llow to Enjoy th€ Best ln Saunas,.. The Flnnish Way
Dvery sauna enthusiasl will develop their own style once flrlly acquainted and
confidenl in the sauna process. Ther€ are no fixed rules to follow for enjoying
ttre sama, as cvc.youc should bc froc to cxperiment to et the naximum
This also applies to sauua regulars. There are nights when you jusi can't take it
as hot, as Well,as days when you wonder how you formd all of your €xtra
energy. The sauna can be rclaxing or invigomtion * depending on you. One
should never take more heat than is comfortable and eniovable and never. nevor
.push dle',limits icf endumnce.
Before You Strrt
l) B€ pr€pared to give the saun pl€nty of tine to do its work - a lcisurely
sauna is far more b€nelioial, One to two hourc of time is ideal for total
relaxation, A number ofsessions can:be spent in the sauna with short
cooling-off and rest pedods in tetweBn. A longer drying-off and rest pe od
is very rclaxingronce the sauia is,finished.
2) Always wait at least one hour after oatihg a large meal beforo using the
sauna, Some people find that a sarlna fi$t thing in the moming is very
invigolation rnd a great way to 6t$t ths day. i{nother ido rime is in the
evoniDg - ii beats auy sodaxiye.
3) Preheat the sauna to a 0emperature ofyou.r liking by sotting the ihermostat.
Most regular sauna users enjoy the heat arould 180"F (82oC) although the
popular temperatur e I ange is eom I 700 to I 90'F (77" to 90"C).
4) Bothers not accustomsd lo sauhd heot sbould stori at a lowor tcmpcraturc
''around,l60eF (700C)and allow,their capacity for enjoying honer
tornporatures io develop. Take as much, heat as you find comfortable.
5) ,W€aras little ,as,.possibl€ - preferably ndthing. A loose towel can be used if
. . nec€sSary, Remove any \\ratohes, pendarts, jewellery and glasses rhat would
become uncomfortably hot.
6) CAUTION - ifyou ltave any form ofmedical condition or disorder, you
should consult your docLor before using rle saua ifyou arc nor accusromcd
to it.
The Sauna Way
7) Many bathers stan with a briefwam shower to wash offbody oils and djlt,
;8) EDtelthe sauna and relax on the top level for 10 to 15 minutes (or th€ lower
level if you prefer a moderato heat). rMany bathers spend about half of L\eir
iotal time lying do$n. The dry heat wil increase the blood circulation snd
rvill eventuallybdng the body to the p€rspimtion point. Otherwjse, do nol
expsct to perspie heavily in the dry heatof the first session.
Do not stay longer dral 30 minutes - the sauna is not a test of toushness.
Any Bxposure beyond thdr time can become hezardous as we as 6eyond ali
levels of confod,and €njolment.
