LOST CREEK HOMEOWNERS

Welcome to the February 2020 issue of Lost Creek’s newsletter. Please

keep this free newsletter coming by supporting the advertisers in this

publication.

NOTICE - BOARD OF DIRECTOR ELECTIONS

There are two (2) seats on the Lost Creek Board of Directors that are up

for election at the Annual Homeowners meeting which will be held in

February 2020. All Lost Creek homeowners were mailed meeting and

election information in January.

PLEASE REGISTER ON THE NEW CREST

MANAGEMENT WEBSITE

IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO THIS BEFORE THE ANNUAL

MEETING IN FEBRUARY

Crest Management has totally revised their website so you will have to:

1. Go to www.crest-management.com and click on the Homeowner

Login Box. Due to the security and privacy of their previous website,

passwords were not transferred.

2. This means if you haven’t already, you will need to reset your password.

You can do this by visiting www.crest-management.com/login and select

Forgot Password.

3. Whether you’re a Homeowner or Board Member, logging in is the key

to accessing your account!

4. Once logged in, you will have a new dashboard that will be your onestop-shop

to meeting all your needs easily and efficiently.

5. If you don’t register, you won’t receive email notices, be able to

download forms, look at board meeting agendas, see meeting minutes,

review your account or view other important information.

If you have a problem registering or don’t have your account number,

call Christopher Sharp or Matthew Caskey at Crest Management. They

will walk you through it. Don’t rely on social media websites for your

information regarding Lost Creek, it could actually be misleading.

Contact Crest Management instead. How about it folks … get on board,

be informed and stay informed.

LOST CREEK CLUBHOUSE

The last permit we needed was from the Fort Bend County Fire Marshal.

He required us to change our design so that a fire truck can be parked

no more than 150 feet from the clubhouse. We will be putting in a paved

fire lane so that we meet this requirement. Unfortunately, the permitting

process has taken an extraordinarily long time. Each time we were

directed to comply with a requirement, all drawings and documentation

had to be redone and resubmitted to all of the other permitting agencies.

It has been a frustrating process. The BOD is looking for homeowners

who are interested in being on the Clubhouse Committee.

OLD FENCES -

WARPED, BROKEN OR DETERIORATING

As you all know, many of the fences in our community are almost 14

years old by now. All residents should consider repairing, rebuilding and/

or replacing at least the portions facing the street. This will make it safer

for residents and pets, enhance our neighborhood and keep our home

values up. Please keep in mind that replacing any fence between you and

a neighbor necessitates that you work with your neighbor to come to a

mutual agreement on sharing the cost. If your neighbor does not want

to cost-share, then you can do the replacement on your own. In any case,

fence replacement requires you to submit an Architectural Request.

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT AN

ARCHITECTURAL REQUEST

If you are planning a project involves constructing something anywhere

in your yard, first call 811 to have someone from the utilities come out

and determine where pipes and wires are in the ground. Also check your

“plat of survey” to determine if there are any easements on your property

that limit where and what you can construct. Please keep in mind that, if

4

February 2020 | Lost Creek

you build over pipes or wires and there is a problem, you may be forced to

dig up or take down whatever you built. Be aware that some easements

are actually overhead.

QUESTIONS, COMPLAINTS,

ISSUES OR SUGGESTIONS

If you have one, please contact our property manager or assistant

property manager at Crest Management. Their phone numbers and

e-mail addresses are indicated below. Please do not just put something

on the NextDoor or Facebook media websites hoping someone will take

care of it. Our management company does not monitor these websites.

NATIONAL BLACK HISTORY MONTH

February is National Black History Month, also known as National

African American History Month, a time for all Americans to celebrate

the achievements of African Americans and recognize their central role

in American history.

Other countries, including Canada and Great Britain, have also set aside

months to honor black history. The month of February was chosen to

coincide with the birthdays of President Abraham Lincoln and noted civil

rights advocate Frederick Douglass. The first record of Africans arriving in

North America is dated 1619, when a privateer ship carrying “twenty and

odd” Africans landed at Point Comfort, Virginia, which is now modernday

Hampton, Virginia. The Africans were traded as slaves in exchange

for provisions.

African-American’s impact our society throughout history and in

numerous ways. Here are just a few prominent individuals we honor this

month:

• Thurgood Marshall was the first African-American appointed to the

Supreme Court. We recognize Thurgood Marshall every year on National

Maryland Day.

• George Washington Carver developed over 300 products from peanuts.

Celebrate George Washington Carver and his contributions to the peanut

industry on National Peanut Day.

• Shirley Chisholm was the first African-American woman elected to U.S.

House of Representatives.

• Rosa Parks helped initiate the Civil Rights Movement by refusing to give

up her seat on the bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Celebrate Rosa Park on

Rosa Parks Day and learn more about her contributions to the Civil Rights

Movement.

• Louis Armstrong is widely known as a jazz pioneer. Information about

Louis Armstrong can be found in November on National Louisiana Day.

• Colin Powell is a 4-star General who became Secretary of State. Colin

Powell dedicated the Buffalo Soldier monument at Fort Leavenworth,

Kansas, establishing the first Buffalo Soldiers Day.

• Barack Obama was elected the first Black President of the United

States.

Black History Month was created by twentieth-century historian

Carter Woodson, who believed black Americans were not adequately

represented in the study of American history. Carter Woodson hoped

for the day when black history would be accepted as a part of American

history. Formerly known as Negro History Week, Black History Month was

officially declared by President Gerald Ford in 1976.

NATIONAL HEART MONTH

February focuses on the heart making it National Heart Month. Anyone

can be at risk for heart disease. More and more, our sedentary lifestyles

are putting us at risk at a younger age. Obesity, high blood pressure and

smoking all increase our risk factors.

Each one of those we can take action to lower our risk. Get moving.

Remove stress. Quit smoking. Eat healthier.

Even small changes help make a difference. Reduce the amount of fast

food. Eat more greens. Take the stairs. Walk the kids to school. Go outside

and play with the kids or walk the dog.

Talk to your physician about your risk factors. Walking is one of the

healthiest and safest activities we can do for ourselves. Learn more at

www.cdc.gov and use #NationalHeartMonth to share on social media.

NATIONAL HOT BREAKFAST MONTH

February is a cold month for most of us, so what better way to start our

days than with a steaming hot breakfast? National Hot Breakfast Month

is celebrated every February to encourage everyone to set aside some

extra time every morning to a make hot, fresh breakfast.

You know what they say about breakfast… It’s the most important

meal of the day! However, in the busyness of everyday life, it’s easy to

put breakfast on the back burner and just grab a quick granola bar on

your way out the door in the morning. This month, we are challenged

to wake up a little earlier and take the time to really enjoy breakfast. You

may be surprised at how much better you feel throughout the day when

you allow yourself plenty of time in the morning to fully wake up, make

breakfast, maybe listen to your favorite podcast as you get ready for the

day. Appreciating the beauty that the morning brings and enjoying a hot

breakfast will surely make you feel more full, more energized and just

overall better all day long!

Use #NationalHotBreakfastMonth or #HotBreakfastMonth to post

pictures, recipes and other inspiration for your friends! Here are a few

ideas for healthy, hot breakfasts you can whip up this month. Hopefully,

you can get into a routine and continue making tasty, hot breakfasts

throughout the rest of the year! (Remember, you can do a TON of

variations of these ideas based on your preference.)

• Hot toast with peanut/almond/cashew butter, bananas sliced up and

chia seeds sprinkled over the top

• Berry smoothie. Throw your favorite berries, half a banana, some cashew

or coconut milk into a blender for a few minutes for a delicious, refreshing

side to your hot meal. (Smoothies obviously aren’t a hot breakfast, but

they go great on the side.)

• Oatmeal with fried egg(s) over the top

• Avocado spread over toast with a fried or poached egg on top

• Overnight egg bakes for much less work to do in the morning

• Egg breakfast muffins (basically mini quiche without the breaded crust

for a healthy version)

• Sweet potato and black bean stuffed breakfast burrito

Lighter Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo

Ingredients:

2 large boneless skinless chicken breasts

2 cups low-sodium chicken broth

4 cloves garlic, minced

ground black pepper to taste

2 cups heavy cream

2 egg yolks

salt to taste

1 pound fettuccine

1 sprig chopped fresh parsley

2 cups freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, divided

Directions: Combine chicken breasts and chicken broth in a saucepan

over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat to low;

simmer for 5 minutes. Turn breasts, cover and simmer another 5 minutes.

Remove from heat and let sit with the cover on for 15 minutes.

Remove chicken breasts from the broth and set aside to cool, reserving

the broth in the saucepan. Once the chicken is cool enough to handle,

cut into bite-size slices. Return the chicken broth to medium heat and

cook until reduced to 1 cup. Stir garlic, black pepper and heavy cream

into the reduced broth; bring to a simmer and remove from heat.

Whisk egg yolks in a bowl until smooth. Beat 1 tablespoon of the warm

cream mixture into the eggs until thoroughly incorporated; repeat until

about 1/2 cup of the warm cream mixture is used. Whisk the warm cream

and egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining cream

mixture. Cook over medium-low heat, whisking constantly, until the

mixture almost comes to a simmer and thickens, about 5 minutes. Season

with salt and black pepper to taste.

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook fettuccine in

boiling water, stirring occasionally, until nearly cooked through, about

7 minutes. Drain.

Stir parsley, 1 cup of Parmigiano-Reggiano and cream mixture into the

pasta. Remove from heat, cover and let sit for a few minutes until thick.

Fold chicken and 1 cup Parmigiano-Reggiano into the pasta mixture to

serve.
