IFOY

MGZN

ALL

Interviewed

ABOUT

on the occasion of the

IFOY TEST DAYS 2020: Sascha Schmel,

managing director of the VDMA Materials

Handling and Intralogistics Association.

The IFOY Test has taken

place for the eighth time.

How did it develop from

your point of view?

The IFOY AWARD is the most

important intralogistics

award in the world. In the last

round alone, almost 3000

articles from over 360 media

in 32 countries were written

about the IFOY finalists. This

response is incredible. The

IFOY is also pure emotion

for the participants – the

cheering at the award ceremony

when the winners are

announced clearly shows this.

The VDMA is sponsor of

the IFOY AWARD? What is

your aim with this?

When IFOY was launched in

2013, our main aim was to

provide international recognition

for the achievements of the

industry, but also for intralogistics

solutions, and to put them

in the spotlight. The innovations

are not just software and hardware,

but an important key element

in logistics processes and

make a significant contribution

to the success of the company.

Is it true that nobody

knows who will win until

the ceremony of the IFOY

AWARD?

Not quite. The chairwoman

of the jury knows the

names of the winners. But

the manufacturers actually

only find out about the vote

on stage. Tension is a must.

How seriously do you think

IFOY is taken?

The high number of international

applicants is a strong

indication of the importance

manufacturers attach to an

IFOY nomination. This year the

products came from China, the

USA, Germany, France, Ireland

and England. The companies go

to great lengths to compete at

IFOY, even though the nominees

receive nothing as a gift.

The test methodology (editor‘s

note: all nominees go through a

three-step audit consisting of a

practical IFOY Test, scientific innovation

check and jury test) is

THE IFOY AWARD IS THE MOST IMPORTANT

INTRALOGISTICS AWARD. COMPANIES GO TO

GREAT LENGTHS TO COMPETE, EVEN THOUGH

THE NOMINEES RECEIVE NOTHING AS A GIFT.

unique and the basis of its high

credibility. For buyers of intralogistics

products, an IFOY nomination

is a benchmark for the

6

IFOY

MGZN

FOR BUYERS OF INTRALOGISTICS PRODUCTS, AN IFOY

NOMINATION IS THE MEASURE OF THE QUALITY OF

A PRODUCT. THIS IS SHOWN BY THE LARGE NUMBER

OF VISITORS TO THE TEST CAMP THIS YEAR.

This year, potential customers

were officially

invited for the first time.

What do you think about

the premiere of the TEST

CAMP?

The visitors stand for the

users in practice. The greatest

attraction at the TEST CAMP,

as the name already suggests,

was to try out the best innovations

of the year for yourself

– neutrally in combination

with an independent test. You

simply must have seen this.

China has joined the jury. I am

sure the organisation will continue

to grow in this direction.

quality of a product. By the way,

this is also shown by the large

number of visitors to the TEST

CAMP Intralogistics this year.

Have you come across

any real surprises in the

voting in the past? After all,

journalists from Russia,

the USA or Australia have

different priorities for their

reader target groups than,

for example, Germans or

Englishmen...

… that‘s the point. Whether a

truck needs a few percent more

or less energy is less decisive

for the jury‘s verdict. Much more

important are criteria such as

innovative value and customer

benefit. The assessments in

the different jury countries are

naturally based on customer

requirements. So it sometimes

is a surprise that supposedly

clear innovation favourites

are beaten by solutions with

outstanding customer benefit.

My biggest surprise, however,

is the enthusiasm with which

the editors themselves test.

The IFOY jury consists of

trade journalists from 19

countries. How far will the

topic of internationality be

expanded?

The intralogistics sector was

international from the very

beginning. However, we did not

expect such an overwhelming

worldwide response. Media

from all over the world are now

applying for jury membership,

and this year a journalist from

Why do the categories vary

from year to year?

An important IFOY principle is to

constantly adapt to the market

and thus give the industry the

opportunity to compete with

innovations. Suggestions for

this come from the jury, the

advisory board, the industry

but also from the buyers. In the

coming years IFOY will certainly

decide on some interesting categories

with regard to Industry

4.0. Experience shows that the

IFOY office is very innovative

and fast in such matters.

In addition to the test

report, the members of the

jury also receive a comprehensive

innovation check.

What are the reasons for

this?

Technical expertise is the

hallmark of the IFOY AWARD,

and in the Innovation Check, the

devices are once again clearly

classified in the technological

competitive environment by

experts with a broad and comprehensive

technological overview.

After all, the innovation

of a truck is at stake, not least

because the nominees never

compete against each other, but

always against the category of

products on the market. In my

opinion, the Innovation Check

is a very important evaluation.

for the warehouse truck finalists. The

Combi-CS from Combilift, a compact

pedestrian-controlled truck, also took

part in the race. In the “Special Vehicle“

category, the enormous SRSC45H9

Hybrid Reach Stacker from Sany Europe

and the Combi-CBE4 from Combilift,

an electrically driven special forklift with

four-wheel drive, were both presented.

In the “AGV & Intralogistics Robots“ category,

gave their

HEROES OF

PRACTICE

They simply know what's good: Four BMW

forklift drivers have intensively tested the IFOY

innovations.

BY STEFANIE NONNENMANN

Alexander

Kühn, Marco

Forchhammer (1st and

2nd from left), Harald

Grzeschik and Johann

Ruland (4th and 5th from

left) faced the challenges

as VIP testers

together with Marcus

Wollens (middle).

FForklifts are their daily

workplace. This makes

it all the more important

for Alexander Kühn, Marco

Forchhammer, Harald

Grzeschik and Johann

Ruland, all forklift drivers

at the BMW plant

in Regensburg, that industrial

trucks not only

work precisely but also

offer a certain degree of comfort. At the

TEST CAMP Intralogistics, the four drivers

were able to find out exactly how well the

IFOY nominees meet these criteria. Marcus

Wollens, vice president steering production,

production system, controlling, logistics

at the Regensburg plant of BMW, travelled

with them to Hannover to give them the opportunity

to put the forklifts and industrial

trucks presented here through their paces.

But just taking a few laps around the hall

with the forklift would not have been a

challenge for the four professionals. Instead,

IFOY tester Theo Egberts demanded

everything from them with his own course.

Among other things, they had to lift pallets

upright and crosswise with great sensitivity

and place them down again exactly

– a task that the BMW team mastered

with great success – experience pays off.

And Marcus Wollens was also very pleased

with the campaign. “Our drivers have the

relevant know-how about what makes

a good forklift truck and what requirements

it has to meet. It is a special honour

that they are allowed to take such a close

look at the IFOY models here,” he said.

For the quartet, the trip to Hanover and the

test of a total of 19 industrial trucks was in

any case particularly worthwhile in the end.

IFOY jury head Anita Würmser awarded them

with trophies as VIP testers on the IFOY stage.

In 2021, the IFOY crew will again give a team

of forklift truck drivers the chance to test at

the TEST CAMP Intralogistics. Applications are

now welcome by e-mail at: anita.wuermser@

HOW IFOY TESTS

Since 2013, forklift trucks and solutions compete

for the IFOY AWARD in up to 13 categories. The

categories range from counterbalanced forklift

trucks and warehouse technology, AGVs and robots

to software for intralogistics (see page 74).

However, the path to the IFOY AWARD is not easy. In

a multi-stage procedure, applicants must first clear

the nomination hurdle before they are admitted to

the TEST DAYS, which take place at the Hannover

Messe exhibition grounds. There the three-part IFOY

Audit awaits the finalists.

1. THE IFOY TEST

The audit starts with the practice-orientated IFOY

Test by the Dutch trade journalist Theo Egberts.

He has the largest comparative database of

independent test data in Europe, which is

considered the benchmark for industrial trucks.

The test compares the nominees with the relevant

products of competitors. The vehicles undergo

individually tailored driving or functional tests,

including the detailed IFOY Test with 80 criteria.

2. THE IFOY

INNOVATION CHECK

The innovation value is one of the main evaluation

criteria for the jurors. To be able to assess the value

The IFOY Audit is traditionally concluded with the

assessment of the finalists by the jurors and their

approved advisors. The members of the jury, trade

journalists from all over the world, are not only

presented with all the results of the IFOY Test and

the scientific IFOY Innovation Check for their voting,

but also test the nominated trucks and solutions

Is it a real innovation or a successful

further development? How do the

performance facts look like compared

to the competition? What about

customer benefit, processing and

equipment? Nowhere more testing

and inspection is carried out than at

the IFOY AWARD. Those who are nominated

for the final must undergo a

one-week audit. The results give the

jurors important clues for their vote.

This year, three logistics scientists and

the Dutch test team put the IFOY finalist to

the test in Hall 4 of IFOY partner Deutsche

Messe in Hannover. In total the experts examined

and tested 16 industrial trucks and

solutions from 15 manufacturers.

Part one of the IFOY Audit was the practice-orientated

IFOY Test by the Dutch

trade journalist Theo Egberts. It measures

the hard facts and compares them with

the relevant competitive equipment. The

vehicles undergo individually tailored

driving or functional tests, including the

IFOY Test protocol comprising around 80

criteria, which determines, among other

things, the economy and energy efficiency,

sustainability, safety and ergonomics of

the equipment.

The second, and most important, part of

the IFOY Audit is the scientific innovation

check. It is carried out by the Dortmund

Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow

and Logistics (IML), the Chair of Technical

Logistics at the University of Dresden and

the Chair of Materials Handling Material

Flow Logistics at the Technical University

of Munich.

The IFOY Innovation Check team scores the

nominees in terms of market relevance,

customer benefit, type of execution and

degree of innovation. In addition, the scientists

verified the innovations specified by

the manufacturers and evaluated in a technology

comparison whether they are innovative

further developments, successful

new compositions or genuine innovations.

As a guide, the scientists use a five-point

evaluation scale for their assessment: "not

VERDICT OF THE INNOVATION CHECK

The ESR 1000 features numerous innovations that give it a competitive edge in an

already well-established market segment. Especially for reach trucks, an

increased lowering speed of the load handling attachment as well as energy

recovery during lowering has not been offered on the market so far. The

assistance functions are also familiar from other sectors, but have not yet been

implemented so consistently for material handling equipment.

The Crown ESR 1000 reach truck

series consists of trucks with

capacities from 1400 to 2000 kg

and lift heights up to 13,560 mm.

The IFOY Test truck has a load

capacity of 1600 kg and a lift

height of 6840 mm. It is equipped

with a 48V/468Ah battery.

Outstanding features are the

optional Xpress Lower Technology,

which doubles the

lowering speed, and the energy

recuperation during lowering,

which reduces energy consumption

by up to eleven percent.

According to Crown, productivity

gains can be up to 21 percent.

The user benefits most when

lowering from high altitudes.

In the tests, Xpress Lower proves

to be around 50 percent faster

than the safety lowering speed

developed by Crown. Compared

to the top forklifts on the

market, Crown's lowering speed

is a full 25 percent higher. The

advantage of energy recovery

during lowering is also significant.

With the one-tonne test

load on the twelve-metre mast,

the test team measured an

energy saving of 12.5 percent.

The automatic height selection

Ergonomics and personalisation

play an important role in productivity.

Crown knows that. The

IFOY Test truck offers a range

of adjustment options, from a

suspended seat to forward and

rearward seating positions. The

seat tilt and lumbar support are

adjustable, as are the armrest

or the height of the steering

and its horizontal position.

The test truck is equipped with

fingertip levers and the vehicle

responds predictably to steerings.

The so-called offset mast

of the wheel, fork and pallet.

The optional panoramic glass

maximises visibility and provides

an excellent protective shield.

Compact, powerful and revolutionary in design: With the new

ERC 216zi, Jungheinrich launched an extremely comfortable

battery-powered truck on the market last year. Its fully

integrated lithium-ion battery enables round-the-clock

operation and is the basis for a completely new truck

concept. The symbiosis of vehicle and battery enables an ultra-compact

design with plenty of space for an ergonomic driver's seat. This

makes the manoeuvrable truck even faster and safer, especially

in tight warehouse environments. In the IFOY Test, only the mast

damping with an unloaded fork offers optimisation potential.

Lithium-ion make it possible: The manufacturer was able to design

the vehicle completely new and more compact than before, as the

rectangular shape of the replaceable battery is no longer a requirement.

Energy is now supplied by an integrated, maintenance-free

lithium-ion battery (24V/260 Ah), which can be recharged at any

time. The ERC 216zi is therefore very compact, yet still offers plenty

of space for the operator. With a step height of only 195 millimetres,

the warehouse equipment allows the operator to get in and out easily.

Additional comfort is provided by a rubber mat on the platform

and side protective panels. Handles on the top provide additional

support. For greater safety, an optional sensor is available to monitor

whether the operator´s feet remain on the platform. If this is not the

case, the travel speed is automatically reduced.

The smartPILOT controls can be easily adjusted to five height

positions and can be operated very easily with both the left and right

hand. The electric steering works very predictably. However, fast

turns to the left or right do not feel the same due to the decentralised

positioning of the drive motor. If the drive motor is inside, the

truck can easily slide out of corners. However, the Curve Control

System helps to maintain safe cornering speed.

The newly designed mast achieves lifting heights of up to six metres.

On the test truck, the mast reaches up to the 5,250 millimetre

mark. A wide viewing window and the low dashboard ensure good

all-round visibility. The slim protective roof of the test vehicle is

equipped with a glass panoramic roof (optional), which also provides

an excellent view upwards. A colour display is built into the test

truck, on which many details related to the optional operationCON-

TROL and positionCONTROL assistant systems can be read. Among

VERDICT OF THE INNOVATION CHECK

The starting point for the extraordinary innovations in the ERC 216zi is the full

integration of the lithium-ion battery, which enables a vehicle that is very

compact for its class, with many positive and technologically well implemented

features. It offers the user a high benefit when used for the fast transport of

goods over medium to long distances.

On the safe side

No fear of narrow aisles

ominated in the category

Warehouse Truck “lowlifter“,

the Combi-CS from Combilift

is a compact vehicle with a

tiller that can be used in the

most confined spaces. The warehouse truck

has a load capacity of 1000 kilograms and

a lifting height of 2500 millimetres. Among

other things, it has power steering, AC motor

technology, rear-wheel drive and a patented

so-called multi-position tiller, which is

already known from the PPT electric pallet

truck nominated for the IFOY AWARD in an

earlier edition.

The tiller enables the rear wheel to be turned

at the touch of a button. This allows the

driver to stay on the safe side when setting

down and picking up a load in narrow aisles,

making the load and forks fully visible and

maintaining control of the steering. This

allows them to be more attentive to their

surroundings and improves overall safety.

which is standard on this machine. It

can be tilted up to two degrees forwards

and up to five degrees backwards, so

that the load always remains safely

on the fork while driving. Simultaneous

lifting and tilting is not possible.

The two front wheels arranged side by

side allow a maximum wheelbase length

and reduce wheel wear when cornering in

tight corners. The rear 2.5 kW drive wheel

combined with power steering gives the

operator control of the machine with little

effort. Traction is maximum. The IFOY

Test vehicle is the lightest version in the

CS range with a lifting capacity of 1000

kilograms. It is equipped with a 24V/375

Ah battery and reaches a top speed of five

km/h in the test. The Combilift is equipped

with cantilever forks as standard.

The Combi-CS is compact, manoeuvrable

and has a small turning circle thanks

to the short wheelbase. The patented

multi-position tiller allows the machine

to be operated safely overall, the operator

has good visibility and the performance in

narrow aisles is strong. The short wheelbase

requires some getting used to. The

same applies, by the way, to the electric

steering, which reacts with a slight delay.

“The solution is not overly innovative,“ is

the verdict of the IFOY Innovation Check.

Its operation is certainly something that

has to be learned first, but it is nevertheless

far-reaching, intuitive and logical.

The purely electro-hydraulic steering

machine also eliminates the risk of trapping

or crushing. At the same time, the Combi-CS

can also be used in very narrow aisles. Even

in the narrow aisles of a reach truck, the

operator can work easily and safely. When

handling Euro pallets, the required aisle

width for the smallest version of the truck is

only 2.10 metres.

A striking feature for this segment of

industrial trucks is the tiltable mast,

Completely in the Combilift tradition, the

truck is robust and very solidly built. The

modern display on the tiller informs the

user about wheel position, driving direction

and battery status. The number of operating

hours, turtle or rabbit speed signs and any

activated parking brake are also displayed.

Working with the Combi-CS is intuitive, but

requires some attention, which the operator

should always have in mind. The truck can

be steered and operated precisely when

driving carefully. The shrill beep when driving

forward and when lowering the fork can

cause irritation, according to the testers.

principle with a slight time delay does

not lead to any disadvantages after only

a short period of getting used to it.

VERDICT OF THE INNOVATION CHECK

The Combi-CS is a nice hands-on solution. It offers significant added

value in terms of operation and safety in confined environments.

The market relevance is very high. The product is a user-orientated

solution that has been professionally implemented.

the Combi-CBE4 can

handle heavier loads

than models in the previously

introduced CBE

range. The new model

has a whole range of

innovative features, such as the unique and internationally

patented electric traction system, which

allows independently controlled drive wheels at the

front and rear. While driving, the speed and direction

of rotation of all wheels are independently monitored

and controlled. The result is excellent directional

stability and 100 percent traction control in really all

conditions. In addition, cornering is possible without

additional tyre wear.

The hydraulic steering system ensures greater

reliability. A standard side shift and the integrated

hydraulic fork positioner make it easier to handle

loads of different sizes, so that the driver no longer

has to leave the cabin to adjust the forks manually.

The truck also offers the option of rotating the rear

wheel by 180 degrees. Also integrated: monitoring of

the wheel position.

As there is no standard test track for forklifts of

this type, the CBE4 was sent to the standard test

track for counterbalanced trucks in the IFOY Test.

The Combi-CBE4 looks a bit bulky and takes some

getting used to. The high step and the rather sharp

edge of the frame require careful mounting and dismounting.

The working situation is tight, but manage-

able. However, the truck is pleasant to drive, the reactions

are predictable and the driver is not confronted

with surprises. This also increases safety. Both acceleration

and braking are precise. The current position

of all three wheels is shown on the colour display.

According to the test team, the cabin could be a

little more spacious. The view of both the load

and the surroundings is acceptable. Despite its

width of 1650 millimetres, the Combi-CBE4 is agile

and makes manoeuvring easy and pleasant.

The 4-way positioning of the wheels allows operation

in several directions and makes driving

MGZNSany Europe's new hybrid SRSC45H9 full container

reach stacker offers first, second and third

row lift capacities of 45, 31 and 15 tonnes. According

to Sany, the productivity increases are

at least 15 percent compared to the in-house

standard vehicle. Fuel consumption is also 20

percent lower. The advantages are due to a hybrid

system that is designed to lift and lower the

boom with the spreader. Two additional lifting cylinders are connected

to accumulators which store the energy released when the

boom is lowered and release it again in a direct flow of force to lift

the boom. The hybrid system works in parallel with the main lifting

cylinders and provides up to 70kW of additional power. The system

has already proven itself in other industries and, according to the

test team, is being used for the first time in container stackers.

The main lifting cylinders are slimmer, which enables faster lifting

with lower engine power and lower energy consumption. At full

load, the lifting speed increase is 13 percent, according to Sany.

Because only one instead of two beams were used on the spreader,

Sany was able to achieve a weight reduction of one to two

tonnes. The use of only one beam is familiar from empty container

handling, but is new for handling full containers. Sany achieved

an additional weight saving at the boom head and counterweight,

which in practice reduces fuel consumption. In addition, the lower

weight and the movable counterweight (optional) increase the

lifting capacity in both the second and third rows by one tonne.

The reachstacker has a stacking height of five instead of four

containers in the second row. The IFOY Test does not provide a test

track for this type of equipment. But Sany´s own tests show that

productivity (containers per hour) increases by up to 23 percent.

The fuel saving is up to 11.5 percent. Converted into fuel savings

per container, this advantage would be around 20 percent.

Depending on the exact circumstances at the customer's premises,

the additional expense compared to the standard vehicle is

amortised in a relatively short time of about one year, according to

the IFOY Innovation Check.

During the inspection of the IFOY Test vehicle, the comfortable

cabin catches the eye. It is very spacious and the

frameless windows offer the driver an unrestricted

view of the working situation. The sliding function

of the cabin also allows the operator to

find the best working position.

cab, rear view camera, air conditioning, responsive

joystick control, colour display and adjustable steering

activated when reverse gear is engaged. The display

in the control panel offers an unrestricted view.

VERDICT OF THE INNOVATION CHECK

The SRSC45H9 shows that innovation does not have to be

complicated. A technology of hydropneumatic accumulators

known from related fields was used and applied in the right

place. The implementation of this energy recovery is excellent.

Due to the high volume of containers handled worldwide, this

Down with the center of gravity

Stable in the curve

BY ANITA WÜRMSER

T

he Hyster J60XNL (J3.0XNL) has been

designed around an integrated lithium-ion

battery. The design of the counterbalance

truck is no longer dictated by

a large, rectangular lead-acid battery.

The advantages are obvious: Shifting the centre

of gravity downwards and further back improves

stability. Especially when cornering, the J60XNL

is more stable on the ground than a model with

a lead battery. The performance in terms of both

productivity and energy consumption was also

above average in the IFOY Test.

Added to this are the advantages of lithium-ion

technology such as faster charging and the

possibility of spontaneous intermediate charging

of the maintenance-free battery. Furthermore,

there is no specially adapted space or room in

the warehouse for charging and changing the

battery required. No gases are released during

the charging process.

The design of the truck around the lithium-ion

battery also offers advantages for

the driver, who now has more legroom,

for example. Thanks to the space gained,

Hyster was also able to equip the truck with

a fully suspended seat. The lowering of the

floor plate and the position of the seat also

give additional headroom of almost nine

centimetres. Despite the additional space,

however, the step for getting on and off the

truck has not become any larger. According

to the IFOY testers, this is a missed

opportunity. The lithium-ion battery can

communicate with the truck and "instruct"

it to adjust performance depending on the

operating temperature. According to Hyster,

this allows the J60XN to be used in a wider

temperature range than other trucks with

lithium-ion technology.

The total weight of the truck is more than

318 kilograms less than the model with

a lead acid battery. The weight reduction

allows for better acceleration, manoeuvrability

and lower energy consumption.

To maximise battery performance, Hyster

recommends that the lithium-ion battery

be switched off when the truck is not in use.

For this purpose, an additional on/off button

is located on the side of the truck.

Different settings can be selected depending

on the operating conditions. Firstly, the

energy-recovering brake can be adjusted.

This is set to 60 percent as standard.

However, the IFOY Test team achieved the

best results with the setting at 80 percent.

The truck then stops faster and changing

the direction of travel costs less energy.

Four individual settings are available for

each mode.

The standard mode of the truck is eco,

which is sufficient for the vast majority of

applications, especially if the highest of the

four settings is selected. Authorised users

can also increase the performance to high

performance. On the test truck this only

changes the acceleration. During the IFOY

Test, the extremely rigid and solid mast

stands out. The optimal view upwards is

somewhat hindered by the protection roof,

especially for taller drivers.

VERDICT OF THE INNOVATION CHECK

The integration of lithium-ion batteries can be considered a novelty for a

counterbalance truck in this performance class. That brings a number of

advantages for the operator in terms of ergonomics and driving behaviour.

The additional space created for the operator is somewhat unique.

to diesel or gas.

The E-series in the

2.5 to 3.5 tonne

class comprises seven models with numerous

options, such as a rear air conditioning system

integrated into the truck and a check before the

start of a shift, which can be fully configured

according to customer requirements. The IFOY

Test truck is the high performance version of the

series. This forklift truck is slightly longer than its

predecessor, and the same applies to the other

new models. The advantage: More legroom and a

larger working area for the driver. The entry and

exit steps are also larger. The visibility through the

mast and roof is very good in the test. Thanks to

the lower dashboard, the view to the front is also

better. The new intelligent display on the adjustable

armrest provides the drivers with all relevant

information and makes it easier for them to select

various settings, such as driving and lifting mode,

energy savings with Blue-Q and sprint power for

extra performance. The armrest can be adjusted

both horizontally and vertically. According to the

testers, the height adjustment could be placed a

little lower.

The steering of the new RX 60 is very precise.

It has good stability, both with and without

load. The steering column can be fixed in four

predetermined positions, but has no height

adjustment. The operation of the RX 60 is

precise and sensitive. The lifting speed of the

high performance version with a 25 kW instead

of a 20 kW pump motor is enormous. The test

team measured a speed without load of more

than 66 centimetres per second, a record in this

class. The influence of the high-performance

version is clearly noticeable when driving.

The combination of acceleration, driving and

lifting results in a productivity of 363 pallets in

eight hours. The measured productivity has never

been so high in the IFOY Test. Thanks to energy

recovery, optimised software and the new control

setting (as close as possible to the engine), the

Still RX 60 is extremely energy efficient. Even at

maximum power, the tested operating time in

practice is twelve hours and 51 minutes when

using the 670 Ah/80V lithium-ion battery. In

practice, Blue-Q technology gives the operator

more than 16 hours of power from a single battery

charge, although productivity remains at the

same level as on the best electric truck to date.

has an electric forklift truck been so productive. It is

quiet, easy to operate and manoeuvrable. The truck

also scores points with its lower costs for electricity

compared to diesel or gas, as well as its low maintenance

requirements. Thus Still has put together all the criteria

for a combustion killer. The test team's suggestions for

improvement include armrest adjustment, a horn for

Locator – Laser Localisation

Software

Intralogistics Software

BY ANITA WÜRMSER

Tand

for manufacturers

of special solutions, as

it decouples them from the development of

expertise in environment-based localisation.

In a sense, the laser localisation software

creates the basis for autonomous driving in

intralogistics and production environments.

And it enables AGV OEMs, forklift OEMs and

system integrators to develop autonomous

vehicles or services such as fleet optimisation.

AGV manufacturers can concentrate on their

core competence of vehicle construction and/

or automation of standard industrial trucks.

For this reason, the IFOY Innovation Check

estimates the market relevance as high.

With the Locator, Bosch Rexroth presents a

product that takes over the software function

of environment-based localisation based on

laser distance measurement. The software is

designed to work with various laser distance

measurement sensors. Using a laser sensor

he market for Automated Guided

Vehicles (AGVs) continues to develop

well. The Locator is therefore

an interesting innovation

for both the automation of

standard industrial trucks

(including safety laser scanner), the software

automatically maps the environment

and determines the position and orientation

of the vehicle with high accuracy. Time and

cost advantages also arise when commissioning

individual vehicles at a customer's

premises, since the environment-based

localisation does not require any set-up and

measuring effort. Supported by the software,

a map of the application area is generated in

which the relevant points can be localised.

This implementation of environment based

localisation, strictly defined as a product, is

not fundamentally innovative. However, the

systems available on the market to date do

require considerable adaptation and calibration

effort in practice and require expert

knowledge. Bosch Rexroth has anticipated

this engineering work for many applications

and environmental factors and integrated

the adaptation functions into the software.

The innovation thus lies in the tailoring and

design of the product, which is specifically

geared to current market requirements.

The Bosch Rexroth Locator is offered both

as software for implementation on an

36

IFOY

already existing vehicle computer and on a

separate computer with defined interfaces for

the sensors for laser distance measurement

and the output of the localisation data.

Technologically, the solution is up to date with

freely available and commercial solutions. The

complete integration of all functions in one

system also relieves the automation specialist

from the work of map creation and updating

as well as localisation within the map.

VERDICT OF THE INNOVATION CHECK

This implementation of environment-based

Intralogistics

Software

At the IFOY AWARD 2020 ProGlove enters the competition in the category “Intralogistics

Software“ with the “ProGlove Cloud”. The cloud helps companies map a digital twin of their processes

to better manage devices, identify logistics challenges, ensure seamless warehouse

processes and enable intelligent workflows. According to ProGlove, the product is designed to

deliver operational efficiencies and reduce implementation costs. As a stand-alone solution,

the cloud can be quickly deployed through plug-and-play software integration and is not dependent on

ERP or WMS data.

The ProGlove Cloud on display offers good potential to create value for the individual user.

Just the presentation of the acquisition data and the overview of the different data

sources are very helpful for the user, especially due to the good design of the user

interface. The claim that the software solution is an analysis and design tool

beyond data collection and presentation has the potential for further

customer benefits.

The ProGlove Cloud helps

companies to map a digital

twin of their processes, among

other things, to better manage

devices.

The data collection and identification of logistics objects in

the material flow is still an important topic. The need to

organise data acquisition easily and securely and to

raise the potential for process optimisation are

the reasons for the good market relevance

of the solution. ProGlove has implemented

the principle of the

scanner with visualisation

and camera very well in

a small and robust

housing. With

38

IFOY

MGZN

these devices the manufacturer

has a very competitive product

in the market. Specifically with

the nominated ProGlove Cloud, faster

process modelling for better device management,

weak point analysis and the design

of logistics processes should be possible. However, in

the opinion of the IFOY Innovation Checkers, it was not

clear during the demonstration how this functionality and

the associated innovation is achieved beyond the use of the

own interface and what its characteristics are. From a purely

technological point of view, the implementation of the cloud solution

is state-of-the-art and the design of the user interface and operating

functions also offer the user a quick and appealing overview of the data

and information. However, the individual functions of process modelling,

weak-point analysis and process design are not easy to read from the user

interface and were not even recognisable when asked. With the increasing

spread of digitalisation and the Internet of Things, companies are networking

more and more. For this reason, many customers are currently

investing in intelligent technologies, processes and workflows in order to

be able to manage the collection of enormous amounts of process- and

plant-related data. ProGlove currently forecasts a potential market for

the ProGlove Cloud of around 60 percent.

“The presented

ProGlove Cloud offers

good potential to create

benefits for the individual

user”.

VERDICT OF THE INNOVATION CHECK

The ProGlove Cloud offers good potential to create value for the

individual user. Just the presentation of the data and the overview of

the various data sources alone offer benefits for the user, especially

through the good design of the user interface.

EASY

GOING

More productivity,

lower operating costs:

TractEasy makes the

automation of

logistics processes

flexible.

BY STEFANIE NONNENMANN

Name

IFOY Category

TractEasy

AGV/Robot

TractEasy is an autonomous electric tow tractor made by the company

EasyMile, which enables the automation of logistics processes

and will compete in the IFOY AWARD 2020 in the category “AGV/

Robot“. The driverless, emission-free tractor has a towing capacity

of 25 tonnes, can be used in a variety of applications thanks to its

electric drive and can move at speeds of up to 25 km/h.

The popularity of autonomous vehicles in intralogistics has grown

rapidly in recent years and Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs)

are not new. Until now, however, their use has often been limited

to warehouse or production environments. In addition, the vehicles

often place high demands on the quality of the floor. The outdoor

area is still especially a challenge when it comes to autonomous

vehicles. However, particularly in the area of transport between

company buildings, automation could lead to significant savings

due to the greater distances involved.

TractEasy closes this gap. The vehicle is suitable for indoor and

outdoor use and can also be used in difficult weather conditions,

such as heavy rain, snow or temperatures between -15°C and

+35°C. The tractor drives safely in mixed traffic between cars,

pedestrians and bicycles and can also be used on uneven terrain

thanks to its ground clearance. This literally opens new doors for

autonomous transport in intralogistics.

Complex tasks, such as driving through gates or situations at traffic

lights, are no problem for the TractEasy as long as the obstacle,

for example a gate or traffic light, is equipped with an additional

module with which the system can communicate. EasyMile has

teamed up with the company TLD to develop the tractor. EasyMile

has developed the autonomous technology platform which is

integrated in the electric tugger JET-16 by TLD.

The vehicle is equipped with a whole range of sensors, for example

LIDARS, cameras, GPS, IMU and odometry. They enable safe and

reliable navigation without additional infrastructure. In autonomous

mode, the route previously learned by the device is constantly

40

IFOY

MGZN

compared with the actual situation. The route taught to the vehicle

can be optimised with the software developed by EasyMile. With

this tool, speeds can also be easily adjusted – even for individual

zones or areas.

The tugger has two safety zones. Firstly, the speed of the vehicle

is gradually reduced to zero if an obstacle is detected within one

metre on the sides or within two to ten metres in front of the tugger,

depending on the speed. However, if the obstacle is within 60

centimetres, the emergency brake is automatically activated and

the vehicle comes to an abrupt stop. This is the second stage. In

this case, an acoustic signal sounds. If the vehicle begins an autonomous

journey, the signal also sounds to alert the surroundings to

the autonomous vehicle. A preset stop time can be selected at the

stops along the route. The alternative is a stop where the tugger

receives a manual command to continue the route again.

VERDICT OF THE INNOVATION CHECK

The TractEasy automated series vehicle achieves safe navigation

in the outdoor area using the principle of sensor fusion, and in

specific individual cases the vehicle, which has been very well

thought out and implemented extremely professionally, can be

very helpful. The reliability and driving behaviour are excellent.

EasyMile estimates that if a logistics process is completely

replaced by TractEasy vehicles, a return on investment (ROI) of

approximately two years can be achieved for a two-shift operation

(five days a week). For 24/7 operation, the ROI can even be reduced

to 1.2 years, according to the manufacturer. There is no comprehensive

test protocol for this IFOY nomination, but during the IFOY

demo, the solution convinced the team with a safe and trouble-free

autonomous operation. Changing routes, however, requires some

knowledge and time.

By increasing productivity and reducing operating costs, TractEasy

offers more flexibility, both in terms of technology and personnel

planning. Firstly, the vehicles can be used both indoors and outdoors.

On the other hand, the company also remains flexible with

regard to staff absences, holidays and training.

The IFOY Innovation Checkers particularly praised the

reliability and driving behaviour and rated them as

“excellent“.

The new Geek+ C200 Robot Shuttle

System combines the C200

totes, with a normal intermediate

floor rack to provide goodsto-person

picking at low cost

with high flexibility and storage

capacity. The system identifies,

picks and transports standard

size totes and cartons weighing

up to 40 kilograms. It is suitable

for so-called multi-SKU storage

and picking applications and

is designed for operation with

single-floor shelving or shelving

with multiple shelves.

The system fits into existing

warehouses and can be quickly

implemented on the building

or infrastructure without major

effort. It can be used in single or

multilevel warehouses where,

for example, goods are collected

in a mezzanine area. It can also

be easily adapted to changes

in demand by adding or removing

robots. The Geek+ C200

Robot Shuttle System navigates

with centimetre precision. The

solution uses QR codes and

three cameras. One is mounted

underneath the unit, plus one on

each side of the load handling

device.

The system features recurring

data analysis and machine

learning. As new data is fed in,

the artificial intelligence (AI)

algorithms are constantly being

improved so that the system can

solve more complex tasks and

work more precisely. The robot

shuttle reaches speeds of 2 m/s

and a lifting speed of just over

26 cm/s.

When processes permit or when

the battery capacity is below 70

percent, the C200 navigates to

the charging station to recharge

the lithium-ion battery. This

ensures continuous availability.

This picking solution helps to

save money. According to the

manufacturer, total costs are

halved compared to traditional

shuttle systems, provided that

picking efficiency and storage

capacity are identical in

this comparison. In addition,

the modular design and high

flexibility make the use and

maintenance of the AI robots

easy and accessible compared

to earlier models on the market.

Furthermore, it is a business

model that allows flexible

use with different numbers of

vehicles and thus should also

make “pay per pick” invoicing

possible, although the costs for

this and thus the profitability

for the customer could not be

explicitly verified.

During the IFOY TEST DAYS,

the testers were particularly

impressed by the accuracy of

the robot, fast movements and

problem-free operation. As

soon as the robot detects an

obstacle and approaches it, an

acoustic warning sounds. This

was preset in the IFOY Test robot

in Chinese, but according to the

manufacturer it can be changed

to English. If the obstacle is not

removed in time or a person

does not leave the driving area

fast enough, the C200 stops in

front of it at a distance of 30

centimetres. This distance is

also adjustable.

Of course, with QR codes on the

ground there is a risk of getting

dirty or damaged after a while.

A clean working environment in

the building and regular checks

of the codes are therefore essential

in use.

The automatic industrial truck “Courier 3030“ from Raymond

Corporation, which can be used in both automatic and manual

has a lifting height of 1.800 millimetres and a load capacity of over

1.1 tonnes.

Unique in the material handling industry is the Seegrid Vision-

Guided technology. Thanks to this technology, the truck can move

freely. No changes to the infrastructure are required, which is an

extraordinary advantage according to the IFOY test team.

BY ANITA WÜRMSER

Ten cameras continuously monitor the environment and navigate

the system using contrast and an algorithm. The Courier 3030

uses image-guided technology to capture a 360-degree view of its

surroundings. It can map locations, identify obstacles and control

driving behaviour. The learning process is simple and intuitive

thanks to the clear display. Within minutes, the device learns new

routes or makes adjustments to existing tasks. This makes route

training easy, fast and entertaining.

Safe operation is made possible by two scanner cameras made by

the company Sick and a light curtain, which creates a 270-degree

“safety space“ around the front of the vehicle. This area can be

adapted to the environment so that obstacles are always

detected. The supervisor software of the Courier 3030

comes standard with the “iWAREHOUSE“ warehouse optimisation

system. It monitors the vehicle and prevents unauthorised use, for

example. A user-defined check before the start of each shift can

also be set up.

When integrated with the iWAREHOUSE system, any web-enabled

device can provide real-time location and status updates. This

way, the user gets insight into the operational processes of a

warehouse thanks to the data. The automatically generated

reports include short- and long-term data, reports on vehicle an

operator usage, and battery and maintenance information from

the entire fleet. In addition, the IFOY test vehicle is equipped with

a real-time location system (optional module) that locates the

system with metre accuracy. Based on the data, bottlenecks or

locations of possible collisions can be determined very easily. The

system prevents the vehicle from entering a zone to which it has

no access.

The Courier 3030 helps to maximise productivity and reduce

labour costs. Its innovative technology frees operators from

repetitive, monotonous tasks and reduces physical fatigue.

According to Raymond, the total cost of ownership (TCO) is

up to 25 percent lower than a vehicle with other navigation

technologies. Based on projects already completed, the average

return on investment (ROI) is one and a half years. The more than

200 systems in customer use have covered more than 4.3 million

kilometres and handled more than 3.6 million kilograms of goods.

Raymond puts the number of incidents at zero.

VERDICT OF THE INNOVATION CHECK

Manually operated pallet warehouses are not only in medium-sized

companies of high importance and in use in large numbers.

Especially for buffer warehouses, which are not very high, and

simple point-to-point transports, simple automation is the best

option. Raymond offers a solution for this with the Courier 3030

Automated Stacker, which has a vision-based navigation system.

This allows easy detection of the environment without the need for

additional infrastructure installations or attachments.

Commissioning is performed via a very simple teach-in. The target

positions are approached and the driven layout is also transferred

They are young, they are

innovative and they are

still in their infancy:

Around every start-up

company there is a

great inventive spirit,

the desire for groundbreaking

innovations,

the desire to achieve

great things. For the

second time, in 2020

the newcomers will have their very own place

at the IFOY AWARD.

The award, which is considered the most

important intralogistics award worldwide, can

be the starting signal for a very big career for

any start-up. Anita Würmser, chairwoman of

the IFOY Jury, sums it up: “Whoever is nominated

for the final or wins an IFOY AWARD

is known worldwide overnight.” The chance

to achieve worldwide fame and reputation

through performance is what makes the IFOY

AWARD so attractive, especially for young

companies. After all, the selection process

has the reputation of being among the toughest

in the world. A total of eight newcomers

applied to take part in the final, and only

every second start-up made it to the final

round. Whether shuttle, robot, AGV, drone,

cargo bike, software or hardware, all vehicles

and solutions that can be used in intralogistics

are welcome.

The following made it to the final round:

a manufacturer-independent fleet management

software for forklift trucks and

other intralogistics vehicles; a drone that, in

combination with an autonomous vehicle,

records warehouse stocks in pallet racking

warehouses completely independently; a

modular material flow system consisting of

hexagonal cells that revolutionises conveyor

technology; and a 100 percent contactless

cellumation

Thought around six corners: How

the celluveyor can effectively

Conveyor systems are

elementary for the

transport of goods, but

also rather inflexible.

The start-up team of

cellumation from Bremen,

which was founded

in 2017, is certain

that this does not meet

the requirements of

modern intralogistics.

Hendrik Thamer, Claudio Uriarte, Ariandy Yoga

Benggolo and Ivan Kuznetsov were guided by

football robots in their start-up idea. While

they watched them play with the ball, they

developed a vision: Why don’t we just turn

them upside down? That was the birth of the

“celluveyor”.

It easily moves packages on rollers in

all directions, left and right, forward and

backward, as required. In concrete terms,

a celluveyor consists of several hexagonal

cells. Like Lego bricks, these can be clicked

together to form any machine. Adapt material

flows at the push of a button? No longer a

problem with this idea. The company founders

from Bremen prove that it is possible to

realise all tasks of conveyor technology and

to define the function by software alone. In

»

The provision of totes, cartons and boxes as part of

the palletising process as well as the breaking up of layers

during depalletising are of great interest in a wide range of

applications in industry and trade. (...) The conveyor is robust

and suitable for industrial use and makes a very high-quality

impression both visually and technically. «

addition, the software is designed so simply

that anyone who can operate a mobile phone

can also control a celluveyor system.

In the long run, the celluveyor could be used

to replace mechanical conveyor belts that

are designed for a single, unchangeable task.

Furthermore, the application saves a lot of

space in a warehouse or a production hall:

According to the manufacturer, the celluveyor

requires up to 95 percent less space than

conventional material handling equipment.

on stock levels at all times, it

offers more.

It flies and flies and flies, and has an eye on all the stock in

warehouses with racks. “inventAIRy ® X” is the original combination

of a drone, 1D and 2D sensors, a 12-megapixel camera

and special data collecting software. The smart combination of

an AGV virtually as a mother ship and a drone as a free-flying

camera allows for maximum independent inventory recording.

Labels with extremely high degrees of freedom are recognised

and registered. Navigation and control is carried out from the

AGV, on which the drone can also land, if required.

The company behind the invention is doks. innovation, whose

solutions for intralogistics are designed to accelerate the digitalisation

of inventory recording and stocktaking processes, among other

things. The company was founded in 2017 in the vicinity of the Fraunhofer

Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (Fraunhofer IML). Since

2018, the company has had its headquarters in Kassel, Germany. At

the IFOY TEST DAYS in Hannover it was fun to watch the drone. Fully

autonomous, inventAIRy® X floats through the warehouse aisles.

VERDICT OF THE INNOVATION CHECK

A good application for drones, and a nice approach to inventory

management. The system records not only the stock situation,

but also other parameters such as storage temperature,

the condition of the packaging and even possible damage.

Among the many possibilities examined

for the sensible use of drones, automated

inventory has proven to be the most

successful idea of all. «

There it not only record the stock levels, but also other parameters

such as storage temperature, the condition of the packaging and even

possible damage. The data thus determined can be easily accessed

by warehouse staff using a handheld device. This enables incoming

and outgoing goods to be monitored, information on capacities to be

viewed and the latest stock information to be seen. The solution can

be used universally in all pallet rack warehouses. Thanks to interfaces

to all common ERP systems and WMS, the drone system can be

integrated into the existing infrastructure without great effort.

And the benefit? For the team at doks. innovation, the matter is clear:

Customers do not only save time but also costs by using inventAIRy ®

X. If the drone flies, only one employee needs to be present to monitor

the process and intervene in the event of a possible malfunction.

Another advantage of automated inventory recording is a lower error

rate. This is significantly lower compared to inventory recording by

human employees. The only challenge is: inventAIRy ® X needs to be

charged very often. In order to avoid this problem, the employees of

doks. innovation are already working on an optimised model.

Wiferion

Full of energy is etaLINK 3000,

a contactless wireless charging

system.

It is an innovation that could revolutionise

everyday life in the warehouse: At the IFOY

AWARD 2020, the Freiburg-based start-up

company Wiferion, formerly Blue Inductive,

presented the first market-ready and 100 percent

contactless wireless charging system

called “etaLINK3000” for industrial electric

vehicles. The system for the automatic

CAN-controlled charging of modern battery

systems enables fast and flexible installation

that no longer requires any infrastructure.

The charging process starts in less than

one second. Once the process is completed,

the Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) or the

forklift can continue and the system switches

off automatically.

According to the manufacturer, a special

feature of etaLINK 3000 is its outstanding

efficiency of 93 percent. Intermediate

charging of the batteries is also possible,

so that charging processes can be

flexibly integrated into the intralogistic

processes in the warehouse. Downtimes

are reduced, battery costs decrease and

the charging process is economical.

»

The history of Wiferion began in 2015, when

the four former Fraunhofer ISE researchers

(Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy

Systems) Benriah Goeldi, Johannes Mayer,

Florian Reiners and Johannes Tritschler from

Freiburg laid the foundation stone for the

future Blue Inductive GmbH. In October 2015

the etaLINK3000 product development started,

in April 2016 the company was founded.

Since 2018 the company has been in serial

production with the product and recently

changed its name to Wiferion. The customer

list is “impressive” according to the company.

The universal charging systems make a very robust

and industrial-suited impression, are really professionally

implemented and are therefore probably well suited for

long-term use. «

For companies etaLINK3000 can mean a

real cost saving. An intelligent distribution

of the charging cycles as well as a current

peak cut-off provide for significantly lower

costs in the buying of the battery as well

as in the cost for energy. The installation

takes place with the help of a plate.

VERDICT OF THE INNOVATION CHECK

Due to its adaptability to different systems (different batteries, charging strategies, battery

management etc.) the solution is very well applicable. It can be arranged directly in the process,

as there are no tripping points. The system is very well thought out right up to the user

interface.

NOT DUTY,

CULTURE

BY ANITA WÜRMSER

Sustainability is the keyword of the time.

What can the packaging industry itself

contribute to becoming more sustainable?

Commitment must come from the top, it must

be challenging but achievable. At CHEP, for example,

we have not only committed ourselves to

sustainable action since our founding, but also

to making our entire business model sustainable.

CHEP stands for pooling. Closed-loop recycling is the focus of

our activities. Our performance, and the way we produce it, should

be a benefit for our planet. We regard this not only as a duty, but

also as the culture of our company. .

Geraint Thomas,

European director

for sustainability at CHEP.

You offer a closed loop model for pallets and containers.

How does the CHEP pooling system differ from others on

the market?

CHEP stands for sustainability. Thanks to our share and reuse

model, customers can continuously share and reuse our products.

In this way we conserve natural resources compared

to disposable products. Another advantage is that we can

optimise our transport networks, which is a key requirement

for retailers and manufacturers of fast-moving consumer

goods. In this way, together with our customers, we make an

active contribution to reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Sustainability and sustainable action are two different

things. True sustainability does not come

for free either. What, for example, do your investments

in sustainability look like?

We focus on two areas. The last milestone was the launch of our

Zero Waste World programme. It enshrines a waste-free supply

chain as a goal in our corporate constitution, thus contributing to

a waste-free world. This is enormously challenging, and cannot

be achieved without an organisational change. We are investing

in our own team here in order to be able to develop sustainable

solutions with our customers more quickly. Investments in our

communities are also particularly important for us. The second

area therefore focuses on their continuous support. Here we

simply invest in time so that our employees can volunteer or share

their knowledge with each other. We also make financial and

personal commitments to food banks around the world - including

the European Federation of Banks and Food Products (FEBA).

CHEP is a long-standing container and pallet partner of the IFOY

AWARD. The Australian packaging specialist has been providing

all types of containers for the IFOY AWARD for seven years.

IFOY AWARD 2021: HOW TO MANAGE A

PROPER APPLICATION

More than 2,700 published technical articles in more than 360 magazines, coverage

in 32 countries, independent tests and innovation reports. The results of an IFOY

participation are impressive. Whoever makes it to the final becomes world-famous

in the logistics scene overnight. But how do you make it to the final? First of all you

have to apply, and that is quick. Here are the most important facts and steps.

By Thilo Jörgl and Anita Würmser

THE MOST

IMPORTANT

STEPS AT A

GLANCE

1Submit

application

(June - October)

For an IFOY AWARD,

manufacturers of conveyor

technology, intralogistics

and software providers

as well as start-ups with any number

of products or solutions can apply.

Anyone wishing to participate must first

register an application at www.ifoy.org.

All that is required are contact details

and the type and name of the product

or solution. This registration is necessary

because an individual input form is

created for each application, in which the

required data can be entered individually.

When registering an application, you have

the choice of entering one or more categories.

However, the IFOY categories are only

a theoretical selection which should give

the applicants an overview of which types

of products and solutions are basically

possible. In case of a nomination, the

IFOY organisation will decide on the final

allocation to a category at the TEST DAYS.

No later than 24 hours

after application, the access

data for the input form on the password-protected

applicant portal as well

as the conditions of participation with the

current fee overview will be sent by e-mail.

Application registration is free of charge

and without obligation. Only when the

data has been saved for the first time

and the conditions of participation have

been accepted an application is officially

in the running. From this point

on, fees will be charged in case of a

nomination. If a submitted product or

solution is not nominated, no fees will

be charged. The fees are set annually

and can be requested at the office.

Once submitted, an application cannot

be withdrawn by the applicant. In

exceptional cases and upon request

by e-mail, the jury may withdraw a

nomination. However, only if there are

serious reasons. These include insolvency

of the applicant, patent disputes,

quality problems or inability to deliver.

2Enter

application data

(June - October)

With their access data,

applicants can log in to

the applicant portal until

the end of the application phase and fill

out their entry form. During this phase,

the form is only visible to the respective

applicant, who can change and temporarily

store the contents at any time. Even

during data entry, applicants can see how

their application will look in the website

front-end.

This view will later be made available to

the IFOY jury and is public in case of a

nomination. The application form is kept

short and the text input is limited. An

application must be entered in German

and English. Essentially, the following

contents are the main focus of an application:

Intralogistics

(February)

The IFOY TEST

DAYS with the IFOY Audit and the

first event highlight of every IFOY

year.

IFOY AUDIT

All nominated vehicles and solutions

have to take part in the IFOY TEST

DAYS for the IFOY Audit. It consists

of the IFOY Test, the scientific

innovation check and the jury test.

The vehicles and solutions are

subjected to various assessments

and individually tailored driving or

functional tests, including the IFOY

test protocol comprising around 80

criteria. The decisive factor is that

the nominees are not compared with

each other, but with the products of

competitors on the market.

During the first five (non-public)

days all necessary tests will

take place in the IFOY Arena,

the central test area.

Only the finalists and

the test teams are

admitted. During
