Crystals for calm

“CRYSTALS BRING COMFORT TO ALL MY FAMILY”

Sarah Jane Timmins,

30, runs a crystal jewellery business

in Bolton. She lives with her

two children, her dog, and her

partner Craig, all of whom

use stones individually.

“Crystals have been a part of my life

since I can remember. My mum was

very spiritual and she introduced me to

crystals as a child. She’d give me one to

hold if I was ever feeling low, or if I was

nervous about going somewhere I could

choose a stone to take with me that

would provide some extra security. I’d

keep it in my pocket and give it a little

rub if I felt worried.

Sadly, I lost my mum when I was

14 and a big part of my healing and

grieving process process involved

her crystals as I inherited a lot of her

old stones. My jewellery business is

actually named after my mum and she

always told me that she’d help me

from the realm of Spirit. If I’m missing

her, I’ll pick up one of her crystals and

it will always bring me comfort.

I find crystals help in all areas of

my life. I can get quite nervous at times

and if I’m doing something different

to my normal routine I often feel quite

fearful, but crystals help soothe me

and bring a sense of calmness.

Some of my favourites include

smokey quartz, clear quartz and lapis

lazuli. For me, amethyst is a great allrounder

and can help with a multitude

of problems, and if I’m feeling lonely

I wear some rose quartz to boost my

mood too.

All my family use crystals in order

to bring comfort and a sense of calm

into their day. My dad made a little

box out of wood that my mum would

keep her crystals in, and I still have it

now. If my children can’t sleep or have

nightmares, they come downstairs and

I let them choose a stone out of the

box to hold. Then they go to bed happy

and feeling a little better.

My son also suffers from low

confidence. The effect it has on him is

heartbreaking – sometimes he walks

around the school playground on his

own, and it’s so sad to see. I made him

a hematite and aventurine bracelet

and a clear quartz necklace, and the

difference in him when he puts them

on is incredible. He goes from shy and

nervous to talkative and smiley.

I also made my partner a

labradorite and smokey quartz

bracelet for protection and to give him

a sense of calm while he’s at work in

the barbershop we own.

I’ve always taken a natural

approach to healing, and crystals are

a big part of our lives as a family. I’m

very grateful for the comfort they

bring us.”

Craig says: “Sarah has always been

immersed in crystals and I started

learning more about them when we

got together. I wear the labradorite

and smokey quartz bracelet she made

me all the time and find it a massive

comfort, especially with situations

at work. As a barber, I listen to a lot

of conversations all day and people

do offload on you. It can be difficult

sometimes not to take on everyone’s

emotions. The stones help me to feel

grounded and a bit safer. They provide

me with an amazing lifting feeling and

I feel less burdened.

I’ve spoken to quite a few clients about

crystals too, and many of them have

gone on to buy some of Sarah’s pieces.

It’s good to see males benefiting from

these stones – and realising that

they’re not only useful for women.”
