Dear Friend,
I am writing to give you an update on the work donors have made possible in Puerto Rico since a series of
earthquakes struck the island in recent days, causing severe damage to hundreds of buildings and further
weakening the island’s fragile infrastructure. Parts of the island are still without electricity and access to clean
water. What’s more, thousands of our families in the affected areas are sleeping outside, out of fear their
homes will collapse if another earthquake strikes the region.
Hispanic Federation was able to respond immediately when the earthquakes hit. Our staff on the island
has spent the last four days working with nonprofit and corporate partners to:
Distribute thousands of solar lamps to families living without power
Provide emergency funds for local health and human service providers
Provide drinking water, food and personal hygiene supplies to tens of thousands of individuals in the
disaster epicenter
We will also invest one million dollars through our pioneering PATRIA initiative with the University of
Puerto Rico to ensure thousands of individuals have the mental health services they need to confront the
trauma of surviving two large natural disasters.
Our team in Puerto Rico will continue to work, day and night, on these and other relief efforts--and stands
ready to tackle emerging and evolving needs. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any
questions regarding the situation on the ground and our work. Your input is invaluable and essential for us.
We will continue to provide you with regular updates on our progress in Puerto Rico. Thank you for your
interest in our work and for supporting our people in Puerto Rico.
PUBLISHER'S WELCOME STATEMENT
Our New York Global.Biz Magazine proudly presents extraordinary Blacks and others in
our Black Wealth and All Else Black and Women's History Issue. Such excitement also
entails our Melba Moore cover story, since her starring role, as that vivacious petite Tony
Award winner in the hit Purlie Broadway musical. Decades ago, I saw my first Broadway
play, watching Melba's Purlie's role stunned thousands of guests. As journalist, Ellen
Shapiro's interview unfolds, brace yourself.
Wealth, according to Oxford's and Webster's dictionaries typically accounts for the
total market value of an individual's physical and intangible assets, before subtracting all
debts. Imagine why millions of debt-free persons thriving on their terms, enjoy more
financial freedom than some seven figures millionaires? While reading some articles,
determine which appropriate category applies to that person you're reading about, either
enjoying: financial wealth = money; social wealth = status; time wealth = freedom;
physical wealth = health.
NYGBs Black Wealth and All Else...Black and Women's history highlights remarkable
African-Americans among the nation's leading and fast-growing segment of businesses
creating, designing, distributing, healing, inventing, marketing, motivational and production
entrepreneurs realizing financial independence and prosperous part-time or full-time
businesses.
Specifically, our empowerment magazine focuses on introducing or, again,
familiarizing NYGB readers objectively with trail-blazing, trend-setting persons, soon
fulfilling our quest for more dynamic well distributed Black magazines. To such degree,
motivating Black Generation X'ers, millennials and others to drop the N word from their
spoken vocabulary. Re-invigorating our homes, job sites, hotels, spas. mega drug stores
and supermarkets with more Black magazines will multiply and adequately confirm that
our combined U.S. net worth for Black Americans, is more than just 4%, immeasurably
higher with our 12-14% U.S. population.
Contrary racist statistics will minimize when more visible Black media, sets the record
straight. Since the 19th Century, America's Black Press assumed responsibility for
motivating and leading Blacks from slavery, initially advocated in Northern abolitionist
newspapers. An influx of Black newspapers circulated in the U.S., at the start of the 20th
Century, during that Jim Crow era, namely; the 110-year-old New York Amsterdam News,
The Chicago Defender, Detroit Free, Philadelphia Courier, etc., until Civil Rights became
law. The Negro Digest and Black World arrived during the late 1930s, followed by Ebony
and Jet Magazines in the 1950s. During the 1970s Encore, Essence, Black Enterprise
Magazines, plus NYCs Daily Challenge, The Black American, Big Red/Beacon, Caribbean
News, and New Jersey's Forum newspapers, etc, plus hundreds of Black news/ journals
nationwide. The 1980's Chocolate Singles, Upscale, Sister-to-Sister, Black Sports and
1990's Black Elegance, Gladiator, Vibes and haircare and other Hip Hop media
paradigms, signified the viability of Black is Beautiful; Not Pitiful. Help advocate the need
for more Black on-line and print media. Our distribution plan is ready for expansion.
Lastly, life is amazing. Keep trailblazing!
ALNIESHA CARTER, FIRST
BLACK WOMAN-OWNED TAX
FRANCHISE SYSTEM IN THE U.S.
Alniesha Carter, is CEO/Founder of Tax
Prep Evolution,TPE. Her company's current
impact in the U.S., marks a beginning for
entrepreneurs, unaware that her tax business
offers more lucrative financial prosperity
than what has typically been unavailable.
Entrepreneurs interested in establishing a
tax business may become a Virtual TPE
Tax Preparer or TPE Franchise Owner. TPE
provides a bona fide gateway for Blacks
and others to affordably profit by
professionally preparing taxes.
In recent years, Ms. Carter, a long-time
tax professional owner of her tax firm hired
several tax preparers, also achieved her
goals to help employees and entrepreneurs
endeavoring to own a tax business.
By 2015, Alniesha established and
licensed her business model and partnered
with other business-oriented individuals
sharing her vision and the TPE brand. As a
result, multiple TPE transitioned tax offices
open in various states.
Given this pivotal moment in Alniesha's
career, her transparent entrepreneurial spirit
is worth acknowledging and celebrating as
America's first Black woman-owned tax
franchise system. Recently, Ms. Lona
Gibson, TPE's Chief Administrator explained
how diligently and affordable TPE tax
franchises are prospering. Franchisees are not
simply provided due to a person's ability to
pay because the growing demand for a TPE
franchise attributes to competitive tax
franchise costs and extensive management
support services. Therefore, determined
prospective franchise owners not only receive
a review of how well TPE helps franchisers
operate, but they must learn how the U.S.
IRS' tax system operates, in order to analyze,
calculate and process individual tax refunds
and tax claims, before fully operating their
TPI tax franchise.
Despite her prestige, Chicago native, Ms.
Carter's humble entrepreneurial beginnings,
prepared her for success and endurance,
necessary to overcome challenges she may
confront on any given day. She's that
successful restauranteur who superbly
managed her truck fleet enterprise that hauled
freight nation-wide. Her trajectory is the
result of how well her entrepreneurial acumen
serves others, as currently witnessed.
Overall, Alneisha's TPEs
franchise model affirms its
commitment to guide entrepreneurs
with start-ups that will become their
stable and profitable tax preparation
business. TPE's future plans include
assisting over 100 women and men
in obtaining financial freedom by
creating TPE franchise owners
across the nation. Visit
BLACK ENTREPRENEURS LIKE
THIS RIDE SHARE APP BETTER
THAN UBER AND LYFT
23-YEAR OLD
FORMER MODEL TURNED
FASHION DESIGNER FOR
HIS EDGY DESIGNS
Everyone knows about Uber and
Lyft, but there's Tryp, a new ride
share company that is becoming
especially popular with Black and
other minority entrepreneurs. It's
the only ride share platform that
allows drivers to keep 100% of
their fares plus tips.
Why another ride share
platform?
An increasing number of Uber and
Lyft drivers are unhappy because
both companies continue to take
larger shares of their drivers'
profits. For this reason, in many
cities around the world, drivers
have protested and some have
even gone on strike.
Both companies have gone public
on the New York Stock Exchange,
and many drivers feel that the
companies have become greedy.
In the beginning, they cleverly
lured drivers with handsome offers
to make more money, but now
they seem to be only interested in
pleasing their shareholders.
How is Tryp different?
Tryp is different because it's not a
publicly-traded company, so there
are no shareholders to please.
Secondly, as already mentioned,
Tryp allows their drivers to keep
100% of their fares plus tips.
Drivers also get their own
merchant account which allows the
money they earn to be deposited
into their bank account on the same
day.
Even more, unlike other ride share
apps, drivers can also build a "book
ofbusiness" allowing riders to save
them as favorites via the app and
request them again in the future.
So what's the catch?
Many ask how Tryp generates
revenue if they allow their drivers to
keep 100% of the fares?. Here's the
catch: Tryp charges drivers a
reasonably low flat monthly fee of
up to
$199.99. That's it!
There's more!
In addition to having a very
different business model that favors
the drivers, Tryp is giving all
drivers who come on board early
the opportunity to earn stock
options in the company. Black
entrepreneurs often lose out on tech
investment opportunities, but being
a Tryp driver allows them to easily
gain equity in the company.
Even more, people who have a past
criminal record can get a second
chance with this opportunity.
Become a part of the next big thing!
(Tryp will officially launch in
August 2019 and will be in 100
cities by 2020.)
"Marie wasn't successful in landing a spot on the
other major cities. "Without a doubt,
this win provides a model and business
and capabilities to large municipalities
HOOKED ON BOOKS
With over 35 years experience and 452
fuel delivery trucks, ACE's CEO and
Founder Moses Shepherd, linked a
multi-million dollar deal with the City of
Detroit. This five year multi-million
dollar historic contract for ACE
Petroleum, Detroit's first Black and
minority owned company entails ACE
fuel deliveries for the city's fleet of
police cars, fire truck, buses, emergency
medical services and other vehicles.
Shepherd's contract award occurred two
years since ACE certified as Michigan's
only Black-owned fuel suppler.
Too few Detroit businesses during
the past 30 years have surpassed ACEs
transparent Detroit's revitalization
initiatives and contributions. On record,
Moses, is an infrastructure trailblazer
CEO, of the ACE Investment Group's,
LLC real estate investment firm. 2003
was remarkable for ACE, noted with
several of it's exclusive purchases and
revitalizations properties in Detroit. To
date ACE Investments lists hundreds of
duplexes, apartment buildings and single
and multi-family homes purchases.
Headquartered on Detroit's
Northwest side, ACE respectively hires
"Detroit only employees" for it's fuel
supplier's operations. It's innovative
government agencies and commercial
end users fuel solution, as a premier
national fuel supplier's reliable carrier
and experienced logistics team network.
As a certified Minority Business
Enterprise by Michigan's Minority
Supplier Development Council and
National Minority Supplier Development
Council, ACE also provides various fuel
services for other municipalities,
government agencies and commercial end
users. "This is a major milestone for ACE
Petroleum and my hometown," said
Shepherd.
"We've worked hard for two years to
grow our competencies, quality metrics
and infrastructure to service large
municipalities and compete on a national
level. The city's confidence in our abilities
to deliver the comprehensive fuel services
needed to support, protect and serve
Detroiters, is rewarding and validates our
efforts."
Detroit City Council President
Brenda Jones states,"My office is
committed to work to ensure the growth
of Detroit-based, minority-owned
businesses." ACE Petroleum will provide
fuel services in support of essential
departments such as police, firefighters
and EMS. This partnership helps reinforce
the procurement goals I sponsored in
2018, to engage Detroit entrepreneurs and
businesses."
Shepherd also complimented the
pleasure of working with the city of
Detroit's professional procurement
organization led by Chief Procurement
Officer Boysie Jackson. He announced
how ACE will strategically leverage this
opportunity to seek contracts with Atlanta,
at one of their table's pristine white
serene vivacious ambiance which included
Italian art and yesteryear's pop culture's
black and white photos of famous Italian
stars, plus four consecutive-annual Best
Cara Mia's fine Italian wine, paired well
with their succulent homemade Crocchette
Di Granchio's warm crab cakes, corn and
avocado appetizers and Pratoli Ripieni's
SYLVIA'S 1962 HARLEM'S
FAMOUS OLDEST RESTAURANT
DINING AND ENTERTAINMENT FASHION
New Year's Day, January 1, 2020, was a surreal celebration at
Harlem's busy Sylvia's restaurant, after I joined my son my out-ofstate
son and his guest headed to Sylvia's. Arriving an hour and a
half before closing, had much to do Sylvia's typical
accommodations, as the only Black owned Harlem restaurant
opened beyond 7 pm, on that holiday.
My son barely omitted yummy words while devouring his
steak and exotic seasoned tender Black Eyes peas. It earned his
high marks, as his best New Year's eve meal in years since my
mom/his grandmother served him Black Eye peas, over 20 years
ago. He believes eating Black Eye peas on January 1, brings good
luck, as Rosetta Tyus, my mom/his grandmother told him, as
similarly told her children as a Black American tradition. After he
insisted we'd sample his Black Eye peas, I slightly regretted not
ordering them and other items listed on Sylvia's enticing
reasonable-priced menu. Continental cuisine dishes were as
plentiful as this venue's former soul food's listings on it's
seemingly, fresh off the press classy menu. I silently envisioned
quickly returning to Sylvia, to order shrimps and grits, and some
other dishes.
Sylvia's pretty green tasty vegan collard greens, fluffy firm
and cheesy macaroni and corn-bread requiring no butter, emerged
as my best. among best, since eating cornbread at another famous
Black restaurant, years ago.
Before long, my son detected how I had begun secretly
exploiting what kept me eating more of this restaurant's
cornbread. "Mom, it looks like that's all you came here for, you
already had two slices." My son told me. We all laughed.
I suggested they'd help themselves because Sylvia's cornbread
is free. As he and his guests quickly placed more cornbread on
their plates, I explained that Sylvia's thoughtful and handsome
aged 40 something Black male, wasted no time returning with
another cornbread basket, which occurred after he said it was free,
because I asked him how much Sylvia charges for more
cornbread? Why would you do that Mom, knowing I'm treating
you and you're not paying the tab?
Momentarily, his guest and I peered at him eating another
slice of cornbread. Nor did we avoid laughing when he came up
for air, announcing. "I'm glad you finally told us about Sylvia's
free cornbread." By then, the jokes was on him.
Blast of the past reminisces about Sylvia's past 58 years entails
packed-house dining rooms, especially on weekends and after
Apollo Theater shows, two blocks over on 125th Street in Harlem,
since its pre-Harlem Renaissance years through 1977. That was
when the original Apollo, was New York City's famous, top,
difficult to rival music and comedy home to talented amateurs and
fabulous Black jazz and R&B stars. Harlem residents among
visitors surrounded the Apollo with its plethora of Black sports
legends, business owners, politicians, academians and clergy
included, on any given day. On a 1960s Easter Monday, together
with my NJ friends, still celebrating by standing in front of the
Apollo theater, we not only saw the Temptations, but recklessly
ran back stage and upstairs and met Eddie Kendricks, David
Ruffin and the Temptations. Outside, we were among
photographers and several people people gazing and admiring
those great Apollo posters and marquee
Meanwhile, cozy, sought after Sylvia's Restaurant's spirit of
the Apollo presence, before it closed in 1977 and 33 years since
the late Percy Sutton, Inner-City Broadcasting, Borough of
Manhattan President and noted U.S. Congressman Charlie
Rangel, revived the Apollo from its 125th Street's bleakness
enduring six years of it's blighted near future demised.
Amid the Apollo's six year closing by the 1980s, more
tourists and locals alternately flocked to internationally
acclaimed Sylvia's awe-inspiring restaurant's gathering venue.
Some as hopefuls endeavoring to meet or spot top Black TV and
radio news personalities, actors, attorneys, authors, clergy,
general contractors, civic leaders, educators, health
practitioners, journalists, and notably President Obama, Rev. Al
Melba Moore The Day I Turned To You
By: Eileen Shapiro
Tony Award winning singer, actress and
Broadway superstar Melba Moore is set to
unveil her newest inspirational release, "The
Day I Turned to You", on December 13, 2019
which is already available for pre-sale at
Amazon Music.
Born into a musical family, (saxophonist
Teddy Hill and R&B singer Bonnie Davis),
Melba Moore began her career in 1967, when
she recorded "Magic Touch", which became a
huge track on the Northern Soul Scene. That
same year she also began performing as Dionne
in the original cast of "Hair" alongside Ronnie
Dyson and Diane Keaton. In 1970, Moore won
a Tony Award for Best Performance by a
Featured Actress in "Purlie" for her role as
Lutiebelle. This was followed by two film roles,
and a release of two successful albums. She
starred in films including, "All Good Dogs Go
To Heaven", and "The Fighting Temptations",
and appeared on television on "The Melba
Moore Show." Moore was also the first female
pop and R&B artist to perform a non-operatic
solo concert at New York City's Metropolitan
Opera House.
I had a charming and uplifting conversation
with Ms. Moore regarding her new album, her
faith, and her aspirations for the future...she was
kind, warm and candid.. with an adorable sense
of humor. She is also a triumphant storyteller..
I love your new Single "Calle Me', the duet
with Shirley Murdock. What inspired your
recording of that?
I had lost everything at that time, in the late 90s.
I discovered that I was a Born Again Christian.
But, I discovered it kind of privately. I really
didn't have a church-based outlet and then when
I tried to get sacred music, I really had to start
from scratch. First of all I'm Catholic, and I'm
still Catholic and that music isn't very popular
music. People do not want to hear opera. So, I
reached out to people. I was in the church
community because I was invited to one of the
first gospel musicals before Tyler Perry started
doing gospel music. Michael Matthews who
started this thing told me to do a gospel play.
So, I was out on the road with a bunch of
"saved people". I knew that's what changed
about me because I was saved, otherwise I I
wasn't around anybody and I wasn't part of any
church or anything. But all they did was praise
Photographer: Alan Mercer
praise God all day, even the bus driver. I was
in a very strange and unique place. I
discovered this and of course I was out on the
road with singer Shirley Murdock. Of course, I
knew her voice and everything, but not as a
woman of God. I asked her if she could write
something for me so that I could share my
testimony. I didn't even know at that point
what a testimony was. Then I discovered in the
secular world they just call it your
autobiography. It was a whole New World and
Shirley said that she had come to see me in
"Purlie". She said I was so nice to her so she
and her husband, Dale DeGroat created some
things for me, and she really didn't charge me.
They told me I could do whatever I wanted
with it. So, it's all these years later that I'm
going to have a real distribution and it's going
to be on my label, and the distribution is
SONY and these are all major people. But I
was just doing this because I am an artist, I
mean God made me that, and I needed to
express myself. That was the inspiration.
Yes, that's because I am. That's my job now.
That's a good job to have. You're also
embarking on a project beginning
now until February? That's for
Norwegian Cruise Lines. That's not
Gospel. This ship is called The Escape,
they have many, and they do
international Major entertainment
cruises. I'm going to be the star of the
Broadway production that they are
featuring called, "After Midnight."
That sounds like fun. You've had a
very interesting career. You're a
Broadway Tony winner, you're a
recording artist, film star, what were
some of the challenges you had to
face?
That's a good question. The greatest
challenge is learning how things really
work. I come from a family of artists,
we are African American. So, in some
ways, we are trying to catch up
commercially and culturally, with the
rest of the population because we came
here as slaves. When I really think about
it, I was probably among the first in my
family of our generation to go to college
or even finish high school. Everything
within the culture is self-taught for
example my parents traveled on the road
in a time when black people couldn't
stay in hotels or even go to the
bathroom. But, we lived in New York
City.
New York City was different. You
have kind of a combination of the
cultures that we experience as African-
American people. The biggest challenge
was learning business. Most African-
Americans whatever talent or skill they
had we still knew nothing about
commerce. We didn't get any education
so whatever we learned was stolen
knowledge. For many years it was
against the law for us to read or write, to
vote, to own property, to get paid for the
work we did. It hasn't really been that
long that African-Americans couldn't
get paid for recordings. So, the greatest
challenge for me both as a woman, as an
African-American and as an artist was
to learn the partnership of business.
That's a difficult thing for a lot of
NEWYORK GLOBAL.BIZ ...Black Wealth and all Else
19

DINING AND ENTERTAINMENT FASHION
people to learn. It's very difficult for anyone. Especially if you
have a desire or a hobby or something that you like to do, you
fall in love with that and you spend all your time and focus with
that, but in real life you've got to make a living. That's the first
thing and there is a way to go about that. It is very difficult, but
I think it's three or four or five times more difficult for an
African-American because we were denied the privilege or the
freedom, it was against the law. We don't know the basics of
making a living right away and we learn by hard knocks.
Unfortunately, many artists don't realize the business part of it
until it's too late. Absolutely. We've come such a long way. If
we know that we need to do that and focus on that then as the
Bible says, "your latter days will be better than your formal
days." If you pass that on to everybody the whole world in the
whole culture is better for it.
I take it you go to church now?
Oh yeah!!! I'm still Catholic and the reason I'm Catholic is
because the Catholic church is the first Christian church that
Jesus started. I'm not a preacher or an evangelist, I'm still an
artist and I'm not trying to push you any way.
Sometimes it's a good conversation to have with someone
who will have it back with you. In the meantime, have you
had your ultimate stage fantasy yet? If so, what was it and
if not what would have to happen?
No, I would like to be on the stage again as a top, top, top
recording artist. I'm going to be with the top recording artists, it
could be intimate or whatever, but to be able to have everything
I need consistently, maybe for a whole year, good sound, good
light, full house, media ...
I think that is going to happen for you, the single is
awesome. At he moment you're still doing theater and
you're recording. Are you working on any new projects
even though your album hasn't even come out yet? I was
wondering if you had something else in mind?
Absolutely. Books ... that's something I haven't done yet. It
kind of documents, culminates and categorizes all the different
things that have happened to you for all of these decades. I'd
like to document them and put them down for my family and
for my human family. I'd like to leave some kind of record that
I was here.
What would you like your legacy to be?
She did well and she passed it on.
Is there anything else that you'd like to tell me that I
haven't asked you?
Well, I mentioned Shirley Murdock. There are about three cuts
on this album that she and her husband gave to me. Her
husband is named Dale DeGroat, and I want to give him credit
for what he gave to me. They wrote this single which is so
outstanding. I mean how dare I, a Broadway star do a duet with
Shirley Murdock. Nobody would ever think of that
combination, including me, but it happened. The other two
songs that they wrote are called, "I'm Still Here" which is a
testimony about what happened to me and how I had to test
my faith. In a very simple way. In a Pentecostal way I'll put it.
Another song is called, "Praise Yah", the name of Jehovah.
Also there is a wonderful rendition of a song I've always
wanted to do, "Precious Our Lord", written by one of our
African-American golden artists by the name artists by the
name of Dunn Pierson. A couple of others that have been stand
out songs overtime are included and the title cut, "The Day I
Turned to You", was written by a wonderful songwriter and
producer Mr. Herbert Middleton. All these people contributed
the songs and I wasn't able to pay for them. They donated these
things to me, and now that they are actually going to be
popular, and make money so I'll be able to pay them back.
There is another wonderful and joyful dance sacred song called
"Champions." Then there was another one that I think it's really
inspirational in the terms of brothers and sisters called, "Rise
My Sister."
Gospel music is becoming popular now, it's actually
trending. Yeah. I agree.
Where will it be available aside from the digital platforms?
I know it's available for pre-sale on Amazon and I know it's
going to be released December 13th.
Right. But it's going to be available in Walmart, Kmart, and
Barnes and Noble.
That's huge.
That's major. So I'm going from minor to major. Should I say
I'm going back to major to put it musically. It's also on
downloads and uploads and whatever other kind of loads there
could be. Then there is one more song that is very, very
important. They call it "The Negro National Anthem." I know
we don't call ourselves Negro anymore but at the time that it
was done which is over 100 years ago we were the only people
publicly in the world that did not have a song or a national
anthem that identified us because we came here as slaves.
I didn't know that.
Well that's our history. So it isn't important that you know it,
but many of us don't know it. That's why it's important. Dr.
Dorothy Height she's very important being a woman and
making these things known to our population first of all.
Because we were denied education a lot of us don't know our
own history. The song is called, "Lift Up Your Voice and
Sing", and because of its importance Dr. Height was able to
help me with the National Black Caucus to get it into the
Congressional records. Now it is the official as we call it Black
"National Anthem." It's not an anthem it's a sacred song.
Two weeks before 2020 arrived New York State
"I am thrilled for the name changes of the MTA's
Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, I am honored to have
Evers College is a staple for our district and serves as a
door of opportunity for our students. Its impact on our
community is being celebrated and receiving the
recognition that it deserves."
The S3439A Senate bill for both stations near
Medgar Evers College, also recognize the college's
contribution to the community honoring the Medgar
"Renaming the Franklin and President subway
put one of our community's most cherished institutions
on the map. said Senator Zellnor Y. Myrie. "We are so
pleased that Governor Cuomo has signed this bill into
by extension, renaming of the subway stations reflects
the profound contribution that Medgar Evers College has
"My concern about baby boys who don't speak as well as
baby girls, motivated me to not let my son grow up like that,"
explained Andrea, whose 20 years in working with children,
includes "play therapy" after inquiring about her essentially
three year olds to multiply.
Andrea has also written two books, also sold on Amazon:
thought it was very well written, and the flow was perfect. The
book flowed seamlessly from one chapter to the next, and I felt
like it was organized perfectly." -Stacey Kopp
"This is a wonderful guidebook for parents who want to help
their children begin learning at an early age through play. It is an
introduction on how to nurture a love of learning and proficiency
in reading in children, which in turn will open the door for your
child to be exposed to and learn about a variety of topics. Andrea
incorporates several learning styles in order to pave the way for a
lifetime of learning. I look forward to incorporating some of these
techniques into playtime with my little learners." -Danielle J.
"This book documents the journey of an engaged parent who
used creative and fun ways to introduce her son to books. This led
to the child's continuous interest in letters, words, sentences and
naturally, reading. If you are willing to invest the time in
incorporating the tips in this book with your child, he or she will
also develop an interest in books and learn to read during the
early stages of brain development. This book is an excellent
example of the African Proverb "Each One Teach One."-Linsey
THE ENTREPRENEUR
GAME BONDING ADULTS
AND CHILDREN
Game provides fun, educational interactive family competitions
for ages 12 to adults, requiring 2-6 players, who journey around
this classic style board game. Players are a Founder and CEO of
their own home-based or brick & mortar business determined to
grow their business empire, via marketing, budgeting, investing,
decision-making and negotiating deals - while avoiding
bankruptcy. The first person who wins, as a millionaire,
becomes The Entreprenuers' "mogul of the game."
Filled with excitement, The Entrepreneur Game expands
players imagination; helps them explore wonders and face
challenges occurreing upon starting and growing their business,
inside the comfort of their home. Adolescents and adults visions
peak while creating building and growing their empire.
Competitors experience estatic fun, vying to build their best
winning business. All games are different, therefore people
continuously play to sharpen their skills to create steady growth.
By the end of the game, whoever has more cash and non-cash
assets wins. Upon becoming a millionaire champ, rival players
must state the winner's name and repeat; "You are an incredible
entrepreneur, please teach me your wisdom." Visit: https://
Elliott Eddie, founder of The Entrepreneur Game
Finally The Entrepreneur Game invented by Elliott Elliott, the
dynamic international public speaker, has already reached adults
and children. This rather mind-boggling game entice adults and
children together to competitively create a successful mortar homebased
business. However, "Be careful. This game could lead to
increased confidence, competence, goal-setting and aspirations to
live an incredible life!" warns Eddite.
In effect, The Entrepreneur Game's EE is Elliott Eddie's
trademark teaching tool... creating the resurgence of family and
friends board game nights. This board game speaks volumes,
referencing his successful entrepreneurial, public speaking and
teaching career. As the proud owner of several debt-free businesses,
Elliott's .passion for helping others materialized as a board game.
It's his method of spreading professional business knowledge and
helps develop confidence required by persons considering becoming
"captain of an industry" as he describes them - particularly persons
in our under-served and forgotten communities.
"This is what I love to do!" said Elliott. "We may learn a few
things in school, but one of the unlikely subjects we've been taught
is entrepreneurship: how to create and build successful businesses
of our own. Many of our schools barely teach our children the skills
they need to survive. We owe it to our children and all of our
futures, to make sure they know that they are capable of creating a
successful business. To make sure our children know that they can
take their skills, talents and ideas to find a problem and solve it, to
find a need and fill it, or to create a market and build it. Our children
must grasp that among all of the things they can be now, and as they
grow up, becoming an entrepreneur is definitely within their grasp."
Since his September 2018 Kick Starter tipped scales, in less
than five hours, Elliott's brainchild has garnered global attention.
The Entrepreneur game raised almost three times its target amount,
in eight countries. Canada's 180 Toys R Us in Canada has requested
a price list of the game in French. EE Speaks' The Entrepreneur
TWO RN SISTERS INVENTION HELPS
PATIENTS, FAMILIES, AND CAREGIVERS
Peggy Cauthen & Cathy Foster, founders of JP Healthcare Solutions and the creators of the EZ Lift Vest ®
Registered nurses and sisters Peggy Cauthen and Cathy Foster,
Principals and Founders of JP Health Care Solutions recently
revealed what inspired their already patented uniquely stylish
EZ Lift Vest, sold in the U.S. and Canada. "Our journey
started after graduating from high school, somewhat uncertain
about our future career plans. Sharing such uncertainty with our
mom, resulted in her surprised announcement that she always
wanted to be a nurse. Needless to say, respecting our mom's
wisdom, motivated both of us to pursue nursing careers, and we
can honestly say that nursing became more than a career for us,
but rather a calling.
"We did not anticipate circumstances that would alter our
career. For years, we thought we were prepared for anything
pertinent to our profession, until we became caregivers for our
Mom. Peggy and I found this experience to be a little different
because she was not just a patient. Caring for Mother, was
personal because she was our loving Mother and our patient."
Cathy described how caring for their Mother became
physically challenging for all of them. "Those repetitive
moments such as transferring her from bed to a chair or lifting
her from a sitting to a standing position were, too often,
physically and emotionally draining, We tediously performed
strenuous physical health care tasks. We soon realized the need
for safer and more secure ways to avoid injuring our mother
and ourselves caused by frequent lifting, pulling and tugging
her, while attempting to avoid creating bruises, skin tears an
possible painful dislocations to our Mom's shoulders." They
also became accustomed to simultaneously and awkwardly
NEWYORK GLOBAL.BIZ ...Black Wealth and all Else
working hard to avoid their own risky joint and back injuries.
"Despite our extensive research for alternative options, none
of of them sufficiently suited our needs. As determined daughters
and nurses, out of exhaustion and sheer desperation, we devised
and created our own solution," Peggy recalls.
"Finally, we were happy that our overwhelming time consuming
meetings, consultations and facility trials resulted in receiving
three U.S. Government Patents for our EZ Lifts Vests."
Phenomenally the EZ Lift Vest includes a wealth of
testimony regarding the E_Z Lift Vest's invention. It minimizes
the challenges endured by patients, health care workers and also
nursing professionals like themselves, former care provider. EZ
Lift Vest's durable versatile quality product, enables safer and
easier means of assisting mobility challenged patients, while
enhancing patients, loved ones and caregivers' quality of life,
with their safe patient handling, E-Z Vest, during various
repositioning and transfer maneuvers.
"Established in 2013 our JP Solutions products, available in
different sizes are proudly manufactured in the U.S. and sold
year-round in 48 states and Canada. Our JP Health care
Solutions business' name was affectionately chosen in honor and
memory of Julia Pearl. our precious mother." Peggy affirmed.
"Our special needs son who is now 42, has, on occasion needed some
help with using a gait belt. But, this past Thanksgiving our son slipped
in house and broke his leg and required surgery. The recovery has been
very slow and very tough with assisting this grown young man with
mobility. Then we saw your EZ Lift Vest®. At first I thought it would
make little difference. But, how wrong was I. This vest allows me to
walk behind our son and assist him in walking and right him regardless
of how he is leaning. This is due to great construction of the vestand
the many fabric handles to grab on. This has saved my back over and
Tomina Ward, founder of the Black
Therapy, Love app
Recognizing that exposing some painful things in your past in
an effort to heal is a first step many want to take but just aren't
comfortable in doing so. Within the African American
community, one of biggest hindrances includes opening up to
a therapist that neither looks like them, nor can relate
culturally. This is something Tomina Ward can attest to.
An accomplished Career Counselor, Ward shares how she
previously sought the assistance of a mental health clinician,
for which she experienced counseling with a Black and White
therapist. She felt at ease believing the Black therapist who
ethnically looked like her, would understand her and looked
forward to that therapist's help.
As time progressed, Ward found herself at a place in her
life where she would again need the guidance of a mental
health clinician. Usually when she has difficulties of this
nature, Ward shared that she normally turns to the trusted App
Store. "I immediately went to search for an app that would
connect the Black community with Black therapists. I couldn't
find one," she recalls. This experience motivated her to
become the Founder and CEO of an app that would bridge the
gap between potential clients and mental health clinicians. It's
called Black Therapy Love.
"I understand the stigma in the Black community. I
understand how we don't want to share our personal business
as this translates to some of why we sometimes suffer in
silence. Black Therapy Love provides a place where those
seeking services can interact with therapists, counselors, and
coaches opening the dialogue and bridging the gap between
mental health professionals and the Black community.
There's a directory that differs from a basic directory,
where the user in turn can click on the therapist's information,
hear a video message from the professional, and be led to their
website or business information to book appointments," Ward
explains. Though in its infancy stages, the app has already
received rave reviews on lnstagram with "Much needed," and
"This is an amazing idea," comments. Visit:
AFRICA'S GLOBAL FUND BENEFIT RAISED
$14 BILLION WITH MC, FRANCE'S
PRESIDENT MACRON
By: Abu-Jahli/ Astrid Chacha
October 9-10, 2019 in Lyon, France, the Global Fund for
Aids,Tuberculosis and Malaria fund-raiser reached $14 Billion for
the first time, the highest amount ever amassed by a multilateral
health organization. The Global Fund proclaimed 2019 "a record
year", during the "Global Fund's Sixth Replenishment
Conference" hosted by the government of France. Through 2022,
these funds will accelerate prevention and treatment for Africans
suffering from Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria epidemics. The
Global Fund's goal is to end this epidemic by 2030.
Before that huge assembly of officials, world leaders, civil
society leaders, diplomats, CEOs, activists, philanthropists and
people affected by these diseases. Global Fund's MC, France's
President Emmanuel Macron's eloquent speech resonated with
passion. "I won't let anyone leave this room, or Lyon, until the $14
billion is reached!"
A few hours later, the governments of Ireland, New-Zealand,
Australia, Luxembourg, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab
Emirates, Armenia and Azerbaijan responded with huge
donations. Contributions were also received from new donors: The
Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Central African
Republic, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Burundi, Niger,
Burkina-Faso, Monaco, Malta, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, Greece
and Ukraine. France, The United States Congress, United
Kingdom, Canada, European Union, and Japan largely participated.
"Everyone in the room today felt the power of a incredible
support of partners and donors around the world, we succeeded in
reaching over US$14 billion to help save 16 million lives,"
exclaimed Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund.
Private donors, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bono, Dato
Sri, Dr. Tahir, Comic Relief, Takeda. Children's InvestmentFund
Foundation the Rockefeller Foundation and 11 other partners,
likewise, manifested with 23 African countries.
According to the World Health Organization, Africa is the most
dramatically devastated continent with Aids, Malaria and TB.
Nineteen countries in
sub-Saharan Africa and India comprised nearly 85% of the total
number of Malaria cases in the world. The most cases of Malaria
(213 million or 93%) were recorded in 2018 in the WHO Africa
region, far ahead of South-East Asia's region
(3.4%) and the Eastern Mediterranean region (2.1%).
Approximately 85% of Malaria deaths worldwide in 2018 were
concentrated in 20 countries in the WHO Africa region and India.
Concerning Aids, Africa is still the continent ravaged with two out
of three infections among the 36.7 million people infected
worldwide.
African countries received two billion US dollars additional
funds at this year's charity. West and Central Africa received their
largest increase of 780 million US dollars.
Whereas the Rockefellers' family dynasty was the
leading Republican wealthy family that finance
southern education schools for Negroes from 1930
through 1960, Governor Nelson Rockefeller's
admiration for King was without boundaries. For
nearly 20 years, he patronized Dr. King's family,
including sending money to release him and his
colleagues from jail; paying some of their legal
expenses; paying for Mrs. Scott's airfare for one of
Dr. King's speaking engagement; welcoming him to
NYC to speak before the U.N., where 500,000
people gathered to hear Dr. King.
HOWARD WOOLLEY,
SICKLE CELL ADVOCATE
AND PHILANTHROPIST
RECEIVED OUTSTANDING
SERVICE AWARD
Howard Woolley, the Sickle Cell Advocate and Philanthropist
who regards publishin'g his '1ate wife, Gail Campbell Woolley's
SOAR memoir, among most significant accomplishments
received a Sickle Cell Outstanding Service Award during the
2019 Roland B. Scott Memorial Symposium. SOAR'S memoir
by by Gail Campbell Woolley, who passed in 2015, depicts her
battle with SCD, since her early childhood.
At that Howard University's Center for Sickle Cell Disease,
founded by Dr. Roland Scott, Woolley's prestigious award was
quite fitting. Whereas Dr. Scott was Howard University's
Chairman of Pediatrics from
1949-1973, in 1972 he established Howard's Center for Sickle
Cell Disease and remained Director until hisl990 retirement. In
Dec. 2003, Dr. Scott, aged 93, passed with congestive heart
failure.
Thanks to SOAR, Howard continue to reveal his wife's Gail's
story. Woolley published her novel posthumously in 2017. Since
then he has traveled from Sickle Cell Symposiums to Sickle Cell
Conferences spreading his late-wife's story of "SOARING above
a dim prognosis" . Gail was told at seven years old that she
wouldn't live past the age of 35. Proving her doctors wrong, Gail
lived a full life until age 58, battling the disease while
experiencing a successful career and marriage. Ignoring her
diagnosis, Gail soared above her diagnosis and obstacles. As a
Syracuse University grad, she became a journalist for The
Baltimore Sun, The Washington Times and The Washington
Star.
Upon receiving today's award, Howard Woolley, stated: "As
my good friend Beverley Francis-Gibson, President of the Sickle
Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA) said after
reading Gail's memoir SOAR - "Gail had sickle cell - but sickle
cell didn't have Gail." I accept this award on behalf of Gail. She
battled sickle cell for 58 years and she left us with one last parting
shot at the disease called SOAR which is aimed at building
consciousness about' the disease and increasing funding for a cure
and patient care."
The Roland B. Scott Memorial Symposium was held at
Howard University. This year's theme was "Preparing the Next
Generation of Advocates for Sickle Cell Disease Health Care."
Top advocates and medical professionals in the field gathered to
learn and share information about the latest developments with
treatments and possible cure.
Award recipients were selected by the Roland B.
Scott Sickle Cell Symposium Planning Committee. Speakers at the
symposium included - Patricia Burks RN, MA, CCRC, Director of
Clinical Trials Affairs Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Beverley
Francis-Gibson, MA, President and CEO, Sickle Cell Disease
Association of America, and Steven Rivelis, CEO, Campaign
Consultation, Inc. Panel members included Nikia Vaughn,
Communications Coordinator, Community Health Worker, Johns
Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, Gloria Rochester, Founder,
Queens Sickle Cell Advocacy Network (QSCAN), George Carter,
Sickle Cell Disease Patient and Advocate, administrator for two
nonprofit organizations in Virginia - Sickle Cell Associations of
Richmond-OSCAR and Sickle Cell Chapters of Virginia.
Mr. Woolley, President & CEO of the Howard Woolley
Group LLC, also serves as the spokesperson for his wife, Gail
Woolley's Soar Memoir. As a Sickle Cell Disease Philanthropist
and Advocate,Woolley, a John Hopkins Medicine Trustee is also
Founder of the Gail Woolley Fund Foundation for Project Echo.
Howard's search for a SCD cure, includes sharing his wife's
SOARs novel describing her battle. He works with SCD
Since 2011 Garner's business has developed and thrived on
Since 2017, Garner cites social media, direct sales and
In 2018, Garner's bold leap from his basement to his first
TALLEST POLITICIAN
With his sights set on becoming the next Brooklyn Borough Hall
President, Robert Cornegy, Brooklyn's 36th District New York City
Council member, will often receive accolades as the World's Tallest
Politician according to the 2019 Guinness World Book of Records.
Since his basketball years, at 6 ft. 10, he is a two-term New York City
Council member trailblazer and Brooklyn's civic leader, respected for
mentoring and seeking solutions for his community, years before
holding public office.
On record, shortly after he was sworn in seven years ago, Cornegy,
sponsored NYCs first School Alarm Bill following the tragedy of a
Brooklyn elementary school student, who left his school without notice.
Cornegy's regrets soon motivated his decisions to evaluate and
research with his staff, means of preventing more students from
similarly leaving their school without notice
Cornegy, a married father of six children, often attributes his
basketball skills as that inspiring him to think out-of-a box.
Presenting his Administration's research and solutions to NYCs
Council, resulted in the Council's bipartisan approval of his
proposed legislation, for what became the specialized Sound
Alarm that momentarily notifies NYCs schools when students
leave their school without approval.
Maria Viverito, former Majority Leader for the Council,
quite impressed by Cornegy's insights and concerns to better
assist and support Brooklyn's small business owners, appointed
Cornegy as NYCs Small Business Committee Chair, during his
first year in office. Since then, NYCs free business seminars
teach owners how to access various NYC services, to better
operate their business in accord with municipal and state
regulations.
He’s a Council member who believes that forming
relationships is key, occupying seats on Labor, Finance, Public
Safety, Housing and Health Council committees. In recent years,
his Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood landscapes have
experienced robust business. His introductions of arts, cultural,
Loyal fans of Democrat New York State Senator Robert Jackson, held their festive
holiday-birthday party for Jackson, at that huge popular Washington Heights, 809
Restaurant/Banquet room. Appetizers and mini-cupcakes were plentiful, as were
non-alcoholic beverages.
Several years passed before Jackson won his seat in the Senate, as the first
Muslim New York State Senator following three consecutive terms through 2013
and as the first Muslim, New York City Council member.
Born in Harlem, Jackson remains a champion for education, transparently so, as
his administration's top priority, does not conform to status-quo norms defining the
inadequate funding the City's public schools serving millions of students entitled to
quality education.
In 2005 Jackson's New York Court of Appeals victory resulted in the
educational bill he sponsored, to be awarded its $5.6 billion increased funding for
what became the Foundation Aid Formula for NYC schools through 2008.
Understandably, 2009s recession, through the next few years, would include his
NYCs new program funds frozen, similarly experienced by schools nationwide.
However, his Administration as plaintiff, still appreciates how the judge decreed
that increased funding for NYC public schools was in accord with the U.S. Civil
Rights Act.
In recent years, though some portion of $5.6 billion school funds were resumed
by the City's Dept. of Education, Jackson is currently pursuing the full amount of
those much-needed funds, be re-funded as initially scheduled.
By 2013, Robert retracted his suspicious
comment towards Bill Thompson, two terms NYC
Comptroller through 2013. Thompson was nearby
conversing with some of Jackson's political rivals at
an event they all attended. Minutes later during their
encounter, Jackson frankly told Thompson that he,
himself is a Black man realizing that Thompson was
ignoring him. Wrongfully so, to date, Jackson is
still elated that Bill Thompson's reply was one of
Jackson's greatest compliments ever received. "I've
no intention to ignore you, You're the hero who's
saving NYC schools," reassured Thompson.
Delgado’s Bipartisan Family
Farmer Relief Act Signed
Into Law
U. S. Democrat HR Antonio Delgado, should have been a
celebrated elected official during the summer of 2018, for his
sweeping rapidly approved U.S. Farm Bill that's saving
thousands of U.S. farmers from bankruptcy, as a result of the
U.S. vs. China tariffs. He was a vehemently opposed 2018
Democrat HR candidate, despite being a former Rhodes Scholar
and lawyer, mainly music artistry and producer career that
opponents deemed unfit for Congress.
Bipartisan Family Farmer Relief Act Signed Into Law
KINGSTON, NY, August 26, 2019 —Today, Representative
Antonio Delgado’s bill to aid family farmers during downturns
in the agriculture economy was signed into law by President
Trump. H.R. 2336, The Family Farmer Relief Act, eases the
process of reorganizing debt through Chapter 12 bankruptcy
rules, a tool created specifically to help family farmers during
tough economic times. Delgado introduced the legislation in
April with support from House Judiciary Committee Ranking
Member Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wisc.), House Agriculture
Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D-Minn.), and Reps. TJ
Cox (D-Calif.), Kelly Armstrong (R-N.D.) and Dusty Johnson
(R-S.D.). This legislation passed the House on July 26, the
Senate on August 2, and was signed into law today, August 23,
2019.
“Today is a victory for our small and mid-size farmers who now
have the flexibility to reorganize their debt and continue
operations in what continues to be a challenging time for
agriculture. In this era of bitter partisanship, I was proud to lead
my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass a bipartisan,
commonsense bill to help small farmers in New York’s 19th
Congressional District during this down farm economy. Today,
the President signed the Family Farmer Relief Act into law—
following bipartisan support in both the House and Senate.”
Delgado continued, “I thank my bipartisan, bicameral partners
for their work to move this legislation through the House and
Senate and to bring this urgent relief to our farmers. While the
Family Farmer Relief Act is an important first step—our work
is not done. I will continue to fight for small and mid-size
farmers across our region during this downturn in the farm
economy.”
American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall said,
“Farm Bureau is appreciative that the Family Farmer Relief Act
of 2019 is now law. This law relieves some of the uncertainty
farmers are facing due to export market disruptions, weather
events and declining farm income. It will help family farmers
reorganize after falling on hard times by increasing the debt
limit for relief eligibility under the Chapter 12 bankruptcy code.
While this is a sobering reflection of the current state of the
agricultural economy, we are grateful to Congress, the President
and his administration for their prioritization of reforming our
current bankruptcy laws."
The Family Farmer Relief Act was introduced with a Senate
companion led by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Amy Klobuchar
(D-MN), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Thom Tillis
(R-NC), Doug Jones (D-AL), Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Tina Smith (D-
MN). The bill addresses an outdated debt cap of that limits
eligibility for Chapter 12 bankruptcy relief and has essentially
rendered the tool inaccessible to farmers today. Delgado’s bill
expands the debt that can be covered under Chapter 12 from
$3,237,000 to $10,000,000. The changes reflect the increase in land
values, as well as the growth over time in the average size of U.S.
farming operations and are meant to provide farmers additional
options to keep their doors open during downturns in the farm
economy. The legislation is endorsed by the American Farm Bureau,
National Farmers Union, National Corn Growers Association,
National Milk Producers Federation, the National Pork Producers
Council, and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
As a member of the Agriculture, Transportation and Infrastructure,
and Small Business Committees, Delgado has prioritized bringing
the voices of small farmers to Washington and assure passage of the
Family Farmer Relief Act. Rep. Delgado introduced H.R. 2336, the
Family Farmer Relief Act in April, and in June, gave testimony
before the House Judiciary Committee on his bill and the plight of
small farms today. Following that hearing, the bill passed out of
committee before being voted favorably out of the full House last
