of the largest fitness organizations in the world.

Zen Planner’s in-office Diversity and Inclusion committee organizes events to educate,

feature, and honor all the things that make us unique. We received so much positive

feedback and success with these events that our sister companies across the US

adopted similar committees in their offices. At Zen Planner, we are proud to be in

partnerships with the OUT Foundation and are excited to be changing the world

together, one gym at a time.”

“2019 will be a year of sustenance and growth…” is what I predicted at

the close of 2018. And as I look back at the past year, it truly surpassed all

expectations.

Sustenance because our sponsors and individual donors stepped up to

support us in numbers we’ve never seen before, allowing us to continue to

expand our work.

Growth because we held more events than ever before, helped bring fitness

to the greatest number of young athletes yet, and expanded our work to

parts of health and wellness I never dreamed possible.

At The OUT Foundation, we work every day to try to make it just a tiny bit

easier for people to feel comfortable being who they are through our work to

make health, wellness, and fitness accessible and inclusive for all. And we

can’t do that without you.

THANK YOU for inspiring our work and supporting us on this journey.

What will 2020 bring? Well, if the past few years are any indication, our passion

for this work and the support of our community means the sky is the limit!

Love,

Will
