Annual Report 2019-20 | Bermagui Surf Life Saving ClubExecutive SummaryBermagui SLSC is a not-for-profit organisation registered under the Charitable Fundraising Act1991. Our charitable purpose is to ensure beachgoers are safe at our beach and surrounding areasand to provide education around surf safety. Funds raised by our club go towards providing thosevaluable lifesaving services in support of our ultimate goal of “zero preventable deaths at ourbeaches”.First formed in 1909 as the South Bermagui Surf Bathing Club, the members of the Bermagui SurfLife Saving Club protect and support our community and surrounding areas and the thousands ofvisitors to Bermagui every year. We are one of seven clubs that form the Far South Coast Branch ofSurf Life Saving NSW, one of 129 clubs across NSW and one of 314 clubs across Australia.Surf Life Saving NSW is the state's major water safety and rescue organisation and, with over76,000 members, is one of the largest volunteer movements in Australia. Surf Life Saving is aunique not-for-profit community cause that exists through community donations, fundraising,corporate sponsorship and government grants. Our primary role is to save lives on the beach andsince Surf Life Saving was established in 1907, over 660,000 people have been rescued across thecountry by surf lifesavers.Bermagui SLSC is a small but dynamic club. Our membership currently sits at 200 having grownfrom 134 just three years ago. Increases have been seen across the board with active members,general members, Nippers and Same Wavers all seeing growth.Our goal is to focus on SMART growth, not BIG growth and our leadership team is always looking fornew and innovative approaches to engage our current members as well as attract new members.This past year has been an extraordinary time in our community and there is much to reflect on. Thefollowing pages outline some of the great progress our team has made over the past 12 months.As you will see as you read through ourAnnual Report, it takes many volunteer handsto create and maintain a strong and vibrantBermagui Surf Life Saving Club and weextend our heartfelt gratitude to all whocontribute in any way for your continuedsupport.We’re proud to have such an engaged andenthusiastic membership and hope you allenjoy looking back on the year that haspassed through this 2019-20 Annual Report.2
