LIAM SMITHRockford swimmer Liam Smith once again made his markon the national swimming stage, setting another recordduring competition. Over the weekend of Jan. 18-19, he attendedthe Jimi Flowers Classic at the Olympic Paralympic TrainingCenter in Colorado Springs, CO. In the 200-meter breaststrokehe set a new SB7 Pan American record of 3:15.50, adding to allof his other accomplishments. Liam represents Riptide andalso swims for Rockford High School as a member of the boysswim & dive team.MADISON KLEEFISCHThe Rams girls varsity basketball team had a big game whenthey faced off against a tough East Kentwood team on theroad on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The Falcons, always a tough OK Redopponent, were looking for redemption after falling to Hudsonvillethe previous Friday. The Ram roster was at a definitesize disadvantage and the team had to stay on the perimeter toscore points. Ram Madison Kleefisch answered the call, knockingdown five threes and a bucket to tally 17 points, keepingthe Falcons reeled in. The Rams ultimately lost the game, butKleefisch’s acumen from beyond the arc kept it a close one.RACHEL GAMMRam Rachel Gamm, who is a standout in water polo andswimming for RHS, was named as a finalist for a MichiganHigh School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Award forthe 2019-20 school year. Rachel is one of 24 finalists for thegirls division for Class A schools, with six of the 24 being honoredwith a scholarship. To be eligible for the award, a studentmust have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 (on a 4.0scale) and previously have won a varsity letter in at least onesport in which the MHSAA sponsors a postseason tournament.The six Class A scholarship recipients will be announced Feb.18.32 ROAR MAGAZINE FEBRUARY, 2020
