Acknowledgement of generous contributions
The International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea was established in 1992. Since that time,
international organizations, bilateral aid agencies and foreign governments have multiplied
efforts to cooperate with these countries and induce them to cooperate with each
other.
I would like to thank the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations
(UNECE), the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Swiss
Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) for their generous support. I would
also like to thank Jenniver Sehring for parts of the text of the book and Julie August, who
made the design and layout of the catalogue. Photos were taken by Alfred Diebold. The
text of the catalogue was reviewed by Marton Kransnai, Bo Libert, Iulia Trombitcaia,
Saghit Ibatullin, Frank Schrader, Iskandar Abdullaev, Volker Frobarth, Olivier Magnin
and Laurent Guye. Thank you to all, who were involved in this task. It took us many
months to prepare and finally publish the catalogue. I sincerely hope that this exhibition
will bring our joint agenda forward: serving the people of Central Asia and creating a
better understanding of this fascinating region.
