President’s <strong>Report</strong><br />

<strong>2019</strong> has been a very busy year.<br />

This summer the Museum received some very significant collections. This indicative of the trust that<br />

is building with those wishing to place their memories somewhere and we<br />

are carefully following our collection management policy.<br />

We encourage you to keep an eye on our Facebook page, there have been some amazing photos from<br />

these collections posted.<br />

The heritage committee continues to work with the architect and the Squamish-Lillooet Regional<br />

District to determine the necessary work required at the Bralorne Pioneer Mines Office Building to<br />

move the museum into that building. Additionally, thanks to our grantwriter, several significant<br />

project proposals have been submitted to pay for the renovations and other structural repairs.<br />

A big thank you goes to our dedicated staff, who are not only working through the collection<br />

management project but also engage and share our unique history with visitors.<br />

Operations and Staff<br />

• Operating at the temporary museum – 3767 Lillooet- Pioneer Rd. 40<br />

• Part time year round staff – 6 hours per week. 46 weeks per year<br />

• Summer staff – weekends – 18 hours per week – May long weekend – Thanksgiving<br />

• Summer Supervisor – 6 hours/month – May to September<br />

• Third full season using the Management Agreement between the Bralorne Pioneer Museum and BRVCA.<br />

• Opened 4 days per week May to October, with additional hours for Collection Management in the summer.<br />

• Accessed funding from Canada Summer Jobs which allowed us to hire summer staff<br />

• Staff trained in First Aid and Superhost<br />

• 3 Member updates over 2018<br />

• Maintained Facebook page<br />

• Maintained an Instagram account<br />

• Provided monthly submissions to the Mountain Telegraph<br />

• Continued a Do You Know series on social media<br />

• Professionally produced advertising and related marketing materials<br />

Visitor Services<br />

• 650 recorded visitors from May to October <strong>2019</strong>.<br />

• This is a growth from 2018 of 25%<br />

• Delivery of “Did you know” script for staff and<br />

volunteers for visitors. Response has been great!<br />

• Coffee, tea, water and other snacks are now available at<br />

the Museum thanks to donations of a fridge and a coffee<br />

maker.<br />

Retail Sales<br />

• Increased retail sales in Museum with a number of books, soaps and maps.<br />

• <strong>2019</strong> Revenue was $2222 with Bridge River Gold sale and $760 other sales. This is a 21% increase in<br />

gross sales from 2018.<br />

• Sales continue online through the store using credit cards or paypal and at the Museum using square.<br />

• Completed two on-line fundraising drives – Giving Tuesday (December 2018) and Win $10,000 (June<br />

<strong>2019</strong>)<br />

• Through the two drives and other donations we have achieved our fundraising goal for <strong>2019</strong>.<br />

• Supporting and advising the relocation planning of the Bralorne Pioneer Museum into the Bralorne Pioneer<br />

Mines Office.<br />

Donations<br />

$1,714 - Walk In donations. Museum visitors are very generous and are a vital part of the museum.<br />

$ 915 - Donations with memberships (unusual year)<br />

$ 900 - Fundraiser<br />

$2,416 - Regular Donations – of those 26 donations through Canada Helps from 24 donors totalling $2260<br />

While the Museum under-achieved its budget of $7000 for <strong>2019</strong> by about $1000, this was made up by increased<br />

membership sales and retail sales.<br />

Collection Management Project<br />

This year the Museum has received some very signification collections which is indicative of the trust<br />

that is building with those wishing to place their memories somewhere.<br />

Collections received include:<br />

Gronskei Family trophies, documents, photos<br />

Ernie Schiel Photograph Collection (x12 photos of his family in Bralorne 1950’s)<br />

Louis Green Documents (of The Great Years)<br />

Ann Buchanan, Curling Trophy<br />

Wendy Williams, donation of tape recordings of father Jack Muir recalling stories of Bralorne<br />

Mr. Jim O'Keeffe's family photos<br />

George Cooper Drabble family photos, from Saskatchewan and Seattle<br />

Randy Brown family photos from Kelowna<br />

All of these families donated so many photos from the 1920’s, some more than 50. They included maps,<br />

personal letters and books also.<br />

During the annual Bralorne Reunion visit to the museum complete audio videos were obtained from<br />

previous Bralorne residents.<br />

Efforts this year were to make the best use of the archival storage<br />

boxes and an additional 3 boxes were created.<br />

The overall catalogues items increased 65.18%<br />

Since last reported we now have a total of 6041 items<br />

cataloged. From December of 2018 the total was 3189 that’s an<br />

increase for <strong>2019</strong> or 2852 or to be exact and increase of 42%.<br />

Collection Management Policy was updated this year and is being<br />

carefully followed.<br />

The Deaccession Committee met in late summer and<br />

recommendations are being actioned.<br />

Revenue<br />

• Gross revenue for the Bridge River Gold book was $2222 and over 2018 and <strong>2019</strong> the cost of printing<br />

the books was covered so all sales going forward are straight revenue to the Museum. This was 21%<br />

over what was budgeted for <strong>2019</strong>.<br />

• Other sales such as t-shirts, other books etc was $760.65 which was a significant improvement over<br />

2018 with sales of $420.<br />

• Increase revenue through various means is a strategic goal for the Museum in order to increase its<br />

overall income.<br />

1. DESCRIPTION OF OPERATIONS<br />

Bralorne-Pioneer Museum Society (the "society") is incorporated provincially under the<br />

laws of the province of British Columbia on November 4, 1977. Its main activity is the<br />

operation of a museum.<br />
