This year marks the 50th edition of Curaçao’s Carnival and it means that we are
going all out with the festivities. Carnival is the most festive season here on the
island. Our Carnival parades are colorful, creative and above all they are a big party,
accompanied by some very good rhythms and sounds. Either as a spectator on the
sideways or as a participant in one of the Carnival groups, it’s guaranteed that you
will have a great time during Curaçao’s Carnival.

Every year, immediately after the final parade, which is the Farewell Parade,
preparations will start for the following year. As we are celebrating 50 years in
2020, this means an even bigger and more intense preparation. During the Carnival
parades the streets of Sta. Maria, Palu Blanku, Marchena, Wishi and Otrobanda
are overflowing with happy people, music, food and “hopi ambiente”. The Carnival
groups translate their creativity in glorious costumes and are each very excited
to share their creations with the world. The theme or creation for the year are all
meticulously chosen by the group owners and their teams. Some of the larger
groups to look out for during the main parade are: Estreno Mas Pikete, Viva E Grupo,
Hatts off to Dreams, Bliss, Vise Vèrsa, A Lo Loco and Dushi Aventura. Regardless of
the group size we encourage you to cheer for each and every group and individual
that’s participating in this big celebration. Aside from their beautiful costumes
and road pieces, each group is accompanied by either a DJ and/or a local band
as entertainment during the parade. As an unwritten rule and tradition, you will be
hearing the rhythms of Tumba and Roadfire for the most part of the parades.
Este año se celebra la 50ª edición del carnaval de Curaçao y significa que vamos a
celebrar en grande durante todas las festividades. El carnaval es la temporada más
festiva aquí en la isla. Nuestros desfiles de carnaval son coloridos, creativos y, sobre
todo, son una gran fiesta, acompañados de muy buenos ritmos y sonidos. Ya sea
como espectador de lado o como participante en uno de los grupos de carnaval,
puedes estar garantizado que lo pasarás en grande durante el Carnaval de Curaçao.
ARTS & CULTURE
Todos los años, inmediatamente después del desfile final, que es el Desfile de
Despedida, comenzarán los preparativos para el año siguiente. Como estamos
celebrando 50 años en 2020, esto significa una preparación aún más grande e
intensa. Los desfiles por las calles de Sta. Maria, Palu Blanku, Marchena, Wishi
y Otrobanda estarán llenos de gente feliz, música, comida y “hopi ambiente”.
Los grupos de carnaval traducen su creatividad en trajes gloriosos y están muy
emocionados de compartir sus creaciones con el mundo. El tema o la creación
del año son elegidos meticulosamente por los dueños del grupo y sus equipos.
Algunos de los grupos más grandes a tener en cuenta durante el desfile principal
son: Estreno Mas Pikete, Viva E Grupo, Hatts off Dreams, Bliss, Vise Vèrsa, A Lo
Loco y Dushi Aventura. Independientemente del tamaño del grupo, te alentamos
a animar a todos y cada uno de los grupos e individuos que participan en esta
gran celebración. Además de sus hermosos trajes y piezas de carretera, cada grupo
está acompañado por un DJ y/o una banda local como entretenimiento durante
el desfile. Como tradición y regla no escrita, escucharás los ritmos de Tumba y
Roadfire durante la mayor parte de los desfiles.
