GREECE AGAINST USE

OF MASK, GLOVES IN

CORONAVIRUS

OUTBREAK

Infectious Diseases Coordinator and Health Ministry Dr. Sotirios

Greece’s

is advising against the use of surgical masks and gloves by the

Tsiodras

as a way yo protect us against COVID-19, Tsiodra says that the

population

of these items can do more harm than good by creating a false sense

use

security. The Health Ministry is following the World Health Organization

of

and said that surgical masks and gloves can be used by

guidelines,

and medical staff, and people who are infected by the

doctors

coronavirus and need to be in isolation to prevent the virus to spread,

additionally, they can be worn by people whose work does not allow them

to follow the social distancing guidelines or who are in constant

movement. The WHO advises: “Only wear a mask if you are ill with COVID-

19 symptoms or looking after someone who may have COVID-19.

Disposable face masks can only be used once. If you are not ill or looking

after someone who is ill then you are wasting a mask.” These are very

important to follow if we are to help others and ourselves.Tsiodras says

that wearing gloves makes people forget or neglect to wash their hands,

and reminded us that the coronavirus can stay alive on the surface of the

gloves for hours.Wearing a mask can make one feel free to come closer to

others than defeating, losing the purpose of social distancing orders. Also,

most people who wear masks tend to move them every so often, tending

yo touch their faces or the surface of the mask several times. We must

not forget the guidelines every authority keeps repeating, we must wash

our hands well and constantly, we have to avoid touching our face and

keep our distance from others.
