I am extremely proud of the quality and range
of services we provide to families across
Canada and internationally. This is my life's
passion and I love seeing the difference we
make in peoples lives.
I have been very fortunate to have spent the
last 20 years working with newborns and
supporting parents and in my role as a sought
after maternity nurse I have travelled
extensively working with families across the
world.
However I was surprised when I moved to
Canada in 2012 there was not the same access
to much needed support services to parents
that was available in other parts of the world.
In setting up the company, I made it my goal
to take the best aspects of what I had
experienced in other countries and put my own
stamp on how to support you better.
I'm also delighted to launch our Community.
There is no manual that comes with a newborn
baby and I'm excited that we will have our all of
our expert guidance under one umbrella and
available to support our families who have
booked their newborn nanny with us.
I have a thirst for knowledge and I continue to
take courses on all manner of pregnancy & baby
topics, I think at last count I had over 70 courses
taken and I am a bit of a course junkie.
Ensuring that you get the best service possible
and have full confidence in whomever in my
team you are working with is very important to
me. I am personally involved in interviewing and
on-boarding every team member and as the
company CEO I am central to the day to day
running of the company.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME
A NIGHT NANNY?
Ellen : Well, I adore all things baby
related, and I love helping people.
So this role seemed a perfect fit for
me. It's a very rewarding role and a
special opportunity to work closely
with parents and their newborns,
helping to guide and support them
and allow them to catch up on rest
and sleep. It's a very privileged role
to be in.
Ivy : The postpartum period is one
of immense change and often
support during that period is
lacking. Working with new families
during that time can be such a
magical experience. It is beautiful
to see new parents grow into their
roles and learn how to care for
these tiny little beings. The Night
Baby love!
Nanny role allows me to care for
these women and their family as
they experience the biggest
transition of their lives. The baby
cuddles don’t hurt either!

baby is such an awesome privilege.

Love your sleep!
I remain in awe of this situation
every time it occurs. There are very
few words in the English language
that can truly capture the essence
of what I personally experience.
Ellen : "Dream job" springs to mind!
It's an honour to be working with
parents and their newborns at such
a precious time in their lives. As a
pediatric nurse the hectic hospital
environment doesn't always allow
for as much one to one basic caring
time with newborns as one would
like, so having the opportunity to
spend quality time with beautiful
tiny babies and to help them thrive
and grow is a truly rewarding
experience.
Melissa : It's the best! Who doesn't
want to hold newborns? It's 6
pounds of pure joy and happiness
that we are fully committed for 12
hours. As a mother they all feel like
my nephews and nieces, and every
time an old client sends me a pic I
tear up. I love my job so much!

Jenny : Hiring a Night Nanny simply
empowers parents to be the best
that they can be. That in itself is a
gift to a newborn.
Ivy : Many people hear the words
Night Nanny and they think of
luxury, lazy parents, and celebrities!
I like to say though that I am not
"doing for” but instead I'm “doing
with”. Although, yes, one of the perks
of hiring a Night Nanny is better
sleep, we are not a babysitting
service.
I help parents establish trust
between themselves and their
infants, I teach parents important
information such as proper breast
milk storage, healthy sleep routines,
and developmental stages.
I work WITH parents to ensure their
transition from independence to
parenthood is as smooth as possible.
Ellen : I think it's a must when
planning for the arrival of your
baby. It is a really positive
experience and can help everyone
settle in to the new world of being
parents. Extra help and support,
particularly at night time is always a
plus that new parents never regret.

Our Families
Who better to tell you more about our service than new moms
who hired our Night Nannies. We asked Alyson, Stephanie, Kate
and Aviva to tell us more about The New Mummy Company.
Can you tell us the reasons
why you decided to hire a
night nanny?
Kate : We decided to hire a night nurse for a
couple of reasons. The first and most obvious
was that we wanted to sleep. We have a
toddler at home and knew that the option to
sleep when the baby slept wouldn't be an
option the second time around. We knew we
would be better parents and happier people
with sleep.
The night nurses were especially helpful as our
child had severe colic at the time, In addition, I
broke my wrist and the help was so beneficial.
Aviva : As a new mom, I knew I would have
many questions when bringing my baby home
for the first time. We hired a night nanny
because of their wisdom and rich experience.
It was comforting to have someone whom I
trusted and looked to for guidance daily. She
also became familiar with our baby, so the
advice she offered was personalized.
The second reason is that our first daughter
had a choking apnea episode when she was 3
weeks old. It was very important to us, for our
piece of mind that someone be watching our
new baby when we were sleeping to make sure
she was safely cared for and observed
throughout the night.
Alyson : For our first child, family provided us
with the services of a night nurse as a baby gift.
I didn't even know this service existed
and it was such a reassurance to have a
professional come and help me at nights with
our first born. When our second child was born,
it was a no brainer to hire nighttime
help again.
Stephanie : A few weeks after giving birth to
my first child, I felt completely overwhelmed
and exhausted. I had met a rep from New
Mummy Company at the Babytime show a few
months prior. I’m pretty sure I sent them an
email at about 3am on a particularly “bad
night”. A few days later, we had met with and
hired Ira & Raman and they both instantly
became part of our family.

Comfort and
Guidance
How did you find the process
of selecting and interviewing
your Night Nanny with us?
Alyson : I found the placement staff very helpful
in researching which night nannies would be
beneficial for our family, based on our wishes
and needs. They were incredibly responsive
and accommodating, and I was able to
interview nannies within a week of letting them
know what we were looking for.
Kate : I had very specific requirements; I wanted
an RN, I wanted someone who assured me that
they would not sleep on the job and I wanted
someone who I felt comfortable would adapt
into our home and family while understanding
boundaries and respecting our family time.
I interviewed several night nannies at The New
Mummy Co and felt incredibly fortunate when I
met Linda and Kelsey as they completely
understood my requirements.
Aviva : We clicked with Tammy instantly. She
was not judgmental, was a good listener, and
we felt comfortable with her years of
experience.
Can you tell us about the
benefits of having a Night
Nanny in your home?
Stephanie : I was really stressed over the idea of
bringing a stranger into our home to take care
of our infant during the night. I was worried
about how it would affect our daughter (and
me!) but I was pretty desperate for some sleep
and willing to give it a shot.
We could tell Ira was a very warm, gentle person
from the first time we met her but had NO idea
how great she could be with our baby.
She walked into our house on the first night and
our 4 week old our daughter was screaming her
head off (as was the norm in the evenings).
Within minutes, Ira had her swaddled and
rocking quietly to sleep. She came to be known
as the “baby whisperer” after that day.
I was nursing full-time so, even though I would
wake up to feed the baby, I could rest assured
that Ira was perfectly capable of putting
my baby back to sleep in a calm and peaceful
manner. Not only did she take excellent care of
our little one but she also taught us A TON of
tricks that made our lives much easier when she
wasn’t around.
Regarding Raman, we were looking for a
newborn nanny to watch our baby girl for a few
hours, a few times each week so I could run
errands and have some “alone time”. She had
such a great personality – bubbly, energetic,
outgoing. Plus she was a pediatric nurse so I
figured she was a great candidate to watch our
little girl. Indeed she was! Over the 10 months or
so that Raman worked with us, I never had to
worry when I left the house.
I felt completely confident that she was capable
of handling anything that might arise at home
while I was out. Plus, she and our baby girl
formed a great bond and had lots of fun playing,
singing and hanging out together.

Aviva : Additionally, it was important that I
could recover from my labour. Sleep was
critical to my personal recovery and in
regaining my strength, it meant I had more
energy to be an attentive mother.
Alyson : Peace of mind was number one for me.
My husband travels a lot for work too, so it was
such a relief having someone spend the night
when he was away after having our first baby.
Kate : I felt very comfortable with both our
night nannies. I knew our daughter was in safe,
capable and caring hands, this allowed me to
have a full night's sleep and feel energized
during the day.
I loved that they kept such detailed notes in
the journal so I knew everything that had gone
on the night before. Without asking, I always
woke up in the morning and the bottles had
been cleaned and sterilized and baby laundry
done.
How did your night nanny
help your experience with
your newborn?
Stephanie : A little bit of sleep goes a LONG
way. Feeling refreshed made my time with my
daughter so much more enjoyable because I
had the energy to be in the moment with her.
Alyson : I was able to get much-needed rest. I
was also able to speak to a professional about
the questions I had about my children and
their nighttime feedings and sleep schedule.

What would you say to
expectant parents thinking
about hiring a night nanny?
Aviva : So many women are concerned with the
pregnancy itself that they forget to think about
postpartum care. Hiring a night nurse was one
of the best decisions we made - it helped us
learn as new parents and contributed towards
my personal recovery.
Kate : I would say if you can afford to do it, it is
the best money you can spend when you have a
new baby. I truly believe it helps the healing
process for the mother, helps the home adjust
to the new living situation, makes the
relationship between mom and dad easier as
this can be a challenging period... I could go on
and on.
Alyson : Put your money towards a night nurse
rather than the unnecessary baby clothes, toys,
gadgets, etc. Sleep is so important, and parents
can suffer through months of sleep deprivation
with children.
Stephanie : DO IT! We are now expecting our
second child and there is no question as to
whether we will hire a night nanny again.
Without family in the city, it was really lovely
having that night nurse come and provide any
suggestions to the questions I had, or just
provide a listening ear.
Kate : You cannot discount the benefits of
sleep. I felt more confident in my ability to care
for the baby because I wasn't exhausted and
because I felt like I had a partner who was
constantly giving me feedback (when solicited)
and offering expertise and advice.
