On April 18th, 2019, hundreds of supporters, friends and acclaimed interior designers gathered at Cipriani 42nd Street for a Spring
Gala Benefit to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Lenox Hill Neighborhood House and to raise funds to support our vital programs.
The evening’s theme, The Future Starts Now, rings true today more than ever as we work together to build a new future for ourselves
and for future generations.
Our 2020 Spring Gala, originally scheduled for April 22nd, like so many other events in New York City and beyond, was cancelled due
to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this crisis, our role as an anchor in the New York City community has never been more crucial. Our
teams are working 24/7 to protect the health and safety of our 15,000 clients as we continue our lifesaving work to feed, shelter and
support our most vulnerable neighbors. We are so touched by the outpouring of support we have received from so many who believe
in our mission and want to help thousands of our struggling neighbors.
We are hopeful for brighter days ahead and we look forward to celebrating together again in the future. In the meantime, we hope
you enjoy this collection of photographs from last year’s Spring Gala of the marvelous tablescapes created by our dear friends within
the design community. We are so very grateful to have you all as partners in our efforts.
Please visit www.lenoxhill.org/updates to learn more about our critical work at the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic and join us
today at www.lenoxhill.org/donate to support our efforts.
Thank you and please stay safe.

Rooted
What better than a tree, from roots to fruits, to
illustrate the journey of a seed for which, The Future
Starts Now. Roots are reaching out to every guest at this
table for nutrients. Each of us is a vital life source the
roots need, in the present, to produce a fruitful future.
“Be the change you want to see in the world,” could
then be rewritten as, “Be today the change you want to
see tomorrow.” The Future Starts Now!

Una Festa Futurismo
Inspired by the Italian Futurist artists, my table is based on their
ideas of capturing forward movement to interpret the “Future is
Now” theme. The color palette is inspired by Gino Severini’s
painting, “Dynamic Hieroglyphic of the Bal Tabarin” that is part of
MoMA’s permanent collection. All design elements from the floral
design to the fabrics and ceramics reflect this momentum of
progressive energy to honor the next 125 inspiring years of Lenox
Hill Neighborhood House. Floral Design: John Lupton and Andrew

The Future is Female
Floral design by Renny & Reed Flowers and Events Hand painted napkins
by Zenon Toczek of Palm Beach Tablecloth provided by China Seas. We
have taken this year’s theme, “The Future Is Now,” to heart with a center
arrangement of the women of today. After all, N.O.W. is also The National
Association of Women. Our “Flowers,” springing up from a garden of
greenery are just that: women in our world, making an impact from all
walks of life (from Ruth Bader Ginsberg to Lady Gaga!). The color we have
chosen is green which is representing the importance of “going green,”
another key to tomorrow. The tablecloth is made from a beautiful China
Seas fabric in bright spring green with matching napkins. Our table
arrangement has been created with us by Renny & Reed on Park Avenue.
It has the photographs of the busts of chosen women (13 of them). The
“flowers” stand about 5 feet above the table top, but the actual garden is
low. It is surrounded by green leaf wrapped votives.

MALLY SKOK
FOR MALLY SKOK DESIGN
The Future is Now
To tell the story of my ‘The Future is Now’ table, I chose my Emmie fabric as the tablecloth because I feel it is happy and optimistic and encourages one
to be happy in the now! The fabric is named after my dear 87-year-old mother who I am currently visiting in South Africa. Emmie is glam and fun and oh
so vibrant, and is dearly loved by all who cross her path. Even though our family has had its share of troubles, Emmie has taught us to enjoy every day
like it’s our last. Chez Emmie there is always a pretty cloth on the dinner table, a sprinkle of parsley on the side of the serving dish, and a bowl of fresh
flowers in the center. Emmie lives her life in the sunniest way, never stressing about her age, but going about her life like every day is a fresh new gift.
The dishes on the table were designed by me when I was on holiday in our house in Plettenberg Bay. The colours are the colours I see around me in
South Africa, fresh and happy, and someone recently told me the patterns remind them of the decoration on the outside of Ndebele houses—which
makes me very happy! The lovely Klismos chairs around my table are the product of a collaboration between me and the lovely young brother and sister
team that owns Dowel Furniture. I have always admired the shape of the ancient Greek form. Our version brings the chair into today! Turbulent times in
South Africa have made the people embrace the simple things that life offers—good food, delicious wine, dear friends, and the beauty of nature. I hope
my table demonstrates that! Tablecloth – Mally Skok Design; Emmie Multi Napkins – Mally Skok Design, Julia Blue; Robberg Plate Collection – Mally Skok
Design; Dining Chairs – Dowel Furniture, with Mally Skok Design, Flora Too Marine seat fabric.

A Naturofantastic Future
Since the renaissance, every modern generation has had its own fantastical images of the future. These visions have
been shaped not only by technological developments, but also by our increasing knowledge of the natural world. Many
of the most beautiful imaginings of the future have been based on the more exotic forms that we have discovered in
nature—in the depths of the ocean, in newly discovered biospheres or in the very structure of matter. Our table brings
together the Naturofantastic porcelain collection of LLADRO, the imaginative floral designs of DESIGNS BY AHN and
colorful, modernist fabric created by DESIGNERS GUILD. Special thanks to LLADRO for providing gifts for our guests.

- Irish blessing
This table’s theme is based upon the butterfly and its representation of today,
tomorrow and beyond. Our green and cream linens are made from Thibaut
fabric and are in the pattern Carlotta Green. Silks A Bloom has created a fantasy
floral garden adorned with butterflies and roses. Monogrammed napkins were
generously donated by Courtland and Co. in Savannah Georgia. Dinnerware is
by Mottahedeh, chargers, flatware and napkin rings are by Kim Seybert,
Replacements loaned Waterford Lismore crystal place card holders and
Schmidt, Garda Rose Water Goblets. Worlds Away graciously loaned their
“Overton” chairs for each place setting. The vintage Noritake Perspective
tangerine glasses are from my personal collection. My new book, “Four Seasons
of Entertaining” will be gifted to each couple. I would like to personally thank,
Dale Aldrige, Brittany Vick, Chelsey Copas, Silks A Bloom, Thibaut, Worlds Away,
Replacements, ottahedeh, Kim Sybert, and Courtland and Co for their time and

Celebrating Gems on Earth
We celebrate the future with root cellar designs’ new Gems
Home Textile Collection, eight new fabric designs in jewel-toned
colors and debuting spring, 2019. For the table design, we
celebrate all those mined and born from the earth, the sky and
the ocean while channeling hues like evergreen, sapphire,
saffron, amethyst and tiffany. The table pays homage to these
gems. These textile designs are sparked from our imagination
beginning with a sketch on a page and finished with a smooth
sateen printed linen then made into a table linen, dinner napkins
and seat covers combined with flowers and decoration by root
cellar designs with vintage French plate and glassware all to
create a beautiful dining experience for guests.

Palmiers Modernes
A beautiful Manuel Canovas fabric which features
modern palms in shades of green, blue, teal and black is
the inspiration for our table top. We focused on using
intense colors and patterns with black accents that
make it modern and sophisticated. The lacquered palm
center piece paired with the traditional accents on each
place setting create a juxtaposition that brings the past
forward to a chic setting for a modern and intimate
dinner. Citrine accents are a nod to the French deco era
but brought into the now through application. With that
we welcome you to our celebration of French exoticism,
Palmiers Modernes. Caviness Restoration, Cowtan &
