Patricia Hsu_Portfolio
Hi there :) My name is Patricia Hsu I graduated from my master degree in Curating at the University of Essex. After graduating in the UK, I decided to come back to my beautiful motherland-Taiwan. During a year and a half back in Taiwan, I was working at an International School in Taichung as a Student Activity Planner. I've designed different educational trips for students from 13-18 years old and have put them in different learning environment. This portfolio shows what I've done in the past 2 years and I believe I can help with creativity and activity planning. Thank you for reading this, It would be my honor to join your team :)

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
This exhibition has been organised and curated by eight MA
Curating students with the help of Art Exchange, The University
of Essex, and the School of Art History and Philosophy.
This exhibition presents the Umbrella Movement not only
in a documentary fashion but also as a source of inspiration for
our generation. It shows how both international and Hong Kong
based artists have responded to and shaped this
collective action.
You are also invited to make your own mark on out exhibition
by writing on our “Lennon Wall”. Take a card and let us know
what the movement means to you, and help us create a dynamic
democratic space!
This exhibition was made possible by the help of at least 28
CLICK supporters, and we would like to extend a big thank you
to everyone who helped out! Our special gratitude goes out to
Albert Chen, Dee Gandhi, Margaret Suttong, Maria Del Señor
Lafuente, Gemma Martinez, and the Marcelli Family.
Special thanks also go out to Abigayle Cockett, Carlos
Gigoux Granegna, Clare Ruffle and Kate Beckwith, Emma
Berry, Gavin Grindon, James Barnard, Jess Twyman, Katherine
Bailey, Michael Tymkiw, Naeun Kim and Haydn Taylor, and
Wendy Williams. Thank you also to the participating artists, the
origami society, and Joshua Wong.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
In 2014 it was announced that the Chinese government
would be pre-vetting electoral candidates before they could
stand for democratic election in Hong Kong. In response,
thousands of individuals joined with political organisations
to protest in the streets of Hong Kong. The protests
occupied the streets of Hong Kong from September, and
were forcibly cleared by police in December. ‘The Umbrella
Movement’, as it came to be known here, took its name from
the umbrellas which the demonstrators used as improvised
shields against the police’s pepper spray, and which soon
became an iconic symbol of resistance and unity.
25 years since our own university campus was occupied
by the protests of May 1968, join us in an exhibition that
hopes to increase awareness about this contemporary
movement with a strong student compliment, the
protagonists of which are still fighting for democracy
in Hong Kong today.
