The Color Hybrid has replaced the Bohus, which was sold to Greek interests.
Battery Power: About 5 MWh (mega-watt-hour) provides up to 60 min manoeuvring and
sailing at speeds of 0-12 knots. Waste Heat Recovery system that utilises a heat-reservoir
system. Extremely low sound emissions both during battery operation and during the
overnight layovers at the quayside. The exterior noise at low speed and while moored,
measured at 100m distance from the vessel, is far less than the noise coming from a normal
conversation (50dB compared to 65dB). Color Line has installed shore power facilities in all
their Norwegian ports and in Kiel in Germany. At 600kW a cylinder, the Rolls-Royce Bergen
B33:45L8P engines offer reduced fuel consumption and emissions. With a 330mm bore and a
450mm stroke, the engine’s speed levels range between 450rpm and 750rpm for propulsion
engines and between 720rpm and 750rpm for generator sets. The in-line engine cylinders
have a power range between 3,600kW and 5,400kW. The engines have a reduced fuel oil
consumption rate and less visible smoke, complying with International Maritime Organisation
Tier II and Tier III rules. The cylinder unit comprises the head, liner, piston and upper conrod,
which can be removed for overhaul in one unit. The Color Hybrid was purchased with the aid
of the Export Credit Agency (ECA) financing over a 12-year period from the delivery date.
GIEK (the Norwegian Export Credit Guarantee Agency) and DnB Bank provided guarantees
or structure offers to Color Group, the parent company of Color Line, to fund 80% of the
ferry cost, equal to approximately NOK1bn ($117m) The ship was named by Norway’s Prime
Minister, Erna Solberg, on 23rd August 2019. The ship was named ‘Ship of the Year 2019’
on 4th June 2019. The upper deck boasts a greenhouse where herbs are grown, warmed
from the Waste Heat Recovery System.
