Mark Nelson fi rst started riding through the Canadian Pony Club and 4H programs, and represented the St. Lawrence<br />
and Ottawa Valley Region Pony Club in Triathlon. Today, he continues to support the horse programs of the 4H Club<br />
as a volunteer.<br />
Mark experienced his fi rst taste of international success riding the ex-racehorse, Power of 2. The pair enjoyed a 16th<br />
place fi nish at the CCI** Bromont Three Day Event in Quebec, earning Mark Long Listed status with the Canadian<br />
Eventing Team. Two other horses currently in Mark’s string are Rhodes Scholar, bred by Canadian Olympian Garry<br />
Roque, and Oh Chez, a former racehorse originally purchased as a resale project that has now found a home with<br />
Mark’s family.<br />
A certifi ed farrier, Mark operates Oakhurst Farm with his wife, Ruth Allum, who is<br />
also his coach. Together they have two children, Eric (2001) and Tatum (2005).<br />
Mark is involved as a volunteer with his son’s school skating program and, when<br />
he can fi nd free time for himself, is an avid scuba diver.<br />
