Hordle Parish Council
Serving the communities of Tiptoe, Hordle & Everton
The Parish Council would like to thank everyone who is helping others at this difficult time. We
have heard amazing stories of neighbours and friends helping each other out with essential tasks
like shopping and collecting prescriptions while lockdown has been underway which has meant
that volunteer groups have been able to concentrate on the most isolated and vulnerable people
needing support.
Local support groups have been operating in Tiptoe, Hordle and Everton and responding brilliantly
to local need. Volunteers from Hordle Church and the Parish Council Community hub have helped
people in Hordle, Everton support has been centred on the local post office and store as well as a
local Covid support group and Tiptoe have a group of local residents who are offering help in the
community. The WI in Hordle has offeredkeeping in touch phone callsto people where needed.
What have the Parish Council been doing? At the start of lockdown the Parish Council delivered a
leaflet to every household in theParish. At this time the Parish Council took on a co-ordinating
role sign posting people to get the help they needed and asking people who wanted to volunteer
to act as good neighbours by supporting local people in their area. At the beginning of May, as
requests for help increased the Parish Council set up a community support hub with registered
volunteers who were able to offer direct support to enable people to get essential shopping and
prescriptions. We are now getting requests for help from people who have contacted the
emergency Hampshire County Council number as well as those we receive directly via the phone
or on email.
The current position. At the time of writing steps are being taken to move out of lockdown.
However the Parish Council community hub is stillable to directly help or signpost people who are
vulnerable and who need help with shopping, collecting prescriptions or who are lonely.
Hampshire County Council have an emergency line for vulnerable people who do not have
support from families, friends or their local community, and who need assistance with practical
issues. They will discuss your needs and can help with food supplies and welfare concerns.

Business as Usual – The Parish Council continue to manage public open space and facilities. The

guidance but will be reopened when we can safely do so. Thanks to everyone who has abided by
this necessary closure.

HordleFlowerClub, like many other
clubs, have not been able to meet since March
but have kept in touch by newsletters and
emails. Being affiliated to the National
Association of Flower Arrangement Societies
(NAFAS) we have access to our local Wessex &
Jersey Area of NAFAS. They have been very
supportive and issued Bulletins including ideas
for creating floral activities at home.
Recently they have held a Virtual Area Show
in place of a competition that was due to be
held at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, Romsey and
open to the public after judging. As of course
this Show had to be cancelleddue to the virus,
they decided to ask members to create
arrangements at home which could be
photographed and emailed. There were various
classes based on the original schedule, but it
was agreed that there wouldbeno judging and
the photos would be shown online and social
media for all to enjoy. They have also asked for
photos of activities that members have been
doing during lockdown and will do a collage
of these later in the year. TwoShow photos

Not aNormal Year..Sadly,
HordleGardening Club likeso many
organisations had to cancel our meetings way
back in March. Weve been keeping in touch
with members andhave even had a couple of
fun quizzes to while away some time, but I know
were all looking forward to hopefully starting
our meetings again as soon as we are allowed.
How are you? And how are your gardens
growing? It has been reported that many people
have an increased interest in gardening and
growing their own vegetables this year simply
because they have more time to do so because
of thestay home rules of the coronavirus.
Whatever the reason I hope that interest is
maintained when life gets back to normal –or
rather thenew normal.
If you read my article in the last issue of Your
Village you may remember I hadbroken my
ankle rather badly. I was away from home for 12
weeks, missing all that beautiful weather, and
even when I didget home I couldnt do much in
the garden or should I say the jungle as I
was only just starting to walk again. But it was a
reminder that everything keeps growing even
when were absent, and particularly the thugs ie
those plants, and not necessarily weeds, that like
to spread if unsupervised! As well as lots of
brambles appearing, I have a beautiful rambler
rose (Kiftsgate) that over thepast couple of
years Ive been trying to train up a tree trunk,
when I got home I found that itslong and
wayward arms are flung in all directions and
certainly not around the tree trunk!
On the plus side, seedlings that might have been
removed had I been there have actually taken
hold and are easier to recognise. Echium
pininana –aslightly tender biennial more
normally seen in Cornwall or theCanaries, which
grows a rosette of leaves in its first year, then in
its second year it throws up a huge spire of tiny
pink and blue flowers to about 3 or 4 metres. Its
a real talking point, and the bees absolutely love
it, once it has flowered it dies, but hopefully
once you have it in your garden, seedlings will
appear each year. Another tender plant
appeared from .

Wisley Cream has appeared in the gap

will probably appear on our Plant Sale Table
at our next meeting. Certainly the mild
winter, and lovely spring helped these along.
TaiChi Group back in action
Sadly, in March with the Covid19 crackdown the
Hordle Community Association was obliged to
close the village pavilion. This resulted in all the
regular groups having to stop their activities with
immediate effect.
However, with the recent easement in
government restrictions the Tai Chi grouphave
enterprisingly been able to recommence their
exercise routines in small groups in the open air,
outdoors in thepark.
I am only just beginning to walk, so I cannot
do much in the garden, but I cansit and
enjoy it potter a little and plan for next
year.
Looking forward to seeing you at a Hordle

FACIAL REFLEXOLOGY TM (with NaturalFace Lift Massage)
REFLEXOLOGY & PREGNANCY REFLEXOLOGY
A
relatively new therapy, Facial Reflexology
(The Bergman Method) is a buzz word
amongst the red carpet and works on the
same principles as foot reflexology
stimulating reflex points associated with all
systems and organs of the body. The
proximity to the brain and cranial nerves
ensures a profoundly relaxing and subtly
powerful experience with some uniquely
therapeutic benefits.
Facial & foot reflexology treatments aim to
reduce the symptoms and effects of many
common ailments including stress,
insomnia, migraines, IBS, back pain,
arthritis, anxiety
and hormonal
disorders. Both
treatments are
extremely
popular during
pregnancy and
can be used to
help promote a
shorter, natural
labour.
Facial reflexology, however, has added
benefits besides helping your body
function at its optimum, including a
reduction of fine lines and puffiness,
rejuvenating skin tissue and encouraging a
more toned, radiant and glowing
complexion. Combined with Natural Face
Lift Massage, facial reflexology can give the
appearance of lifting theskin & facial
muscles.
The 100% natural non-invasive treatment
can be combined with Natural Facelift
Massage or foot reflexology to provide a
blissful combination of wellbeing and
rejuvenation. Treatments arecumulative.

AWARD 2020
WILDLIFE MATTERS ... to all of us
COASTAL PROTECTION,
WILDLIFE HABITATS and
DESIGNATIONS
In the near future, the Environment Agency
and the New Forest District Council will be
undertaking a formal public consultation on
the future management of the coastline
between Hurst Spit and Lymington.
Global Warming and associated sea-level rise,
saltmarsh erosion and the threat of more
extreme weather events are some of the
factors that will be considered over the next
few years. All will undoubtedly come under the
most intense scrutiny.
MCV wish to play its part in helping inform the
community and invite them to consider what
they perceive to be the most important aspects
of the changes that will inevitably need to take
place, especially, where our local coastal
wildlife habitats are concerned e.g. the Solent,
Lymington River, Lymington Reedbed,
Lymington Yacht Marina, the Lymington &
Keyhaven Nature Reserve, including such
important sites at Keyhaven, Pennington, Oxey,
Salterns and Normandy Marshes, Fishtail, Butts
and Keyhaven Lagoons, 8 Acre Pond, Iley Pond,
Iley Point, the Pans Wetlands, Avon Water,
Baskets Meadow, Keyhaven River, Keyhaven
Harbour, Saltgrass Marsh, Mount Lake, Sturt
Pond, the Danes Stream, Sturt Pond and the
lower Danes Stream.
we shall have to work with nature and not
against it e.g. involving coastal protection
techniques that aim to work with natural
processes and could include realignment,
restoration, enhancement and alteration to
existing features, but may exclude traditional
flood defence engineering that sometimes
works against nature.
The coastline between Hurst Spit and
Lymington will be considered in this
consultation and will include the Environment
Agency, Natural England, NFDC, HCC, Milfordon-Sea
Parish Council, Hampshire Wildlife Trust
and the National Park Authority et al.
Local, National and International designations,
will all be looked at under a microscope by the
various agencies and bodies that will come
together to find the most viable and best
possible outcome for our communities and
wildlife.
It is likely (as evidenced elsewhere), especially
where coastal communities have existing
floodingproblems, that in looking to the future,
MCV need you to tell us what you
consider to be the most important
aspects ofour coastline that you would
like to see protected .. andenhanced.

Is Your
Dog As
Bored As
You?
30
Lets face it, lockdown has been a bit boring
hasnt it? So much seems to have changed
now, but one thing that has remained constant
through all of this, is the bond that exists
between us dog owners and our faithful
friends. Nothing seems to faze them, and they
remain our perfect loveable companions.
Unlike us, they wont admit to being bored and
grumble about it all the time, but when you
look closely, you can often see it in their faces
or the way they slump listlessly around. That
being said, I thought it would be a good idea to
share with you some boredom-busting, fun
activities that you can do with your dog in your
home and garden to give them some physical
and mental exercise and banish the blues. Lets
get started.
The first is scatter feeding. Instead of chucking
your dogs food into their bowl, take their dry
food out in the garden and scatter it across a
metre or so of lawn. Then, let your dog come
out and explore. They will have to use their
nose and sniff out their meal. They love this.
Dinner times have never been so much fun!
play it inside or outside with just you and your
dog, or together with other family members
too.
There are actually alot of things you can try
with your dog which are stimulating not only
for them, but for you as well. Ive started a
YouTube channel dedicated to this topic, and
you can find me demonstrating some of the
ideas that Ive been talking about in this article
and more besides. Heres the link: https://
www.youtube.com/channel/
UCR7DyJtC4MatHHUoS-TcEHg
In addition to my channel, there are a number
of Apps and websites out there to give you
even more ideas. A good place to start is the
DOGO App.
Here are several others.

If after all this, your dog still looks a bit bored,
then why not treatthem for a walk with
Sophies Pet Care? This month, to celebrate reopening
after the lockdown, theyre offering a
buy one get one free offer for dog walks for
new customers. Now theressomething thats
sure to put a smile on Fidos face.
Another interesting diversion is alick mat.
This is a mat with a raised and spikes surface.
The idea is that your smear some yummy stuff
like peanut butter (pet safe) on the mat, and
let your dog try to lick every last bit off. It takes
ages and they absolutely love it.
But its not just food fun you can try; hide and Check www.sophiespetcare.com for more

Lockdown
Support
for Schools
from
Olivia
Inspires
The Coronavirus lockdown has had a big
impact on many charities andMilford
charity, Olivia Inspires has unfortunately
not been
immune. Set up
by the parents
of Milford
student, Olivia
Burt who
tragically died
in 2018, Olivia
Inspires aims to
allow Olivias
spirit to live on
in the achievements of others. The charity
assists disadvantaged young people aged
11 to 18 years, living in the New Forest
district, by providing grants to help them
develop their potential in STEM (science,
technology, engineering and
mathematics), the arts and sport.
Lockdown saw applications for support,
which had been steadily rising, dry up
overnight. It also meant that a number of
fundraising events had to be cancelled or
postponed, the most significant being the
sell-out Milford Rocks event, which was
due to be held on 21 March. Thankfully,
the group of Village Mums who have
organised the event are very hopeful that
it will be rescheduled to a date after the
summer.
During lockdown it has become apparent
that young peoples education has
suffered immensely and sadly, as is often
the case, those facing financial hardship
have been the worst affected. To try to
help the situation, Olivia Inspires has
contacted all of the secondary schools in
the New Forest district to offer support
targeted at the most vulnerable pupils.
Priestlands was the first school to benefit,
receiving funding for six laptops which will
be given to year 7-9 pupils to enable them
to access lessons remotely. It is expected
that the other schools will be receiving
funding for a range of different projects
very shortly.
With lockdown easing and schools
starting to open we want everyone to
know that Olivia Inspires is very much
open for applications, said Olivias father,
Nigel. We know that lockdown has been
really tough for young people, so if there
is anyone out there that would like a
helping hand to catch up with vital school
work, or perhaps improve in a sport or
artistic interest then we would love to
hear from you.
Applying for an Olivia Inspires award is
really simple. There is an on-line form on
the website which will take just a few
minutes to complete and then the charity
will do the rest.
If you would like to find out more about
Olivia Inspires or if you know anyone who
might benefit from an Olivia Inspires
award, please visit the website where you
can also make online donations:

questions please dont hesitate to
contact: admin@oliviainspires.org.uk.
