“The festival was initiated in 1962 by then Minister of Community

Development (and later Prime Minister) Edward Seaga, to

showcase literary, fine, and performing artists, and to celebrate

"things Jamaican." The festival was considered integral to national

development as a way of giving Jamaicans a sense of who

they are, and what their history and culture is all about. The

festival was scheduled for the first Monday in August, to coincide

with the holiday to celebrate both Independence and Emancipation.

The festival includes agricultural exhibitions, and

street parades, climaxing in a grand gala at Kingston's National

Stadium. Supporting events take place all over the island. A

formal organizing group, the Jamaica Festival Commission was

established by an Act of Parliament in 1968, which became the

Jamaica Cultural Development Commission ,(JCDC) by another

Parliamentary Act in 1980.Today, the administrative structure

includes a large volunteer-base with a JCDC officer appointed

to oversee activities in each parish. The festival now includes

“Papa Michigan (born Anthony Fairclough)

and General Smiley (born Errol

Bennett) were among the first dual-toasters

on the first wave of Dancehall style in Jamaica.

Beginning in the late 1970s while

still in school, the humorous duo (Smiley

got his name because he never smiles)

scored immediately with "Rub a Dub

Style" and a toasted Real Rock version

named "Nice up the Dance."

Errol Bennett shouldn't be confused with

the Jazz-Funk percussionist mostly known

as Errol.”

Papa Michigan now perusing his solo career

and doing it great. He has many hit

songs since the duo and remain relevant in

and out the dancehall. His greatest comeback

is his festival song, “JAMAICA

DANCE” “Bubble baby Bubble” which

earn him the #2 spot at the song completion

finals 2020 that came in at number 2

to the legendary dancehall Great Buju

Banton who will tell you that even he himself

follows in the footstep of Papa Michigan

in this music we called Reggae.

All Papa Michigan fans world wide

thought he would have won but Buju Banton

song, “I’m a Jamaican” took precedence.

In the mean time Papa Michigan congratulated

Buju Banton on a victorious win.

He also mention that all the top ten finalist

are winners cause there was over 200

songs entered and to be the final 10 you’re

a winner and most of all he gives great

admiration for Toots who stand the test of

times and still here after 54 years as the

first winner in 1966 with “BAM BAM.”

Its amazing to share the stage with him and

even for that he is grateful and humble for

the experience..

Papa Michigan has always been an optimistic

human being who believes you can

do what ever your mind and thought conceived

if you put in the work. As a true

Jamaican he always want to enter the national

song competition and he did.

He is very happy for the results and eagerly

urges all his fans to respect and accept

the decision of the finals and hope we

can do it a next time and most of all thanking

all his fans for their support over the

years.

For his newest album project, dance hall deejay

Papa Michigan had one desire: for it to be different.

And, fortunately for him, the man who

wears “different” like a badge of honor, DJ Dre

Ghost, was only too happy to oblige.

“When he said he wanted something different, I

was on board. Different is my middle name,” the

sought-after producer told The Sunday Gleaner

from a hospital waiting room in Los Angeles last

Wednesday. A super excited DJ Dre Ghost was

eagerly awaiting the arrival of his first granddaughter,

but he still managed to retain some of

the joy associated with his Michigan project.

The album is titled, “Put Your Loving On Me,”

and Grammy winner, Dre Ghost produced six of

the tracks.

“I’m excited for both of us,” he shared. “The

album sounds great. I enjoyed working on this

project. We finished up yesterday, and today,

I’m having a granddaughter. (I have a grandson,

too.) To do something with Michigan is great.

He’s a legend, and I love working with legends.”

But frankly speaking, producer Dre Ghost is

himself a legend whose name has long been associated

with heavyweight American rap group,

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. His music has appeared

in the movie Barber Shop and is used

often by major network television program Fox,

MTV, VH1, ESPN, in their programs and/or

commercials.

“Listed as one of the original innovators of rap

music, his early influences came from such artistes

as Earth Wind N Fire, Rolling Stones, Parliament

Funk adelic, Pink Floyd, and Jimmy

Hendrix. He confirmed to The Sunday Gleaner

that his first major project came when he coproduced

East 1999 for Bone Thugs-N-

Harmony. The album East 1999 broke The

Beatles’ 30-year record for the longest-standing

#1 album and won a Grammy Award. DJ Dre

Ghost’s production of their single, The Cross

Roads, reportedly sold two million units, propelling

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony to super group

status.”Dre Ghost was introduced to Papa Michigan

about a year and a half ago by a mutual

friend, but he already knew of the Jamaican entertainer.

“Of course, I knew about Papa Michigan

and Smiley,” he said of the duo which had a

series of smash hits in the ’80s.”

“I have always been a fan of reggae. Bob

Marley, Gregory Isaacs, Buju Banton are up

there. I also like Soca. Actually, I listen to

everything and mix it like a gumbo,” he said.

Dre Ghost and Michigan formed a natural

bond, which, not surprisingly, transcended

into a musical collaboration. He gave the deejay

a few tracks, which Michigan took to Jamaica

and did his thing, which, according to

Dre Ghost, “blew me away”.

Papa Michigan’s 13-track album comprises

remixed and brand-new songs that are written

and produced by him, along with a cast of

cutting edge co-producers, engineers, and

musicians.

“Put Your Loving On Me”, the title track,

enjoyed its pre-release in September 2019,

and Michigan says that it has made its way

into the top 10 on charts in the Caribbean as

well as globally in Africa – Nigeria, Ghana,

Gambia, and Senegal; Europe – the UK and

France; and the Americas – USA, Canada,

Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil.

“The single is doing way better than I had

even imagined. I wanted something different

for this album, and I am happy with the outcome.

Thanks to all the persons who worked

with me on this project. Sometimes, in life,

you meet persons who, in no time, become

family, and that’s the vibe with me and Dre

Ghost,” he said, echoing Dre Ghost’s own

sentiments. The album, Put Your Loving On

Me, will have its official launch on January

2020.

Papa Michigan made his name with hit songs

including Rub A Dub Style, Nice Up de

Dance, One Love Jam down, and Diseases.”

A real example to our life Papa Michigan has

never record a song promoting hate or death

towards anyone but prophetic songs with

educational lyrics and we grew up listening

his music which help to make us who we are

today and for that we thank you Papa Michigan

We all know that this US constitution was built for “We the people.”

But somehow the people who don't believe in equality has create a system

to oppress others and becomes so good at it that even in the 21st century

we have to remind ourselves that black people lives matters. Most of our

people are stuck on the Obama Presidency and it is not okay cause in actuality

its in the past.

The current President ran an Election on what he says he was going to do.

He won so why are we surprise, now the most civilize thing to do is to

celebrate the winner and move on hoping that he will be President for

those who vote for him and those who didn't , now the true democratic

ideology is we support the winner. There will be always watch dogs both

in the media and in Congress, we must always remember that even though

you didn't vote for him he still remains our President. He has a heart and

feelings and a family who believed in him even before he became President,

as he is still a human being who got a job to care and protect the

American people. We should not tear him down or twist his word into

creating a different narrative than what its original intent.

Of course he will say things that are divisive and has no value of what we

stands for and that may be the very same true reason why you didn't vote

for him in the first place. However we still has to hold him up and remind

him that’s not what our Constitution stands for without tearing him apart

cause he is still our sitting President.

What I observed is the right wing supporters did the same thing to Pres.

Obama. Now the left is doing it even worse to the Donald.

Which led me to ask when will this nonsense stop. Knowing our President

is not our Enemy, he may be on a different side of ideas, which may make

him an opponent, but (not an Enemy). America has the most law abiding

Citizen in the world. We are a beacon of democracy lets show the world

how we play the game of democracy.

Without polarizing and lying, hating, and putting things out of content just

to satisfy hate and jealousy.

In this life time I see its only 45 Persons has got this Job. They get a

chance to represents 300 million people and bring there family to be first

family of the nation and enjoy all the perks that comes from our tax payers.

We should not be upset but use the Constitution as our guide and to

the best of our ability

Instead of tearing a sitting President down, We should just wait to vote the

next 4 years for who and what matters to you.

This has been a great concern to me cause America is the greatest country

to live in based on the Constitution and we should with all means protect

it, uphold it, Practice it, live it, be it, export it, and spread it!

The humanities has long await it securities and freedom of speech, freedom

of press, and the freedom to pursue happiness and wealth.

And I must take this great opportunity to thank all the military personnel

on the frontline holding up and protecting our values and Ideology. I plead

to our security forces when they come home please don't kill them because

they or black while driving.

And always be there for them in every way we can cause they made a

great sacrifice to be on the front line while we at home enjoying what

they are fighting for. God bless America and all our Allied.

Lets support our leader if we don't like his performance every 4 years we

know what to do. We don't have to lie and tear him down. He is someone

Dad, someone friend, someone family member and our fellow American .

We Celebrate winners that’s what we do.

Thank you “GUZIGAR”

Marcus “Mosiah” Garvey Jr. O.N.H. was a Jamaican political

activist, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator. He was

the founder and first President-General of the Universal Negro

Improvement Association and African Communities League,

through which he declared himself Provisional President of Africa.

Marcus “Mosiah” Garvey born August 17, 1887 in the Garden

Parish of St. Ann, Jamaica, a parish that Produce many more

great such as Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Iqula, Shaba Ranks,

and Many more. Roger Stone who most people thinks he is a

raciest strongly believe that President Trump should pardon

Garvey and the Buju Banton.

“The only person I have advocated a pardon for," Stone answered,

"is Marcus Garvey.” “Marcus Garvey? As in Marcus

Mosiah Garvey, the legendary black nationalist leader who

nearly a century ago inspired Liberation Movements in colonized

Africa and the Caribbean? Garvey, who advocated selfgovernance,

economic and political empowerment, and a “Back

to Africa” movement for black people in the Diaspora?” This is a

surprise to many including one of Garvey’s sons, Julius Garvey,

a vascular surgeon who lives in New York, said “he was also

surprised by the campaign by Stone to pardon his father but did

not object to it.”

“Who would have imagined Roger Stone would be involved in

this?" said Michael K. Fauntroy, associate professor of Political

Science and acting Director of the Ronald Walters Leadership

and Public Policy Center at Howard University. "Stone has been

a master manipulator throughout his career. That he would attach

himself so closely with Marcus Garvey is unusual, to say the

least. Marcus Garvey, for those who know him, is a hero and a

figure of historical significance. He was clearly targeted by the

government for his beliefs and actions. Maybe Stone sees some

kinship in that regard. “
