EXPERT OPINION
ABOUT JUVENILE SPORTS
“
“A sedentary lifestyle and computer toys blur the consciousness,
psychic setup of the child who is a future athlete. What can one
invent? The basis of everything lies in upbringing, in parents.
There is one more problem: children hold gadgets 15–20 cm
from their eyes, but then their eyes are not for sports, there is no
necessary concentration. Gadgets can be used when the child
is already practically formed, not earlier than he is 12-14 years
old. And after all, the school curriculum is based on computers,
which does not make the situation easier. ”
Sh. A. Tarpishchev, member of the IOC, president of the
Russian Tennis Federation on the problems of growingyouth.
(https://rsport.ria.ru “Children’s sports should be a priority.”)
“
“
“These are not only goals, points, seconds and future champions, but
also the prevention of smoking, alcoholism, drug addiction, the ability to
return children from the virtual world to reality, to the “peccant” earth. This
is building a success, this is economics. We know for sure that one ruble
invested in the physical development of a child gives a three-fold effect
in healthcare. There is scientific evidence that a child who systematically
plays sports from preschool age, by the age of 12, develops immunity to
stimulants. And this should be a priority in the activities of the state. ”
V. A. Fetisov , First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee
on Physical Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs, two-time
Olympic ice hockey champion talking on the priority of children’s
sports. (http://portal-kultura.ru)
“Sport is a very fair thing. Either you can, or you cannot. And if you can’t, you
have to understand how to change yourself so that you could. People realize
this since their childhood. Realize and learn. And if we speak about ballet
classes? Music? Or any sports? All this requires a full dedication, teaches the
child to work. You can’t slip through. You can’t be fooled. And if they start to
favour you and tell you how beautiful you are, and you are clumsy or have
fallen three times, and they tell you that everything is wonderful, this does
not work. You mustn’t lie to children. They should understand that if you talk
about their shortcomings, you are still interested in them. ”
Skating talking on professional sport for children. (https://tass.ru)
the figure skating department was
opened.
The school trains athletes in 4 sports:
• basketball – 628 people,
• swimming – 78 people,
• modern pentathlon – 89 people,
• figure skating – 288 people.
In accordance with the Charter of the
school, the structural unit of the institution
is a sports school with beginners’
groups and main training groups. Athletes
of the sports school are part of the
national teams of the city of Moscow. The
number of athletes undergoing sports
training at the sports school is 1038.
Athletes who achieve high results and
are in need of accommodation have the
opportunity to live in the school round
the clock. They are provided with adequate
nutrition of five meals a day and
modern rehabilitation facilities, necessary
equipment and apparatus.
The school has a medical center that
carries out current medical examinations
and organizes a full medical screening at
least 2 times a year.
Systematic methodological work is
held to develop training programs for
different sports in accordance with modern
requirements and federal standards.
Methodologists attend training sessions,
go to competitions, take part in the selection
of athletes and recruit groups,
monitor the passing of a medical examination,
prepare the necessary documentation
for the winter and summer recreation
campaigns, training camps and
competitions.
Today, the school basketball department
has become the most massive,
with about 650 people engaged in all
age groups. Teams, mostly women’s,
participate in the championships of
Russia and Moscow, as well as international
competitions of various levels.
About 250 people are trained at the
figure skating department. New generations
of skaters are brought up by
the honored coaches of Russia Irina
Vladimirovna Zhuk, Alexander Vladimirovich
Svinin, Olympic champions Artur
Valerievich Dmitriev, Alexander Gennadevich
Zaitsev. Today 140 athletes are
training in the swimming department,
40 people are engaged in modern pentathlon.
SPORTS IN PERSON
ANATOLY STAROSTIN:
“HURDLE RACE IN PENTATHLON IS
THE MOST UNPREDICTABLE PART,
SWIMMING IS A PRIORITY”
REFERENCE OF THE “OLYMPIC RESERVE”:
Anatoly Starostin is a two-time Olympic champion,
five-time world champion in modern pentathlon,
the first Soviet Olympic champion in modern
pentathlon in the individual championship
(Moscow-80). Director of the Secondary Olympic
Reserve School “Severnaya”.
Modern pentathlon includes 5 disciplines:
fencing, swimming, hurdle race,
combined – running (athletics) plus pistol
shooting.
There are 3 departments in the Severnaya
School: modern pentathlon, archery
and swimming. In total, 800 children are
pupils of the school. The most famous
graduate is Olympic champion (Rio 2016)
in modern pentathlon Alexander Lesun.
Police pentathlon includes running,
swimming, high-speed shooting, shot
put, long jump.
The Russians Alexander Lesun and Danil
Kalimullin won a bronze medal in the
men’s relay at the World Modern Pentathlon
Championship in Budapest in September
2019. We came to visit the director
of the Severnaya Sports School, two-time
Olympic champion Anatoly Starostin, and
asked him to evaluate the performance of
school graduate Alexander Lesun in Hungary,
and also talked about the different
characters of horses and his work in the
women’s police pentathlon team.
“THE CHARACTER OF A
HORSE RIDER MAY NOT
ALWAYS BE COMPATIBLE
WITH THE NATURE OF THE
HORSE”
“Pentathlon is an unpredictable sport.
It is impossible to say in advance who
exactly will become the champion. Nevertheless,
a high class is a high class, and
the medals of our athletes once again
confirm this”, Anatoly Starostin began the
conversation.
– Does everything in this sport depend
only on the athlete?
– There must be a constant athletecoach
connection. This is an ideal case. It
happens that someone prevails but most
importantly, both should complement
each other.
– Can an insufficiently good organization
of competitions affect the final
result of an athlete?
– There are many different tricks and
nuances. Somewhere there’s a wind,
somewhere there’s a hill. Athletes of the
host country have an advantage since local
athletes already know the track.
– What prevents our pentathletes from
always occupying a leading position?
– I repeat – our sport is very unpredictable.
One of the types of pentathlon is
horseback riding. The horse is chosen by
draw. You might get a less strong horse, or
a very good one. Moreover, the character
of the rider may not always be compatible
with the nature of the horse.
– Does the horseman get acquainted
with the horse before the start?
– After the drawing, you have twenty
minutes so you can meet it.
– Who prepares horses for competitions?
– As a rule, the organizers. Horses undergo
preliminary tests and those who
performed equally become participants.
Hurdle race is the most unpredictable
kind of pentathlon.
– What was your riding like?
– Always different. I never hoped to get
a good horse, so in training I devoted a lot
of time to riding. I studied horses with a
different character and physical fitness
and I did it well. At the 1992 Olympics in
Barcelona, I had a horse which in the first
round before me had not brought a single
point. But I earned a lot of points on
it and we became the second in the team
championship.
“TODAY AT THE AGE OF
14 YOU WON’T BE ABLE
EVEN TO PASS THE TEST”
– Let’s talk about the beginning of
your sports career. Why did you choose
pentathlon?
– At that time, everyone was doing different
sports. I always liked football. But
it so happened that our coach moved to
another city, and the team broke up, and
my elder brother was already engaged in
pentathlon and was already a master of
sports. It was he who brought me to the
sports club.
– You began to get acquainted with
pentathlon at the age of 14. At what
age is it best to come into this sport?
– Previously, there used to be no age
limits, as it is now. Today, if you come at
the age 14, you won’t even pass the test
4/2019
OLYMPIC RESERVE
SPORTS IN PERSON
– Now you are head of the Severnaya
sports school. How is your organization
developing?
– We used to have 400 students, but
now we have doubled their number. Of
which 230 children are involved in pento
be enrolled in a sports school. But there
is a way out, you can work out on a paid
basis, to improve individual disciplines,
but this is a difficult way.
– Did the coach immediately see
your talent?
– It’s difficult to see through, you need
to see a child in competitions. At first I
did not win, but I constantly wanted to
achieve a result – I practised seriously and
a lot, and such an attitude is always important
for a coach.
– They say that you were small, feeble
and came to sport for health.
– (Smiles) It is clear that one of our
tasks is recovery. Moreover, modern pentathlon
harmoniously develops health. Of
course, I wanted some results, but I was
not eye-catching.
tathlon, and we are expecting about a
hundred newcomers. This is due to the
opening of new facilities, which will
house all the five disciplines of modern
pentathlon. Nowadays, we train fencing,
swimming and other types in different locations.
In December it is planned to complete
construction work, and next year we
are going to train in one of the most modern
sports complexes in the world.
– At what age can children take up
pentathlon?
– At the age of ten. There is a swimming
department and we often recruit
athletes from there .
PENTATHLON IS AN UNPREDICTABLE SPORT.
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY IN ADVANCE WHO EXACTLY
WILL BECOME THE CHAMPION.
“I LOVE SPORTS,
AND IT WAS NOT DIFFI-
CULT FOR ME TO BECOME
A MANAGER”
– You took part in the First Goodwill
Games, which were held in 1986 in
Moscow. They were created to reconcile
the two great sports powers – the
USA and the USSR after a decade of the
Cold War. Did you immediately agree
to participate in these competitions?
– I had no doubts, this was an interesting
start, I took part with pleasure even in
two such games – in Moscow and Seattle.
They were like a performance – you could
start at any event.
– Did the relationship between the
two countries improve after that?
– Sport is an ambassador of friendship
that always unites, therefore, of course, it
was a festivity.
– Was the training of pentathletes
different in your time ?
– In my time, there was a system, there
was a mechanism. The athletes moved to
the result more purposefully. If an athlete
finishes his career in one sport, he needs
to continue working as a trainer or a functionary,
and this does not always happen
in our country. Thanks to the President of
the Federation of Modern Pentathlon of
Russia Vyacheslav Aminov, conditions in
the regions are improving. A pentathlon
department has recently been opened in
Smolensk. I think in the long run there will
be better training.
– After the end of your sports career,
you trained the women’s national team
of Russia in police pentathlon.
– I served in the border troops, and I
was asked to prepare a team for the Police
Games, and I was even sent on a business
trip to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
– Did you work with real militiamen?
– Most of them were pentathletes, had
a training in swimming.
– How easy was it for you to work?
– Easy. I also worked with athletes and
they quickly learned everything. Some
technical corrections and that’s it!
– There are sports from which children
are willingly taken to other sports.
Do you have such practice?
– Not from any kind of sport. Swimming
is always a priority. A swimmer is
most adapted to pentathlon. If a candidate
Master of sports comes to us, it’s
easier for him to get a Master in pentathlon
than in swimming. These guys
have a potential for running, they are
more coordinated.
– Director of Olympic College No.1
David Musulbes takes part in the training
process. Do you keep an eye on the
training of your school athletes?
– I always do it with pleasure and share
my experience. From the very youngest
age to groups of high sports mastery.
– Any feedback?
– If there weren’t any feedback,
then the results would not grow, and
our school is famous for its results.
The latest achievement is the Rio 2016
Olympic champion Alexander Lesun.
Before doing pentathlon, he had been
engaged in fencing and swimming.
He devotes a lot of time to training, he
is always looking for something new
and has a good interaction with the
coach.
– How difficult is it to be a manager
after a sports and coaching career?
– It goes without saying that I should
have gone through a period of “rising”.
But I love sports, and it was not so difficult
for me.
who trained with the honored trainer of
Russia Vagif Shirinov, became the WBC
world champion. In the title fight, which
took place in Philadelphia, he defeated
the Ukrainian Alexander Gvozdik in the
10th round by technical knockout. Beterbiev
became the fifth Russian boxer
in history, who managed to combine the
titles. The athlete also owns an IBF belt.
We talked with Arthur about the duel of
views, psychological preparation for the
fight and critical comments by Vasily Lomachenko.
– You are in Moscow now. How do
you spend your time?
– This is the pleasant part of my job –
I come home, give interviews, meet
friends, fans. Home, sweet home.
– Without training so far?
– I train every other day. My coach told
me to rest more. Now there is no aim to
be at the peak of form. The most important
thing is that by the next start I will
recover well, and there will be a desire to
enter the boxing ring again.
– 10 years after the fight among
amateurs, you met with Alexander
Gvozdik in a professional boxing ring.
The two undefeated world champions
make impressing billboards. Did you
feel the tension pumped up by the promoters
before the fight?
– I’ve heard an expression: «To defeat
for the second time the person you won
once in your life is twice as difficult. ” The
opponent has fear of losing again, and he
is more seriously attuned to the fight, he
has more motivation. I did the same and
tuned to the fight with maximum motivation.
I deceived everyone and myself
(laughs).
– What did you see in the eyes of the
opponent during the weigh-in?
– Many told me that he lost the duel of
views. But I did not focus on this. Maybe
this is such a tactic, and he wanted to pretend
to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
– Do you usually watch silently?
– Usually yes, but if the opponent
provokes me, I answer. Once in America
there was a fight with Alexander Johnson.
During the press conference he says: «I
am Alexander the Great and came here
to win.» I take a microphone and answer:
“If you are Alexander the Great, then I
am King Arthur and I also came to win.”
The whole audience laughed, and after a
pause I added: “As for King Arthur, this is a
joke, but as for victory, this is true.”
– How was the fight for you?
– I can say that it was according to the
scenario. We had several action plans. It
was important for us what Gvozdik would
offer, what he would start with. There was
a plan to gently start with a jab from the
first round, from the first hand, to keep
him busy so that he would not have time
to think about anything. I tried to follow
the instructions from my angle. It is always
easier to do so than to invent something
yourself.
– There were some not quite clear
refereeing decisions. Three times Alexander
fell, but the score was not open.
– There are questions to the referees.
We will return to this question when I fly
to Canada.
SPORTS IN PERSON
– They say that in the referee’s
notes, Gvozdik was given more points.
How can this be, you were in the lead,
weren’t you?
– I was shocked when I found it out.
But if you win ahead of time, and they
raise your hand, then after that you don’t
think of it any more.
– Vasily Lomachenko said that it was
not you who won the fight, but it was
Gvozdik who lost. Did you feel offended
to hear that?
– (Laughs.) I didn’t even hear him say
that. Boxers are interesting people, sometimes
they say nonsense. He is a good
boxer, I guess. Doctors are not offended
by their patients. Anyway, they are somehow
trying to help them. So I will not be
offended by the boxer.
– You became the fifth Russian boxer
who managed to combine the titles
in different versions. Did you immediately
realize what you had done?
– Of course not. I just found out about
this from you. I am pleased to know that,
but I did not pursue it.
– When, after the triumph, you arrived
at Domodedovo Airport and saw
how many people were meeting you,
what emotions did you have?
– When I was going to fly to Moscow, I
told only three people, and it was nice to
see so many people at the airport. It’s nice
that they came from the Moscow College
of Olympic Reserve №1 to support me.
The college gave me a lot – discipline, education.
I grew up in the Caucasus, in a society
with different mentality. During the
time spent in Moscow, much has been
transformed for me in a positive way. In
Moscow Olympic College, I somehow
started studying and training better. I remember
that if we talked on the phone
at night – they took it away. If you were
caught twice, there could be a reprimand.
This is not a dictatorship, these are just
hints for the athlete to understand what
he is doing wrong.
Arthur Beterbiev – 34 years old, was
born in Khasavyurt (Dagestan). World
champion, two-time European champion.
Professional career – IBF and WBC world
light heavyweight champion. Undefeated
Champion – 15 KO wins in 15 fights. Nickname:
White Puncher, Wolf.
“THERE WERE COURTS,
AND WHEN I JUST
STEPPED INTO THE
BOXING RING,
I REALIZED THAT I HAD
A CHAMPION FIGHT”
– Your main rewards. How much
does the last belt you have won weigh?
– Honestly, I don’t know. This is a green
belt – it is considered prestigious in the
WBC (holds in hands). In fact, both green
and red are my colors.
– Does this belt turn out to be a challenge
award, or will it remain with you?
– My belt remains with me. For example,
Gvozdik lost the fight and lost the status.
He will have the old belt as a memory,
and another belt is being prepared for the
new champion.
– But this belt is a little different
(we turn to the belt according to IBF).
– Yes, there is a bird and gloves on it.
Interesting one. This is my first trophy.
I like it better. This belt has very strict
rules. At IBF, on the second day after
weighing, you cannot be heavier than 5
kg. This version requires you to defend
the title every year.
– Which of these belts did you get
the hardest?
– This one (points to red). I was involved
in two trials – with a promoter and manager.
I had to fire them, they did not hold
to the terms of the contract. When I just
stepped into the boxing ring, I realized that
a champion fight began.
– Where do you store the belts in
your apartment?
– As you enter my home, they are in
the hallway. When someone comes to
my place, he immediately understands
where he is. Everyone can offend a boxer,
but not everyone has time to apologize
(smiles).
You will see the big interview with
Arthur Beterbiev in the next issue: about
the tragedy of Maxim Dadashev, the regime
of the day, and why he does not want
to give his son to boxing.
WORLD CHAMPION OLESYA ZYKINA:
“I ADVISE YOU TO SMILE BEFORE STARTING”
orld athletics champion Olesya Zykina summed up the results of the world
championship in Doha (Qatar) for the “Olympic Reserve”, assessed the
prospects of Russian athletes and explained how playing the piano helps to
W run fast.
– The season turned out to be long
with the main start in October. I had to
go through two peaks. It was a very difficult
championship. It was hard in Doha
because of the climate and a long-distance
flight. But the leaders that were
counted upon did a great job. There
were victories of Maria Lasitskene and
Angelika Sidorova, strong performances
by Ilya Ivanyuk and Mikhail Akimenko.
The race walker Vasily Mizinov deserves
applause – in such difficult climatic conditions
to reach the finish line... Many
participants could not do this, ” Zykina
began the conversation.
REFERENCE OF THE “OLYMPIC RESERVE”: ”:
Olesya Zykina – two-time world champion, fourtime
indoor world champion, European champion,
bronze and silver Olympic medalist in athletics.
– This championship caused a lot of
questions. Athletes complained about
poor nutrition, severe weather conditions,
and low attendance rate. Was it
worth to hold a tournament in Qatar?
– Hard to say. If the International
Federation decided to hold, then it was
probably worth it. Judging by the picture,
everything was quite spectacular. I
would like to appreciate the innovations,
elements of the show, a vivid representation
of athletes.
– Many athletes were made indignant
by being filmed from a low angle.
– I didn’t really like that either. I did
not see anything interesting in it, any
“explosion” from the start. It is always exciting
to watch and listen from the upper
camera as the stadium braces before the
shot. But the organizers had their own
ideas.
– Your distance is 400 meters. Did
the victory of the representative of
Bahrain Salva Nasser with the third result
in history surprise you?
– I was very surprised by this result,
and the champion herself was surprised.
In appearance, she did not look like an
athlete. She ran perfectly, especially the
last hundred-meter race. Aesthetically,
I enjoyed it. If we talk about the results,
then this season my twenty-year record
was broken. Thanks to Pauline Miller. I
am very happy for her.
INFORMATION: Polina Miller broke
the Russian 400m record (51.00) in August
2019 at the competitions in Madrid. The
previous achievement of Olesya Zykina
was established 20 years ago (51.31).
– In speed skating, world records
are broken regularly. In track and
field, some achievements are held for
decades. What is the reason for this?
– As for the equipment – brand companies
are working on it making it more
light-weight, airy, and seamless. It helps,
but not very much. I can’t say that the
records are standing still. Some are coming
close to Bolt’s record. Young athletes
are jumping for six meters. Now young
people are showing the results that were
previously demonstrated by adult athletes.
Of course, we are a little lagging
behind swimming, but I would not say
that there is no progress.
– The Chinese women made a blunder
in Doha when passing the relay
baton, although they claimed to be
on the podium. How is this possible at
the world championship?
– Yes, they did a very funny pass. This
is the first time I have encountered such
a story in the championship. Usually in
training, we bring this skill to automatism.
Perhaps they did not have enough
practice in this situation. Chinese women
in the 4x400 m relay did not often get
in the top 16. But they still got through.
Although it was very funny. Of course,
this is impermissible.
SPORTS IN PERSON
– The American athlete Crystal Cox
admitted using a doping, and according
to logic the gold medal of the US
national team at the 2004 Games in
the relay of 4 x 400 meters in Athens
should have gone to Russia. But the
IAAF did not make that decision. You
ran in that team. Was it insulting?
– The medals we have are dear to us. It
would not have been insulting if in other
situations they were not allowed to rerun
distances due to their mistakes.
REFERENCE: At the Rio Games in
2016, Allison Felix was unable to pass the
relay baton to English Gardner during
the 4x 100m relay. The Brazilian athlete
ran very close to the edge of the track
and touched Felix with her hand, and the
American dropped the baton. As a result,
the United States came to the finish line
last. The Americans lodged a complaint
and brought about the disqualification of
the Brazilian national team. The USA were
allowed to re-run the relay, and they made
it to the finals, in which they won a gold
medal.
– Why did the Federation do this?
– Perhaps they have strong lawyers.
Maybe it was politics.
– Now a whole constellation of
young athletes has appeared in Russia.
What has to be done to avoid unfair
decisions towards Russian athletes?
– I think you just need to be the first.
To be a cut above the rest.
– Now you are working as a senior
specialist in Moscow athletics teams.
Are you comfortable in this position?
– I like helping the team, advising
something, prompting. We always have
strong athletes.
– Which regions occupy leading positions
in Russian athletics?
– Moscow, Petersburg, Krasnodar
Krai, Siberia, Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg,
Chuvashia, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous
district, Tatarstan, cities on the Volga. All
metropolitan cities are competitive.
– Can a star grow in a small town?
– Small towns are talent foundries of
those stars who then move to larger cities.
There is a different ecology, not so
many temptations. There is an opportunity
to concentrate on your activities.
Sports ground, school, home – everything
is nearby. There are good trainers
who love children. When I travel to small
towns, I always say: “You are a talent
foundry. Take care of the children. «
– Are there any problems with the
conditions for training athletes?
– The problem of lack of bases always
exists. In Europe, they can be in every
educational institution. We have enough
sports grounds now, but there are not so
many stadiums for athletics.
– Is this question being solved
somehow?
– A reconstruction of the Moskvich
stadium is being held, there are plans
for Lefortovo, the Avangard stadium. We
need to deal with the building of bases.
We have coaches, but where will we invite
the children?
– That is, everything is in order with
the coaching staff?
– Many of my friends and colleagues
after completing a professional career
remained in athletics. Young coaches are
inquisitive, are interested in everyone,
do not stand still. Today the children are
different, and all the time we need to interact
with them. It is necessary to invite
specialists from different sports. Not to
get hung up only on athletics. We need
master classes from swimmers, wrestlers,
fitness trainers – we need to exchange
experiences. Such synergy can help.
Young coaches are open to new knowledge,
and I like it.
– How do you evaluate the performances
of track and field athletes of
the Olympic CollegeNo. 1?
– We have our own selection criteria,
and talented children are already here.
And the fact that they can study, train
and take nourishment here is very good.
– Can you single out someone?
– Graduate Kristina Sivkova, pole
vaulters Dmitry Kachanov, Ilya Dolbin,
Victor Pintusov. Yana Melnikova participated
in the European Youth championship.
Now it is a difficult time for athletics,
but the young are not discouraged.
– Why is it a difficult time?
– They can’t participate under the
Russian flag. Their motivation is falling.
– When can this situation change, in
your opinion?
– I think this situation will be settled
soon. The Russian Olympic Committee
must make its decision, disclose all the
information. I have no authority to speak
on this subject.
– How can we increase the motivation
for young athletes?
– If there is a result, we cheer up.
When you are young, you always want
to show what you can. For adults motivation
is harder to reach. We are given
neutral statuses, and the young in this
regard are a priority. Russian youth is
more trusted.
SPORTS IN PERSON
– Is there a chance to reset?
– There is. It is today’s guys who will
be the new beginning of the Russian
team.
– On November 5, your mentor, Sergei
Reutov, Honored Coach of Russia,
would have turned 69 years old. What
are your memories of him?
– Sergey Sergeyevich has long been
gone out of my life. As always happens
with an athlete and a coach, I had a difficult
relationship with him. We broke
each other, we proved something to
each other, but I always believed him.
I did not always believe in myself. But
when he came up and said: “Olesya, everything
will be fine,” I calmed down. He
was the accumulator of all my results. He
was talented, complex, brilliant and productive.
– Do you remember the day you
came to athletics?
– I came after graduating from the
music school. I am very grateful to my PE
teacher. If not for his boring: «Olesya, go
running!» – I would not have come.
– How old were you?
– 14. Before, I wouldn’t have time to
do music, school and sports together.
Music helped me in sports. I graduated
from a piano class. The motility of the
fingers has a good effect on the speed in
legs, therefore, while training the fingers,
I also trained the legs. My first coach was
Alexander Panteleevich Laskutkin. We
practised in an ordinary gym, then we
ran in an asphalt stadium where it was
impossible to train in spikes. Twice a
week we went to the arena. In general,
the conditions weren’t easy.
– Your first success at the highest
level was the bronze of the 2000
Olympics in Sydney. Then the team
in the relay managed to jump above
their heads, or was there a chance to
win the award of a higher standard?
– I got to my first Olympiad because
the coach really wanted to. I did not believe,
but he believed. I just did what he
said. I was scared and excited during the
selection for the Games. Strong, experienced
girls ran there.
At the Games, I only ran in the race.
We did not go through acclimatization
in Australia, it was very difficult to run.
In the finals, Privalova already ran as
an Olympic champion. Because of my
young age, they were frightened of putting
me in the main race. Of those young,
besides me, there were only Isinbayeva
and Borzakovsky.
16 OLYMPIC RESERVE 4/2019

SPORTS IN PERSON
– Are you upset that you weren’t
put in the finals?
– I really wanted to run, but understanding
came later. I am very grateful to
my older girls who took me under their
wing.
– Can you name the most valuable
medal for you?
– The medals are all different. Olympic
medals are especially dear. There are
medals that were hard to get. They come
from different championships and from
Birmingham, the European Championship.
I have always brought medals from
international starts and did not see the
point of coming without a medal.
– 400 meters is a hard distance.
What’s the way to run it right, and is it
still a sprint?
– This is a sprint. I’m generally a type
of sprinter girl. Endurance came to me
later. Initially, it was very hard for me. I
wanted to do everything quickly. How
did I choose 400 meters? My PE teacher
offered me to run for my school at the
city championship. “There are 100, 200
and 400 metres – what do you choose?
You have to run 100 metres fast right
away, and 400 metres you can start slower.”
So, he cheated me (laughs)! Since
then I have been running this distance.
At 400 meters, it is important to properly
expand your sprinter’s potential. You
need to train speed endurance. It is not
given for nothing. We ran a lot of crosscountry
races in the preparatory period.
Then we switched to long distances.
– Which lane did you like to run on?
– I ran on all lanes. The first one, of
course, is not very convenient. I loved
the last very much, I did not always want
to see the rivals. If you know how to expand
strength, then rivals are not necessary
to see. At the last hundred meters
you will still see everyone.
– Imagine a most important start.
There is a minute left before the pistol
shoots. What are the thoughts in your
head?
– At this moment it is better not to
think, but to focus on yourself. An athlete
has an internal energy. At my first
Olympiad, the senior girls on the national
team said: «Never look at the
stands.» They understood that I was
young and could be confused. We are
like batteries that are ready to give out
the maximum. I tried to calm myself before
the start, to breathe so that there
was no hysterical tremor. Say a few encouraging
words to yourself. When you
put your foot onto the starting blocks,
it’s no longer scary. It’s scary when you
are introduced. I always advise to smile
at this moment – there are a lot of facial
muscles on the face, and this helps to
relax. You can laugh a little.
– But in the day when you found
out with whom you were running,
what helped to relax?
– Thoughts seethe madly in my brain; I
was trying to run in my thoughts. A book,
classical music, just chatting with someone
not about sports. The girls brought
embroidery, just had a walk. You mustn’t
think about the start. You mustn’t visualize
that you’re on the pedestal. You just
mustn’t think about it.
OLYMPIC CHAMPION SOCHI-2014
RUSLAN ZAKHAROV:
“THANKS TO THE HEAD COACH OF THE TEAM
FOR TRANSFERRING ME TO THE RESERVE”
hange of sport, three-year-old maximalist son, CSKA prospects, home games
С
Gold medal, Olympic vow, Victor An and Dmitry Guberniev. Ruslan Zakharov
came to ice skating two years ago and in the first season won the European
Championship mass start. But last four international tournaments in a row in
the final at this distance the athlete falls. However at the second stage of the World Cup in
polish city Tomaszow, the skater had a positive moment – Ruslan won the first medal at the
World Cup – bronze in the team race with Danila Semerikov and Alexander Rumyantsev. So
we began our conversation like this.
INFORMATION FROM THE OLYMPIC
RESERVE: Ruslan Zakharov – Russian short-track
player and skater, Olympic champion, European
champion, Russian champion
– While watching the video of the race,
I can find flaws, correcting which I can run
even faster. Of course, I always want to
perform better, but for the first team race
of the season everything went fine.
– When in the mass start at international
starts you fell for the fourth time
in a row, you ironically wrote in social
networks: “Poker”. Is it a typical bad
luck or is there another reason?
– I don’t have a special answer to the
question: “Why do I fall in the fourth final
in a row?” But I am sure that there is a problem,
and it lies on the surface. Last season
in the mass start, I often ended up in the
top 10, but not in the top three. This, of
course, is not what I want. Apparently, my
excessive desire to change this trend leads
to mistakes which appear in the falls.
– I hope you unlucky line will finish.
At the World Cups selection – the
championship of Russia in individual
distances in Kolomna in early November,
you collected awards of all
merits.
– It was the most intense championship
for me in Russia, the first time I ran all
four days in a row: team race, 5 km, mass
start, and finished everything with 10 km,
so after the competition I had to rest for
several days.
– You have beaten long-distance
partners in the team – the winners of
the World Cup Danila Semerikova and
Alexander Rumyantsev. It turns out
that good shape came to you faster?
– It turns out so. It is nice to run and
show good results. We conducted there
small coaching experiments. They seem
to be working out so far.
– What experiments, if it is not a secret?
– We are always in a search. Today it
works out, but not tomorrow. I have tried
everything!
– Two years ago you switched from a
short track to ice skating. Why did you
make such a decision?
– For the first time, conversation about
this was at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver
during dinner. Alexander Kibalko then
gave me his skates and said: “Take it and go
skate.” Nothing lasts forever, every athlete
will have an end of his career, even Claudia
Pechstein (laughs) will someday have an
end of her career. Although it is hard to believe.
I began to lose the competition in the
short track to the younger guys, and at that
time the head coach of the team Andrei
Ivanovich Maximov, even before me and
before the official starts, had decided that
I lost the competition and had transferred
me to the reserve team. And this magical
push helped me realize an old dream.
Thank you very much for that.
– How do you like the first training in
speed skating, what was your attitude
towards the team?
4/2019
OLYMPIC RESERVE
19

SPORTS IN PERSON
– The first training camp was in May
2017 in Anapa. Before that, I had never
ridden a road bike. Viktor Sivkov asked me
if I can ride in a group, and then I deceived
him. In order not to let him down, I had
not to drink the entire cycle train, because
I could not take my hands off the steering
wheel. The rest of the guys always helped,
prompted me.
– So, was not there hazing?
– I am the oldest one, what hazing?
When there are Rumyantsev, Semerikov
in your sparring, and at that time there
was still Sinitsin, then nothing needs to
be done, just repeat – that’s all.
– Were there moments when you
thought about what might not work
out in skates?
– I still think that maybe I chose the
wrong way 25 years ago, maybe I had to
play hockey (laughs). But I still go this way.
– There are many cases of transition
from skates to a short track. But more
often after changing the sport, athletes
run short and medium distances.
You decided to prepare for long ones.
– Actually, I didn’t choose. Where they
identified me, there I went. I was told that
«you will begin your training in the group
of Viktor Alexandrovich Sivkov.» And I never
had speed qualities even in a short track.
– You said that with Viktor Sivkov
you can not relax. Is it possible to say
that in skates they train more intensive
than in a short track?
– No, a short track is an energy-intensive
sport, there is a lot of lactate work,
it cannot be said that skates are heavier
than a short track, it is another specificity.
At first it was hard for me to rebuild. Spin
the bike for 4 hours and dry workouts for
2.5 hours.
– Were not there thoughts, like Jorin
Ter Morse, at the Olympics to represent
two sports at once?
– There are such dreams, of course.
Combining skates and a short track, and
maybe also football, but I’m not as unique
as Ter Morse. The competition is so high
that internal selection is almost impossible.
I would not want to spray.
– One of the stages of the World Cup
last season you ran at the open ice rink
in Tomakomai. In the short track, they
always run under the roof. Was it unusual?
– Emotions, of course, a lot left. I still remember
this rink. I hope that I will never
have to perform on an outdoor ice rink
again. This is a slightly different sport. Not
a bad experience, but let it be the only one.
– Surely Alexander Rumyantsev told
you how he had trained on the open air
in cold Arkhangelsk.
– Yes, Sasha is training in open ice in
Arkhangelsk today. He does not have to
use to it. But I do not want, thanks.
– Short track is a sport of excitement,
entertainment. Skates are more
academic. At first were not you bored?
– Bored – no, I always watched speed
skating. I agree with you. The short track is
more pleasant to watch from the stadium,
and the closer to the arena, the better, but
watching the short track on TV now does
not give me much pleasure. From the
point of view of the broadcast format, it’s
easier to show the skates, as short-circuit
competitions are tidy, there are a lot of ice
floes, and therefore it is difficult to attract
sponsors to make the sport more popular.
There are not so many sponsors in ice
skating, but ISU (International Union of
Skaters) has already done a lot for this.
It would be good to remove a couple of
classic distances.
20 OLYMPIC RESERVE 4/2019

SPORTS IN PERSON
– So remove the top ten?
– Why the top ten? I did not say the
top ten.
– And then what?
– I will not say, otherwise tomatoes or
cucumbers will fly into me. But I have my
own ideas on this subject.
– You can write a letter to ISU.
– I think it’s easier to become the president
of the organization, because letters
can be written for 25 years, as in “The
Shawshank Redemption”.
– Your younger brother Timur also
went from the short track to ice skating.
There is also a young sprinter
Ruslan Zakharov. It turns out that surname
Zakharov became skating?
– That’s right (smiles).
– In the short track were not you offended
that you went to ice skating?
– I think the guys exhaled and said:
«Minus two.» In the short track there is a
quick change of generations. We always
communicate with the guys, cheer them.
– You are already in the third season
in skates. What kind of sport is closer to
you?
– If you don’t like the business you are
doing, it makes no sense to do it. If I go
in for skates, then of course I love skates
the most.
– Year 2014. Home Olympics. Relay
race finish. Do you remember your first
emotions, did you immediately believe
in such a success?
– During the race, when two teams
fell at the start, I already believed that we
were very close to the medal. The most important
thing was not to make a mistake.
Our team showed high results during the
pre-Olympic and Olympic seasons, and
therefore we knew that we could compete.
Fans helped a lot – I did not see such
an atmosphere at any stadium.
– At the opening ceremony of the
Games, you pronounced the Olympic
oath. Did you worry at that moment?
– Of course I was worried. When I entered
the arena and looked at the stands,
I thought: let me read a piece of paper,
otherwise I will forget the text from fear.
-When did they tell you before the
ceremony that you will read?
– In a day or two. We had one rehearsal.
I learned it, there were only three lines, and
there was a dubbing of the text ahead, but
the regulations allowed me to read on a
piece of paper, and I decided to use it.
– When were you more worried:
before the race or before reading the
oath?
– When you run, you understand that
you have no right to make a mistake, but
there it’s ok. Except for commentator Guberniev,
nobody will tell you anything.
– The Olympic season for you ended
unsuccessfully – the breakdown of
Achilles. How did the rehabilitation
process go?
– But for almost three months I was
resting like a man (laughs). In fact, I was
ready that something could go wrong,
and I might not return to sports, but the
successful season made it possible to relax.
The surgeon who sewed the Achilles for
me said that it would never break again.
– Due to the removal of the Russian
team, you didn’t get to your third
Olympics. Did you find the strength
to watch skating competitions from
Pyeongchang then?
– We enjoyed watching, sick, worried,
noted. Especially pleased for the Italian
Nicola Tumolero, who became the third
in the top ten. We went with Sanya Rumyantsev
to the bar that day, took vodka,
the next day we had a day off. We drank it
properly and thought if the little Tumolero
can get to the bronze, then we can. We
need four more years to train and wait for
the next invitation.
– Did that situation make you a little
angry?
– Not at all, the victories of other
athletes say that nothing is impossible.
Rumyantsev was then in perfect shape
and understood that he need to be somewhere
there.
– Alexander was also upset that he
was not put on the top ten in Sochi.
– I agree, this is a coaching decision, I
can’t say for sure. A person needs to go
through some stages, run away as he
wants, and win it.
– In 2016, your first son was born.
Did his birth influence on motivation
in sports?
– Children as a whole change our lifestyle
and attitude, a new responsibility
appears. My eldest son Arthur supported
me in the stands at the championship of
Russia, and I was very pleased.
– What did he say when he realized
what his father was doing?
– He was at a distance of 5 km and said:
Dad, why only the third place? I told him:
Third is also a good place.
– Your most rigorous examiner.
– While he is a child, he thinks that only
the first places can be taken. But he gives
a good guide.
– Semyon Elistratov loves cars, but
admits that he does not ride fast in the
city. Do you like to drive fast?
– Yes, I really love. The main thing is
that the car allows it. When you go to the
mass start and feel that you are weak, it is
better not to stand out – you ride somewhere
behind. Now I have something like
this (laughs). The car is good, but it has
modest dynamic characteristics. I haven’t
been driving fast lately, but when I had
the Cooper S and I was alone at the wheel,
I was allowed to drive fast enough within
the rules of the road.
– What car do you have now?
– I drive the car that was presented
for the Alternative Games – this is the
BMW X4.
– In addition to the short track and
skates, do you follow other sports?
– I follow many sports, and if I don’t
follow ones so my wife tells me. She really
likes gymnastics, figure skating. I prefer
playing sports, I like skiing, I got into
rugby.
– You play for CSKA. Do you support
the football club?
– I’m not just such a fan. I just like when
CSKA wins.
– But CSKA has been playing uneven
lately.
– I am not as professional to have my
own point of view. I know that in CSKA is
a cool coach who previously worked in
Ufa, I myself lived in this city. He was very
loved by us, and now he is loved in CSKA.
A lot depends on him, and I think everything
will be fine.
– You said that you would like to run
out of the marathon 3:30, but because
of the tight training schedule, this has
not yet been possible. Does the desire
still exist?
– I will run hundred percent, my desire
only intensified. Now it seems to me that
I will run 3:30. But it is for the first marathon.
The main thing is to enjoy everything.
I can combine 3:30 and have fun.
– Will it be possible to do it this season,
in May, for example?
– My next May is planned out, and
there is no marathon there yet.
– What do you plan to do after your
career?
– There is plan A, plan C, coaching is also
one of them. True, I don’t know yet where.
I don’t feel like squandering yet. I try to
concentrate now on my work. Fortunately,
HONORED COACH OF THE USSR
EVGENY GOMELSKY:
“I AM PROUD TO BE HENPECKED”
o meet with the legendary basketball coach Eugene Gomelsky you do not need to
Т
look for some reason. His signature tales, stories and authoritative opinions are
always relevant. In our conversation, the master talked about the half – thieves’
talk of modern trainers, evaluated the film “Upward Movement”, recalled how his
brother had raised him, and revealed his main secret.
– Evgeny Yakovlevich, how do you
assess the start of the Euroleague for
Russian clubs?
– It’s too early to talk about some
kind of start (the conversation took place
on October 24, 2019). As for CSKA, it will
continue to fight for high places, despite
changes in composition. If we talk about
Khimki, I don’t know what to say, now I
am waiting.
– When will we see this club in the
Final Four?
– I thought we would see Khimki there
this year. But now there are some doubts.
How will Kurtinaitis (Rimas Kurtinaitis, the
head coach of Khimki. – Ed.) deal with the
team players, when will Brains recover?
– Zenit made its debut in the Euroleague,
losing three out of four games.
What is our team missing yet?
– I think participation our third team
in the Euroleague was, first of all, provided
for what city it is. St. Petersburg is
a cultural capital. In 1906, basketball in
Russia appeared in this city. It was taken
into account that in the Northern capital
this sport has high popularity. And the
fact that now not everything works out
is the cost of the start of the tournament.
And the victory over CSKA in VTB United
League suggests that there are some
hopes.
“WHY SHOULD I
FIGHT? I AM SITTING
ON A BENCH, WAVING
A TOWEL, CLAPPING
MY HANDS”
– Let’s move from basketball club to
the national team. At last World Championships
held in China, the men’s Russian
team became only the twelfth,
and last time it got prizes more than
twenty years ago. What, in your opinion,
are the reasons for the failures?
– We could discuss this topic during
three interviews. We went to what we got
today, both in men’s and women’s basketball.
The logo “Abroad will help us” does
not work. Let’s buy legionnaires in each
team and forget that we have Russian
players who need to play for the national
team. The vast majority of national basketball
players are not the leading players
of their clubs, spending the minimum
time on the court. The top teams have
SPORTS IN PERSON
eight foreign players. It’s also sad for me
that Russian clubs have foreign coaches
who do not work with reserves. A big
galaxy of young people appeared who
were satisfied with the bench place with
a good contract. Why should I fight? I sit
on a bench, wave a towel, clap my hands,
and rejoice the results that the team is
showing. Let the Americans play, the
Serbs. These guys have no psychology of
winners.
– But what about the success of David
Blatt?
– I know him from Israel and “Dynamo.”
He is a really good and competent coach,
who knows how to find a contact with
players. But we must remember if Blatt
would have been the coach of the European
champions if there had not been
Kirilenko, Khryapa, Holden in the team?
– Should we wait for the next star
generation?
– Firstly, there are a lot of good guys and
girls in our country. Tall, and long-armed,
and well moving. But how do they break
into the top teams? Where do they prove
themselves? Sitting on a bench you will
never become a player. It is important to
play on court. Go abroad? Someone does it.
– Is that good for players?
– I would not say. The worst thing is
that they are not in demand in their country.
– What is the current situation with
children’s basketball in the country?
– Russia, like no other country in Europe,
is rich in talents. There are a lot of tall
guys. The problem is the coaching team.
During the collapse of the Union, we lost
many specialists who not only loved their
job, but also respected children. Today at
the seminars I am amazed at the vocabulary
of trainers. It seems they are talking
in a half – thieves’ talk, half-hooligan tone.
This culture prevents a lot of them from
becoming not only trainers, but also people.
If you do not respect children, then
why did you go to this profession? Go
to the machine, go to the mine. And the
second point: where to go next? There are
talks like: «Talent will break through.» Talent
will break through if it is supported, if
there is trust.
– What is needed to be done, first of
all, to change the situation?
– I would reduce the number of foreign
trainers in our country. Volleyball players
have six people on the court. From these,
there can be only two legionnaires.
– Can the Olympic reserve school
named after Alexander Gomelsky be a
model in this way?
– At first it was focused on girls. In
recent years, boys have appeared, and
very good ones. Sizov Valery Nikolaevich
and other coaches are conducting serious
work. The school won three out of
four championships of Russia at different
age. I know the head Perekrestova Elena
Vyacheslavovna. She loves only the first
place, is fighting for the result and waiting
for the indicators. In the school there
are not only basketball, but also figure
skating, swimming, pentathlon. I have
been at your school (RBM No. 1. – Approx.
Ed.) – This is a huge department. It’s great
that there is something to show, whom to
look up to.
“LET’S FACE IT – IN THE
FINAL OF THE 1972
OLYMPICS, THE STUDENT
TEAM OF THE UNITED
STATES PLAYED
AGAINST US”
– The victory of the Soviet team at
the 1972 Olympics in the legendary
duel with the United States. Your ward,
Alexander Boloshev, played in that
team. Remember your emotions after
the throw of Alexander Belov?
– Alexander Boloshev was not only a
wonderful player, but also a great guy.
I was still a young man, I was not yet 80
years old. And then my first pupil turned
out to be the Olympic champion. I remember
Nina Yeremina’s comment about
three seconds. These events were shown
in the film «Upward Movement».
SPORTS IN PERSON
– How do you like this film?
– Firstly, this picture is a feature film,
and various inaccuracies are possible in it.
I was shocked that Paulauskas (Modestas
Paulauskas captain of the USSR national
team, Olympic champion 1972. – Approx.
Ed.) was made a defector, who wants to
escape abroad. This guy is an honest man,
Soviet was in his soul and mind. How can
we say that he is some kind of defector? I
think it was reasonable that the wives of
Kondrashin (Vladimir Kondrashin, coach
of the Olympic team in 1972. – Approx.
Ed.) and Belov (Alexander Belov, Olympic
champion in 1972, the author of the winning
throw in the final of the Olympics-72. –
Approx. Ed.) were strongly against the
release of this picture. But the film turned
out to be good, exciting. We watched it
with the Basketball Federation. Next to
me was a woman who did not know the
history of this event, and when the American
threw the penalties, she shouted: «Do
not get in, loose!». That is, the film captured
her. And we must pay tribute to the
actors. I was in several cities, advising and
helping on the creation of this film.
– How then did the country react to
a historic victory?
– The euphoria was great. The Olympics
turned out to be controversial. Terrorists
captured the Israeli team. It was
impossible not to notice the shooting
and the protest. Unfortunately, for political
reasons, the USSR team was not on it.
I don’t want to downgrade that victory
anyway, but let’s admit, the United States
student team played against us. They
thought that students would also beat
the Russians, but they were mistaken.
– Did the boys run to the basketball
section then?
– I think yes. And after the movie “Upward
Movement”, too.
“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE,
WHAT KIND OF ECCENTRIC
ARE YOU?” MY BROTHER
TOLD ME, WHEN I DID
NOT LET HIM TAKE
THE TITLE
– You have played in the Leningrad
Spartak. In 2014, the team stopped existing.
– I am a graduate of the Spartak Children’s
Sports School. This team was the
personification of St. Petersburg. There
was an outstanding boy Belov – and the
carriers of shells that could not be called
outstanding. And Kondrashin was a
bencher, who could well let a person to
replace, take a timeout. Belov at that time
was the only one invited by the NBA. I witnessed
such a conversation: in 1976, the
great basketball player Bill Russell asked
if it was possible to do an interview with
Sasha. Alexander asked to the leads of
the delegation, and he was allowed. And
so when the team got on the bus, Kondrashin
pushed Belov into the bus and
allowed no interviews and conversations.
– Your brother Alexander Gomelsky
began his coaching career at Leningrad
Spartak. How much influence did
he have on your future?
– I was very lucky to be born eleven
years after my brother. I no longer needed
to choose a profession. Yes, we are small,
yes, not very tall, but persistent. I often
imitated my brother. In the early years of
my life, he was more father to me than a
brother. During the war we left the besieged
Leningrad. And when we returned,
if at school I behaved indecently, he confidently
clamped my head between his
knees and walked well with a belt over my
buttocks. So everything was in order, the
upbringing was good.
After school I entered a university in
Riga, the family then had a difficult financial
situation, and I lived with Sasha. He
played for the university’s team and kept
thinking how not to let his brother down.
After all, we are the only brothers in
the world who led their teams to the gold
of the Olympics and are listed in the FIBA
Hall of Fame. I always remembered whose
name I have, and how to behave.
– You had to play against Alexander
when you headed Dynamo, and your
brother CSKA.
– Somehow, five rounds before the
end of the national championship,
CSKA could beat us and win gold medals.
But we won. After the match, he
did not shake my hand. Then he called,
and I heard a lot of pleasant «censor-
ship» words. “What have you done, what
kind of eccentric are you?” He shouted.
And then two hours later he called back
and said: “Eugene, you know, we have
once again shown that we cannot have
any tricky moments, we always fight for
victory.”
– Did you expect such a reaction
from your brother?
– (Smiles.) Expected one hundred percent.
– You worked with male and female
teams. What is the fundamental difference?
– With women, psychology must be
given great importance. Sometimes a
man can not always say a censored word.
With women, you always need to remember
and think what you are saying and
to whom you are talking. I paid great attention
to psychology and I believe that I
have succeeded in this.
“DAD, THANKS FOR
ISRAEL, BUT I WANT
TO GO TO MOSCOW”
– You had a period when you decided
to leave to work abroad. How easy
was this decision?
– They made me do it. Few people
know – Kapranov and I (the honored coach
of the USSR Vadim Kapranov. – Ed.) went
to the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992,
already freed from the Russian team.
The coaches gathered on the eve of the
Olympics in the bathhouse and decided
among themselves that the team was not
shining anything else. Why leave us in the
national team if serious changes are coming?
At the Games, I was approached by
the leaders of various clubs. The Israelites
really wanted to get my brother. But in
the end, I ended up in Israel. When I just
arrived in the country, every three meters
I heard either the Russian word or the
Russian swearing.
We then got into the eight of the
strongest teams in Europe (Eugene
coached the women’s team “Elitsur.” –
Approx. Ed.). I had a contract for five
years, but two years later, my son, who
at the age of 15 played in the Israeli
national water polo team, said: «Dad,
thank you for Israel, but I want to go
to Moscow.» My daughter worked in
Belgium, and lived in Moscow. I didn’t
want to break up my family, and then
I put together a team, explained the
situation and left.
– You have repeatedly noted that it
is important for you to speak the same
language with the players.
– My wife and I went to the Ulpan
(Hebrew school. – Ed.). After all, the
Israel players did not come to me in
Moscow, but I came to work with them.
Seven months later, I had already started
training in Hebrew and noticed that
no one was trying to change my accent
or the wrong words, on the contrary,
the girls were glad that I respected
them and their language. Until now,
when I meet the Israelis, I try to speak
Hebrew with them.
– In 1998, the Russian women’s team
under your leadership won the silver of
the World Cup. What was the task before
the start of the tournament, and
was it possible to complete it?
– Then a powerful squad was picked
up, and we knew that we could give battle
to the Americans. They could have
become world champions, but when we
scored, the American scored three threepointers
in a row. But silver was won in
a worthy fight. Many viewers supported
us. The Americans then behaved too selfconfident,
and wanted to «punch them in
the nose», but could not.
– Evgeny Yakovlevich, reveal your
professional secret.
– The most important secret is to remain
who you are. And it is important to
understand humor – this is part of our
life, it can rally and, when necessary, adjust.
All the secrets are in my wife. I am the
only Gomelsky who has one wife. We live
together for fifty-five years. I am proud
that I am henpecked. You come home –
and the atmosphere is the most valuable
and the best. She allows me to be a man
and continue to live.
DREAM GOALKEEPER
OF SANTIAGO BERNABEU:
PREMIERE OF THE FILM ABOUT LEV YASHIN
W
hy the film about the great goalkeeper will not be
criticized, like «Legend No. 17» and «Movement
Up» – about the picture without spoilers.
On November 28, the film “Lev Yashin.
Goalkeeper of my dreams ”, and on
Monday in the cinema “ October ” the
premiere of the picture. An hour before
the start of the show on the red carpet
appeared the leading actor, Alexander
Fokin.
“In one of the documentaries, Lev
Ivanovich told how he conceded his first
ball from the goalkeeper of the opposing
team by the collar. I watched a lot of
chronicle about him, and when I realized
how it was represented in my imagination,
I tried to imagine and add something
from myself, ”Fokin told about
preparations for the shooting.
The grandson of Yashin, former goalkeeper
Vasily Frolov, took part in the
work on the film. Perhaps the director of
the film, Vasily Chiginsky, was selecting
an actor similar to his relative for the role
of Lev Yashin. In the main picture, Vasily
and Alexander look like brothers.
Against the background of the movie
poster posed the actors and Dynamo
players, and a little later appeared the
captain of the club Anton Shunin. While
journalists were talking with the stars, the
silver medalist of the European Championship
Vladimir Pilguy stood modestly
aside. It was he who became the successor
to Lev Yashin, replacing the legendary
goalkeeper in his farewell match in 1971
between the Dynamo national team and
the World Stars team (2: 2).
The script for the film was written by
the author of a picture about Sherlock
Holmes and the melodrama «Winter
Cherry» Vladimir Valutsky, who died four
years ago. The playwright worked on the
text in constant consultation with the
widow of Yashin Valentina Timofeevna.
She was initially critical of the idea of
filming, and the authors of the picture
did everything possible to prevent this
film from repeating the concept of «Legends
No. 17» and «Movement Up», in
which historical facts were distorted for
the sake of artistic effect.
Filming due to insufficient funding
dragged on for 5 years. Supported the
release of the film on the screens Sergey
Stepashin, Alisher Usmanov and Vladimir
Medinsky. As a result, Goskino nevertheless
allocated funds at an important
stage of post-production – editing the
film after filming.
During the work on the picture, even
formed a family, and on the day of the
premiere the couple had a son, who was
named Leo.
The atmosphere at the event was
positively old-fashioned. Dynamo is one
of the few Russian clubs that have preserved
traditions. This was made possible
thanks to the figure of Yashin.
“The Dynamo Society badge still
has the name of Dzerzhinsky. I really
hope that this will be correct if the
sign is named in honor of the great
Lev Yashin,” said commentator Dmitry
Guberniev, evening host, before the
show.
“Goalkeeper of my dreams,” – said the
president of Real Madrid Santiago Bernabeu
after Yashin’s refusal to go to the
team of Madrid “for any money” after
winning the USSR national team title at
the first European Cup of 1960.
Goalkeeper and Dynamo captain Anton
Shunin is 32 years old. At this age, his
legendary teammate, after a triumph,
suffered harassment and was able to
rise again to a high level. Perhaps, after
watching the picture, Shunin will make
saves more often, similar to the penalty
reflected by him in a recent match with
Rostov, and Dynamo will return to the
leading position of domestic football
again.
The film about Lev Yashin is, first of all,
a human story. It begins in Gagra in 1949
and ends in Moscow in the 90th. The story
of love, victories, failures and real life,
which lived the Great goalkeeper.
P. S. October 22 marks the 90th
birthday of Lev Ivanovich Yashin.
met with Ekaterina after a triumph.
From our conversation you will learn:
why the athlete did not show the joy
of victory, how she does without social
networks and why she wants to gain
weight.
“After the finale, there were no longer
any emotions. My strength was over, and
I relied only on God’s help. It seemed to
many that I was not happy when I was declared
the winner. But this was not true – I
was just very tired and could no longer
rejoice, ”said Paltsev about her first feelings
after the finals of the World championship.
– And then, in the locker room?
– Only a few days later I recovered and
realized that everything was fine.
– What was the final fight with the
representative of India Manju Rani?
– This is a strong boxer, and even before
the fight I had health problems: my
ears were stuffy, my nose was not breathing.
It was very cold there, especially for
me, a southerner. Many arrived without
warm clothes and froze. But that did not
stop me from winning.
– Your coach Albert Mutalibov said
that you were ready for Indian technology
and battle tactics.
– At the last World Cup, I lost in the first
fight. And only now I can say that it had a
positive effect – I became stronger, more
assertive. After the defeat, I spent sparring
with representatives of schools from
the USA, Japan, Algeria, and India.
– What was the peculiarity of your
opponent in the finals?
– If American women sit on their front
foot more and box like standing up and
don’t like left-handed people, and I’m
just left-handed, then the Indian woman
prefers direct punches. The difficulty was
to approach her. To do this, I needed to
swing Rani’s body to pull her out.
– In boxing, are you left-handed or
right-handed?
– For a left-hander it is difficult to meet
a left-handed person. There used to be
few left-handed people, now there are
half of them.
I THOUGHT: “WHO IS
– How did you psychologically prepare
– I had no thoughts about gold, I did
I never believe in myself (smiles), underestimate
myself. This is all with God’s help.
– What did the coach say at the moments
– You have been kickboxing since 4
years old, why did you choose boxing
in the end?
– I personally did not choose anything.
My father coached my sister and me.
– Is your dad a coach?
– No, he is an amateur. He made us a
bag, held us on paws, and at the age of 7
he put us to the kickboxing section. But
after a few years, my father decided that
we should go to boxing, as this is a more
serious level.
– Did you immediately like martial
arts or were there any other temptations?
– No, from the very beginning I loved
sports and what my father gave me. I
didn’t even have to be motivated.
– What is your professional secret
that helps to win?
– My secret is simple – to love what you
are doing, and rely only on yourself and
the Lord.
– Russia is not the safest country.
Have you ever had situations in life
when martial arts skills helped you?
– No one will even attack me. I don’t
know why, but it doesn’t happen (laughs).
“I LOVE CLASSICAL
LITERATURE – HUGO,
DUMAS, PIKUL”
– What do you do in your free time
of sports?
– When you put one thing in the first
place, there is no time left for the other.
All my rest is associated with passive recovery
– sleep, reading books.
– What books are you reading?
– I prefer classical literature. Hugo’s
“The Man Who Laughs”, like all the Dumas
works.
– What do you feel after reading the
works of these authors?
– You begin to think, to understand
what and how, to delve into history. For
example, Pikul has a continuous history.
You begin to study all this.
– Do you have time for your personal
life in your busy schedule?
– Yes, but a little. My family lives in
the Krasnodar Territory, but I can only fly
there once or twice a year and for a maximum
of two weeks.
– What kind of advice would you
give to students of MSSUOR No. 1?
– Approach everything correctly, with
a head. Do not blindly go to your goal, but
do not forget about your health. You must
be able to listen to your body.
SPORTS IN PERSON
NIKITA NAGORNY:
“WHEN I CLOSED MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL,
I RECEIVED THOUSAND LETTERS FROM
THE PARENTS OF GYMNASTS”
INFORMATION FROM THE OLYMPIC
RESERVE: Nikita Nagorny – silver medalist at the
Olympic Games, three-time world champion, sixtime
European champion in gymnastics
At the October World Championships
in artistic gymnastics in Stuttgart,
Germany, Nikita Nagorny, a graduate of
Moscow Olympic College №1, won three
gold medals – in the individual and team
all-around and vault. We talked with the
athlete and learned how he relates to
the fact that he is confused with Arthur
Dalaloyan, what his diet consists of during
competitions, why they have a taboo
with his wife Daria Spiridonova about
talking at home about gymnastics, and
why he refused to advertise on his You-
Tube channel.
– A year ago, the Russian team lost
to China in the team all-around at the
World Championships in Doha, only
one thousandth of a point. Did you
easily forget that insulting defeat?
– We did not forget. Throughout the
year, we have been preparing, trying to
prove that this thousandth was occasional.
And we managed to do it.
– At the World Cup this year, you
have not made a single mistake. What
helps you concentrate?
– There is no certain secret. Just trying
to set myself up so as not to make a mistake.
Maximize self-confidence.
– During your performance on the
bar in the arena, sound of heartbeat
was turned on. Did it distract you?
– Not very distracting, but I heard that.
I wondered a little: what was it?
– Is this some kind of know-how of
the organizers?
– I’ve never heard of or seen this before.
But it was fun, it caused additional
emotions.
– Speaking of emotions – when you
emotionally supported your teammates
before your performance, did it
take away your energy?
– I did not think about that. I had no
task to save energy. I perfectly understood
that in competitions I would spend
it anyway. It happens that you come calm
to the tournament, try not to waste your
emotions, and burn up. No need to specifically
save power.
“ONLY LATER HALF AN
HOUR OF CONVERSATION,
THEY UNDERSTOOD
THAT I’M NOT ARTHUR,
BUT NIKITA”
– Your 2019 World Cup medals are
very extraordinary – they glow. Do you
recharge them often?
– I never recharged them: as we flew
from the World Cup, the battery died.
All TV shows asked to bring medals, so I
always used to take them with me. Now
the medals are on the shelf together with
other awards.
– After arriving in Russia, they began
to invite you to TV very often. Do
you feel like a celebrity?
– No.
– Why?
– Time has passed. For a month or two
everyone talks about the championship,
and then they forget it – it’s normal. It’s
better not to get used to such attention.
– Not all athletes like to communicate
with journalists, believing that it
takes a lot of time.
– Now we are training on a regular basis,
preparing, keeping in shape, learning
new elements. In our free time, we need
to popularize the sport and therefore
communicate with journalists. Gymnastics
is unpopular, but I want it to be a little
different.
Nikita Nagorny, 22 years old. Born in
Rostov-on-Don. 3-time world champion,
6-time European champion. At the 2019
World Cup, with the Russian national team,
he won the first-ever gold in the world
championship in team all-around discipline.
In 2018, he married world champion
gymnast Daria Spiridonova. He founded
the gymnastics school «Academy of Champions».
Nickname: Leo.
– At the last world championship,
your friend and teammate Arthur Dalaloyan
won the personal all-around.
This year you have gold. How did he
congratulate you?
– We were together all this time. Just
hugged – and that’s it.
– You look alike. Do people often
confuse you?
– We are often confused. Those who
know us personally never confuse, of
34 OLYMPIC RESERVE 4/2019

SPORTS IN PERSON
course. Confused by those who saw us
only on TV.
– Do you feel offended?
– If one of us did not have results, it
would be insulting, but because we both
win medals, we don’t feel offended. In some
situations, we can even play along. Sometimes
it’s suitable to communicate with you,
and it’s unclear who the person is talking
to – with you or Arthur (laughs). This was at
the training camp in China before the World
Cup, when we were interviewed. Only after
half an hour of conversation with me did
they realize that I was not Arthur, but Nikita.
– You said that you could not somehow
get along with Arthur in the same
room, you could stand each other only
one day. Why? You are friends, aren’t
you?
– It’s unclear, we just didn’t get along.
Two leaders cannot live together.
“I CAN NOT LIVE WITH
COMPETITIVE WEIGHT”
– After the World Cup, you and your
spouse, world champion in gymnastics,
Daria Spiridonova, took part in
the Alexei Nemov show “Sports Legends”.
Was it difficult to get together
emotionally after the World Cup when
there is no sports component?
– What difficulties can there be? At the
World Cup, we relieved nervous tension,
and other emotions appeared. At the
show, I received only positive emotions.
– Have you ever performed in a classic
suit before?
– No, but once I was on a show in Mexico
and there I performed on the horizontal
bar in jeans.
– Does it somehow hinder movements,
create discomfort?
– We do not make complex elements.
The most important thing in such shows
is a reasonable approach to performance,
so as not to get injured.
– You said that after Stuttgart you
gained 5 kg in 5 days.
– I cannot live with competitive weight.
For me it is not enough. During the World
Cup, I ate only twice a day. This is not normal
for everyday life.
– Is the muscle energy somehow
preserved if you have only two meals
a day?
– We were preparing four months for
this start, it is impossible to lose all the
energy in one week. It is clear that in the
last days of the competition, the legs
are already failing a bit, the muscles are
clogged, trainings are crazy. But there is
no choice. It’s not because I am don’t eat
enough, it’s just extreme physical activities.
We perform all week.
– Is there any special diet before the
competition?
– I stick to a diet during the competition.
Before the tournament, I have breakfast,
lunch, dinner. But I eat small portions,
and during competitions I restrict myself
to two times – breakfast and dinner.
Water.
Potato with meat or pasta with
Pasta.
Passive or active holiday?
Active.
Who is cooler, Alexey Nemov or
Simone Biles?
In women’s gymnastics – Biles, in men’s
gymnastics – Nemov. If you consider
the awards, then Biles is way ahead
of Alexey Yuryevich, and if we speak
of popularization of the sport in our
country, then this is Alexey Nemov.
Compete in Russia or in another
country?
In Russia there is no audience that
love gymnastics, and even if there is, it
is very small. Abroad, there are many
spectators, it can not be compared.
We need to engage in promotion of
gymnastics in order to get people
interested in competitions.
Vault or crossbar?
(After a pause.) A difficult question for
me. I am an all-round athlete, and I
like all disciplines. But at the moment
there is more interest in the crossbar.
Although it would have been better if I
had more interest in the jump.
SPORTS IN PERSON
– What does your diet look like?
– In the morning I eat porridge with
berries, nuts or cereals and drink cappuccino.
I usually have dinner with pasta,
rice, and seafood. Between breakfast and
dinner, I can eat a low-calorie bar with
coffee.
– Your photo is hanging in Moscow
Olympic College №1 right in front of
the dining room. What was your favorite
school dish?
– I’m used to state food – school, sports
truing camps. The food at the college was
always tasty, always nourishing. I loved all
the dishes.
– Do you manage to supervise it, or
do you have assistants?
– I do everything myself.
– Do you still have time to blog. Do
you also shoot and edit it yourself?
– I shoot it myself, a special person edits
it. I send the material with a definite
task, and he does it for me.
– Was it your idea to have a YouTube
blog?
– Well, yes, why?
– Last year, changes have occurred
in your life. You married Daria. Has this
circumstance somehow positively affected
you emotionally?
– No, nothing has changed. Before
that, we had the same understanding as
now. We lived together, just wanted to
make a holiday for our families, friends
and relatives and officially legalize our relationship.
– You and your wife have one profession
– is that good?
– We are not connected in any way. At
the training camp, we train in different
gyms, we meet only in the evening. Weekends
we spend together. We never talk
about gymnastics at home. Everyone has
his own understanding, attitude. There is
a taboo, we don’t discuss our disciplines,
otherwise we can burn out. There is no
strict prohibition; there is simply no desire
to discuss the same things over and over
again. Sooner or later, one of us will end
doing sport. We all perfectly understand
that career of a gymnast in sports is very
short. If relations are built on sports solely,
then what to do next? Therefore, we are
developing, discussing other topics, and
there are a lot of them.
“I USED TO REFUSE
ADVERTISING ON MY
YOUTUBE CHANNEL,
TODAY I WOULD AGREE”
– You are 22 years and you already
do business?
– The main activity is my school. I
opened the gymnastics club «Academy
of Champions» in the suburbs of Moscow.
I rented a place, equipped it, and now we
train children there.
– Did you yourself open it?
– Myself.
– Does it help you distract from competitions
and trainings, or maybe later
develop into a profession?
– When I started, it was a hobby, an
outlet, and when the YouTube channel
began to gain popularity, I began to
refuse advertising. I made it so that the
viewer could watch, and nothing disturbed
him. Previously, ads constantly
popped up, and YouTube was no different
from the TV. I decided to refuse advertising
because blogging was a hobby. But
over time, I lost interest in this, because
it took a lot of time, and I had to train.
Back then I shot it myself, edited it myself.
When I closed the channel, I received
many letters from kids’ parents. They
wrote that this is the only channel that
they can show the child, because he does
gymnastics. It was interesting to children,
they were motivated. When you read
thousands of messages, you understand
that this blog performs the main goal –
the popularization of gymnastics.
Then I recruited a team – an editor, an
operator, so as not to be distracted and
do sports. I also wanted to find a director,
but then I realized that people like it due
to the fact that I shoot videos myself, and
if I do everything according to the script,
it’s not me who will lead, but the actor. I
just started shooting my life, competitions.
Now I need to keep the operator
and the editor. I used to refuse advertising,
and the advertiser stopped offering it
to me, at some point I even regretted it.
– Now you have no advertising?
– No. Now I wouldn’t refuse it, because
it costs money to maintain a YouTube
channel, I want to go at least to zero. I do
not plan to earn on it.
– You are a graduate of Moscow
Olympic College No. 1. Was it difficult
to combine studies with sports?
– This is the main objective of this educational
establishment: an athlete can
study and do sports in the same place.
– Did you always have desire to
learn?
– One of my acquaintances did not do
any sport, and was too lazy to study. It
is clear that it’s hard to study after training.
There were times when I was falling
asleep, and I had no desire to go to classes,
because there would be one more
training in the evening. But we could not
just leave, we had to be present at the lessons,
at least get some knowledge.
– What can you wish students of
Moscow Olympic College No. 1?
– You always need to set a large-scale
goal. If you are 15 years old, and professional
sport has not yet begun, you must
set yourself the task of getting into major
competitions at your age. Then not just
participate, but win a medal. Do not listen
to those who doubt you. It is important to
always believe in yourself.
SPORTS IN PERSON
WORLD CHAMPION MIKHAIL ZALOMIN:
“LEARNING A SPORT OPENS
UP MANY DETAILS”
NOTE FROM THE OLYMPIC RESERVE:
Mikhail Zalomin – 6-time European champion,
6-time World champion in trampoline
– You are a graduate of Moscow College
of Olympic Reserve No. 1. How
much has it changed since the time you
were a student of the College?
– A lot of things have changed. Starting
from the renovation of the buildings,
which was completed recently, in the
educational part and in dormitories. Everything
has changed, it has become much
more comfortable. Now everything is
done so that all students can feel as comfortable
as possible. As I see, all students
go with laptops to their classes. We didn’t
have that. This is probably a positive
trend. Students study more, learn more,
which will have a positive effect on their
education. I hope so. Everything is done
in order to do both, to train and to study.
– Could you tell us about your main
victory. What comes to your mind?
– For me, all victories are important. I
can not single out any of them. But the
most desired is a victory at my first World
championship in 2013. All the rest are
its confirmation. I thoroughly prepared
for all the championships and it took me
long time to win these victories.
– Is it difficult to combine studies
and professional sport?
– Of course, it’s difficult. If we are talking
about studying at college, everything
is as convenient as possible for the training
process: two trainings a day, classes
from 12 o’clock, that is, for schoolchildren
and students, it is as convenient as possible
while preparing for the competition.
If we talk about studying at the institute
after graduating from college, teachers
try to help them. We sometimes neglect
studies, it happens that we miss workouts.
The main thing is to plan the preparation
process correctly, then there will be
no problems in the training process.
– In one of your old interviews, you
mentioned that you spend your free
time, which you don’t have much,
40 OLYMPIC RESERVE 4/2019

SPORTS IN PERSON
mostly with friends. What are you doing
now when you have some free
time?
– Since then, a family has appeared.
Now I spend all my free time with my
family. Of course, I meet with friends. But
mostly – family, daughter, wife.
– Your wife Daria is a master of
sports of international class in trampoline.
Isn’t it hard for two athletes under
one roof?
– It only for the better, because I can
consult with my wife on some issues of
doing the exercises. This, on the contrary,
only brings us together: there are common
topics, we are moving and thinking
in one direction. This also helps in raising
our daughter. My wife, just like me, works
as a trampoline coach.
– You are a trampolinist with great
experience. How many changes have
occurred in your sport recently?
– From the moment I came to trampoline,
a lot has changed. After each Olympiad,
the International Gymnastics Federation
is trying to improve the rules and
introduce more objective assessments
for fair refereeing. This applies to all disciplines
of our sport. Firms producing shells
design them in such a way that they contribute
to the complexity of the elements,
that is, they make the nets more “pushy”
and complicate spring properties.
– Since 2016, you have been the
president of the Moscow Trampoline
Federation. What are the main steps
you need to take to develop this sport?
– Promoting trampoline as much as
possible, like all other sports. Advertising
is needed. Some things turn out successful,
others not.
– How do you think can we make
young athletes get interested in this
kind of sport?
– Now many commercial trampoline
centers are opened throughout Russia.
They get to know trampoline better.
Trampoline centers, trampoline clubs –
they attract people to professional sports.
– But initially they are considered as
entertainment.
– Undoubtedly, somewhere it is. And
somewhere, coaches lead children and
adults specifically to professional sports:
to participate in competitions, to receive
ranks. There is a gradual familiarization
with the sport. Trampoline is not just an
entertainment, it is a serious sport. In general,
the prospects are good.
– Among other things, you are a
judge of the 1st category and take part
in refereeing of Moscow and All-Russian
competitions. What is most difficult
in refereeing?
– It is very difficult to record in short
time all the elements that an athlete performs.
Everything comes with experience.
It is difficult to judge objectively because
of attitude to a particular athlete. To do
this, you need to involve in refereeing
as many independent people as possible
who do not have an athlete from the
same region or country. Perhaps some
day judging will switch to a computer
system, but, I think, this will not happen
soon.
– What are your plans for the near
future, and are there any big goals?
– There are big goals, but I will not say
about them, with your permission. Now I
enjoy the fact that I am still an active athlete.
I want to stay in this sport as long as
possible and just enjoy my work.
– What would you advise young athletes,
including children studying at
the College of Olympic Reserve No. 1?
– Study. Learn. Receive not only school
and college education. Go deep into the
sport you practice. This will open your
eyes to many details. The results in the
work will improve if you yourself want to
know everything.
HONORED RUSSIAN COACH
VLADIMIR GORINOV:
“ABLE-BODIED SPORTSMEN STRONGLY
SUPPORT THOSE WITH A HEARING
IMPAIRMENT”
R
ussian team won 31 gold medals in the European freestyle and Greco-Roman
wrestling championship among sportsmen with a hearing impairment in Gomel,
Belarus. We discussed the results of the tournament with the Russian senior coach
for Greco-Roman wrestling among hard-of-hearing sportsmen Vladimir Gorinov.
– We performed more than successfully.
Top coaches have been
working with the athletes. We
showed better results than we did
last time. We held the championship
in Vladimir last year. We won 8 gold
medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals
in Greco-Roman wrestling, which
were prerequisites for the future success,
– started Gorinov.
– What were your winning goals?
– I don’t like to make the expectations
public. Aleksey Shevtsov, a winner of the
European championship and Aleksey
Glushkov, graduate of Olympic Reserve
42 OLYMPIC RESERVE 4/2019

SPORTS IN PERSON
College №1 are on the staff. Aleksey
Glushkov is a Principal of one of the leading
Moscow schools «Sparta». He joined
us 9 years ago as a coach of the Moscow
Region team. This is how coaches and
athletes advance with us. We had a game
among the coaches where everyone predicted
the results of their teams. I would
take the sheets to the tournaments and
we compared them after. Wrestling is
one of the most subjective kinds of sport.
You should be way ahead of others.
– Wrestling tournaments are quite
emotional. Sometimes it’s more than
just a verbal argument, spectators get
involved in physical abuse. Is it different
during the tournaments for hardof-hearing
athletes?
– It happens in places where the security
work is poorly managed. People with
a hearing impairment don’t express their
emotions loudly. All the emotions are in
mimicry and gestures. Everything is calm
and quite.
– Are athletes with a hearing impairment
judged differently?
– Seconds aren’t allowed to give a verbal
command. Some gestures are added.
The same happens in volleyball and football.
If a referee stops a game he should
explain the reasons for that.
– How is the sparring stopped?
– By touching a shoulder. Exceeding
the competition area, twisting fingers,
unitards – are all forbidden. These are
common gestures not only for athletes
with a hearing impairment.
– Athletes with a hearing impairment
are usually trained by able-bodied
coaches. How long does it take to
master sign language?
– It depends on a person and how fast
he wants to be understood. Also it depends
on an athlete. Sometimes it happens
that they look away. If he doesn’t
like you or is humiliated and pressured
by you he just turns his back on you.
– How long does it take to learn the
sign language in case of mutual understanding?
– It’s like the English language. In Soviet
times we’d been learning it since the
5th grade but at the end nobody was
fluent at it. Motivation and practice are
needed. It’s not complicated.
– Who is your audience? Where do
they learn about your competitions?
– People with a hearing impairment
have a great announcement they pass
round. The information goes through
the hearing loss communities, places
they work in and remedial schools.
– Do able-bodied come?
– Yes, they do. Some of them come
to support their relatives. These are the
ones who shout. It’s been highlighted
by the mass media, also there is online
broadcasting, sign language interpretation
and news ticker.
– How are sports among those with
a hearing impairment promoted these
days in Russia?
– It hinges on the enthusiasm of some
coaches and managers. Not all the regions
are involved. There isn’t enough
funding. Sport itself is the best tool for
rehabilitation. They’ve been training
with able-bodied athletes from the very
childhood and are strongly supported
by them – it’s priceless.
– What are the forthcoming and
long-term goals?
– Participation in all-Russian competitions.
According to the results of
Championship of Russia athletes will be
chosen for participation in World Championship
in Turkey from 1st to 10th of
June.
David Vladimirovich allows us to conduct
the full workout. A big team of professionals
is working here. As it’s said «
It’s the retinue that makes the king, but
the king chooses the retinue. »
Everything is well arranged – qualified
specialists , food, accommodation.
Everyone has one aim – to make the conditions
for athletes better. I cannot name
any other institution where so many
transformations are being made to improve
the life quality of sportsmen.
Vladimir Gorivon is a merited master
t is known that human health
is determined by multiple internal
and external factors,
and it is the body under conditions
when absence of diseases is combined
with physical, mental and social wellbeing.
Health care around the world is
a priority. High morbidity, poor ecology,
difficult social situation and other
negative factors require developing an
integrated system of improving children’s
health. Health saving of children
is the main condition and indicator of
personality-oriented education, as well
as one of the main tasks of the education
system. It is especially important
to create conditions that ensure physical
and mental health of the child.
Modernization of preschool education
allows us to search for new forms of
health-improving work with children
in various types of educational institutions.
The basis for the tasks of physical development
is the conceptual integration
around the theme of “healthy lifestyle”
(HLS). There are many interpretations of
it. The Medical Encyclopedia gives its definition:
it is a rational lifestyle, an integral
feature of which is active work aimed at
improving and maintaining health. In literature
problems of human health, sociological
problems and psychophysiological aspects
HEALTH SAVING OF CHILDREN IS THE MAIN CONDITION AND
INDICATOR OF PERSONALITY-ORIENTED EDUCATION, AS WELL AS
ONE OF THE MAIN TASKS OF THE EDUCATION SYSTEM.
IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO CREATE CONDITIONS THAT ENSURE
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF THE CHILD.
MODERNIZATION OF PRESCHOOL EDUCATION ALLOWS
US TO SEARCH FOR NEW FORMS OF HEALTH-IMPROVING
WORK WITH CHILDREN IN VARIOUS TYPES
OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.
Moreover, under the basics of
healthy lifestyles of a preschool child
scientists understand a set of measures:
correctly organized motor activity; rational
hardening; optimal daily routine;
balanced diet; satisfactory psychological
climate in the family and kindergarten;
life safety.
All work on healthy lifestyle can be divided
into two components:
• formation of healthy lifestyle during
valeological education, including
study and developing personal body
and hygienic skills; teaching preschoolers
life safety;
• creation of conditions under which
physical education, physical activity
become powerful stimulating factors
in the formation of health resources in
the process of intellectual and emotional
development of a child through
his/her active inclusion in the system
of physical exercises.
These components are reflected in
the following programs (Table 1).
We suggest the following health saving
technologies which make it possible
to realize both components:
1. Specially selected physical exercises
in all forms of physical fitness work;
2. Integration of physical exercises
and methods of health saving in other
regimen moments;
3. Additional means to ensure a
healthy rhythm of life and various types
of motor activity of pupils.
The development of these mechanisms
is facilitated by other technologies
which can be used in methodological
practice of the kindergarten. Case study
method – situation analysis. Educators
and health-care specialists (in particular,
medical personnel and physical education
educators at a preschool institution)
participate in a direct discussion of pedagogical
situations and tasks taken from
real practice of health-saving activities in
a Nursery School.
The project method supposes that
the activities of educators and specialists
of the Nursery School would have a
designed character, which implies the
receipt of a specific (practical) result and
its public presentation (product presentation).
When planning the content of the
educational field in accordance with the
above programs, it is necessary to take
into account the level of development
of the children and to formulate tasks
related to certain competencies for the
pupils to develop (Table 2).
These tasks are solved in the process
of joint activities of teachers and pupils,
communication and games of preschoolers
among themselves and in the
process of interaction between children
and parents.
As you know, among all programs of
preschool education, parents give pref-
erence to preparing a child for school. At
the same time, they forget that the intellectual
development of the child directly
depends on the physical and mental
health of the child. Meanwhile, it is no
secret that the popularity of a Preschool
Institution today depends on how much
it can satisfy the needs of parents. Therefore,
organization of joint parent-child
activities contributes to an increase of
interest in healthy lifestyle. They can be
sports leisure, holidays, going out to nature,
creation of clubs like “I want to be
healthy” or “Fitness in kindergarten” and
“Aerobics” programs, when joint physical
education classes for children and
parents are accompanied by musical
accompaniment under the guidance of
specialists. Work in such clubs creates
the atmosphere of goodwill, ease and
at the same time encourages both children
and adults to perform movements
correctly and efficiently. As a result, the
adaptive capabilities of the preschooler
and his resistance to external influences
increase, the necessary motor skills and
physical qualities are acquired, the per-
3. To form an initial idea
of a healthy lifestyle
The child can absorb learned movements, their
elements with motivation and organizing help
of an adult. Morbidity throughout the year varies.
A child can attract the attention of an adult
in case of malaise and poor health.
The child independently and correctly performs
the processes of washing and washing
hands. Helps the adult in organizing the nutrition
process. He dresses and undresses independently,
takes care of things for personal
use. The actions of the child require a little
correction and reminder from the adult.
The child is familiar with the concepts
“Health”, “disease”.
With the help of an adult, he can name some
concepts of healthy lifestyle.
Has an idea of the benefits of morning
exercises and exercise. However, the child’s
knowledge may differ from the desire to put it
into practice.
The child has a positive attitude towards motor actions, trying
to show independence and initiative in motor activity,
shows interest in sports. Morbidity throughout the year varies
greatly. The child is upset about the deterioration in the
health of his and others.
The child can perform all the activities related to the organization
of self-care, but it requires a reminder from the adult.
The child demonstrates incomplete and insufficiently systematized
ideas about healthy lifestyles and rational nutrition;
he cannot join the conversation about the meaning of physical
activity in a person’s life and give examples from his life. He
has an understanding of the rules and types of hardening, the
use of hardening procedures and the role of natural remedies
in human health, but does not always apply them in life, since
he does not consider them to be a value for himself.
sonality as a whole is formed. This means
that the problem of protecting and
strengthening pupils’ health in a modern
kindergarten can be solved in terms of
the interaction of parents and teachers.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
FOR STUDENTS WITH THE DISEASE
«VEGETOVASCULAR DYSTONIA»
Author: T. Kryukova,
Head of the Department of Physical Education, Diplomatic Academy
of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, international master of sports
• Abstract: the article discusses the features of physical education
for students with the disease “vegetovascular dystonia” and gives
recommendations on the use of physical activity during vegetovascular
dystonia in the conditions of study at a university.
• Key words: students, vegetovascular dystonia (VVD), physical activity,
self-control, individual approach.
R
elevance Vegetovascular dystonia
(VVD) is a malfunction breach in the
work of the whole organism, which
can turn into a disease. VVD is characterized
by disturbances in the functioning of the autonomic
nervous system, in regulating dynamic
constancy of the internal environment of the
body and stability of its basic physiological functions:
respiration, blood circulation, digestion,
thermoregulation, metabolism, excretion, reproduction,
etc. Today, with the diagnosis of vegetovascular
dystonia «doctors described about
150 symptoms and 32 syndromes of clinical disorders,
so it is very difficult to diagnose VVD. For
a student stressful situations arise throughout
the entire period of study and may be caused
by lack of time, emotional stress during sessions,
etc. Constant stress is a factor in the development
of dystonia. One of the causes VVD occurs
in a modern student is also lack of motor activity.
It is necessary to treat VVD, since this disease is
the most common and unpredictable disease of
the younger generation in its manifestations and
outcomes.
EDUCATION CLASSES WITH THE CORRECT
ORGANIZATION OF THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS,
CLOSE WORK OF THE TEACHER WITH
THE DOCTOR AND AN INDIVIDUAL
APPROACH ARE RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENTS
WITH THE DISEASE “VEGETOVASCULAR DYSTONIA”
AND ARE NOT ONLY MANDATORY ACCORDING
TO THE UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM,
BUT ALSO DESIRABLE FOR THERAPEUTIC
AND PREVENTIVE PURPOSES.
T. KRYUKOVA
Upon receipt of a special physical activity, the
symptoms of the VVD disappear. Training increases
tolerance to physical activity, distracts from the
disease, strengthens the nervous system and improves
capacity for work.
In the treatment of VVD, non-drug methods
of treatment are preferred. This is the observance
of the regime of the day, diet, therapeutic
massage and baths, herbal medicine, psychotherapy,
auto-training, walking, contrast shower,
morning exercises (taking into account the type
of VVD). For students of all types of VVD physical
activity is recommended taking into account
their specificity.
The dosed use of physical exercises in the
classes balances the processes of excitation and
inhibition in the central nervous system, increases
its regulatory role in coordinating the activities of
the most important organs and systems involved
in the pathological process, has a normalizing
effect on vascular activity, increases myocardial
contractility, normalizes lipid metabolism and
develops compensatory-adaptive reactions, increases
the body’s adaptation to the environment
and external stimuli.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
DURING VVD
The use of various types of physical activity
and the cultivation of various sports, of course,
depends on the decision of the physical education
department leadership in the university,
and the capabilities of higher educational institutions,
but it should be borne in mind that
58 OLYMPIC RESERVE 4/2019

SPORTS, PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SCIENCE
swimming, aqua aerobics, dosed walking, skiing
are recommended for students with VVD they
are those sports where you can get a fairly long
and uniform load. When practicing on simulators,
it is advisable to use a treadmill, bicycle ergometer,
stepper, rowing machine. In this case
the movements of some cyclic sports are imitated
and loading can be controlled by its effect
on the body and properly dosed. VVD relaxation
gymnastics is very helpful. Game sports are
good if they are held outdoors, not for the sake
of result, but for pleasure, which contributes to
psycho-emotional discharge and has a general
strengthening effect on the body. As a result of
physical education training sessions blood pressure
stabilizes, dependence on weather disappears,
health and well-being improve.
The exercises on simulators are contraindicated,
where the head is below the level of the chest
and the exercises are performed upside down,
due to the danger of fainting, worsening wellbeing.
Martial arts, strength gymnastics, aerobics
are not recommended, as exercises with a large
amplitude of movement of the head and body,
sharply and quickly performed movements, exercises
with long static effort should be avoided.
Swing, running, jumping exercises, turns around
its axis, breath holding exercises are not recommended.
Physical education will be effective if it delivers
only positive emotions and pleasure from classes.
You should not experience excessive fatigue, discomfort,
irritability.
Serious competitions are not recommended.
It is necessary to constantly monitor (pulse,
respiratory rate, external signs of fatigue) exercise
tolerance by those involved. It is advisable
to keep a diary of self-control, in it to record the
pulse, respiratory rate and subjective indicators
of tolerance of loads. The main control criterion is
well-being.
Basically, physical education classes are conducted
by the group method which is just recommended
for students with VVD disease. Students
of all groups and courses with a diagnosis of VVD
and a special medical group are invited to attend
classes of a special medical group or, having a
preparatory health group as a result of a physical
examination, remain part of their academic
group in physical education classes. Therefore it
should be borne in mind that the study group
may include students with VVD, that usually students
with VVD make up about half of the special
medical group, which, depending on the conditions
of the university, cannot always be divided
by disease.
It should also be taken into account that three
types of VVD are distinguished depending on
the reaction of the cardiovascular system. The
cardiac type is expressed by complaints of palpitations,
interruptions in the work of the heart,
a feeling of lack of air, a change in heart rate. Hypertensive
type – there is an increase in blood
pressure (systolic over 140 mmHg), the pressure
quickly returns to normal, but complaints
may occur about headache, palpitations, and
fatigue. With the hypotensive type, the systolic
blood pressure indicator decreases – below 100
mm Hg. Art. Increased fatigue, headache, muscle
weakness, pallor, chilliness, limbs become colder.
Fainting is frequent.
In its pure form, these types of VVD are rare.
Often, cardiac-hypertensive and cardiac-hypotensive
types develop. Therefore, an individual
approach is very important. The intensity and
volume of classes are planned depending on the
general physical preparation, on the student’s
well-being, the use of the above-mentioned
undesirable exercises and movements is not
planned. Be sure to take into account the health
group indicated by the doctor of the clinic (with
VVD, the health group according to the medical
certificate from the doctor can be the main, preparatory,
special), and the type of VVD.
I would like to note that according to the curricula
of most universities, students attend physical
education classes twice a week. This is good,
but not effective enough for the appearance of
positive changes in well-being, in particular with
VVD. Therefore it is desirable that the teacher
motivates students, using the skills and knowledge
acquired in physical education classes, to
engage in physical exercises on their own daily
using various forms of physical activity such as
morning exercises, jogging, classes in a sports
club, etc.
Thus physical education classes with the correct
organization of the educational process,
close work of the teacher with the doctor and an
individual approach are recommended for students
with the disease “vegetovascular dystonia”
and are not only mandatory according to the
university curriculum, but also desirable for therapeutic
and preventive purposes.
period. On how quickly an athlete is able to
recover his physical, emotional and mental state
depends. Depending on the level of the functional
state of the body and the athlete’s qualifications,
recovery processes take place at different
stages at different speeds. Sky Team Christophersson,
head of the American women’s cycling
team, said:
“At this level of skill, everyone trains hard, the
whole question is how you recover.”
Studying in college, students study different
sports and, accordingly, experience stress that is
not typical for them which allows us to evaluate
the effectiveness of recovery processes.
RECOVERY PROCESSES ARE AN INTEGRAL
PART OF PREPARING AN ATHLETE FOR THE UPCOMING LOADS
IN THE TRAINING AND COMPETITION PERIOD.
ON HOW QUICKLY AN ATHLETE IS ABLE
TO RECOVER HIS PHYSICAL,
EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL STATE DEPENDS.
The aim of the work is to assess the impact of
the training load of various kinds on the recovery
processes of young third-year martial arts athletes
in fitness and football classes using the hardwaresoftware
complex «AMSAT-COVERT». During the
research period we selected third-year students
of Group 302 in the amount of 20 young men
aged 18 to 19 who regularly attend classes. At the
time of the study all the subjects were healthy.
The study involved athletes in the following
sports: karate, judo, sambo, combat sambo, boxing,
mixed martial arts, powerlifting, workout,
swimming, taekwondo, and had the following
sports categories, which are shown in Figure 1.
To achieve this goal, objective testing methods
were used: assessment of the functional state of
the body using the hardware-software complex
«AMSAT-COVERT», the test «Index Roufier».
The study was carried out in two stages: the
first stage – in November 2017; the second – in
February 2018. At the first stage, testing was conducted
on the discipline «Fitness Technology»,
when students studied power aerobics, and on
football they simultaneously underwent technical
and tactical training of football players. At the
second stage, students studied Pilates in fitness,
and in football classes – physical training of football
players.
Functional testing using the hardware-software
complex «AMSAT-COVERT», consisted of
three dimensions: before the lesson, after the
main part of the lesson, 15–20 minutes after the
lesson.
The Rufier Index test was carried out in a special
way: the pulse was measured in a sitting position,
then 30 deep squats were performed for 45
seconds, and the standing pulse was immediately
calculated, and then after a minute of rest.
Table 1 shows the dynamics of the arithmetic
data of the primary testing conducted using the
AMSAT-COVERT in the fitness and football classes.
The quantitative indicator “Level of health”
on both fitness and football was 44 and 46%,
respectively, “Level of health” is within the physiological
norm.
The indicator “Type of working capacity” on fitness
was 6.6%. At this time, students had strength
classes, so a significant increase in working capacity
was noticed. On football, the positive indicator
was 1.7%, and the negative indicator was – 8%.
Moreover, negative performance is observed in
athletes with a sports category not lower than
the first, therefore, the load used is insufficient for
qualified athletes.
The analysis of the “Kind of Recovery” indicator
showed that during the initial testing on fitness,
the indicator was 4.7%, the students had strength
classes, so the recovery processes were more intense.
On football, the positive indicator of the
“Type of Recovery” was 3%, and the negative indicator
was – 3.3%.
Table 2 presents the dynamics of indicators of
the secondary testing conducted using the AM-
CAT-COVERT in the fitness and football classes.
The quantitative indicator “Health Level” in the
secondary testing both on fitness and on football
was 47 and 42.1%, which corresponds to the physiological
norm.
An analysis of the dynamics of the “Kind of
working capacity” indicators showed that when
re-testing on fitness, the positive indicator was
4.4%, and the negative indicator was – 3.2%. At
this time students studied Pilates which is static in
nature, so a negative result appeared, therefore, in
these classes; the load does not reach the optimal
for students. On football, the positive indicator
was 2.9%, and the negative indicator was – 2.4%,
therefore, the physical load used is insufficient for
qualified athletes.
Analyzing the dynamics of the indicators of
the “Type of recovery”, we saw that with repeated
testing on fitness, the positive indicator was
2.2%, and the negative indicator was – 1.7%.
During this period, the students studied Pilates,
so a negative result appeared, therefore,
the recovery processes are not enough compared
to the initial test. In football lessons, the
positive indicator was 0.9%, and the negative
indicator was – 5.2%. Due to the insufficient
physical load in football, the recovery processes
are insufficient.
Table 3 presents the dynamics of the primary
testing indicators of the “Rufier Index” without using
the AMCAT-COVERT in the fitness and football
classes.
Analyzing the dynamics of the average indicator
of the “Rufier Index” test it was found
that, compared with the initial testing, it was
improved by 0.3 y. e. – this is a slight positive
trend.
Comparing the results of primary and secondary
testing using the “AMSAT-COVERT” and “Rufier
Index” we revealed the following features.
In the second half of the year when students
learn Pilates in fitness classes, aerobic loads
should be used due to increased physical activity
in classes of «fitness technology» discipline.
In football lessons the physical load intensity
should be increased since the body of qualified
athletes is adapted for the load of higher intensity;
and the load should be differentiated for each
student.
Due to the fact that during the school year the
recovery processes of the body of student athletes
undergo minor improvements, we can say
that students are at the peak of their functional
form and in general the classes are methodically
competently structured in the disciplines of “fitness
• Abstract: We conducted a study to determine the effectiveness of the
implemented distance learning systems for athletes, to identify the advantages
and disadvantages and ways to solve them to increase the efficiency of
education. E-learning is becoming more popular among the leading universities
in the country, so this subject-matter is becoming one of the most important and
requires careful and more detailed consideration.
he relevance of research. To
date, the introduction of information
tools and means has affected
education. There is a lot of discussion
and debate on this innovation. It is important
that the virtual educational environment
would be used with benefit for
all students, both for ordinary students
and for sports students. Educational institutions
should conduct the process of
teaching students in a quality manner,
therefore, e-learning should be useful,
this point will be given our attention in
the research process [1, 2].
The purpose of the study is to determine
the effectiveness of virtual educational
environment systems for athletes
studying outside the institution, for
those who are at training sessions or
competitions.
Methodology and organization of
research. In the process of a sociological
study, a questionnaire survey method is
used to determine the effectiveness of
the distance learning environment for
students of higher educational institutions.
The questionnaire through the
Google online service consisted of 22
questions. The study was conducted in
Moscow on the basis of 2 universities
and 1 school: Russian State Social University
(RSSU); Russian State University
of Physical Culture, Sports, Youth and
Tourism (GTSOLIFK) and Moscow Secondary
Specialized School of Olympic
Reserve No. 1 (MSSUOR No. 1).
Subjects. During the study 100 athletes
trainees in educational institutions
on the “moodle” and “Hyper Method”
platforms were interviewed, with emphasis
on 2 universities and 1 Secondary
Specialized School.
The results of the study.
We interviewed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th
year athletes.
The survey was attended by: 1st year
students – 51%; 2nd year – 27%, while
3rd year athletes – 15%, and 4th year
students – 7%.
At the same time, the bulk of the respondents
study: full-time – 84%, and
extramural – 16%.
When processing data on the question
“Do you use capabilities of the Internet
in the educational process?” We received
the following answer: 96% of athletes use
the Internet for learning and 4% do not.
To the request “Describe the quality of
the Internet at the university,” all athletes
generally said that they were satisfied
with the level of the Internet resource
service.
When answering the question “Are
technical means (e-learning) necessary
in higher education institutions?” Opinions
were divided.
61% of respondents believe that e-
learning makes life easier for athletes in
universities since training sessions and
competitions make them unable to fully
attend classes. And with the introduction
of this system athletes can learn
and do tasks without interruption from
the competitive process. But at the same
time 24% believe that e-learning will reduce
the level of knowledge of athletes
due to the lack of a teacher-student
dialogue; 13% believe that e-learning
makes it possible to learn from anywhere
in the world and benefits not only athletes
but other students who due to life
circumstances (disability) cannot study
full-time; and 2% believe that e-learning
is beneficial only to people of retirement
age and working citizens who do not
have time to attend university.
To the question “How do you feel
about the DLE system (Distance Learning
Environment system)?” 53% said
they were positive, 24% of respondents
were indifferent to this system, 14% of
athletes were negative and 9% of respondents
scared e-learning.
Discussion of the results of the
study.
When answering the question “In
general, the DLE system rationally evaluates
student knowledge?” opinions of
the athletes were divided.
54% of athletes generally approve of
the e-learning system, and believe that
it contributes to the university education,
but 46% of respondents do not
like the system and believe that it is not
fully completed and improvements are
needed.
When answering the question “Does
the DLE system need to be improved?”
89% of the athletes answered “yes”, and
46% said “no”.
To the question “What suggestions
can you put forward to improve the DLE
system?” A large number of proposals
were received, the most popular were to:
1. Make the work more stable; develop
an understandable design for easier
navigation of the site for the average
user;
2. Organize training courses that will
teach how to use this system;
3. Develop a mobile application of
DLE, improving the interaction of the
student with the teacher;
4. Offer more electronic textbooks to
improve the flow of information and updating
material in the system.
In general this system in universities is
Fig. 2. Are technical tools
and means (e-learning)
needed in higher education?
Yes, they make learning easier
No, with the full transition to e-learning, the level of
knowledge of students will decrease
No, e-learning benefits retirees, youth harms
Yes, you can study anywhere in the world and at any
convenient time.
Fig. 3. In general, the DLE system
(Distance Learning Environment)
rationally evaluates student knowledge?
Yes
being modernized and every year there
will be less problematic issues. And athletes
will be able to complete tasks without
difficulty.
Conclusions. The e-learning system
in modern realities clearly positively affects
the process of training athletes.
Especially the e-learning system has a
positive effect on athletes: due to competitions
and trainings sessions, athletes
cannot attend lectures and seminars at
universities. With the transition to online
technologies in the educational process,
in particular, and the introduction of distance
learning systems (e-learning) in
the interval between competitions and
training sessions athletes can perform
tasks stipulated by the course and subject
and send them to the teacher for
verification. It would save a lot of energy,
time and money.
Emergency Situations.
The organizers of the action had already hit the
Russian Book of Records, after the largest Russian tricolor
was deployed in the Arctic on drifting ice, in the air near
Zvenigorod, and also on the ice of Lake Baikal. In the future,
the largest state flag is planned to be deployed in Antarctica.
ANTARCTICA
The sixth continent was discovered
by Russian researchers in 1820, the
Vostok and Mirny ships, commanded by
Thaddeus Bellingshausen and Mikhail
Lazarev, approached Antarctica, but
the researchers did not land ashore due
to severe weather conditions. This is a
beautiful and harsh land, on which record
frosts are recorded, strong winds blow
and funny birds, penguins, live. There
are no permanent residents. In the warm
season several thousand scientists and
tourists come here, in cold weather the
population of the mainland does not
exceed one thousand people.
Introducing interesting facts about
Antarctica.
Antarctica was not always covered
with ice, probably in the distant past it
had lush vegetation and rich wildlife.
Despite the fact that there are few ice-free
territories (the ice shell covers 98 percent of
the mainland) scientists managed to find
the remains of four dinosaurs.
There are dry valleys on the mainland
in which there is no snow and ice on the
surface. Strong winds blow away all the
snow; under the influence of hurricanes
that reach a speed of 320 kilometers per
hour all the moisture evaporates.
It was in this place that we unveiled the
flag of the School of Olympic Reserve No.
