News from your Shropshire CouncillorClaire WildHAVE YOU GOT YOUR SMART WATER?During the summer of 2019 Atcham & Berrington Parish Councils received apresentation giving details of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s initiative to offer subsidisedSmartWater © property marking kits to parish councils.The scheme offered the kits to parish councils at a substantially reduced cost. Additionally if the council tookup the scheme and offered the kits to all residents free of charge and over 70% of residents registered totake part in the scheme then a package of additional measures would be provided. The additional measuresincluded the erection of signs at key locations which indicate that the scheme is in place. Criminals enteringthe parish will then know that the vast majority of households in the area have been supplied with these kitsand therefore may consider going elsewhere rather than stealing valuables which are easily traced.There was unanimous support for this project from councillors and residents and, if you haven’t alreadydone so, you can now collect and register YOUR FREE SMARTWATER © PROPERTY MARKING KIT. If you wouldlike more information on SmartWater © please visit www.smartwater.comMany communities within Shropshire and elsewhere have already taken up this scheme and are reportingreductions in the number of burglaries, some as much as by 80%. There have already been a number ofsuccesses locally with property being returned following a burglary thanks to the valuables being markedwith SmartWater © .
