Outsiders Graphic Novel 2019

ccoblake72

The 7th Graders at Falls Lake

Academy had to create three pages

of a graphic novel from the this much

loved novel. They were allowed to

either pick a section of the book, an

event, or a summary.

These creations not only capture a

visual snapshot of the story, they show

student comprehension of the text

they have read. Enjoy!

The Outsiders

Author: S.E Hinton

Illustrated by: Madison Oakley

What part of the story does your graphic novel depict?

The book I am reading is the Outsiders. I chose the

fountain scene that is in chapter 4. This scene is the scene

where Johnny kills Bob. Bob was holding Ponyboy underwater in

the fountain so he could not breathe. Johnny kicked the Soc

that was on his back off and stabbed Bob and killed him, but in

my opinion, it was self-defense.

⛲ Why did you pick this particular content?

I picked the fountain scene because I feel it is a big part

of the book. Sweet, innocent Johnny killed someone to save

Ponyboy. I think that shows that they are true friends and

always have each other’s back.

⛲ What did you learn while completing this project? (This could include

tech stuff as well as things you noticed as you changed words into

images.)

backgrounds and make thought bubbles.

1.) What part of the story does your graphic novel depict?

My graphic novel depicts the part of when they were in the hospital with Johnny and Darry, but Soda and Dally were their with

Ponyboy as he was getting interviewed.

2.) Why did you choose this particular content?

I choose this content because this scene was interesting to me and I thought that people would like it.

3.) What did you learn while completing this project? (This could include tech stuff as well as things you noticed

as you changed words into images)

I learned that Google has an app called google drawings and that it’s a pretty good app to use. Also, I learned that I could put an

image over an image without having to do more processes or steps. For me turning words into images was really harder than I

expected, it takes a lot of thought to put the words into the images.

What part of the story does your graphic novel depict?

The part of the book I chose was the Drive-In scene. Its where Ponyboy and Cherry met and they got to know

each other better and when they got deep. This scene also includes where Dally got rejected by Cherry and

Marcia, Cherry didn’t like Dally so she was sassy.

Why did you choose this particular content?

I chose this particular scene because it was the one that spoke to me and dragged me in. It had the most going on

in my opinion and it interested me. The fact that you had a Soc and a Greaser, that came together and talked for

pretty much the whole night about differences and how they got to know each other, was very intriguing.

Especially since they came from different parts of town and in reality, they aren’t supposed to talk to each other

period because of their differences.

What did you learn while completing this project?

I learned a lot of things during this project. I learned how to set up a google drawing and I learned many different

tech things you can do with a computer and program. There are so many cool things that you can do to a google

document and make it look how you want it, and also make it to describe your style. I’ve learned how to do those

things and its awesome t0 know how to make it your own.

What part of the book does your story depict?

Answer: My story depicts the part where Johnny kills the Soc. Then, he and Ponyboy have to

run and hide in a church on top of jay mountain and stay there until Dally comes to get them. Well,

when Dally came to get them, they left to go and get some food from the Dairy Queen. On their way

back in, they saw that the church was on fire, and there were kids trapped inside. Then, they went in

to save the kids, and a piece of burning timber fell on top of Johnny’s back. Dally went in to save

him and was burned on his arm. While they were in the hospital, the other boys in the group were

planning a rumble with the Socs. Dally broke out of the hospital to go win the rumble for Johnny.

When they went back to go see Johnny, he died. After that, Dally was shot and killed by the cops,

and that is where it ends.

Why did you choose this part of the book?

Answer: I chose this part of the book because it is my favorite part of the entire book.

What did you learn from doing this project?

In this project, I learned how to use Google Drawing. I had never used one before.

And then Johnny shooting Bob to get him to go away. Ponyboy and Johnny were indicted for murder so they ran away.

❤ Why did you choose this particular content?

I chose this particular content because it was the most interesting piece in the book. It had you asking questions, plus it made

you want to read more. It had a lot of features, which made the graphic novel more enjoyable.

❤ What did you learn while completing this project? (This could include tech stuff as well as things you

I picked the scene when Johnny, Ponyboy, and Darry go inside the church to save those kids who weren’t supposed to be in the

church because they wouldn’t listen to their teacher.

Why did you choose this particular content?

I picked this particular content because we had just read about it in the book. Another reason why I picked this is that it was the

biggest event that had happened most recently.

What did you learn while completing this project?

Something that I learned during this project was how to move the picture in front of the background. I also learned how to make

avatars and speech bubbles.

them and turn them in.

Why did you choose this particular content?

I chose this part because Johnny and Ponyboy cut their hair and it was hard for Ponyboy to cut his hair since it was

his pride. They cut their hair so the police won't find them and arrest them.

What did you learn while completing this project? (This could include tech stuff as well as things you noticed

● What section of the story does your graphic novel depict?

1: It depicts the part of the outsiders where Johnny and Ponyboy are approached and attacked by their rival gang and

Johnny pulls out a knife and stabs one of the socs and they all run so Ponyboy and Johnny go to their friend Dally for

help because they know the police are after them and they need to run away and stay low until the heat goes down.

● Why did you choose this particular content?

2:I choose this content because it is a very interesting part of the story and it plays a big part in the storyline. It also is

one of the most important situations in the novel.

● What did you learn while completing this project? (This could include tech stuff as

3: Something I learned from this is how to use google draw. I learned many good tricks and trips to make a graphic
