Lucien Bernard
to share its brandy
expertise at Vinexpo
Few brandy producers can
match Lucien Bernard in
terms of history or output.
Described as Europe's largest brandy
producer and the world's secondbiggest,
the company was founded
more than 90 years ago in Bordeaux
and remains family owned and run.
Lucien Bernard uses a diversity of
grapes and ageing and distillation
methods to create what is described
as an almost infinite variety of tastes.
China's growing middle class, who
enjoy aged Western wine spirits,
and American consumers, who are
increasingly keen on crafted spirits,
are two of the key groups taking to the
company's brandy with enthusiasm.
Meanwhile, mixologists are returning
to the use of brandy to produce classic
cocktails, with the likes of Sazerac and
Mint Julep originally brandy based.
Connoisseurs seeking unique
premium spirits are also said to be
spurring demand.
At Vinexpo Paris, a team from Lucien
Bernard will hold a masterclass
Wednesday 12 February (10am -
10.45am, Pav 7.2, Be Spirits room,
by registration only) where they will
discuss the product and market
trends with professionals from the
spirits industry. Attendees will get the
chance to taste a number of brandies,
including some award winners

The single estate cognac
producer Domaines Francis
Abécassis is present at
Vinexpo Paris having won
"producer of the year",
"world's best Cognac" and
"Best XO" awards.
Reflecting the quality of its
production, the "Producer of
the Year" award came at the
International Wine and Spirit
Competition (IWSC) in London
2019. Meanwhile, the ABK6 XO
Renaissance cognac secured
medals for World's Best Cognac
and Best XO at the World Cognac
Awards in 2019, among other
awards.
There are four cognac brands,
Leyrat, Riviseur, Grand Domaines
and ABK6, which is a play on the
family name and the signature
cognac. Domaines Francis
Abécassis also produces Ekiss
vodka. ABK6 is the signature
product, for which the cellar
master has chosen the oldest and
most emblematic eaux de vie from
their estates.
ABK6, which is available in more
than 30 countries, is described
as "aromatic and intense" with a
lightness of aroma. It is presented
in a slender bottle with square
shoulders in order, the company
says, to affirm its modernity, while
respecting the tradition of the
cognac.
ABK6 XO Renaissance is an old
gold mahogany in colour and has a
rich aroma of soft spices, liquorice,
orange peel and dried figs. The
"exceptional, well-balanced taste"
is a combination of flavours,
including hazelnut, walnut, cedar
wood and candied fruits
