F O O D & D R I N K Time to eat out WITH THE GOVERNMENT’S ‘EAT OUT TO HELP OUT’ SCHEME COMING INTO EFFECT FOR THIS MONTH, WE TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE PARTICIPATING TASTY DINING-IN OPTIONS AROUND THE AREA There’s no doubt that the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown restrictions have had a devastating effect on the hospitality industry. Forced closures saw many canny restaurant owners turn their hand to delivery and collection services to keep business ticking over - and to keep us in an array of tasty dining options to be enjoyed from the comfort of our own homes. But since lockdown easing measures last month have allowed eateries to reopen - albeit with stringent Covid-19 protection measures in place - it seems our appetite for eating out has returned with a vengeance. And from August 3 to 31, diners will be able to benefit from the government’s new Eat Out to Help Out scheme, which sees a 50% discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in, up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this month at participating establishments. Those establishments will then be able to claim a reimbursement from the government for the discount they’ve given. Here we take a look at just some of the local, independent eateries which have signed up for the scheme. Why not pay some of these a visit and help to get the hospitality industry back on its feet.
