The new branding references our<br />

local connections and our history. The<br />

vintage truck is based on the model we<br />

still have in our premises and gives a <strong>no</strong>d<br />

to our early days on the dray. The rolling<br />

landscape illustration shows the beautiful<br />

Chiltern Hills, and local landmarks such<br />

as the Wendover clock tower and Coombe<br />

Hill monument that have been carefully<br />

redrawn to fit with our new visual style.<br />

These all have great significance to us as<br />

a family and as a business, so we’re really<br />

excited to be able to build them into our<br />

story for all to see.<br />

We hope you’ll agree that this bold<br />

identity demonstrates our energy and<br />

Established in 1737, James Pettit was<br />

formerly the wine and spirit arm of the<br />

Aylesbury Brewery Company. It joined<br />

the Dayla Drinks family back in 2001.<br />

Today, a key member of the Dayla<br />

Drinks family, James Pettit is re<strong>no</strong>wned<br />

for a passion for service, quality and<br />

a unique offer.<br />

As your trusted, expert partner in<br />

exclusive wines, we provide a perfectly<br />

balanced range from across the world,<br />

with a carefully curated portfolio of more<br />

than 500 wines. We showcase a number<br />

of producers within our collection, each<br />

selected for quality, consistency and<br />

Our association with The Society of<br />

Vintners has enabled us to provide the<br />

our newest Account Manager. Adam has a huge wealth of experience in<br />

the industry and we can’t wait to see what he’s going to bring to the table!<br />

TO WORK AT DAYLA<br />

Working in drinks industry sales, it’s<br />

a treat to go to work each day with<br />

such an enviable portfolio of products,<br />

k<strong>no</strong>wing you can literally supply a pub,<br />

bar or restaurant with anything they<br />

need. Also, I’m a bit of a wine fan, so<br />

the chance to show off the James Pettit<br />

range was really exciting! But more<br />

than this, I think it’s the team.<br />

Everyone is valued. The family culture<br />

at Dayla Drinks is special - everyone<br />

pulls together in a way that is rare.<br />

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST<br />

ABOUT OUR INDUSTRY?<br />

Ok, so I’ve been working in beer and<br />

wine sales for a while, and I’d have to<br />

say that what I like most about my<br />

job is relationships. Our industry is<br />

very social and that can be<br />

immensely rewarding.<br />

WHAT IS YOUR<br />

FAVOURITE TIPPLE?<br />

If I’m out and Harvey’s is on the bar,<br />

I can’t <strong>no</strong>t have one or two. If it’s<br />

a hot summer day, then something<br />

hop-forward and crafty gets me going,<br />

like Beavertown Neck Oil. If it’s<br />

Christmas Day, then a rich Amarone<br />

wine or a big burly Barolo.<br />

DO YOU HAVE ANY<br />

PREDICTIONS FOR THE<br />

YEAR AHEAD IN THE<br />

DRINKS TRADE?<br />

I think if 2019 has taught us anything,<br />

it’s that the experience of going out<br />

(eating and drinking) is more important<br />

than ever, and as a result, we’re seeing<br />

customer spend per head increase as<br />

we seek out premium brands. This<br />

has certainly led to a ‘premiumisation’<br />

within the market, which I think will<br />

only continue as people become far<br />

more educated on the products they<br />

like, and their provenance. Also, watch<br />

English craft lager soar!<br />

TELL US A BIT<br />

ABOUT YOURSELF<br />

I’ve been in the drinks trade longer<br />

than I can remember, having worked<br />

at Harvey’s Brewery in Lewes, Sussex,<br />

for a number of years. Whilst there I<br />

developed their wine division and then<br />

went on to join Wimbledon Brewery as<br />

Head of Sales. I’ve always yearned to<br />

join the team at Dayla & James Pettit so<br />

I’m really excited for the next step.

We’re extremely proud of the strong family ties that<br />

have helped our business to become an extended<br />

family of dedicated colleagues.<br />

Our journey<br />

started in the<br />

1800s when<br />

Joseph Holland<br />

began brewing<br />

Holland’s Ales<br />

in the village<br />

of Wendover,<br />

Buckinghamshire. After the First<br />

World War, Joseph sold the brewery<br />

and bought North & Randall,<br />

a small mineral water company.<br />

THE COOPERS<br />

The business grew quickly following the<br />

arrival of Joe’s son-in-law, Richard<br />

Cooper, in 1947. Richard’s wife Pat and<br />

sister-in-law Joan also joined the company<br />

and together they acquired a number of<br />

other local soft drinks companies.<br />

Richard saw potential in a range of<br />

South African soft drinks and brought<br />

Hubbly Bubbly to the UK in the late<br />

1950s, which became a runaway success.<br />

It led to Dayla’s own range of soft drinks<br />

which, in turn, spawned the distribution<br />

side of the business.<br />

Today, our family are still at Dayla’s<br />

core. We’re all passionate believers in<br />

the industry and our business continues<br />

to grow. We’re proud to be an authentic<br />

business that cares about its employees,<br />

community and the wider environment.<br />

Our business has been built up over<br />

four generations which has given us the<br />

most incredibly diverse and extensive<br />

view of the industry. We’ve seen trends<br />

come and go, we’ve perfected our service<br />

levels, we’ve expanded our family, all<br />

whilst remaining true to our roots of<br />

passion, care and honest hard work. Not<br />

to mention, having a lot of fun along<br />

the way!<br />

Many of the staff here at Dayla have<br />

been with us for decades, which we<br />

believe shows testament to our ethos<br />

and position in the community. We love<br />

this unique corner of the entertainment<br />

industry and hopefully will be here for a<br />

long time to come.<br />

A Name?<br />

Few k<strong>no</strong>w the story behind our name<br />

which dates back to the arrival of<br />

Richard (Dick) Cooper in the business.<br />

He joined when it was called North & Randall, but as opportunities arose<br />

and the business grew, he saw the need for something more memorable that<br />

would really stand out in the industry. Keen to link our local connections as<br />

well as the family values, he created Dick’s Aylesbury Agency – or k<strong>no</strong>wn<br />

in its shortened version, Dayla.
