Top tips to
ace your job
application!
Always try to:
Meet Charlotte
As Talent Manager at Aiimi (www.aiimi.com), a
pioneering tech company, I’m always asked for top
tips on how people can stand out in job applications.
Applications and interviews can feel quite daunting,
but knowing how to prepare can give you peace of
mind to walk into the room with confidence and do
your best. Here are my four top tips for how to ace
your job application. Good luck!
How to stand out in your job application:
I always think quality over quantity is key when
applying for roles. Make sure you tailor your
application to each company, referencing them directly
in order to show your genuine interest in that position.
Your CV and cover letter should be well formatted and
easy to read – so find someone to proof-read them
before you send to avoid mistakes! Do your research
and make sure you highlight your experience in line
with the role. You want to demonstrate your full skillset,
even if it may not be directly related to the task at
hand. Remember that transferrable skills can come
from all sorts of experiences.
Follow up on your application! You may not be right for
that particular role, but the company may keep you in
mind for future opportunities. Also – don't be afraid to
ask for feedback. Any feedback or advice could prove
beneficial to your next application so get as much of
this as you can.
Things to avoid:
Always be honest. If it’s on your CV, you will likely be
asked about it during an interview. Make sure you can
talk about any experiences, technical skills, projects
etc. that you have listed. You don’t need to include
personal details such as your full address, date of birth,
gender etc. Your name, location and contact details
(make sure these are correct!) is more than enough.
These more personal details may be requested as part
of a formal application, such as an online form, but are
not needed on your CV itself. Finally, avoid
inappropriate email addresses such as
princess99@email.com or killallthealiens@email.com (I
have genuinely seen this on a CV!)
What does Aiimi look for in a CV?
We want to see your experiences to date – whether
that’s work based, academic, or voluntary – and how
they relate to the role you have applied for. We also like
a bit of personality, so tell us something interesting
about yourself in your personal statement or share your
hobbies with us. The CV is not the only part of your
application; you can build on this by sharing a cover
letter detailing why you want to work for Aiimi or
include this detail in an email.
For job opportunities at Aiimi, send Charlotte Richmond your CV at crichmond@aiimi.com, or check out our current roles at www.aiimi.com.

Childcare.
Nadine Lewis,
People Services Assistant
Dawsongroup plc
What position were you hired for at

Personnel Administration Assistant at
Dawsongroup plc.
Did you experience any challenges
with your job search, prior to
attending the MK Job Show?
I had just started my job search a few weeks
before the MK Job Show. I found it difficult
to contact agencies and get feedback. It
was a slow process.
Why did you decide to attend the MK
Job Show?
As I had been working abroad for 5 years,
I found it difficult to get in touch with
employers and explain my skillset and what
relevant qualifications I had. I felt it was
necessary to talk to someone face to face
and go through my CV so they knew my
experiences and what I could offer as an
employee.
What attracted you to your current
employer and what do you like
about working for them?
Kids Play team were very welcoming and
had a friendly approach. They offered me
the flexibility that I need for a work life
balance and thrive themselves on employee
welfare and well-being.
What would you say to a Job Seeker
considering attending the MK Job
Show?
I would say it’s definitely worth attending.
Having lots of industries and employers
under one roof is a great opportunity for
you to get a feel of what suits you best. As
well as ask questions to potential employers,
which normally you wouldn’t get a chance
to do. You can also browse and query
various roles that may be of interest to you.
It’s a great opportunity to put yourself out
there!
Did you experience any challenges
with your job search, prior to
attending the MK Job Show?
Although I was actively seeking full time
employment, I hadn’t seriously sat down
and looked for a job before attending the
MK Job Show. I had visited a few job sites
but didn’t know what role I was looking for
or what job I would be best suited for.
Why did you decide to attend the MK
Job Show?
We had just moved to Milton Keynes from
South Africa and my parents had seen the
advertising for the MK Job Show in the
area. They suggested my brother and I
attend so we could hopefully find full time
roles and pick up a few brochures to see
what was out there.
What attracted you to your current
employer and what do you like
about working for them?
Dawsongroup was the last stand I visited
before leaving the MK Job Show. They
work in the same industry as my dad and
were advertising HR roles which interested
me. Since joining Dawsongroup, they
have provided me with many training
and learning opportunities, as well as
opportunities for advancement.
What would you say to a Job Seeker
considering attending the MK Job
Show?
It’s a nice event to attend and you really
never know what you might come across.
There are a diverse range of employers that
attend the MK Job Show who can highlight
roles that you probably never knew existed.
Daniela Parsolea-Cotosman,
MCSP B5 Physiotherapist
Milton Keynes University
Hospital NHS
Did you experience any challenges
with your job search, prior to
attending the MK Job Show?
As a newly qualified Physiotherapist with no
previous experience in the NHS, I found it
difficult to find a job that would fit my family
commitments and be close to home.
Why did you decide to attend the MK
Job Show?
I was curious to see what job opportunities
were available. My role was not advertised
on Milton Keynes Hospital website at the
time, so I was not expecting to be offered a
job interview, however as it was becoming
available soon they were happy to offer me
an interview.
What position were you hired for at
the event?
Band 5 Rotational Physiotherapist at Milton
Keynes University Hospital NHS.
What attracted you to your current
employer and what do you like
about working for them?
Milton Keynes Hospital offer plenty
of support, supervision and share of
knowledge for newly qualified therapists.
I enjoy being part of a multidisciplinary
team that works closely together towards
achieving best patient outcomes. There
is always someone there to offer support
when needed.
What would you say to a Job Seeker
considering attending the MK Job
Show?
Enjoy it! You never know what jobs are on
offer that you probably did not know about
from careers websites. I think the face to
face contact with potential employers can
make a real difference in getting a job offer.
Jacob Provan,
Engineering Apprentice
Lockheed Martin
Did you experience any challenges
with your job search, prior to
attending the MK Job Show?
Finding an engineering role wasn’t an
issue, I’m passionate about engineering
and I’d had several offers from different
companies, but it was Lockheed Martin
that I really wanted to kickstart my career
with. I’d heard about all the great career
opportunities and benefits a job at
Lockheed came with – this was always
the only career choice for me, and I was
determined to make it happen – it was
through the MK Job Show that I finally
secured the apprenticeship of my dreams!
Why did you decide to attend the MK
Job Show?
My auntie showed me an article for the MK
Job Show which said Lockheed Martin was
hiring and will be at the Show. I knew this
was my opportunity to go and get in front
of the hiring managers and make a lasting
impression – and here I am today, part of
the Lockheed Martin family!
What position were you hired for at
the event?
Engineering Apprentice.
What attracted you to your current
employer and what do you like
about working for them?
It has been my dream to work for
Lockheed Martin since I was 16. As it is an
organisation that is pushing the boundaries
of science and innovation to the extreme. A
global leader with a formidable reputation
for defence and future technology. I love
working at Lockheed Martin because I
am constantly learning and being given
opportunities to do better by those around
me. I work with a great set of talented
people that are passionate about what
they do, it’s a great environment to work
and thrive in.
What would you say to a Job Seeker
considering attending the MK Job
Show?
From my experience anything is possible.
If you have a dream that is bigger than
anything that’s holding you back, then
keep moving forward and keep believing
in yourself. Attending the MK Job Show
gave me my big break and it could do the
same for others too.
