YOUNG AVA Henderson took another<br />
giant step forward in her very promising<br />
surfing career at the weekend (see page 1).<br />
The 14-year-old won the national<br />
women’s open title at St Clair, an amazing<br />
feat given her age.<br />
Ava was in red-hot form on Saturday, which was finals day,<br />
also winning the under-18s just hours before taking out the open<br />
title.<br />
In fact it was a great day all round for surfers from the <strong>Bay</strong><br />
<strong>Harbour</strong> News area.<br />
Ava’s mother, Donna, won the women’s over-40s title and was<br />
runner-up in the women’s longboard; Amelie Wink, also 14, won<br />
the women’s stand-up paddleboard, beating Lucy Te Moananui,<br />
and Ambrose McNeill won the men’s longboard.<br />
