SPRING TIME IN Centerville
2019-2020 Spring Athletic Program
We would like to welcome all of you to the Centerville City School District where athletics serves
as yet another tool to prepare our students to excel in life when their high school experience ends.
We pride ourselves in partnering with our athletes to help them always compete with a sense of
humility, embrace and respond to adversity in an appropriate manner and continuously strive to
reach excellence. The spring of 2020 has proven to be an incredibly difficult situation for all of
us as we have all been doing our part to battle this medical emergency that the entire world is
fighting. We are extremely grateful to our 2020 seniors that did not get to play their senior season
and ask that the underclassmen remember these seniors and carry their legacy forward as we
eventually move on this unfortunate situation. We are also very appreciative of the tremendous
support we always receive from the Centerville Community and I want to personally thank all of
you for your continued and unwavering support. We are proud members of the Greater Western
Ohio Conference and this past school year won the GWOC Eastern Division All-Sports trophy
for the 17th consecutive year. The conference will see some changes at the conclusion of this
year but the Elks remain committed to the GWOC and will continue to be a proud member moving
forward. You can follow Centerville Athletics on twitter @chselksad. We are very proud of the
excellent athletic programs we have here in Centerville, but we are most proud of how our coaches
and student-athletes represent our school and our community, especially during these very difficult
times. Please consider becoming a member of the Athletic Booster Family by visiting elkboosters.

Greetings from the
GWOC Commissioner
Greetings!! On behalf of the Greater Western Ohio conference I would like to welcome you to today’s
event. The participants today have been working hard and preparing for the season. Needless to say
they are thrilled to have you in attendance.
This is a year of change for the GWOC as we transition to two divisions for the 2019-2020 school
year. The divisions will be named American and National. While we are excited for the current setup
of the GWOC this will be the final year that the GWOC offers a division format. The conference will
be moving to an eight team membership setup beginning fall of 2020. This transition will allow the
GWOC to meet the needs of membership and solidify the conference for the foreseeable future.
The Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) has built a distinguished and proud history of
academic and athletic excellence over the years. It offers students the best opportunities to compete
in an elite academic and athletic conference. It also provides a forum for fans of the GWOC to
support the best high schools, and competition, in the state.
We recognize that competition can be fierce but we must strive to promote and encourage
sportsmanship to the fullest degree in all of our athletic events. Proper conduct and respect for
all are actions to be demonstrated before, during, and after all sporting events and activities. We
ask for your support with this initiative by being a role model and positively supporting the event’s
participants. Sportsmanship is everyone’s responsibility - please do your part.
The student-athletes, coaches and administrators of the GWOC thank you for your ongoing support.
you play a vital role in the continued growth and success of the conference. Please visit the
conference website at www.gwocsports.com for all conference related information and follow us on
Twitter at @GWOC. I hope you enjoy your visit and today’s contest.
Sincerely,
Eric Spahr

Centerville Athletic Boosters
Dear Elk Families,
More than half of the high school and middle school student population in Centerville City Schools
participate in one or more of the sports programs offered by the district; a strong indication our
community values and supports the continuation of a strong sports program within Centerville City
Schools. The benefits to students from participating in the sports programs range from being a part of
a team, being physically fit, improving skills in a game, becoming a leader in an athletic program, and
possibly earning a college scholarship as a result of the higher level of training and competition that
our district enjoys.
The Centerville Schools Athletic Booster Club is a charitable organization whose mission and purpose
is to support the Centerville athletic programs. With the ever-changing funding landscape for school
districts all over the country, it is now more important than ever for booster groups such as ours to
generate funds to continue providing these opportunities for our students. For over 30 years, the
Athletic Booster Club has enhanced the District’s athletic programs by providing supplemental funding
and making substantial contributions to the capital improvements in all our sport facilities. We have
contributed to the improvements in the weight room, the tennis courts, gymnasiums, the soccer/
lacrosse field, the baseball field, and the football field. The Centerville community must continue to
help sustain these popular athletic programs.
Please join the Centerville Schools Athletic Booster Club if you have not already done so. It is easy
to join and there are a number of levels in which to participate. Visit the Booster Website at www.
elkboosters.com for membership information. Any support you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Elks Baseball Family,
CENTERVILLE BOYS BASEBALL
Thank you for the support of Centerville Schools and the Elks Baseball Program. Our guys have
worked hard this off-season to put themselves in position to “Play Best Game Last.” Our schedule
will be one of the most challenging in the state of Ohio and arguably the Midwest. We once again
will face off with some of the top teams in Ohio (Moeller, St X, Mason, Elder) while also competing
in two PBR events (PBR Classic and PBR Showcase). We also look forward to competing for the
GWOC National Title with the likes of Beavercreek, Fairmont, Springfield, and Wayne. We look
forward to playing at a high level on a day to day basis against such terrific programs. After graduating
8 seniors, we have numerous areas to address going into the 2020 season. However, we
are fortunate to return 10 letter winners and a strong senior group that is prepared to take steps
towards leading our program on and off the field for 2020. Seniors Alex Beyerle, Chris King, Luke
Miller, Will Rahe, Joe Requarth, and Ben Wesney are the leaders of the program. They will be
joined by returning letter winners Tad Ferrell, Matt Graveline, Kyle Mahon, and Ethan Muckerheide.
We also have a strong group of sophomores and freshmen that will compete to help the Varsity
squad. Holding ourselves to a high standard on and off the field while also upholding our cultural
values of Family, Attitude, Skill, and Team will help determine where this season will take us. We
look forward to having you as a part of the journey.
HEAD COACH
Jason Whited
Jason Whited was selected to take over the
Centerville Elks program in June 2014. Whited
was chosen to take over for Miami Valley Baseball

assistant for the Elks they were able to achieve a
record of 78-27 and win 3 GWOC Championships,
2 Sectional Titles, obtain 3 20 win seasons, and
help 14 players go to play at the next level. Prior to
joining the Elks program Jason served as the head
coach for Waynesville High School and achieved a
two year record total of 22-27. Since being chosen
to take over the Elks Program Coach Whited has
had 17 players go to play in the college ranks, 7 1st
Team All Area Players, 6 All GWOC Players, and 4 All
State Players. Coach Whited also currently serves

BOYS & GIRLS TRACK
HEAD COACH
Matt Somerlot
Girls Track 2020
The girls track team picked up right where they left off last winter and return to the state indoor meet with 6 individual
qualifiers. Maddie Welsh (Pole Vault), Ellie Spiewak (Pole vault & Triple Jump), Kerri Walsh (3,200 meters), Mia Robillard
(1,600 meters) and Meghan Hodges (weight throw) will all represent the elks at Spire Academy at the state meet.
The girls had 8 additions to the top 5 board, 1 school record this indoor season. This will be a huge help as we head
into outdoors!
The outdoor season will kick off this year as we will travel back to Hardin valley Academy in Knoxville, TN to open the
season. Our spring break trip will take us to the Hardin Valley Invitational, one of the best meets in Tennessee and
a great early season start point for our young team. The 45th Elk Relays has the strongest team line up ever and the
team will travel to Columbus twice in the regular season plus the Wayne and Mason Invitational, long time staples in
our schedule. We believe that these meets will build off of what we have done indoors and will create opportunities for
our student athletes to contend for the 2020 state championship in June at OSU Jesse Owens Stadium.
Boys Track 2020
The boys track team qualified the 4 x 400 relay team (Weller, Anderson, Callahan, Stevens) and the 4 x 200 relay
team (Fullenkamp, Lynn, Sims & Callahan) to the state Indoor championships this winter. Cameron Stevens (200/400),
Kristopher Artis (weight throw), Matthew Stuber (weight throw), and Nathan Lynn (Triple Jump) all qualified individually
as well. The boys competed all over Ohio and Kentucky and placed 11 new top 5 performances and built a great deal of
depth and experience as we head into outdoors. In all we had more individuals compete indoors this year than we have
the past five years, a great sigh if things to come in the future!

CENTERVILLE BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Reflections and Goals
The Elks look to bounce back from the 2019 season and compete in the Ohio High School Boys Volleyball
State Tournament in Columbus!
The 2019 Boys Volleyball Team completed the program’s Fifteenth season. One elk was named to West
Region honors-Senior Clay Devilbiss to First Team.
This season promises to be another exciting one for the Elks as the team is ready to continue the strong
tradition of success. The 2020 team returns ten varsity players from last year’s squad. This year’s players
include Seniors Chris Sucato, Nick Abuyuan, Joe Ely, Matt Jaeger, Milan Shah; Juniors Ethan Stuart, Colin
Stava, Justin Waller, Michael Johnson, Nate Madding; Sophomores Corey Holbrook, Aiden Buirley, Kevin
Whitehead; Freshman Parker Rings. Many of these players spent the off-season training and playing on club
teams to hone their skills. They are ready for the challenges of the 2020 season.
The Elks were scheduled to play a very aggressive schedule against many of the top ranked teams from
the Dayton area and across Ohio. But due to the COVID-19 our schedule has changed. We will be playing
a League schedule, and possibly a couple more matches for this short season. The regular season will wind
down Senior Night on June 8th against Kettering Fairmont. Regional post-season play commences the
week of June 5th at the top two seeded schools, culminating with regional finals on Saturday, June 13th at
Centerville High School.
Great things await the boys’ volleyball program this season as all the teams strive to uphold the program’s
strong tradition of excellence. The team looks forward to an exciting year as the players write their
own chapter in the history of Elks Volleyball with their sights set on the opportunity to play for the state
championship. Please come out and join the team for another season of thrilling play.

The Centerville Jazz Band is Centerville High School’s nationally recognized and award winning Marching Band. Their unique
sound and visual design have been entertaining audiences and adjudicators year after year. With over 180 members, the
Centerville Jazz Band is one of the largest student organizations on campus. This past summer the students began working on
their 2019 competition show entitled, “Rhapsodic”. The show features familiar and exciting music from George Gershwin’s

In addition to performances at football games, the band travels locally and nationally in a variety of competitive circuits. Last
year, the band was a 2nd place finalist at the Bands of America Oxford Regional, and was a 12th place finalist at the Bands of
America Indianapolis Super Regional. At Bands of America Grand Nationals, the Centerville Jazz Band advanced to semi-finals
competition finishing 26th among a field of over 100 bands. The Centerville Jazz Band was recently selected to perform

COACHES
CENTERVILLE BOYS LACROSSE
Troy Stehlin
We are looking forward to the 2020 season with seven seniors of which
three have committed to play collegiate lacrosse. The season schedule
is an ambitious one that hopes to prepare players for another state
tournament run. Some highlights include playing the most-winningest
program in MHSAA history, Brother Rice HS, and taking on perennial
Ohio powerhouse, Upper Arlington HS. The program will focus our
efforts on our leadership principles FAMILY and RELENTLESSNESS.
We hope that anyone who attends our game will come away with the
impression of a family-like teamwork and relentless attitude on the field.
Head Varsity Coach: Troy Stehlin
L-R: Troy Stehlin, Thomas Ravlin, Connor Carroll
Coach Stehlin is entering his fifth season as Head Coach at Centerville
High School. Prior to the head coach job at Centerville, Troy worked
with Coach Tim McKay at Indian Hill High School as a JV head coach
and Varsity Assistant. During his coaching career, Coach Stehlin has
had opportunities to coach at the Naval Academy and numerous
summer tournaments with the Cincy Royals amassing wins against
Leading Edge (NJ), Casey Powell’s World Lacrosse (FL), and PROMO
(MO). Troy became the winningest varsity coach in Centerville lacrosse
history during the 2019 season and achieved the most wins in a single
season (18) in that same season. Troy is proud to have coached players
that have gone on to play at Mount Union, Capital University, Roanoke,
Denver University, University of Dubuque, Ohio State University,
UMass-Lowell, Bellarmine, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Otterbein
University. He works as an English teacher with Centerville City
Schools. Coach Stehlin loves spending time with his wife Caroline, son
Quinn, and dog Jake when he is away from lacrosse.
