About Orpheus Academy
Welcome to Orpheus Academy, a scholarship-based
summer immersion program for young musicians
ages 15-25. The academy is a unique place in the
Pacific Northwest - a place where internationally
acclaimed artists/teachers work side by side with
young musicians offering them training and guidance
in a rich and growth-inducing environment.
The goals of the academy are:
• Artistic self-discovery and discipline
• Development of artistic identity, personality
and artistic insight
• Development of individual artistic skills as a
soloist and ensemble musician
• Kindling personal artistic vision, commitment,
enthusiasm and zeal for the art
of music
• Learning and developing appreciation of
new literature
• Intelligent pursuit of excellence in music
performance
• Overall, developing a healthy self-identity
as an artist vis-a-vis fellow musicians and
the community at large
Academy Offerings
The Academy will be in session from June 22 to
July 14, 2020. Its activity schedule coincides with
Oregon Music Festival and consists of two segments,
each culminating with a concert. Over
the three-week period OA will offer a variety of
activities including orchestral training; masterclasses
for strings, woodwinds and percussion; concerts
and recitals; group and private instruction; and
chamber music. All attendees are also enrolled in
the academy orchestra.
Academy attendance is free and is scholarship-based.
The sole criterion for acceptance is
merit. The academy will offer $70,000 in tuition-remission
scholarships or some thirty-five $2,000-scholarships:
twenty-two in the string area, twelve for
winds and one for percussion.
Masterclasses will be offered for the following
instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, violin,
viola, cello and percussion. These will be taught by
resident artists/teachers. All attendees of the Academy
will also receive a festival pass allowing them
and their family free access to all but the opening
festival gala event.
