For an authentic experience in nature, these awesome nature live

Naledi – Cat Eye Camera has been set up at the eye level of a 

leopard to give you a sense of the size of the different creatures 

that visit the waterhole. It’s at the Naledi game lodge in the gamerich 

greater Kruger conservancy, so marvellous viewing. Cheetah, 

lions, elephant, giraffe, impala, baboons, warthog and owls have all 

been spotted recently, along with genets, meercats, waterbuck and

Banele Khoza’s gallery/shop/studio/artist project in vibey 

Braamfontein, done out in soft pastels, is a light and airy space for the 

expression of creativity. You can view the current exhibition, Blue is 

the Warmest Colour, with works by artists such as Vusi Beauchamp,

The Norval Foundation is offering #60SecondArt digital stories via

Walk around Standard Bank Art Gallery’s 3D experience which

The Big Flower Fight is going to be a big 

blooming joy to watch. This is to flower lovers 

what The Great British Bake Off is to bakers. 

It’s a (friendly) floral fight between 10 pairs of 

florists, sculptors and garden designers, who 

pull out all the stops to see who can build the 

biggest, boldest and most beautiful garden 

sculptures. There are challenges including 

woodwork, floristry and landscaping, and the 

competitors will be encouraged to use plants 

and materials that are earth-friendly. Each 

week a team will be eliminated ... leading up 

to an exciting floral finale, when one team 

will win the flower crown! It started on May 

18 on Netflix which means you’ve got a few

Hometown girl with 

BIG DREAMS 

She describes herself as feeling sassy while living life solo, which is the best way to 

rediscover herself and focus on her business and passion for fashion design. Get it catches 

up with OKgrl’s Urshela Schutte to chat about her dreams, challenges and success. 

She has her roots set 

firmly in the place 

she calls home. 

“I have been living 

here most of my life. 

I love the vibes of 

Alberton. It’s a quiet 

hometown where I 

can run my business 

from and live my family-oriented life.” 

Urshela worked as a marketing executive 

for a fashion retailer for 20 years. 

Yet, it was always her dream to own 

her own fashion and clothing brand. 

“It just took me some time to take the 

leap. This happened when I realised it 

is never too late to pursue anything in 

your life, no matter how big or small 

it seems. 

“Out of my dreams OKgrl Fashion and 

OKgrl Talk Magazine was born. I am 

extremely proud of how far we have 

come for such a young business. 

“When starting OKgrl, my challenge 

was to relay the message to women to 

accept their own body types and dress 

comfortably but still look and feel 

sexy. Women need to find confidence 

within themselves and not in the 

clothes they wear. 

“I wanted all woman to know that they 

can decide what they want to wear 

instead of being dictated by the trends 

the industry sets. 

“I believe your fashion sense and style 

should be unique to you. This is why 

I started Made to Measure. It is as 

simple as you sending me a picture of 

what exactly you want and we make it. 

“It seems like something small, but this 

means that you chose your own fashion

there is Nicky, who I also consider

“Together we are an amazing team. 

We believe in having an absolute blast

way of running a business is just not 

how it works anymore. 

“Because of this way of thinking, we 

found exceptional seamstresses and 

tailors who believe and live by the 

same motto. We are not just a business, 

we are a family.” 

Urshela’s dream and goal is to become 

the biggest female fashion brand for all 

women and young girls. 

“I want OKgrl to be a name that every 

woman and girl knows. Something 

they speak of with pride and something 

they can feel part of. 

“OKgrl is friendly and welcoming. This 

makes it extremely special to me. One 

of my favourite things about it, 

is that I don’t just get customers, I 

make friends. 

“It has become a community of 

women who all feel the same way - it’s

“Well, this sure is not as easy, but we 

are fortunate enough to be involved 

with projects that can keep us busy 

and this can be done online. 

“Between myself, my staff and our 

wonderful customers, we are still making 

sure everyone stays warm 

this winter with our amazing winter 

range and we make sure we put the 

fashion straight into our masks that 

we’re making. 

“I am extremely humbled by the 

strong community I see every day and 

I am so proud to say that OKgrl is part 

of it. 

“We are involved with Apprentesses 

SA – Ster Status. We try our best to 

make sure we contribute to their 

strong relationship with charity work 

and this is something we take much 

pride in. 

“We also recently started making 

masks for Stepping Stone Hospice. 

They use these masks for the patients’ 

families, so they can visit them during 

these difficult times. 

“I decided to take this on because 

of my personal connection with the 

hospice. I consider it very near and dear 

to my heart.” 

Support brings success 

“I have two children. My son Wayne, who 

is married to Megan and they have two 

beautiful children. I absolutely adore my 

grandchildren. I am extremely proud of 

them and they are a beautiful family. 

“I work with my daughter, Melissa, and as 

I said, business time is actually fun time 

for the two of us. 

“I have a very good relationship with 

both my children and I see them as 

my greatest accomplishments. I am 

extremely proud of what and who they 

have become. 

“They are very supportive of my entrepreneurial 

career and this makes me 

want to work harder every single day, 

setting the example of what can be 

achieved if you pursue your dreams and 

passion.” 

She is also very aware of taking time for 

herself - something she enforces among 

her staff as well. 

“Me-time is very important. From taking 

my dog for a walk, joining the odd yoga 

class or going to a session with Body20. 

“I use this time to remind myself that taking 

time away from my work is important 

for my soul. It helps me grow my 

passion because there is a true feeling of 

being refreshed and this is how inspiration 

grows within me. 

“I believe that taking care of myself and 

my own well-being is important. Every 

women should apply it in their lives.” 

Quality time with those close to her is an 

absolute must. 

“I love people, my friends, my family and 

this is why I always make time to talk 

to them or to spend time with them. 

I believe that every person is only as 

amazing as their support system. This is 

why I love keeping my friends and family 

close, to support them and to soak up 

their support.” 

Anything you are doing differently? 

“I definitely rediscovered some of my 

passions, like my passion for cooking and 

I make time to read a book, something 

I’ve always loved doing. Taking time for 

myself by exercising and being active 

has also started to become more important 

to me again. 

“I know Lockdown is very frustrating but 

it has forced me to review my quality of 

life. It has given me time for reflecting, 

keeping myself motivated and optimistic. 

I had time to build my fashion brand 

and making it relevant for the new world 

we will live in - in short it has forced me 

to think outside of the box which has 

brought a whole new world of ideas 

for me.” 

“After all of this I believe my attitude is

Sweetie Pies. This has to be the one 

thing I am most easily bribed with.

Sloungerwear. It is as cute as a 

jumpsuit, something you can wear 

at home and out, not that you 

should be going out now.

without? 

My iPhone because I am always on 

it for business 

• Indoors or outdoors? 

Depends on my mood. I love being 

outdoors, there is something 

about it that can reset your soul. 

But with that being said, I do not 

have anything against bingewatching 

a Netflix series. 

• What is your pet peeve? 

Rude people. A little bit of kindness 

and friendliness goes a long way. 

• Guilty pleasures? 

Pleasures should not be considered 

guilty. The sky is the limit and 

I love being silly and enjoy life to 

its fullest. 

• The motto you live by? 

Stay humble, kind and honest. 

• If you win R1-million, what will 

be the first thing you do? 

Definitely plan a return trip to Italy 

to soak up the history a little bit 

longer. Start a fund to help women 

in abusive relationships to get back 

on their feet. 



Wrapped up 

in routine 

As a fashion buyer, she is all about what’s hot and what’s not. And this is where accurate 

forecasting of the latest fashion trends and a keen eye for style come in. 

And this comes naturally to Kirsty Bennet from the South. 

“I was born in Johannesburg South and 

raised in Sandton. I attended Grayston 

Prep and the remainder of my primary 

school career was completed at Kensington 

Ridge as we moved to Bedfordview. 

Always the new girl in school,” 

Kirsty said with a smile. 

“My parents eventually found our perfect 

home in Mondeor, and this is where 

I completed my high school career.” 

And who said a match made in heaven 

could not have started on a social 

media platform? 

Kirsty met her husband on Facebook 

in 2008. 

“LOL, don’t judge. He was studying in 

Dallas on a football scholarship and he 

finally arrived home in 2009. We have 

been together ever since.” 

Today the family lives in Bassonia with 

their two beautiful children. Mikael has 

just started primary school and Mila is 

heading towards the terrible twos. “As 

you can imagine, my husband and I 

have our hands full. 

“We simply love living in the South - our 

own little community where people 

value local businesses and empower 

each other. Our ward councillors and 

even the local pizzeria remind me every 

day that we truly have a great nation 

that are here for one another. I mean, 

where else can you find a nail salon or 

gym on every corner,” she said smiling. 

As a family, they love travelling and the 

ocean is where they go to unwind and 

relax. Being big soccer enthusiasts, you 

will always find them at soccer practices 

and match days on Saturday mornings. 

Juggling duties 

During our chat, it was obvious that she 

had an extremely busy schedule and 

one just had to ask how she juggled work and being a mom and wife. 

“Routine is key to juggling all these roles. Work is managed with scheduling and being 

punctual. I always start with my most challenging deadlines first. Once that’s out 

of the way, the rest flows much easier. 

“Oh, and I have learnt to say ‘no’. If meetings run late or deadlines aren’t realistic I 

speak up. We are human beings and not machines and my value and time is 

also important. 

“During the week its dinner and homework, bathing and finally story time. I try to 

make these fun so there are no meltdowns and we eventually get through the day. 

But you will always have those days where the unexpected occurs and you just need 

to go with it. Life is not perfect. 

“My husband and I believe in teamwork as long as we are doing things together. 

Communicating with each other - that’s the key. Whether it is doing the dishes, bathing 

the children or simply watching the news. 

Career and sidelines 

“I am a full-time fashion buyer. A buyer is someone who makes the purchasing decisions 

for a retailer. You need an analytical mind and a keen eye for style. 

“I absolutely love what I do. It challenges me every day and I don’t feel like its work. 

I’ve been in the industry for seven years and this has sparked other interests in the 

fashion industry. 

“I have recently started a styling company called the Kloset Kollective (check us out 

on Facebook for other services we offer). 

“I love making people feel good by knowing how to present themselves to the 

outside world. For more style tips and fashion trends people can follow my IG page,

The best thing about her career is seeing the final product on her customers, and, of 

course, the travelling as her career gives her the opportunity to shop for trends. 

When it comes to career challenges, she said her biggest would most probably be 

that which will translate internationally into the South African market. 

“Our decision of what we put on the shelves determines our businesses’ profitability. 

It can become very challenging if you have invested too little in a new style or too 

much. Accurate forecasting and cost analyses are some of the ways we overcome 

these challenges.” 

Being a people person, she describes her greatest career achievements as the relationships 

she has built in her career. 

“The people I have met and the places I have been have shaped me into the 

businesswoman I am today. It is also not bad being recognised for reaching your 

sales targets.” 

Feelings about conscious living? 

“Conscious living requires being present as it is impossible to be aware when living a 

disconnected and unconscious life. 

“Lockdown has provided some time to think of matters that are close to my heart,

where we could be more conscious as 

a family. Our finances came up we had 

to look at where to save, cut out and 

ultimately plan a strategy to move to 

where we wanted to be. 

“We asked ourselves where our time is 

put in a day, and where our time could 

be better spent tomorrow. 

“As a family we identified that we 

needed to eat better. 

“My husband wanted to work out more 

and feel better. I wanted to spend more 

time reading with my kids. There was 

also a urgency on my spiritual journey 

and equipping my kids to learn about 

themselves through their spirituality. 

“Living out these is the challenge, but 

once you have opened your mind to 

change nothing and no one should 

distract you from your goal.” 

Online living 

With things changing rapidly around 

us, one cannot let the online living side 

of today slide. We asked her about any 

online projects, her likes and dislikes of 

online living, and, of course, with her being 

a mom, a bit about homeschooling. 

For Kirsty, homeschooling is the biggest 

online challenge she faces right now. 

“I find to make this process easier for 

Mikael is actually trying to make him 

believe he is attending school. I make 

sure he is seated at a comfortable space 

- desk with chair. I even bought new 

stationery because who doesn’t love 

new stationery. 

“And then I pretend I am a teacher so he 

addresses me as Mrs Bennet, not mom. 

It is like a game and we usually start and 

end school at the same time every day. 

Again, routine is key.” 

“I am involved with a project with 

vintage with Love SA . They gather up 

pre-loved items to donate to those 

less fortunate. 

“Another project I’m working on is decluttering 

and styling up your wardrobe. 

I go through my three big tips for making 

space in your life for what is really 

important to you. You can find out more

“I think doing things online gives us a 

space to express ourselves in a way we 

can’t face to face, especially as an artist. 

“You also reach more people by being 

online and can receive honest feedback 

as these people don’t know you.

Swapping your daily shake 

for a plant-based alternative

How it’s made

Plant-based protein 

Using plant-based instead of animal-based proteins, like milk, makes the composition 

of the product different. Protein is a composition of smaller molecules called amino 

acids. 

Some of these amino acids can’t be produced by the body itself. The nine amino 

acids that humans cannot synthesise are phenylalanine, valine, threonine, tryptophan, 

methionine, leucine, isoleucine, lysine, and histidine. These are called essential amino 

acids and must be provided by the diet in a certain proportion. In many animal-based 

sources, like milk protein, these amino acids are provided in the right amount and 

proportion. 

Plant-proteins (with some exceptions) tend to be incomplete, lacking different essential 

amino acids. For example, a plant-protein source can be low in lysine, whereas another 

one is low in methionine. 

However, mixing complementary sources of plant-protein helps us to obtain all the 

essential amino acids in their adequate amounts to have a complete protein. Therefore, 

together, the ingredients of Tri Blend provide a source of protein. The product is also 

suitable for vegans and can be part of a plant-based diet.

Whip that coffee 

If you’re on Instagram, you’ll no doubt have seen post after post 

of Dalgona coffee. Picture perfect, it’s also amazingly easy to 

make. It’s fluffy and delicious, and you can enjoy it hot or cold. All 

you need is to pop two generous tablespoons each of instant 

coffee, granulated sugar (we like brown, but you can use white) 

and boiling water into a small bowl. Whip with a whisk or hand 

mixer until foamy, thick and fudgy in colour. With an electric 

whisk, this took us two minutes. Then pour your hot or cold milk 

into a a glass until three-quarters full, spoon the whipped coffee 

on top, (take your Instagram photo now), then stir vigorously 

through the milk. Top hint: if you’ve got children, do the same 

with Milo. It’s brilliant. Just whip four tablespoons of Milo with 

four tablespoons of cream, then pour onto of a mug of hot milk 

(makes two).

Traditional Austrian beef 

goulash soup 

(Serves 4) 

You’ll need: 

45ml (3 Tblsps) olive oil; 3 (600g) 

medium onions, chopped; 5ml (1 tsp) 

garlic, finely chopped; 15ml (1 Tblsp) 

tomato paste; 15ml 

(1 Tblsp) paprika; 2.5ml (½ tsp) ground 

cumin; 2.5ml (½ tsp) marjoram; 2.5ml 

(½ tsp) thyme ; 2.5ml (½ tsp) cayenne 

pepper (optional); 250g boneless, 

cubed beef; 60ml (¼ cup) red wine; 

1L (4 cups) warm beef stock; 3 (660g) 

medium potatoes, peeled and diced; 

salt and pepper 

To serve: sour cream; chopped chives; 

crusty bread 

Method: 

Heat the oil in a large, heavy based 

pot over medium heat. Add onions 

and garlic and sauté until tender for 

8 to 10 minutes. Stir in tomato paste, 

paprika, cumin, marjoram, thyme and 

cayenne pepper. Add beef and fry, for 

5 minutes. Stir in red wine and simmer 

for 5 minutes. Add stock, cover and 

cook for 40 minutes. 

Add potatoes and simmer for a further 

30 minutes until potatoes and meat are 

fork-tender. 

Season the soup to taste, ladle into 

bowls and top each portion with a 

dollop of sour cream. Sprinkle some 

chives on top and serve with freshly 

baked bread. 

Eat in! 

Hearty goulash. Slow cooked lamb. And two 

exceptional wines. Winter’s looking damn fine!

A velvety Merlot 

and slow cooked lamb

Lamb neck stuffed with ricotta and herbs with lemon jus 

(Serves 6) 


1kg deboned lamb neck; 200g ricotta; 10g each chopped basil and parsley; 

zest of 1 lemon; one each onion, carrot and celery stick, all chopped; 1000ml 

stock; 1 lemon, juiced and zested; 100g butter; salt and pepper 

Method: 

In a food processor combine the ricotta, herbs and lemon juice, and season 

with salt and pepper. 

Open up the neck and season with salt and pepper on the inside and out. 

Lay the neck “skin” side down and spread the filling over the entire surface 

of the meat. Roll up like a Swiss roll and secure meat by tying with butcher’s 

string. Prepare a roasting tin with the chopped vegetables and stock. Lay the 

lamb neck on top of the vegetables. 

Braise in a preheated oven of 160°C for two to three hours or until cooked. 

When you place a skewer in the meat it should have no resistance. 

Once cooked, remove meat from the pan and allow to rest. 

Combine the vegetables and stock from the roasting pan and blend. Pour 

into a pot and bring to the boil. Add the zest, lemon juice and butter. Season 

with salt and pepper. Strain before serving. 

Serve with a glass of delicious Steenberg Merlot. Enjoy!

Pumpkin donuts with dark chocolate 

(Serves 6 to 8) 


1 ½ cups cooked pumpkin, mashed; 1 cup 

self-raising flour; 2 eggs; a pinch of salt; ½ tsp 

cinnamon; oil for deep frying; 1 cup cinnamon 

sugar; 100g dark chocolate, melted 

Method: 

Cook pumpkin, drain excess liquid and allow to 

cool. Put all ingredients except dark chocolate 

and cinnamon sugar in a food processor and 

mix until smooth. Heat oil and add tablespoons 

of batter to the oil and fry until golden brown. 

Roll in cinnamon sugar and drizzle with the 

melted dark chocolate.

An orange resolution 

(Serves 8) 


2 cups frozen mango chunks; 2 cups 

frozen peach slices; 2 cups Greek 

yoghurt; 1 cup baby carrots; 1 cup 

orange juice; 1 cup pineapple chunks; ¼ 

cup honey; 1 banana, peeled 

Method: 

Put the mango chunks, peach slices, 

yoghurt, carrots, orange juice, pineapple 

chunks, honey and banana in a blender 

and whizz until everything’s smooth. 

The big green 

(Serves 1) 


1 ½ cups kale, stems removed and 

chopped finely; ½ cup baby spinach 

leaves, chopped finely; ½ cup frozen 

blueberries; 1 cup apple cider or apple 

juice; 1 tsp ginger, freshly grated (the 

easiest way to peel ginger is to scrape 

the skin off with a spoon); 1 tsp maple 

syrup 

Method: 

Whizz all the ingredients in a blender 

until everything is well mixed and 

liquefied. Drink immediately. 

Raspberry jubilee 

(Serves 2) 


¾ cup frozen raspberries; ½ cup orange 

juice; ½ cup pomegranate or cranberry 

juice; ½ cup vanilla flavour yoghurt; ¼ 

cup All-Bran cereal 

Method: 

Place fruit in blender container. Add 

juices, yoghurt and cereal. Blend until 

smooth. If desired, sweeten to taste with 

a little honey.

(Serves 3 - 4) 


1 medium-sized sweet potato, 

cooked; 1 medium-sized banana,

Tblsp honey; ¼ tsp cinnamon; ½ cup 

ice 

Method: 

Add all ingredients into blender. 

Cover; whizz on high for about 

one minute or until smooth. Serve 

immediately. 

Potent turmeric & ginger 

(Serves 1) 


1 ripe banana; 2 tsps powdered 

turmeric; 1 ¼ tsps ground ginger; 

2 Tblsps hemp seeds; 2 Tblsps 

cashew nuts; 200ml filtered water; 

½ cup frozen mango; ½ cup frozen 

pineapple 

Method: 

Whizz the banana, ginger, turmeric, 

water, hemp seeds and cashews for 

about 30 seconds. Add frozen fruit, 

then blend until creamy smooth. 

Add more water if you want it more 

juice-like. 

Apple pie 

(Serves 2) 


1 red apple, peeled and cored; ½ 

cup non-fat plain yoghurt; ¼ tsp 

vanilla extract; 1 tsp brown sugar; ¼ 

tsp nutmeg; ¼ tsp cinnamon; pinch 

of ground cloves (optional); 1 cup 

ice cubes 

Method: 

Chop the apple into small cubes. 

Pop all ingredients into blender and 

pulse until well mixed. 

* Top with whipped cream and 

cinnamon for an extra sweet treat!

shared with us how colour can impact your state 

of mind ... with calming blues and soothing greens 

taking the limelight. 



After spending week after week after very long week in lockdown, it may be time for a change. Nothing 

refreshes and gives a whole new look than a colour update. But it’s not just about aesthetics. Colour is also 

all about how it makes you feel ... there’s a real science behind how colour affects the brain, and how it can 

play a role in your state of mind and mood. And as so many of us are looking for balance, calm and a little less 

stress in our lives, adding shades of blue and green could work wonders. 

Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body, and has been shown to help balance hormones, lower 

breathing rates, slow down the metabolism and reduce blood pressure. Starting off your day surrounded by 

soft shades – think easy-on-the-eye powder or sky blue – will help bring inner peace and a sense of calm. 

We’re massively besotted with green when it comes to decorating ... and think creating your very own green 

room is a fine idea. The close link between pale soft greens and nature means the colour is often perceived 

as a soothing shade that helps to alleviate stress and aids in fending off negative feelings. It’s really relaxing 

– think of ‘the green room’ in TV studios where guests and performers retreat and relax before and between 

takes. Green also promotes concentration, so is perfect for a space in your home where you need a calm, 

focused mind. 

Mix it up a little with the beautiful colours that hover between blue and green. Turquoise, a gem which 

combines blue and green with a touch of yellow, was believed by the ancient Persians to ward off the evil 

eye. They wore the blue-green stones as a protective charm. It may be a bit much to have an entire 

room in this strong colour, but touches of it make an eye-catching, bold statement. Teal, a mixture 

of blue, green and a touch of grey, is simply a darker shade of turquoise. Both teal and turquoise 

radiate the peace, calm and tranquillity of blue and the balance and growth of green. Consider 

using turquoise in the bedroom to create a sweet feminine feel, while darker teal shades add 

lively sophistication to living rooms and hallways. 

On the opposite end of the scale, you may prefer a shade that helps stimulate your mind or 

gives your creativity a powerful boost. In which case, hello orange. This is a power colour to 

be reckoned with, as some theorists maintain that when you’re in the presence of orange 

you increase the oxygen supply to the brain, which stimulates mental activity. It’s also 

thought to encourage sociability by energising people and lessening their inhibitions. Bold 

orange could be a little intimidating ... we think the softer shades of nectarine, coral, orange 

rose, sunset, rust and saffron would be easier to live with. 





The sweet-scented 

HYACINTH 

Our indoor plant of the month is the sweetly fragrant pot hyacinth. A cluster 

of these lovely flowers fill a room with their delicate, fresh scent. When grown 

indoors, pot hyacinths like bright indirect light, not direct sunlight and they 

need moist, but not wet, soil. Each pot plant has a number of flower spikes 

that open and remain attractive for several weeks if the plant is kept in a cool 

but well-lit room. Remove flower spikes that are over. Once the plant has 

finished flowering, keep it in a cool room with moist soil and plant it out in 

spring, for flowering the following spring. Alternatively, the hyacinth can stay 

in its pot. The foliage will die down, but it will come up the following year if it

DIG IT! 

Is it a pansy? Is it a viola? 

Pansy Panola is for gardeners who can’t decide which 

they love more ... pansies or violas! This pansy is a mix 

of both. It has the flower power of a viola but with 

pansy-like blooms, that are bigger than violas but 

not as big as the extra-large pansies. The plants are 

compact (growing to 20cm high and 25cm wide) so 

they fit in anywhere and everywhere ... garden beds, 

borders, sunny corners, patio pots and window boxes. 

You can even plant them in the vegetable garden 

because the blooms are edible. Make sure you plant 

them in full sun in winter, and remember they need 

well composted soil. With regular watering and 

feeding, these Panola pansies will keep on flowering 

into summer, and with less stretch than regular

Did you know that planting a rose now 

allows it to settle in over winter, ready 

to flower in October? Ludwig’s pick is 

Winter Sun KORbatam (N) because 

it flowers deep into winter, with 

fragrant classically shaped pale-yellow

a neat, shoulder high hybrid tea rose, 

covered in glossy green leaves that are 

very resistant to black spot. It’s a low 

maintenance rose for today’s no-fuss

Garden tasks for June 

Transplant roses that are planted in too much shade or in the wrong position.

Rake up all fallen leaves and add them to the compost heap or store in bags to

Remember to water flowers and vegetables as early as possible in the morning 

so the leaves are dry by evening.

predicted. 

Plant winter colour in sunny beds ... pansies, violas, petunias (in dry winter areas), 

poppies and calendulas. For shade or semi-shade areas, plant primulas. 

Feed winter leafy vegetables with a nitrogen-rich liquid fertilizer. 

Stake broad beans and Brussels sprouts.

Put aside the bananas. Since we’re baking, we may as well make something 

yummy for the dogs, too. 

Peanut butter biscuits 


1 cup cooked pumpkin puree; 1/4 cup peanut butter (choose one 

with no added sugar or salt); 2 eggs; 3 cups whole wheat flour. 

Method: Preheat oven to 180°C. Beat the pumpkin puree, 

peanut butter and eggs well until mixed – around 2 

minutes. Slowly add in the flour, a little at a time, 

mixing gently until just combined. Knead the
