We will present the complete collection of

the 23 “Fantasie” painted by Mario Mafai

between 1941 and 1943 and acquired

directly from the artist by Giovanni Pirelli

in 1958. Here, we publish “The Directors”,

dated 1941-43. The important collection

has been exhibited many times in various

national and international museums.

Middle Ages

A long lost Boccaccio, in large format, from

the great era of Burgundian bibliophilia: a

very fine codex in almost pristine condition

with known provenance of the aristocratic

recipients. The miniatures in this imposing

codex are notable for their large scale, with

spacious, colourful, and contemporary

settings for distant events described in the

texts. Many of the images present a striking

originality inspired by the stories they

accompany.

From Paris, Matilde Duffaud arrives

in Naples in 1870 and settles with the

antiquarian Duhamel on the hill of

Capodimonte and begins to frequent the

studio of Gemito, who portrays her in

numerous drawings. Until now, there are

no other known busts in terracotta. Our

sculpture is similar to the “Veiled Maiden”

and “Moorish Boy “ executed in the same

year by the twenty-year old artist.
