For my plusplan I want to create surrealist photography
of inanimate objects. This can be pictures I take
myself, but also photoshopped images made from
open source material. Putting inanimate objects in a
different context than they are usually in.

After doing my competency assesment I realised I
should create more work that reflects my artistic vision.
That’s why I wanted to do this project. I got inspired
by multiple artists, including: Paul Fuentes,
Nancy Fouts, Randy Lewis, Dariusz Klimczak, Benjamin
Henon, Studio Les Creatonautes.

Mistakes / failed experiments
Sometimes something looks good in my head, but
when I make it, it doesn’t look that good. Here I show
my mistakes or failed experiments. Because mistakes
are also part of the process.

I had fun with this project. Although my plan has
evolved quite a bit. At first I wanted to create a video as
my final product, advertising for a fictional event. Kind
of like the inspiration video by Rob en Robin for “Vieze
anita festival”. I would also design a visual identity for
this fictional event. Then I realised that a visual identity
or a fictional event aren’t important for this plan or
this resit. What is important is creating surreal visuals
and experimenting with visual language and composition.
I also wanted to take all the pictures myself. However,
the camera I wanted to use was not as good as I
thought it was. So I took pictures with my phone and
also used images I found online.
I must say it was difficult to look at inspiration images
for this project. Because what happens is, I will have
an object that I want to include, like, a hammer. Then I
will see a surreal image with a hammer, and can’t unsee
this image. This way it gets difficult to think about
a concept for my hammer image without thinking of
the image I saw before. I learned this pretty quickly. So
I stopped looking on sites like pinterest, or the artists
that inspire me.
