Heywood Turns to

Cretaceous Times

If you go down to the park today,

you might be in for a dino surprise.

In celebration of the arrival of Dippy - the world-famous Diplodocus dinosaur

cast in Rochdale from the Natural History Museum, a new dino is lurking near

the lake at Queens Park, Heywood - a T-Rex who currently remains nameless.

Although they lived millions of years apart, the borough is going dinosaur crazy

as the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Billy Sheerin, along with local councillors

and members from The Friends of Queen’s Park and Heywood in Bloom

officially unveiled the new bog garden on Friday 28 February, which features

the statuesque T-Rex for all to enjoy.

The project has been 12 months in the making with most of the funding

secured was from ‘The Big Life’ with some other smaller donations. It has been

a collaboration by Friends of Queen’s Park and Heywood in Bloom plus labour

by Argos volunteers, with help and support from the Environmental

Management Team at Rochdale Borough Council and the park gardeners.
