Bixby’s main goal is to provide the best possible
quality of life for our residents. We continue to
achieve this goal in two ways, by creating destination
attractions and providing opportunity for economic
growth. Bixby neighbors Oklahoma’s second largest
city, Tulsa. While Tulsa comprises over 200 square
miles, Bixby’s 25 square miles provides residents with
the “small town charm” while having ample access to
amenities and entertainment. For several
years running, Oklahoma Magazine
has awarded Bixby the Best Small
Town in Oklahoma award.
Growing more than double in
population since the beginning
of the 2000s, Bixby has become
Tulsa’s fastest-growing suburb,
packing in numerous destination
attractions into our 25 square miles.
Strategically we have planned outdoor lifestyle
attractions along the Arkansas River which flows
through the middle of our town. This creates not
only a beautiful and serene backdrop for events and
activity, but also increases our cities’ walkability.
Residents can visit Washington Irving Memorial Park
& Arboretum, a 32.5 acre wonderfully wooded park
located just north of the Arkansas River Bridge, and
walk or bike the trail leading into the Downtown
River Corridor. The Corridor crosses Harmony Bridge
into Bentley Park Sports Complex and finishes into

Downtown Bixby. Throughout the years, we have
increased quality of life for our residents by spending
over $20 million on the Downtown River Corridor.
Improvements include not only the Harmony
Bridge, but also the upcoming addition of a North
River Access park between the Harmony Bridge and
Washington Irving Memorial Park & Arboretum. The
North River Access Park accommodates additional
parking and adds more greenspace along the River.

helps with our bonding capacity. Our bond rating
is the 2nd highest of all Oklahoma cities, with only
Oklahoma City surpassing us.
As the City continues to grow, we will continue
toward maintaining our Best Small Town and
ensuring the quality of life for residents remains
unsurpassed.
The regional walking trail leads from Harmony
Bridge to Bentley Park Sports Complex. The Complex
consists of 114 acres housing 14 youth soccer
fields, an International Soccer Field, practice fields,
a large playground, splash pad, 2 quads of baseball
and 2 quads of softball, horseshoe pits, and bocce
courts. In 2020, we are expanding the amenities at
the Sports Complex by adding additional parking,
lacrosse and football fields.
The final stretch of the trail goes from Bentley
Park into Downtown Bixby. Bixby’s Downtown
Streetscape Project, which will be completed
in 2020, will assist in Downtown River District
Revitalization efforts leading to a growth of
business in Downtown. Not only has the population
increased, with an average of 270 new residential
housing permits issued each year since 2000, but
the revenue received from sales tax has seen a 34%
increase over the last five years. Delivery services
have also added a revenue source for the City with
a 70% increase in use tax received since collection
began in 2017. The increase in revenue allows us to
continually invest in infrastructure and other needs

Bixby Public Schools

The Bixby school system is a wonderful place
for people to work and students to learn.
Having recently completed my second year as
Superintendent of Schools, I am confident we
a strong foundation to accomplish incredible
things for Bixby’s children and families over the
next decade and beyond.
Bixby is one of the fastest growing districts
in Oklahoma. In the last ten years, Bixby has
progressed from a 5A school district with just
over 4,000 students to a 6A district of over 6,800
students. The district’s growth is anticipated to
continue for the next decade, reaching over
9,000 students in 2028. To accommodate this
student growth, we have recently completed
a classroom wing at the Middle School this
year and will open a new West Elementary and
Intermediate School in August. Over the next
year, we will begin planning for an extensive
renovation of our High School campus,
beginning as early as the summer of 2022.
The district has a well-deserved reputation for
excellence in academics, athletics, arts, and
student activities. Bixby High School is rated in
the top 15 high schools in the state in annual
ratings done by US News and World Report.
Our students’ proficiency levels on annual
state testing has been among the highest in
Oklahoma for many years. Of course, we are
very proud of our five-time state champion
Spartan Football Team, the six-time state
champion Pride of Bixby Marching Band, and
our award-winning Marine Corps Junior ROTC
program, among others. Suffice it to say, we
have many things for which to be proud in BPS.
I am also pleased with our district’s efforts to
instill character and citizenship in our students.
Bixby Schools is the only district in Oklahoma
to be recognized as a Great Expectations Model
District. These practices and philosophies match
well with our Spartan motto to “Learn Well and
Live with Honor.”
Our vision in Bixby Schools is to be a place
where all students have the opportunity to
learn, excel, and own their future. We are
committed to the shared mission of “igniting the
potential of every child.” Our updated strategic
plan is driven by the premise that we must be
innovative and responsive to meet the needs of
every child in our schools. It is an exciting time
to be a Bixby Spartan!
Bixby is blessed to have involved citizens who
are committed to making our city a wonderful
place to live, work, and raise a family. I have
witnessed this pride in our schools and
community as I have worked with various
groups throughout the year.

HISTORY
Bixby has a rich history full
of growth and progress.

two towns by the
Midlan Valley Railroad.
The history of Bixby is like many other cities –
agriculture was the major industry and the lure of
the region with its lush river bottom land. It was a
contest between the settlers and Mother Nature
(floods, droughts, hail, wind, rain, tornadoes). Oil
and gas also played a part of Bixby’s story, along
with ongoing issues with bridges and crossing the
Arkansas River.

Since 1947, the Bixby Metro Chamber has been the
key organization for businesses in the Bixby area.
Our mission is to offer a wide variety of programs
and services that stimulate economic growth and
spearhead initiatives that help grow the Bixby
community.
We accomplish our mission
by helping to:
1) Create a Better Community
through advocacy, relationship
building and events;
2) Build Stronger Businesses
through visibility, connections and
marketing; and
3) Personal Development
through leadership development,
education and committee involvement.
While a typical year for the Chamber includes
business and community events, education
opportunities and multiple publications, 2020
has proven to be a year of change for all of us.
The COVID-19 pandemic pushed the need for
a local business network to the forefront. The
Chamber’s goal during the height of the pandemic
response was, and into the future is, to be a key
disseminator of information for our businesses and
our community. Keeping business owners educated
on guidelines for safety, federal, state, and local
changes and rules that affect their operations, and
providing an avenue for our citizens to know that
our businesses are open and active is a small part
of what the Chamber does on a daily basis, and we
hope that our Partner businesses and beyond were
able to benefit from these services. Making sure
all businesses continue to have access to funding,
balance the need for additional safety protocols

while protecting the ability to do business, and
aiding with needed marketing and network building
will continue to be top priorities for the Chamber.
In 2019 we announced the creation of the Bixby
Development Foundation, a 501(c)3 entity that
will focus on the long-term success of the Bixby
area. One piece of the strategy for the Foundation
was a location that can support our current and
future entrepreneurs, and in January of this year
we officially unveiled plans for a future building
in partnership with the City of Bixby. Our goal for
this space is both private and shared workspace for
entrepreneurs, space for business and education
events, conference room space and space for
virtual meetings. We want this building to be a
source of community pride and fill a need for our
start-ups and early stage companies with accessible
space, mentoring, and resources needed to grow
their business.
We don’t know what the future holds. The flooding
event of May 2019 showed us all what our
community is - #OneBixby. The challenges of 2020
have proven that the spirit that makes Bixby such
a wonderful community was not a one-time event
but an ongoing, underlying thread that shows up
consistently. The support of our locally owned and
small businesses has been inspiring – the ways that
our business community and service organizations
have stepped up to re-enforce their love for our city
– and the way we have all worked together during
a time of challenge proves this.
We are proud to serve Bixby, and here for anything
that may be needed. As we move forward, we
envision it being together, prosperous, and
continuing the #OneBixby spirit.

We love Bixby, and we know you do too! Here are some of our favorite
things Bixby and the surrounding area offer.
Shopping
Whether you are looking for modern furniture
from North Carolina Furniture Mart, a piece of
Bixby bling from Fieldhouse Gear, or that oneof-a-kind
fashion accessory from Abelina’s,
the Bixby area aims to please. There are many
options along South Memorial Drive in addition
to major shopping districts like Post Rock Plaza,
including car dealers, produce shops, and
furniture stores.
Dining
Finding somewhere to relax after a long day of
shopping and entertainment is easy in Bixby
deciding which restaurant to choose is the hard
part. From popular favorites, such as Chick-fil-A,
Hideaway Pizza, and Jimmy’s Egg to locally
owned restaurants such as Ah-Sigh-e, Cardinal
Club, Johnson’s Stepping Stone Café, Michael
V’s, or Dos Bandidos, to hot spots such as
Treys Bar & Grill and the ever popular Nothing
Bundt Cakes, the Bixby area has it all. Hit one of
our events and you will find Bixby’s own 1907
Barbecue serving from their food truck!
Parks
Bixby offers numerous outdoor activities at their
parks which include the Bentley Park Super
Playground and Splash Pad, Washington Irving
Memorial Park and Arboretum, Charley Young
Event Park, Quail Creek Park and Lake Bixhoma.
Bentley Park’s splash pad and playground are
popular destinations for local families, but
the park provides further amenities including
walking trails connecting to the Arkansas
River and state of the art facilities for baseball
and softball tournaments. Washington Irving
Memorial Park boasts beautifully wooded
walking trails and picnic areas. Lake Bixhoma
offers a retreat from the buzz of everyday life,
providing a relaxing place to walk, fish, or enjoy
a quiet picnic along the water. Charley Young
Event Park features family friendly programming
almost every weekend, including a Farmer’s
Market during the summer months.

Healthcare
Healthcare is one of the most vital services a
community offers. Bixby’s proximity to quality
healthcare certainly makes it an attractive place
to live. There are two major hospitals within a
15-minute drive from the center of Bixby, and
multiple doctors’ offices located in the city. St.
John’s recently opened a primary care and urgent
care in the heart of Bixby, and Utica Park Clinic
is now open as well. OU Physicians Tulsa South
opened in 2018 to serve our residents. Bixby
is centrally located to thousands of physicians
covering every major area of practice — all to
ensure our community’s well-being.
Community of Faith
Bixby is home to many houses of worship. Whether
you are looking for contemporary, modern, or
something in between, you will find it. Bixby’s
churches, despite differences in denomination or
beliefs, all work together to better the community
in their own way.

“What’s local?” my executive chef
asked me when I offered to buy lunch
for the Cardinal Club staff during
the “April Dining Room Shutdown
of 2020” due to COVID-19. I
immediately start listing off some
of my favorite local restaurants
from which to choose. “Chet’s, Dos
“RESTAURANTEURS ARE TAKING THEIR INFLUENCE
OUTSIDE OF THEIR FOUR WALLS AND LOOKING TO
POSITIVELY IMPACT THEIR COMMUNITY. SOME PEOPLE
MAY NEVER SET FOOT IN THESE RESTAURANTS, BUT CAN

replied, as I tried not to leave anyone
out that I knew was still offering
carryout service. We ended up with
some delicious chili-cheese dogs from
Chet’s Dairy Freeze. As we sat and ate,
I couldn’t help but repeat those words
in my head: “What’s Local?” I began
to think what the world, and more
specifically the local economy of the
South Tulsa/Bixby area, would be like
if the questions of “Where should we
shop?”, “Where should we eat?”, or
“Where should we (enter your favorite
verb here)?”, were
always met with
“What’s local?”.
We opened
Treys Bar & Grill in
November of 2014
and then Cardinal
Club in February
of 2020. Both are located at 108th
and Memorial in The Vineyard on
Memorial. The vision behind Treys
Bar & Grill was to let our South Tulsa
and Bixby neighbors know that they
hadn’t been left for dead with chain
restaurants. Suburbs are famous for
their chain restaurant attraction,
while chain concepts are hardly ever
seen in downtown domains. We
didn’t want people to have to drive
downtown to celebrate Bixby, Tulsa,
and Oklahoma traditions and staples.
Our concept pays homage to Cain’s
Ballroom, Admiral Twin Theatre, Tex,
The Outsiders, and even has a twelve
by twelve in-perspective mural of the
whole city of Tulsa. We are a nonsmoking,
family-friendly restaurant
that is known for award winning
food, including our chili, burgers and
Orange Chipotle Chicken appetizer.
Cardinal Club is a semi-private fine
dining restaurant and cigar lounge
that is members-only from 11am-
5pm Monday-Friday and open to the
public 5pm-10pm Monday-Friday,
and all day Saturday and Sunday.

When I was growing up,
restaurants were just somewhere
you went to eat. Good food could
shoulder the load for any concept.
Then entertainment started to really
drive customers and revenue which
incentivized restauranteurs to add
themes, atmosphere, and focus on
the full “enter to exit” experience.
Now, restauranteurs are taking their
influence outside of their four walls
and looking to positively impact their
community. Some people may never
set foot in these restaurants, but can
still feel the affects of their efforts.

At Treys, we have done
everything from clothing drives
for the Bixby Outreach Center
to fundraising auctions for
the local chapter of the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation. We’ve hosted
“percentage of sales” nights for
youth teams and other organizations
and we’ve donated our own goods
and/or services to other auctions
around town. If you’re not careful,
you can donate yourself right out
of business. There are just so many
wonderful organizations doing real,
meaningful work in our community!
So I wondered if I could come up
with a way to positively impact my
neighbors, help organizations doing
important work in our community,
and still make sure that I can stay in
business. This brainstorming session
led to what we now call The Giveback
Burger.
The Giveback Burger allows
philanthropy to live on our menu every
day. Instead of donating a percentage
of one night’s sales to a particular
cause, we let an organization reap
the benefits of a whole month’s worth
of a fundraising and exposure. Two
dollars of every Giveback Burger
sold during that month goes towards
the nonprofit organization that we’ve
partnered with for that particular
time. A wonderful added benefit
of this has been that our customers
get to learn about the purposeful
work these organizations are doing
in our community. This is just one
example of the many ways that
local restaurants are supporting our
community.
So remember, next time you are
looking for a place to spend your
hard-earned money, ask yourself,
“What’s local?”
