The Buckeye District of The American Rose Society presents The Buckeye Rose Bulletin Upcoming Events: Fall 2003 Spring Buckeye District, Judging Seminar, March 20, 21 Consulting Rosarian School/Audit, April 24 From the Director… The first ever Combined Fall District Convention and Rose Show with the Great Lakes District is now history. My thanks and appreciation goes out to Co-Chairs Jerry & Peach McCarthy and Rick & Carol Robertson along with everyone in the Toledo and Huron Valley Rose Societies who helped to make the event a success. In addition to the rose show awards, there were special awards given at the Saturday evening banquet. The Silver Honor Medal was awarded to Tom Wood of Hilliard. The district Outstanding Judges Award was won by Jim Wickert and the Outstanding Consulting Rosarian Award went to Peg Newill. Congratulations to each of these deserving Buckeye Rosarians. Also at the banquet, I presented the District Director Citations for outstanding service for 2003 to Past District Secretary, Denise Mraz; Past Consulting Rosarian Chairman, Steve Pyrak; and members of the Toledo Rose Society. At the Buckeye District Business Meeting, the following officers and chairmen were approved: President – Larry Schock, 1 st Vice President: Bruce DeLong, 2 nd Vice President – Jerry Dolph, Secretary – Lisa Weber, Treasurer – Lori Hilfer, Prizes and Awards – Anne Hering, Consulting Rosarians – Tom Wood, Horticulture Judges – Dr. Jim 1 Hering, Arrangements – Dr. Gary Barlow, Bulletin Editor/ Website – Randy Lady, Roses in Review – Mark and Marie Jones, Membership – Brian Burley, Local Society Relations – Cheryl Menard and Youth Advisor – Mary Kay Burgess. My thanks to Past President, Jim Zimmerman and Past Roses in Review Chairman, Stuart Schulman, for a job well done. Also at the business meeting, members voted to donate $1500 to the ARS Klima Capital Campaign Fund. Dr. Jim Hering with co-chair Jon Wier held a very successful horticulture judging school at the district meeting. As a result, we are proud to announce the addition of seven new Apprentice Judges: Bruce DeLong, Tom Herr, Marie Jones, Mark Jones, Jeanette Pavuk, Len Pavuk and Larry Schock. Congratulations to each of you, and thank you to Jim and Jon and their assistants, Dr. Gary Barlow, Brian Burley, Dr. Lew Shupe and Lois Wier, for a job well done. Dr. Hering also reports that three Horticulture Judges have requested a change from active to emeritus status: Dave Edwards, Edna Edwards and Tren Meyer. Thanks to each of them for many years of dedication and service to the Buckeye District.
