One of the perks of working on this magazine is the

ability to see the most beautiful abodes that estate

agents, developers and private sellers have to offer.

It’s even more awe-inspiring when the backdrops

for these properties consist of nothing more than

natural beauty. This issue ticks all the boxes as there

is a heavy focus on the Greater Antilles in the Caribbean, which as we

all know is a luxurious region. Fortunately for me it’s an area that I call

home, having spent 22 years living in Jamaica.

So, as an ode to this part of the world, you can choose to invest in the

Cayman Islands with its immaculately-maintained white sand beaches or

reside amongst the coconut and palm trees while taking in the intoxicating

music and culture of Jamaica. In addition, the Dominican Republic is

renowned for its tropical flora and fauna, whereas Puerto Rico, with its

archipelago, has no restrictions for international buyers.

My thoughts are now drawn to the Turks and Caicos, which I have

been told has a thriving property market. So, as if holding a brush to a

blank canvas, I will ensure that I paint for you the best of what this island

has to offer in the future.

Stretching from the River Thames opposite

Battersea Park to Kensal Green, luxurious and

esteemed residential enclaves hug the streets of

Kensington; a Royal Borough with so much to

offer that the affluent can’t seem to stay away. According

to Warren McCann, area director of the central division

at Douglas & Gordon, “The prestige and charm of Kensington

attracts buyers from around the world. Some seek

a trophy address close to the wide, open spaces of Hyde

Park, others are drawn to the history and architecture.”

Adding to its rich history, Clodagh Blain, Foxtons Earls

Court sales manager says, “Kensington was largely developed

between the years of the great exhibition in 1851, up

until the early 1900’s. The result of this development was

gorgeous townhouses and mansion blocks.”

With two distinct locations within the borough to

choose from: South Kensington (SW7), and High Street

Kensington (W8), families crave the appeal of the more

spacious residential settings on offer, making Kensington

superior to other areas in the capital. Peter Sheehan, owner

and director of The London Resolution adds, “Whereas

Marylebone (as beautiful as it is) comprises mostly tall,

thinner flats and houses as well as some roads being mixed

residential and business use, Kensington boasts many large

attractive houses of between 5,000 to 15,000-plus sq. ft.

“Kensington is serviced by a number of underground

stations including Gloucester Road and South Kensington

in the south, High Street Kensington in the middle,

Notting Hill Gate in the north and Holland Park at its

most western point. Yet, you have to walk a number of

miles between the most southern and northern stations,

highlighting Kensington’s expansive, verdant offering”,

he continues.

While the spacious abodes draw the most attention,

the architecture makes it a highly desirable area, too.

Influenced by French and Dutch designs, Mr McCann

reveals, “The white stucco fronted buildings are particularly

popular due to the generous proportions of the flats.

carpentry. The end results are beautiful,

durable and comfortable homes that are not

short on luxury.

The Agios project, in particular, is the largest handmade

wooden complex in Cyprus, and will feature two

residential buildings, two saunas and a garage within

a total area of about 2000m². The structures are being

handmade using clever techniques with materials that

were brought to the island from Russia.

The main building is being constructed using

high-quality Siberian cedar, while the blockhouse will

be made at the Smart Wood production base in the

Moscow region. The use of wood to build properties

is new to Cyprus as there is a long-standing tradition

of designing houses with stone and concrete. However,

with a high-quality approach to construction, a wooden

abode will integrate harmoniously with the environment.

Other construction materials and interior items

were shipped in from Russia, Europe and America.

Those involved in this project are highly qualified

carpenters, engineers and foremen from Russia, Lithuania

and Cyprus, among other countries. The use of

such skilled workers is of the utmost importance to the

company to ensure that every project is built with love,

care and professionalism.

In addition, Smart Wood structures are assembled

using non-shrink technology, which makes each home

timeless, and there will be no intervention required in

the long run owing to this. To date, work on the complex

is nearing completion and the owners will be able to

move into their new home by December 2020.

research, coupled with assembling no

less than 935 parts, filing two patents

fundamental invention, the Tourbillon

24 secondes, the sheer attention to detail

has made this project one of the most

complex of its kind.

The acoustics of this watch are all the

more impressive given that the timepiece

is water resistant to approximately 30

metres. In addition, a titanium acoustic resonance cage

was developed inside the case band itself, so as to provide

the loudest possible volume. The two striking hammers

are visible on the dial side, featuring flat black-polishing,

hand bevelling and polished countersinks. The gold bridge

supporting them is relief-engraved and has the same

exceptional finishes, as well as straight-grained flanks.

While the movement is manual-winding, the striking

mechanism also features an automatic winding system

by means of a platinum oscillating weight engraved with

the Greubel Forsey guiding spirit. Despite its complexity,

Greubel Forsey has aimed to complete five to eight of these

timepieces each year.

Kikuno attended the Tokyo School of Jewellery

before embarking on his journey to make watches

completely by hand. Kikuno uses manual machines

Bremont H-4 Hercules watch, it pays homage to the 1940s Hughesera

ranks as one of the greatest

philanthropists of modern

times. He loved a lot of things: among them

opera (he had 30 translated into English

so audiences could understand what was

going on); archaic Chinese bronzes, folk art

and Dutch and British paintings.

In 1993 his foundation bought a

dilapidated mansion in Warwickshire,

Compton Verney set in 120 acres of

Capability Brown landscape. The building was restored

and six galleries were created and furnished with his

collections, which remarkably include four paintings by

the great 17th century master Lucas Cranach the Elder

(1472-1553.)

Earlier this year, Compton Verney briefly opened an

exhibition devoted to the life and legacy of Cranach which

brought together more works by the master and described

his life as court painter to the Electors of Saxony; as a

successful entrepreneur and as printer and illustrator of

Martin Luther's radical texts.

Sadly, within five days, Compton Verney was shut down

owing to Covid-19, but online tours of Cranach can be

seen on its website. Now Compton Verney has opened its

gardens and grounds to members – so join up! The house

remains closed, but this is at least a chance to experience

part of Moores' hugely generous gift to the nation and help

keep Compton Verney alive for future generations.

has continued to be the world's largest open submission art show,

held without interruption for 251 years even during the two world

wars. Thousands of works by amateur artists, Sunday painters,

art school graduates, naifs, folk artists, print makers as well as

academicians are annually submitted for inspection by a panel

and the result is often a very mixed selection, which is regularly

drenched in criticism. In spite of this, the Summer Exhibition is

extraordinary. Sibling YBAs Jane and Louise Wilson are this year's

curators under the chair of the RA's new president, Rebecca Salter.

playful retail store for Headline, a

fashion platform in Surabaya,

Indonesia. The concept is to

create an engaging environment

that gives customers unique

experiences at the time of their

visits.

designed with a big arch-shaped

opening fitted with tempered

glass.

The store itself, is organised over

three areas. On the front, the

Conveyor-inspired display; made

of plates and specifically

customed with dynamo motoric

to spins the plates.

At the central area, clothes’

display racks are framed on both

sides by wall pink curtains,

supported by floor-to-ceiling

brass gold steel tubes.

And the back area consists of

two key features: stone installation

shoes display composed of

fake stone that cover an entire

wall and a gigantic toilet bowl

installation made from resin for

selfie-takers.

to announce the easing of lockdown

was Brussels, where the Old Masters

Museum now allows tours of its fabulous

collection including paintings by Pieter

Bruegel the Elder. Last year marked 450

years since the death of the great Flemish

painter whose landscapes and scenes

of peasant life were eagerly collected

in his day. Among the most famous and

recognisable are The Wedding Dance and

The Land of Cockaigne.

In Vienna, the Albertina Modern has

also opened its doors in the renovated

18th century Künstlerhaus. The inaugural

exhibition, The Beginning. Art in Vienna,

1945 to 1980, is the first-ever complete

overview of post-war Austrian art. The

collection of 60,000 works of modern and

contemporary art includes masterpieces

from the Essl Collection and from the

Jablonka Collection together with the

Albertina’s longstanding holdings.

In Italy where museums and galleries

are reopening, prime minister, Giuseppe

Conte, said new precautions must be

respected. "If you love Italy, keep your

distance," was his message.

In Germany, larger museums have

joined the small rural ones which opened in

April. Brandenburg led the way with strict

limits on visitor numbers and new hygiene

rules. No group tours are allowed. Berlin's

world-renowned museums such as the

Bodes Museum, and the Gemäldegalerie

normally welcome millions every year and

the same is true for all the major European

museums so you will probably have a long

wait to book your slot. Check all websites if

here's one art form that you can't easily lock up –

murals – and for a while these were the only paintings that

the public could enjoy while taking their daily exercise.

Many works once classified as graffiti and vandalism are now

highly esteemed and widely traded in the art market. As far

back as the 1970s, New York gallerists were collecting

graffiti art and prices in recent times have skyrocketed.

A work by Jean-Michel Basquiat sold for $110million in 2017

making him the most expensive American artist of all time. Top

notch art fairs like Frieze and galleries such as Pure Evil and Stolen

Space exhibit works by all the 'masters', the most famous of whom

arguably is the 'mysterious' Banksy whose Girl With a Balloon was

voted Britain's nation’s best-loved work of art.

September should hopefully see the opening of London's first

ever Mural Festival organised by the Global Street Art agency. The

event, backed by the Mayor's office, was planned to be centered

on the Olympic park enterprise zone and to run for a fortnight with

live demonstrations. Among the big names who had signed up

before the Coronavirus pandemic were Ben Eine, Camille Walala, Mr

Doodle, Mr Cenz and Dale Grimshaw.

Japanese car manufacturer Aspark has unveiled its new fully electric hypercar to rival other

competitors in the automotive industry. The Owl, which is the company’s first project, includes an

automatically extending spoiler, digital cameras integrated into the wing mirrors and an interior that

sees controls and switches embedded into the ceiling.

The company has put it all on the line when it comes to the cars’ performance specs, claiming

a top speed of 249mph, and a run from a stop to 186 mph requires a mere 10.6 seconds. With the

ability to hit 60mph in just 1.69 seconds, it is the quickest in the world. Electric cars are known to

weigh more than your average gas-powered vehicle thanks to their hefty battery packs, but this is

not the case with the Owl. There is a 64kWh lithium ion battery, which is of a much smaller capacity

than those in competing models with the aim of reducing the overall weight.

The car's smooth curved shape was chosen to portray a feminine appearance. The body features

a mix of taut creases and smooth curves. All of the panels are carbon fibre reinforced plastic, except

for a stainless-steel frame in the roof for extra support. Included in the design are four extremely

powerful electric motors, which produces a total power of 1480 kW with 2012 horsepower. The

production version of the Owl is limited to only 50 cars worldwide, so it is best to register your

interest very quickly. Each one will be fully customisable.
