EUROSHOP 2020

THE WORLDS LARGEST RETAIL EXHIBITION RETURNS

EuroShop, the World’s largest Retail

Trade Fair, is a must-see fixture for

the retail world.

From 16 to 20 February,

Düsseldorf, it will bring together

around 2,300 exhibitors from over

60 countries with 114,000 trade

visitors expected from throughout

the world. It is not only an

indispensable information platform, trend

hotspot and network for retail professionals

but it also intensely impacts many other areas

and sectors, delivers innovative blueprints

and addresses urgent themes of relevance to

the future such as digitalisation, robotics and

sustainability.

EuroShop’s eight Experience Dimensions

cover retailers’ complete investment needs,

provide inspirations galore and deliver

answers to decisive questions that all retailers

wanting to remain competitive have to ask

themselves.

What functions do shops or stores have to

perform today? Serve as experience places

and points of identification? Feel-good

locations? A Third Place? Pop-up

marketplaces? What do they have to look or

feel like? Creative and hands-on answers

come care of the Shop Fitting & Store

Design Dimension.

The Retail Technology Dimension presents all

things surprising, enthusing, stimulating and

takes you to the next level. Augmented

Reality, Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence,

Internet-of-Things, Smart Store, Customer

Engagement, Mobile Payment and Cloudbased

Services are the dominating themes in

this Dimension.

Retail Marketing is the point of interest for

“digital creatives”. Customer engagement &

experience, brand experiences in physical and

digital stores, personalisation via mobile

devices, artificial intelligence, digital signage.

The Retail Marketing Dimension at EuroShop

2020 awaits trade visitors with the complete

spectrum of ever more in-depth and digital

shopper interaction.

The lighting community plays a major part at

EuroShop, too. Light plays a pivotal role when

experience and staging, fascination and

atmosphere come into play. Its versatile

technical applications ranging from smart

lighting to the IoT in conjunction with such

ecological aspects as sustainability and

efficiency will be on show at

the Lighting Dimension.

Storytelling – this is

what Visual

Merchandising is all

about – both as an

analogue experience

space and as a digital

platform. Eurohop’s

Dimension of the same name shows how to

perfectly stage them, fascinate and wow

shoppers with either walk-in stores or

augmented reality, as pop-up or digital stores.

More and more supermarkets and also

fashion stores draw their shoppers in with

food services. This is why catering in retail is a

“hot ticket” and will be given its own Food

Service Equipment Dimension for the first

time at EuroShop 2020. Here the menu will

feature everything from fast food to Michelin

star cuisine.

In the Refrigeration & Energy

Management Dimension what belongs

together will finally grow together: ecology and

economy. Digital transformation and building

automation, IoT and AI, efficiency and staging.

UNIBOX AT EUROSHOP 2020

REVOLUTIONARY NEW MERCHANDISING

SYSTEM FOR UK FOOTWEAR GIANT, SCHUH

With over 130 stores, schuh is one of the UK’s largest footwear retailers

and is hugely popular amongst younger shoppers, baby-boomers, athletes

and fashionistas alike.

In 2019, schuh’s team of Visual Merchandisers worked in partnership with

Unibox and Briggs Hillier Design to create a ground-breaking product

display system that would sit at the core of their expansion efforts during

the decade ahead. Titled schuhTwentyTwenty, the objective was to

completely revise the brand’s existing store format to attract a greater

number of ‘Gen-Z’ customers by offering a futuristic shopping environment

and facilitating key product activations.

The installation impresses visually thanks to a unique combination of

goalpost-like archways which run from the entrance of a store through to

the rear and clean, striking shards of light which punctuate the entire

space. Moreover, its linear architecture intuitively guides shoppers from

one product display to another before leaving them at one of the paypoints

dotted throughout.

Unibox, the manufacturer responsible for realising schuh’s vision, will be

demonstrating the TwentyTwenty system at this year’s EuroShop. Find their

team in the Designer’s Village – Hall 12, stands A17-19.

PROPABILITY RECREATE FROZEN II

ARENDELLE CASTLE AT HAMLEYS

MEMBER NEWS

For the sequel to the Disney blockbuster Frozen, Hamleys commissioned

Propability to bring Frozen II to life in store to support with merchandise

sales. An entire Frozen area measuring 15m by 7m recreates scenes from

the film as the adventures continue for Arendelle's magical Queen Elsa,

her sister, Anna and everyone's favourite snowman, Olaf.

An incredible immersive environment was designed and constructed by

Propability with the castle from the film reconstructed by building a huge

section of the entrance to the castle together with turrets either side. The

Castle fixture measures 10m wide x 3.2 m tall x 12m deep and was

built at the Propability workshop before being transported and rebuilt in

sections in store.

It took 6 weeks to make using a variety of different skills and craftsmen

from carpenters to sculptors, metal workers and scenic painters. With only

two nights to install the whole area all components were prepared as

much as possible, including dressing the tree ahead of delivery to the

store.

The castle was created in MDF and timber and clad with fire rated

polystyrene, sculpted and coated in Jesmonite to give it a stone look and

feel which was further enhanced by applying specialist scenically painted

techniques. There are both exterior and interior walls recreating the actual

castle in the film in as much detail as possible.

The perimeter wall bays within the castle walls were dressed to resemble

the interior of the castle in the film with headers created especially to hold

graphics. This was all created in fire rated MDF and textured to either look

like stone or wood. Scenic painted treatments further accentuated the

textures. Gold leaf was also used on parts of the columns to give the area

a more regal look.

A phenomenal fixture and immersive retail environment that brings the

products off the shelf to support merchandise sales as Frozen II comes to

life in store for all fans!

The wall bays to the Frozen area also mimic the same style with vinyl wall

graphics along with two fountain cake stand fixtures for Frozen plush

merchandise to be displayed. These fixtures were made from fire rated

MDF, textured and scenically painted to replicate verdigris finish on the

fountains in the film.

The front archway of the castle has a large Frozen II logo sign overhead

along with low level walls with two bespoke lamp posts as banner holders

on either side. Flickering effect lights complete the scene which were

made out of steel tube and laser cut steel.

Within the walls of the castle stands a tall tree with over 130 faux

autumnal branches it was dressed in thousands of leaves supplied by

Propability sister company Flourish Trading. The tree was sculpted and

sheathed in fire rated fibreglass and scenically painted. Hidden within the

tree is an impressive mild steel structure which holds all eight large

branches. Each branch holds 25 stems of autumnal leaves each stem

holding hundreds of leaves. The tree took over 2 days to dress.
